You say it as if all of them protecting the church are muslims, some muslims are protecting the church while some others are trying to destroy it, even destroyed so many already.
And there was a time all of Egypt was christianity

Maybe they are protecting them so they can have them all to themselves after mass. This kind of protection usually come with ulterior motive.

LagosShia: it is really unfortunate that either out of ignorance or hate,or may be from both, some non-muslims do not want to hear anything good about muslims/islam.just days before Morsi was overthrown,a salafist mob raided a Shia Muslim neighborhood in Egypt and killed the Egyptian Shia cleric,Sheikh Hassan Shehata and a few other Shia worshippers.i was amazed how open-minded Egyptian Sunni Muslims are in the way they unanimously condemned the Sunni Salafists who attacked the Shia Egyptians.

today Egypt is witnessing the people turning against extremism, intolerance and terrorists.the majority of Egypt and its national army have deposed Morsi of the Muslim brotherhood, which is a party based on the extreme Salafist/Wahhabi ideology that even not all Sunni Muslims share.noteworthy is that alqaeda, boko haram and those groups supported by the Western countries, saudi Arabia and turkey fighting in Syria against President Assad, also share the salafist/Wahhabi ideology (as does book haram in Nigeria),which promotes bloodshed, violence, terrorism, extremism, intolerance and killing civilians, who do not share their beliefs (takfirism).i find it distasteful that some people after viewing a picture of "good muslims" protecting a church in Egypt, are still clinging on to the extremism alqaeda and the likes display (e.g. attack on churches) as the "image of Islam and muslims".yet these illitrates do not know about the number of Shia Muslim civilians who die at the hands of the takfiri Wahhabi/salafist groups in Pakistan,Iraq and Afghanistan, and how many mosques have been attacked in those three countries.even sunnis have been targeted by these groups in Iraq and Syria.

it is also unfortunate that some illitrates in this thread have gone to cherry-pick some Quranic verses to take them out of context, misinterpret them and distort them,to portray islam as a religion of hate and intolerance.please learn first what those Quranic verses say in their context and who they refer to,instead of reading them in a blank way and leaning towards generalization.

the majority of muslims (be they shia or the mainstream sunnis) are peace loving people, and islam is a religion of peace.that is why you still find muslims in Egypt standing against the brotherhood, and Syrians in their majority preferring bashar al-assad to the takfiri groups fighting against him.you should know that it is the "Christian countries" in the west and their arab puppet governments in the middle east that support the extremist groups for selfish interests that are against the interests of the regular muslim man who goes about fetching to sustain his wife and children.

Very nice of them...except that op didn't tell us that about 40 churches have been torched within the past 2 weeks and nobody did anything to 'save' them.

However, for these ones that 'risked' their lives in the face of violence to 'save' this church, kudos to you all.

Re: Muslims Protecting A Catholic Church In Egypt During Mass by proo212(m): 2:46pm On Aug 19, 2013
So the church is the St George's Church in Sohag. Excellent. The question is when did this happen? Is it before of after the black Al Qaeda flag was hoisted on top of it? Can anybody answer the question?

(AINA) -- Since ex-president Morsy's ouster on July 3, attacks on Egyptian Christians by members of the Muslim Brotherhood have taken place in most governorates across Egypt. These attacks have escalated since security forces ended the pro-Morsy protests in central Cairo on August 14th. During their 6-weeks of protests, Muslim Brotherhood leaders explicitly threatened to harm the Copts should they be forced to end their protests, which they vowed to prolong until Morsy is restored to power.

"Over the past weeks we have witnessed an increasing trend of anti-Christian rhetoric calling for 'the attack upon and eradication of Christians and churches' in Egypt," said Coptic Bishop Anba in the United Kingdom. "The result of such incitement, at least in part, has been the unprecedented attack on fifty two churches and numerous Christian homes and businesses across eight governorates in Egypt, within the space of twenty four hours."

Yesterday Dr. Naguib Gabriel, President of Egyptian Union of Human Rights Organization, said "82 churches, many of which were from the 5th century, were attacked by pro-Morsy supporters in just two days."

Coptic Pope Tawadros II issued a statement yesterday expressing his views on the violence which engulfed Egypt, accusing the Muslim Brotherhood of fomenting sectarian clashes.

The Pope said the Church is on "the side of Egyptian law, the armed forces and all the Egyptian civil institutions when it comes to confronting violent armed organizations and terrorizing forces, either within the country or from abroad." The Pope pointed out that one should look beyond the squares where the Muslim Brotherhood have been holding their protests, in order to gain a general overview of what has been happening for weeks in Egypt. "The attacks on government buildings and peaceful churches terrorize everyone, whether they be Copts or Muslims. These actions go against any religion, any moral code and any sense of humanity."

The Coptic Church also criticized the way in which the crisis is reported outside of Egypt. It expressly speaks of "false broadcast by Western media," and urges for an "objective" revision to be made of the descriptions given to the actions of those "blood-thirsty radical organizations." The Coptic Orthodox Church says that "instead of legitimizing them with global support and political coverage while they are trying to wreak havoc and destruction upon our beloved land, report all events truthfully and accurately."

Pope Tawadros reaffirmed his support for "national unity" and rejected any form of "international interference in our internal affairs."

The Pope is at the top of the Islamists' assassination list.

The views of the Coptic church are also held by Copts in general, who are angry with the US and EU powers, "who almost daily issue statements threatening to take further actions against our interim government and army, portraying the Muslim Brotherhood as victims while not even mentioning the destruction of over 80 churches, as well monasteries, orphanages, businesses and Coptic schools by the Muslim Brotherhood," says Coptic activist Wagih Yacoub who believes that this western attitude emboldens them to carry out further violence. "To add insult to injury the Muslim Brotherhood this week hoisted the black Al-Qaida flag on top of St. George's church in Sohag. Three churches were turned into mosques in Minya and Friday prayers were held inside them."

Because they spanned the entire latter half of the Middle Ages, lasting into the 1800s, the Inquisitions themselves deserve their own entry. Their typically accepted dates are from the 1100s to 1808. The Inquisition still exists today, but torture and execution are no longer allowed. The word itself simply denotes an investigation into possible heresy.

For those seven centuries or so, anyone who roused the anger or suspicion of the Roman Catholic Church was in very real danger of the arrival of Inquisitors, whose job was “to root out and purge the Christian civilized world of heresy and crimes against God.” Torture was not only defended as a means to gain a confession; the Church encouraged it.

Aside from the specific cases mentioned in other entries, it must not be forgotten that the Catholic Church routinely arrested and tortured Jews, Muslims, Waldensianism (Christian), Hussitism (Christian) and numerous other religions and religious sects. These people were given prior warning to vacate the given area (a pogrom), after which anyone found in the area was arrested and given an ultimatum: convert to Christianity or be executed. Anyone who foolishly refused was tortured until he or she did convert, and the Inquisition allowed no exemptions for anyone, men, women, children, the elderly or the disabled.

These tortures were lurid beyond belief, including branding, the rack, hanging by the toes or thumbs, toe crushing, bone breaking, simple beatings, foot roasting, and blinding by red-hot pokers. After such tortures, the condemned was almost always strangled, then burned at the stake. For seven centuries, the Catholic Church was all powerful, even terrifying monarchs, and the Inquisition held absolute sway by the most brutal methods imaginable.

Interestingly the office of the Inquisition still exists today under the name “Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith”.
