Governor Kwankwaso Rejects Jonathan's Request To Stand beside Him by dondumexx(m): 2:14am On Sep 03, 2013
There was a mild political drama at Nigeria’s Presidential Villa on Sunday night when Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of Kano State rejected the request of President Goodluck Jonathan to stand beside him as Tony Anenih, the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the People’s Democratic Party, read a communiqué at the end of their “peace” meeting.
Mr. Kwankwaso was the spokesman of a group of PDP governors who last Saturday walked out of the venue of the party’s mini-convention.
He was at Aso Rock Villa to participate in a meeting called by Mr. Jonathan to iron out differences between the president’s faction of the party and a splinter group of governors and other party members who staged the dramatic walkout.

At the end of the peace meeting, which was attended by 16 governors, Mr. Anenih was mandated to speak with reporters as Mr. Jonathan and his deputy, Namadi Sambo, were reduced to spectators. A presidential source told SaharaReporters that President Jonathan had beckoned on Kwankwaso to stand beside him, but the Kano State governor refused. “When Mr. President beckoned to Alhaji Kwankwaso to stand by his side as Chief Anenih read out the communiqué, the governor raised his finger and shook it several times. He then headed to the side of Chief Anenih,” said the source. He added that Mr. Jonathan, though clearly miffed, flashed a pained smile.

SaharaReporters learnt that Mr. Jonathan first met behind closed doors with former President Olusegun Obasanjo for close to two hours in the private residence of the president, and then met with 16 PDP governors, including four of the group that walked away from the mini-convention. The splinter group, led by former Vice President Abubakar Atiku, subsequently met at the Musa Yar’Adua Convention Center in Abuja and announced the formation of the “New PDP.” The rebellious governors include Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa, and Abdulfatai Ahmed of Kwara State.

Mr. Anenih read the communiqué flanked by President Jonathan on the right and Governor Kwankwaso on the left, with other governors behind them. The chairman of the fractious party’s board of trustees stated that “the leadership of the party and the PDP governors met today to discuss the incident that occurred during the PDP special convention on the 31st of August 2013, whereby some state delegations walked out of the convention ground to announce a faction of the party.” He added: “The meeting was smooth and encouraging and the discussions will continue on Tuesday with all the aggrieved governors in attendance.”

1. GEJ will never win the PDP primary
2. His general election chances are now irrelevant, he won't make it that far!
3. All effective leadership and governance from the FG is DEAD until 2015.
3a. People from GEJ's camp will be stealing to secure their retirement.
3b. People from the "NEW PDP" camp will be stealing to fund their faction and to pay bribes to secure their power
3c. GEJ himself will be stealing like mad to try to buy back his chances of winning the primary.

4. At the end of the day, it is up to the State Governments to carry out development from now until 2015.

God help us!

To think that you are 36 years of age lends credence to Babangida's assertion that Nigerian youths are brainless.

And some people are even liking your post. SMH!

and this your post doesn't sound cerebral!

He had the right to sit wherever he felt like sitting base on his personal reason.
The president would have saved himself from the insult by not beckoning on him to sit by his side.

What part of his post gives you so much grief? By the way, I have just added one like to his post.

I happen to believe the FGN is useless and that meaningful development shall only come if we move power and resource control to the regions!

I want to believe we are all entitled to our opinion. What he did was air his opinion which u don't have too accept. Whining like a sour widow over an intelligent analysis of d obvious makes u d fuuuuulll at what ever age u are. Cos aside being condescending, I dint see any intelligent argument u offered. @topic, this is d beginning of d end of pdp in Nigeria. It shows God is not sleeping and he is indeed hearing d prayers of d masses over a wasteful govt since 1999. A change of scene is what we need. If woman never try two husband she no go know d one wey sweet pass. Let's give anoda party a chance n see. We need to stop dis pdp is unbeatable and invincible shait.

Disrespect? Why did the Governor refused to stand by President Jonathan's side? Maybe it was because Jonathan has a very bad body odour! grin grin

When a large and powerful system is to be destroyed, its always from within.

Good example, Roman Empire.

Yes. He reeks of treachery and I think even politicians themselves are fed up of this guy who stands for nothing but a narcissistic focus on his own parochial agenda he has been prepared to stab others in the back for. Chicken coming home to roost for GEJ as some of us predicted.

I would be happy if the old system is done away with completely. Nigeria deserves a whole new political class.......the old boys and girls should leave.

If they are not careful though, they will make GEJ look like a victim. If he performs in key sectors, the people may actually insist he be president.....lol

Like they insisted he be acting president when Yaradua was hospitalzed.......Who knows, but you can see that it is actually business as usual with some people unhappy things are not going their way.

Its time for something fresh and new........All these names have been in politics all along, and nothing to really show for it.

Nigeria is bigger than GEJ or any other individual.

You have just spoken like a true onibanje. Very vocal and senseless yet all the wives (prevalent in southwest) of the foolish onibanje would tremble at his loud mouth.

Just wait until the private power companies start giving us light and all average Nigerian happy to retain GEJ. Your type may be forced to drink dangerous tea or better still eat otapims. That way we have one less buffoonery to deal with.

I think that will b his major saving grace if he gets d power problem right. And that will b a tall order....because his detractors will try to sabotage his efforts there. But I'm happy d way things r going. Wen a leader is not surrounded by yes men.....he has to turn to pple for help..........and to get dt help, he can't b complacent.

The first part of your post is ignored and the second part is a classic and qualifies for nite of a thousand laughs! grin

The FGN is full of future achievements , "we will", "we assure", "it shall not" etc etc. What our country needs after about six years is concrete and visible "we have"

I will contact my friend Opa Williams to sign you on immediately. Please can you kindly give a number he can reach you on.

Musa Kwankwoso shouldn't forget his source: he is an Igbo man whose name is originally "Nwankwo". He should have respected the President, knowing full GEJ has upgraded Enugu Airport to international standard, wants to build the Second Niger Bridge, etc.
