No time or resources expended on education is a waste. GEJ should take a cue from some governors and learn to appreciate education by putting a stop to AASU strike.

They have been giving students since oga, only that they haven't covered the whole state. Before this years runs out, I guess they would have covered every school.

Have I not said it here many times that Aregbesola is a visionary leader worth supporting? This is not even his first initiative to be lauded worldwide. OYES has been understudied with the intention of using it to boost youth employment throughout Africa!!!

Senator Chukwumerije, Chairman Senate committee on education, has already hinted us about what we are reading now. Kudos Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

Chukwumerije hails Aregbesola’s education policies
POSTED ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10TH, 2012

By Gbenga Faturoti, Correspondent Osogbo

Chairman, Senate Committee on Education, Senator Uche Chukwumerije has called on other states in Nigeria to emulate the feat recorded by Osun State in education sector saying that what is happening in the state is capable of rescuing the country’s rotten education sector.

Chukwumeriji, who lead other members of the committee on an oversight visit to Osun State, challenged other state governors to learn from the policies being put in place in Osun if indeed, they are set to put their states on the path of glory.

He explained that all state governors must drop their party affiliations and sentiments and learn from Osun because the state is on the right path to the development of the sector.

Other members of the committee included wife of the former governor of Lagos State, Oluremi Tinubu, Professor Olusola Adeyeye and Atiku Bagudu.

The committee said the visit was a mark of respect and solidarity in showing appreciation for the feat that the young administration of Aregbesola has achieved in Osun.

According to Chukwumerije, “The states and the country owe Governor Aregbesola a lot of gratitude for promptly laying a formidable foundation for education in the state. I will like to use this opportunity to advise other states irrespective of your political affiliation, you must drop your ego and learn from the people oriented projects and programmes of Governor Aregbesola.”

The senator described the collapse of education in the country as a national challenge and appealed to all to muster the courage to address the decay in the education sector.

“The Governor of Osun is God-sent to his people. Aregbesola, as a fresh governor, has shown that he is a serious-minded person. For the first time, the education policy of Ogbeni Aregbesola remains the best in the country, even ahead that of Lagos State.”

Responding, Governor Aregbesola held that for the country to progress, the interest of the people must be considered before any decision is taken; stating that parliamentary system of government is the essence of democracy.

He said, “The best form of political activity is in the parliament, our nation will not make appreciable progress if it focuses only on the executive, at least the parliament is where ideas are generated, they have total representative and support of the people.

“Parliamentary system is the essence of democracy. The assembly of the people must not be an expression but it must put into practise. For a country to have a meaningful development progress, it must not be a one-sided means of power.” The governor averred.

Speaking on education, Aregbesola said when he got into power; his intention was to close down schools for about a year because of what he met.

“What was on ground was dilapidated school buildings not fit for human habitation. The conditions of teachers were nothing to write home about plus the condition of other infrastructure.”

He urged the committee not to be afraid to tell the president that there is a problem in the educational sector, adding that the decadence in the sector must be arrested to rescue students from the problem of not having sound education.

Aregbesola held that the basis of growth for any country is sound education and that Osun is committed to provision of genuine and sound education for its citizenry hence the commitment of huge resources to make sure that its pupils will rank among the best in Nigeria.

Bruv, I have always been a supporter of Aregbesola because one does not need to be a rocket scientist to discern, even from his days as a commissioner in Lagos, that this was a man who loved delivering effective leadership. He was awarded commissioner of the year twice while employed by Lagos State !!!

Observers who wish to rise above ignorance would have realised the man is worth supporting because of the many innovative pro-people ideas he has articulated very well and put in the public domain.

If I see good in leaders, I am never deterred supporting them. No cynicism or lies will discourage me because effective leadership that will improve the lives of Nigerians is what interests me above everything else. It is not today, even gaining insults doing so, I have been pointing out the exemplary work of Aregbesola in the education sector. Now he has done something that we should all be proud and supportive of considering all the bad news emanating from our Country currently. Kudos to Aregbesola and Osun State. A small and relatively poor State led by a leader with a big heart and even bigger plans.

Aregberascal truly is a Patriot and a visionary leader has good intentions for the People of the State of Osun.

One wonders why the Vermin called Beaf was up in arms against him day and night. Failing even to spare a moment to criticize his useless Bone-Headed governor who was and is still running his state aground.

AREGBERASCAL is a local man who proffers local and simple solutions to problems.
Do not get me wrong,
The dept of his knowledge can only be rivalled by just a few people.
I have also been impressed by his spiritualism and nationalism.
Seeing him use folk songs to mobilise his people for action and pass out messages is a nice break from all the western education/culture
He is also the only person in nigeria with a clearly defined ideology.

Shouldn't the rising debt profile of the pitiable state of osun be of concern to us? I still maintain that the Opon Imo cannot be a replacement for real books and it is one of the numerous white elephant projects of Governor. Misplaced priorities.

Akanbi_edu: Good thinking, good product.

Oga Gbawe, I have to congratulate you on this occasion. Thank you for being tenacious.

My brother, thank you for your kind words. There is no insult I have not received for supporting Aregbesola tenaciously from day one and no name I have not been called. Ultimately, I kept going because "game recognise game".

I could not be distracted or dissuaded because it was clear, from his well-articulated plans, that Aregbesola is a 'man of ideas'. A genuine solutions provider in a Nation that cannot boast many of such in its political space.

I knew Aregbesola would come good because of his brilliant ideas many could not understand and were naturally inclined to put down. If Osun had the money of others, Osun would even be miles better today. One thing I know from personal experience is that resources/finance may always be scarce but the man who has good ideas, and is dogged in pursuing them, will always be a winner eventually. The bane of Nigeria is that we host too many leaders who are clueless. This is why I personally talk of "solution providers" here non-stop and also why I passionately and tenaciously support folks like Aregbesola, Amosun et al.
