Nope! Shola Ameobi is of the tribe called Oku. They are situated in the Kabba Region of Kogi state (old Kwara state).
They are not yoruba's, however, a great majority of them speak and understand yoruba. Cheers

He is also British, yes he played for the National team (British).
He is quite a good player at Newcastle United. I don't find the accent hard to decipher (different strokes for different folks I guess).

Thanks, noted! They aren't overtly yoruba you know! I had a friend years back in Norway who's mum is of that tribe. I was pretty close to the lady and she says they aren't yorubas, but have strong ties with yorubas. If they are yoruba, how come yorubas can't speak or understand the okun language?

Yoruba dialects are not all inter intelligible. Not everyone can understand when a proper Iwo person or ife person speaks for instance.
