Good day guru's in the room. Kindly help me out by answering this my question.
I'm expecting my I-20 form from Upenn latest first week of July. Meanwhile, the first available appointment is July 23rd (I just checked it).
My question is if it's possible for me to schedule my appointment prior to getting my I-20 form? And how? thanks for ur quick responses!

@Justwise, Is Nokia E71 phone not supported? Because I cannot reply messages on here. Or Is someone trying to hack me?

Yea its possible. If u'v started filling your ds-160, use the confirmation number to schedule your appointment. And don't worry this can still be updated if it happens that the confirmation number changes. You can then submit your ds-160 and pay your sevis fee as soon as your I20 arrives. The gurus in the house will say more about it.

That's even more stressful when you can lodge in an hotel @ obalende for 4k. Also one can trek from the hotel or take #50 tricycle to the Consulate.

For real, no others website like nairaland to me. It was so so boring during the time off.

No students transcript and success stories. No ghanaians to curse and mock during the football matches. cry cry

Visa Interview Transcript on 24th June 2014. Very long cos we discussed like it wasn't an interview.

ME: Hi Madam (One black American on counter 1)
VO: 4 fingers of your left hand on the white light please
ME: (Already angry inside cos she didn't reply my greeting) Can I take my hand off now?
VO: Yes please. What are you going to the US for?
ME: Masters degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering
VO: OK, I can see that on your I-20, Why MSU?
ME: I actually catalogued so many schools and considered so many criteria but the main reason i chose MSU is because I was accepted into Power and Energy Systems research group which affords me the opportunity for further research in Electricity generation, transmission and distribution. This group is headed by Dr. Bleep YYY and he will be my research advisor.
VO: Hmmmm, how come you already have an advisor? Have you registered for classes yet?
ME: I haven't. Actually, I can only register for classes once I get there and present my self to the international students office. Dr. Bleep YYY is actually a proposed advisor. I still have the right to make a change once I get there.
VO: Thats perfectly understood. Were you required to take any of the standardised tests?
ME: I took the TOEFL (Didn't bother telling her I was exempted), I would have loved to take the GRE cos I studied hard for it but I was exempted due to my previous undergraduate research background. I actually had to send them a soft copy of my previous project report. I have the hard copy here if you will like to take a look Ma.
VO: (Cuts in) Never mind. You seem passionate about this your project because you keep talking about it. I will really like to know more.
ME: Gave her a technical explanation and she nods in agreement. (At this moment I was 100% sure my visa has been approved until she attacked me with a big question).
VO: You talked about electricity generation. What total current do they actually generate here in Nigeria?
ME: (Maintained eye contact and smiled for like 3 seconds *confused* but composed). I bet you don't wanna know madam. Even in the university labs, we only work with few amperes of current. The power generated by a country is usually in tonnes of megawatts and only professional engineers and technicians are authorized to work in such environments. I will get there soon (big smile).
VO: Don't mind me, I'm just curious. By the way, did you apply to MSU only?
ME: Not at all. I actually applied to other schools. MIT didn't accept me, I got admitted by Uni of Bridgeport and Howard Univ.
VO: Okay, why MSU?
ME: I told you that before (VO Smiling like she's my new girlfriend, okay please remind me). Anyway, my top choices after admission were MSU and Howard but the ongoing research at Howard is on Nuclear electricity generation while that at MSU is on Hydro, which is water. Here in Nigeria we generate electricity from water. So, knowledge from MSU after my degree will play a great role in the electric power sector of Nigeria while that from Howard will do little or no good to me when I return home.
(At this point she already picked a white paper. I knew I have been approved)
VO: OK, good. You said your uncle is paying for your trip. Is he maternal or paternal?
ME: Maternal. Brother to my mum
VO: OK, what does he do and why is he paying?
ME: He is a CEO, owns XXXXX Nig Ltd, an experiential marketing firm presently marketing for Nigeria Breweries, Nestle foods, and the likes. He is paying because I am like a child to him as I have been living with him since my secondary school days and he was responsible for my undergrad. He promised to sponsor my masters if I graduate with a minimum of second class (Upper) which I did. So, he is fulfilling the promise.
VO: (Keeps nodding her head and typing on her computer). Please remember to travel with your I-20 and don't leave for the US until at least 30 days to your program resumption.
ME: *Happy inside but pretending not to care*.. Okay, thanks for the advice
VO: By the way, what do you intend to do with your degree after graduation?
ME: Well, I might proceed to PHD if given full assistantship. Otherwise, I will have to return home immediately to work with PHCN or any other sector that requires the services of an electrical engineer.
VO: (Hands me the white paper) Pick your passport with visa on that DHL address on Friday.
ME: Bounce out as if I expected it to end that way... No single document was asked, no test scores asked. Its all about confidence and studying previous transcripts. All thanks to everyone on this forum. Best of luck to the rest of you. obamaland here I come.

I won't say anything about the unexpected hiatus and loss of data, I'm just glad NL is back. Although I'm still trying to get used to my signature, posts and every other thing on my account disappearing. It is well.

Congratulations to those who got their visas. Welcome to the league!
