Governments the world over are utilizing social media as an engagement tool between the government and the governed. In fact, there is a school of thought that believes that Barach Obama won the last presidential election in the USA because of his effective use of social media.

As part of our ongoing series on the use of ICT in different sectors of the Nigeria society, we have done a review of the use of social media as an engagement tool by Nigeria state governors. We set out with two hypotheses and, our findings completely corroborate them. The hypotheses are (1) governors in the southern part of the country will use social media more than their northern counterpart and (2) PDP governors will use social media less than their counterparts from other parties.

FINDINGS SUMMARIZED

1. The top five governors are all of APC

2. The top five governors are all in the south

3. Eight of the top ten governors are in the south

4. Nine of the bottom ten governors are in the north
