so if someone needs to tile a room measuring 4.8 x 5 metre, how will you arrive at how much tile will be required.

You multiply 4.8 by 5metre (4.8x5) to get 24 square meters, you then add 10% for breakage/waste which is 2.40 square meters.
Total will be 24+2.40=26.40 sqm. I will simply get 27square meters of tiles. Helps?

So if you buying the tiles by boxes you just add the boxes that makes up the 27 square meters..
Most of the time Tiles are sold in boxes and in square feet in USA but they also tell you how many square feet a box will cover.
