Crime / 7-year-old Boy From Ogun Sold For N1m, Recovered In Anambra After 2 Years by 14Ebiscoo: 8:21am On Aug 19, 2019
Joshua Joseph, a 7-year-old boy declared missing by his parents in Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun State in 2017, has been found with one Blessing Ozor who reportedly paid N1.05m for his ‘adoption’.

The adopted mother of the boy renamed Chisom, said she paid N1.05m to a level-13 civil servant in the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs identified as Ifeoma Joy. Speaking at the state police headquarters where the boy was handed over to his parents, Ogun State Commissioner of Police Bashir Makama said the boy was found after officers from the command carried out a painstaking investigation.

The staff of Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs accused of collecting over N1m from the boy's adopted mother and forging adoption documents from the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs, was linked to a three-member syndicate which specialised in stealing and selling children. Other members of the gang include Rita and Angela and it was learnt they are serving time in prisons at Edo and Ondo states.

“Joy is working at the Ministry of Women Affairs in Anambra State. She used the opportunity to arrange buyers for stolen children.

“In the cause of looking for her, she got transferred to four local government councils within one month in order to evade arrest.

“Our findings showed that eight children had been stolen by this syndicate from Ogun State and four had been recovered.

“One of the stolen children was found when the people, who adopted him, saw the boy’s picture on the pages of newspapers and returned him" Ogun state police PRO Abimbola Oyeyemi said.

However Joy on her own part insisted that she did nothing wrong but only helped out a sister in fellowship.

She said, “I never did such a thing. I know the woman, who brought this boy, as a worker at the Peace Sisters’ Home.

“So, when my sister in fellowship (Ozor) came up with the idea of adopting a child, I called the other woman to help us get a boy and I gave Rita my sister’s particulars. When she finished with the particulars, she now came with this boy. I never knew the boy was stolen.”

Recounting how she made the payment to alleged member of child-trafficking gang, Ozor said she paid N150,000 for processing of the adoption papers and additional N900,000 when the process was completed.

“I am just a victim of circumstances by my foolishness. I went to a sister in our fellowship, who had adopted a child before, because I have two daughters already but I had a feeling for a son; my last daughter is 24 years old.

“I went through Rita because she and her husband had adopted a child before and they led me to this woman, Joy. I believed that everything was okay because she made me believe that she runs the Peace Sisters Home" she said.

Politics / Sowore's Lawyer, Femi Falana Files 19-ground Application Against 45-day Detentio by 14Ebiscoo: 6:51am On Aug 10, 2019
Omoyele Sowore has applied to the Federal High Court in Abuja to set aside its order permitting the Department of State Services to detain him for 45 days.

Sowore, through his lawyer, Femi Falana, contended, among others in the 19-ground application on Friday, August 9th that the order issued by the court breached his constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights.

He said the court order is “legalising the illegality” of his detention for about four days prior to the issuance of the court order. Filed along with his application on Friday was an affidavit of urgency seeking an urgent hearing of the suit on the grounds that it “is one of fundamental importance that affects salient fundamental rights of the applicant herein.”

The Federal High Court had ruled on an ex parte application by the DSS to detain Sowore for 90 days to investigate him for treason-related allegations. However, Justice Taiwo Taiwo on Thursday granted the agency permission to hold the activist for 45 days.

Politics / Cross River REC Sacked By INEC For Using Premises To Declare For APC by 14Ebiscoo: 6:18pm On Aug 09, 2019
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Cross River state Dr. Frankland Briyai, has been sacked by the Independent and Electoral Commission (INEC) for using its premises to declare his political ambition on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dr. Briyai had declared his interest in contesting for Bayelsa State Governorship seat scheduled for November on Thursday August 8. He made the announcement of joining the APC at INEC's Cross River State office in Calabar.

However reacting to the development, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the commission's Information and Voter Education Committee Festus Okoye, announced Dr. Briyai's sack in a statement on Friday August 9.

“While it is the right of any Commissioner or official of the Commission to resign his or her appointment and join any political party of his/her choice and to aspire for any office or position, INEC frowns at the use of its premises or facilities for any political purpose as this is unlawful and contrary to the Code of Conduct subscribed to by all its officials.

“Following his declaration, the Commission has relieved Dr. Briyai of his duties as a Resident Electoral Commissioner and withdrawn all powers delegated to him. Consequently, the Administrative Secretary of Cross River State has been directed to oversee the office and take over the functions and duties of the REC until further notice”, the commission said.

Sports / BIG NEWS! Arsenal Agree £72m Deal For Ivory Coast Star Nicolas Pepe by 14Ebiscoo: 9:44pm On Jul 27, 2019
MCEBISCOO.COM

Arsenal have reached an agreement with French club Lille to sign Ivory Coast winger Nicolas Pepe in a deal worth 80m euros (£72m).

The Gunners will pay for the 24-year-old via a series of instalments that suit their restricted budget for this summer.

An agreement between Arsenal and Pepe’s representatives still needs to be finalised.

But the transfer is expected to be completed in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Italian side Napoli also met Lille’s asking price, but their proposal was rejected by the player’s camp.

Pepe tends to operate on the right wing and cut in on to his left foot, but can also be used as a striker in a 4-4-2 formation.

He scored 23 goals for Lille last season and satisfies Arsenal’s need for a wide player with pace and high technical ability.

Arsenal offered £40m for Crystal Palace’s Ivory Coast winger Wilfried Zaha earlier this month, but their Premier League rivals value the player at about £80m.

Politics / Uzodinma Mocks Okorocha: 'You Can No Longer Walk Freely' by 14Ebiscoo: 5:03am On Apr 09, 2019
The Imo State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the March 9, 2019 election, Senator Hope Uzodinma has described Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha as a wolf in a sheep’s clothing who in his failed attempt to destroy APC in the state and South East has been running from pillar to post to redeem his image.

He said that nemesis has already caught up with the governor as he can no longer walk freely on the streets of Owerri, the Imo State capital and mocked him over the withholding of his certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for procuring victory in his senatorial election under duress.

A statement by the publicity secretary of the APC in Imo State, Chief Enyinna Onuegbu yesterday, in reaction to claims by the governor and his son in-law, Uche Nwosu that the denial of the APC top hierarchy to give the APC governorship ticket in the state to the son in-law caused the defeat of APC in the election, noted that events preceding and during the governorship election clearly showed that Okorocha was against the interest of APC.

“The clearest evidence of this sabotage was on live television when the result of Ideato local government area (Okorocha’s home LGA) was declared as more than 70,000 in favour of AA which created a stalemate and was later reduced to 40,000 in a most funny manner. The question to ask is: what was the basis for reducing the result at a LGA Collation Centre?

“Okorocha had brazenly continued to work against the APC and this manifested on the governorship election day in the state when having realised that I was cruising to victory, the governor quickly moblised thugs dressed in military and police uniforms to snatch ballot boxes to manipulate scores in favour of the PDP candidate when it became apparent that his anointed son-in-law will not make it. It was at this point that they falsified the scores for PDP and AA.

“Prior to that, the governor used the same thugs dressed in military and police uniforms to forcibly chase away APC polling agents at the various polling units and fielded those of the AA.”

According to him, Okorocha was simply reaping the result of his anti-party activities and that “instead of accepting his fate, he is busy looking for whom to latch on as a drowning man”.

On the claim that he is not popular, Uzodinma said the only reason why APC is back on track in Imo is because of his emergence as the governorship candidate of the party in the state.

He said: “Okorocha has run for many elections, including the governorship of Imo State, before 2011, and even the presidency, and lost all. But, in 2011, in particular, Imo people voted more against former Governor Ikedi Ohakim than for Okorocha, so, he merely benefitted from the anger of the people against Ohakim.

“Even at that, the election went into a bye-election, where Ohakim was finally manipulated out of the race and Okorocha became governor. Also, in 2015, Okorocha, as incumbent governor, could not win outright on first ballot.

“The election was concluded on a second ballot, where some aggrieved PDP members helped, again, to manipulate him into the governorship.” Uzodima further said he defeated Okorocha’s political party in Imo West Senatorial District in 2011 and 2015, even as governorship candidate and incumbent governor, respectively.

Health / FG Mulls Healthcare Fund For Lassa Fever Patients by 14Ebiscoo: 9:17am On Apr 08, 2019
The federal government is introducing a funding mechanism to carter for patients with confirmed cases of Lassa Fever in the country, the Director General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, has said. Ihekweazu who made the disclosure in Abuja, explained that the aim of the healthcare fund was to ensure that money does not become a hindrance for patients in accessing Lassa fever treatment.

“We are making plans through the Basic Primary Healthcare Provision Fund, the new funding instituted by the federal government, to cover the cost of treatment of confirmed cases of Lassa fever patients.

“A process is ongoing on how to manage this and it is at the heart of discussion at all levels of government at the moment.

“The aim is to make sure that ability to pay is not a barrier to accessing the treatment for public health diseases such as lassa fever,” Ihekweazu said.

According to him, efforts are being made by the government through the NCDC to reduce the burden of Lassa fever treatment on patients, pending the take- off of the healthcare fund.

The NCDC boss explained that, “From the federal government level we have made sure that the core treatment costs are covered; of course when you are admitted in a hospital there are other costs accrued to you. “What we have been doing with the Teaching Hospitals is to make sure that such cost is reduced to the barest minimum.

“In some cases we are able to treat patients absolutely free, in other cases they still have to pay. “What we have ensured in all the treatment centres in Nigeria is that no patient has ever been turned away because of his or her inability to pay and no patient has been detained in any hospital for not being able to pay.

“So, eventually, either upfront or at the end of that treatment period, we ensure that everyone gets the treatment,” he said.

Ihekweazu urged Nigerians to adopt all possible preventive measures such as safe food storage principle and keeping a clean environment to ward off rodents.

He said: “You don’t need to be wealthy to keep your environment clean, so, the key thing is to get the messages out in all Nigerian languages that this is what you need to do to prevent the disease.

“Prevention is so much cheaper than cure because the illness can kill. This is a big financial burden for government.

“Even though the cost of Lassa treatment is very high, we have carried the biggest part of that cost on behalf of the Nigerian government, and we have ensured that the core treatment cost of every Lassa fever patient is covered.

“Ribalvrin is a very expensive drug but we ensure that every confirmed case gets the drug free, but no matter how accessible you can make the treatment of Lassa, it is always cheaper to prevent it.

“So, we are really encouraging people not to even get into the circle of treatment because even with all the resource in the world, we still cannot guarantee a great outcome’’.

Politics / Court Orders Saraki, Melaye, Bruce To Honour Police Invitation by 14Ebiscoo: 4:05pm On Apr 04, 2019
The Federal High Court, Abuja has ordered Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Sen. Dino Melaye and Sen. Ben Murray-Bruce to honour the Police invitation of Oct. 5, 2018 in connection with the protest staged by members of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).

Justice Okon Abang gave the order on Thursday while delivering judgment in a fundamental human rights suit filed by the trio alleging intimidation, harassment and threat by the police.

“It is my view that the police invitation to the applicants is still valid and subsisting; The applicants shall respond or report to the police invitation without fail.

“It is how the police treats them upon their having honoured the application that would determine whether their fundamental rights was violated not before they honour the invitation,” the judge said.

The judge held that even though the applicants were not on trial, where there were allegations against them, they had an obligation to report to the police upon been invited.

He insisted that the court could not restrain the police from discharging its duties as long as it was done within the confines of the law.

According to the judge, the suit of the applicants lacks merit and is accordingly dismissed with a cost of N50,000 awarded in favour of the police.

The trio had filed an application asking the court to nullify the Oct. 6 and 8, 2018 letters of invitation to them by the Police.

They claimed that the Police invitation was an attempt to harass, intimidate and unlawfully detain them.

The senators also asked the court to declare that the act of dispersing their procession with tear gas was a violation of their fundamental rights, and asked the court to award N500 million to them as damages.

The three senators were part of the PDP leaders who led a protest on Oct. 5, 2018 asking the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) to conduct free and fair elections.

The protest was sequel to the Osun governorship election which was declared to have been won by the All Progressives Congress.

They carried placards which read; “Police is an arm of APC, we demand free and fair elections amongst other inscriptions.

They were on their way to the Force Headquarters when policemen dispersed them with teargas.

The police stated that the applicants and about 100 hoodlums riotously blocked Shehu Shagari way preventing motorist and other road users going about their lawful duties for several hours.

They further claimed that they forcefully attempted to enter into the Police Headquarters and became totally hostile.

They also said that they rushed violently in an attempt to force their way into the force headquarters to cause damage to police equipment and government property.

The police said they were warned to disperse but they refused and the police had to use the minimal force allowed by law to disperse them.

Politics / Rivers Election: My Mandate Was Stolen — Awara Cries Out by 14Ebiscoo: 9:39am On Apr 04, 2019
The Rivers State governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Biokpomabo Awara, yesterday claimed to know why top officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are foisting Governor Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the people.

Speaking on a local radio, Awara alleged that the INEC leadership returned Wike as the governor to prevent him from being probed for his actions when he held the forte in the Education Ministry as minister.

He named INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu; the National Commissioner in charge of Rivers, Bayelsa and Edo states, May Agbamuche-Mbu; Rivers REC Obo Effanga and Administrative Secretary in the state Elder Etim Umoh as those offering Wike cover.

According to him, his agent Dr. Lawrence Chuku was denied access into the collation centre AAC’s governorship candidate also accused INEC’s officials at the collation centre while Nenye Kocha, whom he accused of impersonating the AAC was allowed into the collation venue on Aba Road, Port Harcourt.

Awara said: “I have the unit by unit results of the March 9, 2019 elections in Rivers State. When they observed that I was leading and they saw the danger coming, they quickly moved on March 10 to save Wike, by suspending the collation of the results, which they resumed on April 1. As at the time the collation was suspended, I had 281,000 votes, as against Wike’s 79,000 votes. So, they (INEC officials) quickly came to his rescue.
READ ALSO: Ekiti Election: Wike Finally Reacts To Fayemi’s Victory

“We (AAC leaders) have written a petition on the electoral fraud in Rivers State to the INEC chairman, stating the actual results, but Prof. Yakubu will not take action.

“Kocha is not the collation agent of AAC in INEC office, Port Harcourt. Dr. Chuku is the duly-nominated collation agent of AAC, but he was prevented by security personnel at the gate of INEC’s office in Port Harcourt from moving to the collation centre.

“I want Rivers people to be calm. We are going to reclaim the stolen mandate. We should not be troubled and we should never opt for violence.

“I want Rivers people, especially my teeming supporters, who are being pained by what they are seeing, to keep hope alive. Victory is certain. We are going to bring back the stolen mandate.”

All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in the state, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, stated that the results would not stand the test of time.

He urged Wike and his supporters not to rejoice yet.

Politics / Scape-goating Of A Common Man Over N355million Fraud By First Bank [part 1] by 14Ebiscoo: 8:20pm On Apr 03, 2019
…The Untold Story of the Criminals in FIRST BANK

Growing up, I know that evil existed but I had thought that its existence was limited to the movies and the make-believe world. When this evil presently directed at me started I had thought that those involved were aliens exhibiting their wickedness on a human but I woke up in the cell to discover that these people were actually my bosses in office or do I say my co-workers? Yes! These people are not aliens! These are people that I have never had any quarrel with before. These are people I have taken as brothers and sisters and will do anything to fight for if they were to be accused of any crime. They are people who have in my presence insulted and bad mouthed the ruling class as been evil, little did I know that these people are worst than those they accuse. Truly, this world is full of evil! Yes! This world is deep.

These people have truly dealt with me. I have been to hell and back. However, my tormentors seems determined that they will never let me be until am dead. I must confess that I am dying gradually. Yes! I have always tried to disbelief that what I see daily is death but for how long can one deny the truth especially when it’s staring you in the face? I have always thought that these people can only torment me but it’s obvious that these people are determined to ‘’eliminate’’ me by all means. I now fear for my life and this is why I have decided to tell my story. In case I DO NOT MAKE IT. God forbid! I want the Public to be aware of my battles these years as I fear that these people may succeed in ‘’eliminating’’ me. At least let the public be in the know. I also use this opportunity to ask that you do not cry for me in case they succeed. Who has cry helped? Same tears that I have been sharing for the past 6 years that it now seems non is left? Well! I have from today decided to MAN UP and accept my fate that the evil befalling me is my fault. Yes! I now only have 2 entities to blame: Myself and my ancestors.

My ancestors because they allowed me to be born without a “name” and myself because I allowed my person to be born a common man or what else do you want me to say? The only thing I want from you is to ensure that justice is done in this case whether I live or not.

Yes! It’s now obvious to me that I actually underestimated the forces that I was actually in battles with. These people are well connected and are masters at pulling behind the scenes stings. They seem so saintly in public but these people are something else in private. And when their evil is 100 percent perfectly supported by the ALMIGHTY FIRST BANK NIGERIA PLC? Then you can be rest assured that hardly can any common man like me withstand their ‘’elimination targets’’. Off course, a common man like me stands no chance. However, as far as I live, I will continue to fight for my rights and life as I have not offended any man.

My name is Humphrey Darlington Omeli ‘’Male’’ ‘’a Christian’’ ‘’Single’’. Am from Ezeagu local govt area of Enugu State. I live at No.2, Anjorin Close, Market, Okokomaiko, Ojo, Lagos or do I say that I used to live in the above address?

Most times I think that what is happening to me is a dream but alas it’s not. I have come to the conclusion that no dream can be this long. No! This must still be dream or is my own case different? Or is it not same work that others go and return home in peace that I have not returned home since September 25th, 2013 that I left my house? I still recall everything that has happened (and continues to happen) just like it happened yesterday.

Just like everyone, I left my house to work on the above referenced date. I worked as a Dispatch Rider at Institutional Banking Group (IBG) department of FIRST BANK, Iganmu branch, as a contract staff from SANDY MGT. CONSULTANTS LTD. A Job I had done since 1st December, 2010. That as a Dispatch Rider, my routine duties include delivering documents specified by my superiors to various officers within the branch, Head Office or to clients within Lagos State as stated in my deployment letter. Such specified documents are expressly handed to me for dispatch by my superiors. More often than not, the documents are dropped for my attention at IBG’s department‘s printer, or on any vacant space table in the department and then pointed out to me by the originator of such document(s).

At the material time to this incident; Mrs. MOJISOLA MAJASAN was the Business Manager for IBG of First Bank – Iganmu Branch. While Mr ABIMBOLA JAIYESIMI was the Relationship Manager in-charge of the account of a customer known as ‘OLAM NIGERIA LTD’ directly opposite the branch.

At about 8.ooam on 25/09/2013, I resumed work as usual and was in the driver’s room away from our department taking my breakfast when ABIMBOLA summoned me to dispatch some documents. I requested him to sign a transport claim of #500 naira for the trip and equally allow me finish my meal which he obliged. I equally drew his attention to another bunch of documents dropped by one Mrs. KELECHI OGBUEYI (another Relationship Manager at IBG on a vacant table the previous day 5.00pm 24/09/2013) which must be dispatched that same morning to our various customers but ABIMBOLA instructed me to first dispatch his own documents as top most priority that morning, and later notified me that he would leave the documents on the top of his printer for me to collect after meal. As I headed to the driver’s room to finish my meal, a man known as Mr. MIKE – A Staff of OLAM NIGERIA LTD came in and went to discuss with Mr. ABIMBOLA.

As expected, I hurried through my meal and returned to collect those documents for dispatch but Mr. ABIMBOLA and Mr. MIKE had both gone. Among the documents which ABIMBOLA kept for me at his printer are: – RISK ASSESSMENT DOCUMENTS, BID DOCUMENTS, AND FOUR (4) FUND TRANSFER INSTRUCTION FORMS which originated from the account of OLAM NIGERIA LTD.

The four (4) fund transfer forms were duly endorsed with IBG department’s stamp, signed by Abimbola and attentioned to the Operation Manager to treat. The (4) transfer forms were for the transfer of funds totalling N355 million naira from Olam Nigeria Ltd’s account to four different corporate accounts with Olam’s original letter heading which originated from four different departments with its separate stamps and signatures properly executed on each of the transfer instructions.

Off course, I made photo copies of all the documents, including the transfer forms with the assumptions that Mr. MIKE must have brought them, and I submitted same to the Operations Secretary. I ensured she acknowledged receipt of it as customarily done, before setting out to dispatch other documents at the Head office Marina, Flourmills Apapa, Golden Sugar Tincan First gate, 7ups Bottling Company IJora, and finally NBC Iddo Plant (Nigerian Bottling Company). I was still delivering documents at NBC – IDDO when (Mr. ABIMBOLA JAIYESIMI and Mrs. KELECHI OGBUEYI) called my phone in quick succession, summoning me back to the branch saying they have more urgent documents for me.

I quickly abandoned everything and rushed back to the office as instructed. I got to the branch around 2:50pm, where I met only Mrs. KELECHI in our department and thereafter handed the acknowledgement copies of all the documents that I delivered for the day including the four (4) Transfer Instructions and some undelivered documents belonging to BAGCO-MOR -PACK at Eric Moore Road, Surulere, Lagos of which she had to call on the department driver; Mr. Samson to go deliver the remaining ones. Thereafter, she thanked me for properly dispatching her documents and afterwards started asking how I came across the transfer forms, I then informed her that it belonged to Mr. Abimbola and she collected the copies with others. We were still talking when Mrs. Mojisola called and instructed me to report to IBG Head Office at No.35 Marina Lagos and I did though after collecting N500 for transport claim from Mrs. Kelechi.

I got to IBG department at First Bank Head Office Marina around 3:30pm but had to wait till 6.00pm as the Secretary; Mrs. FELICIA informed me that they were in a meeting. Not long after that, Mr. Abimbola emerged from IBG Board Room and to my utmost surprise took me aside and asked about the transfer Forms. After my explanation on how I submitted them that morning, he then told me that: I SHOULD JUST ADMIT SUBMITTING THE (4) FUND TRANSFER FORMS IN ERROR IF I WERE TO BE QUESTIONED ABOUT IT BY ANY ONE. When I requested to know what was amiss with the transfer Forms, he requested me not to ask any questions but “Just Admit submitting the forms in error and all will be well”.

I therefore sensed something was fishy in the manner Abimbola was urging me to make a blanket admission, so I insisted that I would explain the whole facts about the transfer forms to anyone who asks me about the issue. But alas Abimbola became visibly angry due to my stance.

While we were still discussing, Mrs. Mojisola emerged from one of the offices and came to us. After talking with Mr. Abimbola in low tone, she asked me to go and wait at the SECURITY DEPARTMENT. Shortly afterwards, she came in and also attempted persuading me to admit submitting the transfer forms in error if questioned by anyone about them.

On that note, I had to request both of them at the presence of the Head of Security to Kindly explain to me what was actually going on with those forms, but Mrs. Mojisola instead of answering me got enraged as she felt I was delaying their time but just then, the Head of SECURITY DEPARTMENT had to intervene by trying to calm her down. At this juncture, I was ordered to sit farther from them in same room while the duo spoke in low conspiratorial tones as I kept wondering what the fuse was all about.

Surprisingly, i was never questioned by any other senior staff nor our group-head and his secretary at the Head Office till the close of business that day.

At about 7:30pm, Abimbola and Mojisola departed, leaving me with the security men who then asked me to make a statement on the issue. It was just then at the Security Department that i learnt that a fraud of about N355million was perpetrated with the 4 transfer forms.

Later that same night, the BAR-HEADED-MAN who is the head of Security men handed me over to another security man called Mr. ABIDEMI, who finally smuggled me downstairs and thereafter to THE LION BUILDING POLICE STATION where I slept that night.

Politics / Atiku Better Than Buhari By Far — Obasanjo by 14Ebiscoo: 7:58am On Apr 02, 2019
A former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday insisted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2019 general election, Atiku Abubakar, was better than President Muhammadu Buhari “by far.”

He also asked the PDP to purge itself of “bad eggs and hypocrites”, who according to him, lack the commitment and goodwill to return the opposition party to its lost glory.

Obasanjo spoke when South-West PDP leaders led by the party’s National Vice Chairman (South West), Dr Eddy Olafeso visited him at his Pent-House residence inside Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Among those at the meeting are; Senate Minority Leader, Biodun Olujimi, Senators-elect, Oyo South, Kola Balogun, Ondo Central, Ayo Akinyelure, Rep-elect (Ibarapa North and Central), Hon Ajibola Muraina, former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Minister for State for Defence, Erelu Olusola Obada and PDP gubernatorial candidate in Ekiti State 2018 election, Prof Olusola Eleka.

Also at the meeting are former Deputy Governor of Lagos, Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, former Deputy National Chairman, Alhaji Shuaibu Oyedoku, PDP Governorship candidate in 2017 Ondo State Governorship election, Eyitayo Jegede SAN among others.

The Ota-farmer, who maintained that he critically compared Buhari and Atiku’s competence before settling for the latter in the last election, bemoaned what he called failure of leadership, saying Nigeria cannot move forward “if we continue the way we are.”

According to him, Nigeria demands a vibrant voice and opposition in PDP with a view to building a virile democracy.

The former President who pointed out that many leaders of the party are after “their pockets and stomach”, wondered why some top echelon have left the party while others had lost hope shortly after the results of 2019 Presidential election was announced.

For PDP to bounce back, Obasanjo said the party must purge itself of hypocrites and bad eggs, and shop for those he called “critical mass of committed people.”

“I said if you compare the two of them (referring to Atiku and Buhari); with what I know and all I have written about the incumbent (President) which they have decided to cover up, Atiku is better than the incumbent by far. That’s the point I am making. And nobody is perfect.

“I am not a perfect person. I have my shortcomings. If I deny my shortcomings, it means I am not being truthful to myself. But, my shortcomings has nothing to do with my love for Nigeria. It has nothing to do with being greedy or selfishness,” Obasanjo said.

Earlier in his address, Olafeso explained that the visit was to celebrate Obasanjo on his 82nd birthday which he marked recently and equally thank him for his support for the PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 elections.

Politics / I Can Cause Trouble For Nigeria If Provoked - IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu Blows Hot by 14Ebiscoo: 9:41am On Apr 01, 2019
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has said he can cause trouble if he is provoked.

Nnamdi Kanu

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has asked the Federal Government not to provoke him, adding that he has the capacity to make the country ungovernable.

According to Punch Metro, he described an alleged plan by the Federal Government to arrest him with the International Police as an effort in futility.

He said he was a British citizen and so could not be subjected to any Nigerian law.

Kanu’s reaction followed recent revocation of his bail by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

While dismissing the bail revocation as meaningless and senseless, Kanu said, “I am a Biafran that holds a British citizenship. Nigerian law courts and their judges are of no consequence to me.”

He dared the Federal Government to come for him if it could, stressing that the bail revocation was a ploy by the Federal Government to make the International Police stop him from travelling freely across the world to make a case for the independence of Biafra.

His statement obtained by our correspondent in Awka, Anambra State, read in part, “I am not a Nigerian citizen; therefore, your bail revocation is completely meaningless to me. My devotion to the absolute and puritanical pursuit of the total restoration of the sovereignty of the Republic of Biafra is unwavering.

“My lawyers are waiting for an Interpol red notice against my name and all hell will break loose. If the intention of Binta Nyako is to curtail my travels, thereby limiting IPOB diplomatic offensive, then let me assure Biafrans that our enemies have failed.

“Should they request Interpol intervention in this matter, I will give my lawyers here in the UK the instructions we need to launch a no-holds-barred legal assault against Nigeria.

“So, I am waiting for them. Europe and Interpol are not a bunch of wild beasts like Nigerian law courts and her security services. In Europe there is rule of law which is also binding on Interpol.

“The treasonable felony charge they levelled against me is not a crime that could be committed by merely carrying Biafran flag about and preaching secession, but one that could only be committed using guns, bombs and other weapons, which my group has never been associated with.

“I warn the Federal Government not to dare me because I’m capable of causing trouble for Nigeria.”

Crime / 3 Boko Haram Fighters Surrender In Borno, Five Killed by 14Ebiscoo: 7:56am On Mar 31, 2019
The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) says it has killed five suspected Boko Haram insurgents in collaboration with soldiers deployed in Borno State.

MNJTF Chief of Military Public Information, Colonel Timothy Antigha, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in N’Djamena, Chad.

He explained that the soldiers also arrested three suspects while three other suspects surrendered to troops in Cameroon.

“Troops of the MNJTF and national forces operating in Doro Naira and Ngolom environs made contact with Boko Haram terrorists and at the end of the engagement, five terrorists were killed, three captured, while others fled,” Colonel Antigha revealed.

He added, “Two out of the three captured terrorists were eventually killed when the vehicle conveying them went over a roadside bomb planted by Boko Haram themselves. Tired of waiting for the unrealised Boko Haram Caliphate, three Boko Haram terrorists have surrendered to troops of MNJTF Sector 1 in Balgaram, Cameroon.”

The MNJTF spokesman said the task force was determined to deal with the violence orchestrated by Boko Haram insurgents in the Lake Chad area, adding that they have continued to inflict human and equipment casualties on them over the last few days, in conjunction with national forces.

He noted that a series of offensive engagements were conducted across the Areas of Responsibilities in Chad, Nigeria, and Niger Republic while some achievements have been recorded

Highlighting some of the feats made, he said, “MNJTF troops operating around Damasak, Garunda and Gazabure localities destroyed a vehicle smuggling petrol and other logistics for Boko Haram.”

“Acting on intercepted Boko Haram communication, a coalition of MNJTF Air Forces conducted air interdictions in Madayi, Meri and Tchoukou-Bol and destroyed Boko Haram logistic equipment concealed in thickly forested areas,” he added.

Colonel Antigha also disclosed that troops deployed in Mallam Fatori – Bosso axis discovered and neutralised three roadside bombs planted by the insurgents.

Items recovered included a gun truck and assorted ammunition said to have been abandoned by fleeing Boko Haram fighters.

Religion / Woman Stops Her Kids From School, Hospital, Say They Are Satanic by 14Ebiscoo: 7:19am On Jan 16, 2019
A woman accused of neglecting her three children and denying them right to education and health saying it is satanic has been charged at Milimani Law Courts.

Lydia Manyasi Saya appeared before magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot and denied two counts of infringing children rights to health and education.

The court heard that on diverse dates, between April 2018 and January 13, 2019, at Kibera Katwekera in Kibra Sub County within Nairobi, Manyasi wilfully and negligently denied her children aged 10 years and another aged 8 years a right to education.

She is said to have stopped them from attending school advising them that education is satanic according to their religious doctrine.

Manyasi, a mother of three, denied violating rights to education for two of her children and rights to healthcare for her son.

The woman was further accused that on January 13, 2019, she denied a child aged 1 year 8 months right to health and medical care by not taking him to hospital.

Cheruiyot directed that the matter be handled by a probation officer for further inquiry.

The officer is to determine the cause of the alleged offense before the court can decide on whether to release her on bail or bond.

She has been detained in police cells until January 29 when the probation officer is expected to present his report.

It is said that her husband claims that she changed her way of life about a year ago about upon joining a certain church.

When police arrested her on Monday, January 14, Manyasi told the human rights activists she opted to teach her children religious education and later enrol them into tailoring courses.

Manyasi further stunned the authority when she claimed ‘God’ had told the young girls through vision the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) is a number that is associated with demons.

"I cannot force my children to go school. I follow my faith, it is upon them whether or not they want to proceed with their education. That NEMIS which the government introduced, God had told them it is a number that is satanic,” she said.

The NEMIS is government web based data management solution which collects data and stores students' particulars.

The minors are now in safe custody of their father who said his wife changed her way of life about a year ago and would often quote bible verses which forbids conventional life. (Standard media)

Politics / CJN Onnoghen: What Buhari Ought To Do – SERAP by 14Ebiscoo: 5:50pm On Jan 14, 2019
Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to instruct the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, SAN, to immediately withdraw the charges against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen and to send any allegations of breach of asset declaration provisions of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended) to the National Judicial Council (NJC) for investigation.

The organization said: “Mr Malami should then request Justice Onnoghen as the Chairman of the NJC to recuse himself so that the next most senior justice at the Supreme Court can preside over the process and set up a panel to investigate the allegations against Justice Onnoghen to ensure fairness and justice in the matter.”

In a statement on Monday by SERAP senior legal adviser, Bamisope Adeyanju, the organisation said: “We believe that enforcing asset declaration provisions would help to prevent corruption and abuse of office and ensure transparency in public officers including judges. But the government should follow due process of law, and allow the NJC to consider the allegations against Justice Onnoghen first before pushing for prosecution, should there be any relevant admissible evidence. This would help to accord Justice Onoghen his entire rights through laid down process.”

The statement reads in part: “The moral guilt or the legal guilt of Justice Onnoghen should be left for the judicial process to decide, as he is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. For now, the fundamental question is whether he is afforded the due process of law, as he is constitutionally and legally entitled to. This is our interest in this case, and this should be the interest of every lover of justice.”

“It is the principle of due process of law which is at stake in this case, the soul and spirit of which will be endangered if Justice Onnoghen’s case continues to be heard before the Code of Conduct Tribunal. A denial of justice to one citizen is a denial of such to all. Due process here requires that Justice Onnoghe be given an opportunity to have allegations against him heard by the NJC.”

“The bringing of this case against Justice Onnoghen before the Code of Conduct Tribunal would appear to have fallen below the minimum procedural standards of legal justice, which in turn would affect the quality of justice he receives. Due process rights should not be curtailed in the interest of expediting enforcement of asset declaration provisions. The authorities have the responsibility to ensure fair treatment of judges or others who face these kinds of charges that may ultimately lead to deprivation of liberty.”

“Preventing the NJC to first hear the allegations against Justice Onnoghen would deny him his constitutionally and internationally recognized right to a fair hearing and lead to the matter being unnecessary politicised.”

“The authorities may have a strong case against him but the possibility of success is diminished if the proper procedure is not followed. The requirements of justice and success of the fight against corruption justify the fundamental need to ensure and apply due process rights in this case.”

Politics / Fayose Responds To Buhari-drove APC Govt Plan To Charge CJN Onnoghen by 14Ebiscoo: 12:11am On Jan 14, 2019
Immediate Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has declared that President Muhammado Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are like the Biblical Saul that has been deserted by God.

He described the onslaught on the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen as “one last show of desperation by a rejected President.”

He said “Those the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad. This sinking government taking on the CJN is desperation taken too far. From Amina Zakari to the illegal plot to extend the Inspector General of Police (IGP) tenure and now assault on the CJN, it is obvious that God has departed from this government as He left the Biblical Saul.”

Speaking through his Media Aide, Lere Olayinka, the former governor said the speed with which the petition against the CJN was acted upon clearly exposed the sinister intention of the Presidency, asking, “how is it explainable for a petition to be written on January 7, received by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) on January 9 and charges made against the CJN on January 11?”

He said “Meanwhile, former Abia State Governor, Orji Kalu who was declared wanted by the court for jumping bail is everywhere campaigning for the President and APC. Why didn’t the federal governor act swiftly in arresting Kalu like it acted on the petition against the CJN?”

Describing the move to remove the CJN as part of the Presidency’s plot to rig the February general elections, Fayose said, “the latest onslaught on the CJN and by extension, the judiciary is a well orchestrated plot to get a judicial soft-landing for the impending rigging of the presidential election in particular and other elections in favour of the APC.

“They are not unaware that the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) cannot try a sitting judge, but are only out to use the arraignment as a premise for asking Justice Onnoghen to step aside. In other words, they are not really interested in trying him, they only want him out and the moment he steps aside, nothing will be heard about the case again.”

The former governor said President Buhari never wanted Justice Onnoghen as CJN, adding that, “He refused to send his nomination to the Senate despite recommendation by the National Judicial Council (NJC). If not for the circumstances that took the President abroad, Onnoghen wouldn’t have become a substantive CJN.

“Therefore, moving against the CJN at this time is a clear sign of what to come if President Buhari is reelected and Nigerians must be resolute in their rejection of the President and his party on February 16.”

Politics / Woman Poisons Militants For Killing Hubby, Son by 14Ebiscoo: 5:10pm On Jan 13, 2019
An Iraqi woman has killed two Islamic State, IS militants by poisoning them in revenge for the killing of her son and her husband in the eastern province of Diyala, a local police officer said.

The two IS militants broke into the house of the 47-year-old widow, who is originally a relative to them, in a village located some 65 km northeast of Baghdad, and forced her to prepare a meal, the police officer told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The woman prepared the meal, poisoned it and fled her house and the village after the militants left, the source said.

Later on, many IS militants broke into her house and when they did not find her, they set fire to the house and searched some nearby houses in the village, the source added.

The militants told the villagers that the two poisoned militants were dead, according to the source.

The widow’s act came after the killing of her 16-year-old son in 2015 by IS militants and the killing of her husband earlier in 2011 by the extremist militants after he joined U.S.-backed Sahwa groups, also known as Awakening Councils who fought al-Qaida militants in Iraq.

Sadiq al-Husseini, head of the security committee in Diyala provincial council, told Xinhua that residents across the province are increasingly rejecting the extremist militants and this can be felt by the increasing cooperation by the residents with the security forces.

“Some of Diyala’s areas witnessed a sort of popular uprisings against the extremist militants and some residents fought alongside the security forces. This is an important indicator that will contribute to the eradication of extremism,” al-Husseini said.

Samir Musa, a security expert, told Xinhua that “there are many incidents carried out by the people against the militants of the terrorist organisation in retaliation to their earlier crimes, but those people are keen to keep such acts unrevealed for fear of reprisal killing from the families and relatives of the extremist militants.”

Musa said that there is an “undeclared war” currently being waged in the areas once under control of IS militants. “Many people refuse to cooperate with the extremist militants, and some of them took up arms against the terrorist organisation.”

The security situation in Iraq has dramatically improved after Iraqi security forces fully defeated the extremist IS militants across the country late in 2017. However, small groups and individuals of extremist militants melted or regrouped in urban and rugged areas, and have been carrying out attacks against the security forces and civilians despite operations from time to time to hunt them down.
