Davido, Nigerian Afrobeats artiste, says he’s not hellbent on breaking into the international music market.

The award-winning singer is among those promoting the Afrobeats genre on the global scene.

But Davido said he is only making international moves because he feels a sense of responsibility to promote “the culture”.

“To be honest, me, I’m not into this international stuff but I’m really doing it because I’m one of those people pioneering this movement,” the ‘Fia’ singer said in an interview with Pause.

“I have to put a cape on my back and do it for the culture but I always prefer being at home.”

When asked about African artistes in the diaspora who are trying to connect with the Nigerian audience, Davido said they should relocate to the country.

“If they’re trying to reach somewhere it’s the best place to be,” he said.

“But it just depends, to be honest. Mr Eazi was in London, then he came back.”

Comparing the African market to the European market, Davido said the vibe back home is bigger because “Africa can do 18,000 people, it’s crazy, but here (Europe) it’s like 8K, 10K.”

Davido is currently gearing up to release his new album in September, after which he intends to headline a concert at the O2 Arena in London.

Senator Aliyu Wamakko, representing Sokoto North on Saturday said defectors to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political parties from the All Progressives Congress (APC) will regret their actions.

Wamakko stated this on Saturday at a special rally in support of President Muhammadu Buhari and APC leadership organised by party loyalists following the defection of Governor Aminu Tambuwal to the PDP from the ruling APC on Aug. 1.

He described PDP as a dead political party, noting that Tambuwal’s exit was not a threat to the APC as the party still had two Senators, seven House of Representatives and 12 state Assembly members, besides high percentage of political elders, youths, women and others in the state.

He extended President Buhari’s goodwill message to the people of the state, saying that the Federal Government had executed many projects in the state contrary to the false assertion by Tambuwal.

The senator thanked Sokoto people on the warm reception, as well as solidarity in support of President Buhari and urged them to sustain the support to ensure victory of the APC in the 2019 elections.

“The present political situation in Sokoto is not between Wamakko and Governor Tambuwal but between APC as a political party and the dead PDP,” he said.

Wamakko enjoined Nigerians to shun detractors and continue supporting the good leadership of President Buhari and APC at all levels.

Also, the State APC Chairman, Alhaji Sadiq Achida, said the party was still in control in the state and will continue to do so.

Goodwill messages were also received from former Kebbi Governor, Nasamu Dakingari, and representative of Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Wamakko was received by mass crowd of supporters which delayed the landing of his aircraft for hours at the Sir Abubakar Airport, Sokoto.

Over 21 persons have been reportedly drowned in a boat mishap that took place in Gandi community in Rabah local government area of Sokoto state today August 2nd.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday quizzed Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, at the Commission’s office in Abuja.

According to the Independent, Mr. Ekweremadu arrived at the anti-graft agency’s office in Abuja between 9-10:00 a.m.

DAILY POST had reported that Ekweremadu would be questioned over some assets linked to him.

A source had said “Our detectives are expected to interrogate Ekweremadu on some assets linked with him. The EFCC is suspecting that the assets were acquired with suspicious funds.

“Some of these assets have been located in the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States.”

As at the time of filing this report, the Deputy Senate President was still with the EFCC.

Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje has exonerated himself on the impeachment of the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Yusuf Atta.

The Governor said he didn’t know anything about the plan to remove the speaker.

DAILY POST reports that earlier on Monday, 27 out of the 40 members of the state legislature signed the impeachment notice to remove Atta, representing Fagge Local Government constituency.

Speaking to newsmen when he received the new leadership of the assembly, led by the new Speaker, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, at the government house on Monday, Ganduje said he only received the news through several phone calls.

Ganduje, however, congratulated the new Speaker, urging him to carry everybody along and avoid anything that could hamper the success of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2019 elections.

According to him, it was a thing of delight that the impeachment was conducted peacefully without blows or injuries.

“I had no knowledge about what happened in the House of Assembly. It was later I started receiving several phone calls informing me about the development.

“I worked with assembly for 8 years as a deputy governor and 3 years as a governor, so I know how the events of Assembly are.

“Nevertheless, I congratulate the beneficiaries leadership and urge the Speaker to carry everybody along in order to tame factions that would affect the success of our great party in 2019.

“I am happy that you express your 100% support to our president, Muhammadu Buhari and his candidature in 2019. I am happy about this statement,” he noted.

Earlier in his remark, the new Speaker, Mr Rurum, said he paid the visit to the governor in order to formally present the new leadership of the assembly.

He said the new Deputy Speaker is Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, representing Makoda Local Government Constituency, the new Majority Leader is Baffa Babba Danagundi of Kano Municipal Constituency.

He added that the new Deputy Majority leader is Kabiru Hassan Dashi of Kiru Local Government Constituency.

The Chief Whip, according to Mr Rurum was Labaran Abdul Madari of Warawa Local Government Constituency.

Mr Rurum however claimed that the impeachment of Mr Ata was not done with a sinister motive, noting that it was conducted solely for the development of the state.

The new speaker also assured the assembly’s total support to Ganduje and Buhari in 2019 elections, restating commitments to establish synergy with the state government for the development of the state.

It would be recalled that the assembly attempted to impeach the embattled Mr Atta on May 17 this year when 24 out of the 40 members signed for his removal, but he was saved by Mr Ganduje.

“Dope” Director Rick Famuyiwa is attached to produce the Disney’s African Princess movie, “Sade.”

Disney is developing a fairytale film “Sade,” centered on the story of an African princess.

Rick Famuyiwa, who directed the 2015 drama “Dope,” is attached to produce the upcoming Disney film.

The movie will be based on a pitch bought by Disney from Ola Shokunbi and Lindsey Reed Palmer, who will co-write the screenplay about a young African girl named Sadé whose kingdom is threatened by a mysterious evil force and accepts her newly discovered magical powers to protect her people, with the help of the kingdom’s prince.

“Sade” comes after the successful outing of Marvel’s 2018 superhero film, “Black Panther,” set in the fictional African nation of Wakanda.

The movie has historical importance because it is the first Marvel film to feature a black protagonist, a black director and a predominately black cast.

With a worldwide box office grossing of $1.35 billion, “BlacK Panther” is the third-highest domestic grosser of all time at $700 million.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State yesterday, amid jubilation inaugurated the ultra modern civic centre in Enugu-Echi Ihe, Awgu Local Government Area, constructed with the first tranche of N5 million each recently released to the 450 autonomous communities in the state to execute development project of their choice.

Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration recently launched a grassroots development programme tagged “one community, one project”, which earmarked N10 million for each community in the state to carry out a project of their choice according to their peculiar needs to ensure that there is government presence in all the communities in Enugu State.

The ultra modern civic centre in Ihe was constructed with the first tranche of N5 million of the N10m.

Presenting the civic centre to the governor for inauguration, the traditional ruler of Ihe community, HRH Igwe Godwin Ekoh said the project is “the first of its kind” and “a vista to the avalanche of both realized and realizable development that the good government of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has engendered in Enugu State since its inception”.

Igwe Ekoh added that the people of Enugu-echi Ihe prior to the the construction of the civic centre lacked a place of gathering and hosting of community activities, expressing delight that the “priority project” has provided solution to the need of the people.

“It is a symbol of real and appreciable infrastructure that sprout and span the length and breadth of the state since Gov. Ugwuanyi took over the helm of affairs of Enugu State. It is a perfect example of promise fulfilled by a responsible and responsive government”, Igwe Ekoh said.

The monarch also commended Gov. Ugwuanyi for his administration’s grassroots development initiatives aimed at opening up the rural areas for all round economic growth as well as providing the basic needs of the dwellers.

According to him, “When His Excellency made the promise to make available N10m (in two tranches) to the 450 autonomous communities in Enugu State for developmental projects, it sounded too good to be true. Today, we are witnesses to the fulfillment of this promise which has translated into tangible projects across Enugu State”.

Expressing gratitude to Gov. Ugwuanyi for the “milestone” feat, Igwe Ekoh noted that the governor has not only advanced development in the rural areas but has also accelerated his dynamics and prospects for urbanization.

He said: “We are therefore overjoyed to receive the man of the moment. The man behind the accelerated development of Awgu, the brain behind the peace in the state and the architect of the transformation of Enugu State and the incoming governor come 2019, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi”.

Inaugurating the project, Gov. Ugwuanyi thanked the Royal Father and his subjects for the vision in constructing the event centre with the first tranche of N5 million recently released to them and reassured of more development projects that would address their peculiar needs.

The Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Barnabas Bala Bantex has declared his intention to contest for the southern Kaduna senatorial seat in 2019.

The senatorial district, currently represented by Danjuma Leah, is the only one the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has in the state.

Bantex’s declaration has confirmed reports that Governor Nasir el-Rufai, who is seeking re-election, will not run with him in the next election.

“With utmost confidence in the fair mindedness, the results accomplished, and the work being done by the APC government of Kaduna state, under the inspiring leadership of Malam Nasir el-Rufai, I have decided to offer myself as the APC candidate for the Kaduna south senatorial district in the forthcoming 2019 election.

“As deputy-governor, I have had several opportunities to witness this commitment to equity, and I regret that some of the elected representation from my zone has not matched this broad-mindedness and constructive approach, in the interest of our people in zone 3

“I have, therefore, come to the conclusion that it is worth leaving the office of deputy governor to put these issues on the ballot, encourage more mature and sober political discourse in the area, in order to deliver the desirable quality of representation for our people, and attract the maximum dividend of democracy,” Bantex said in a statement.

According to him, the decision to run for the Senate had been very difficult “in view of the uncommon goodwill and brotherly relationship that I currently enjoy with Malam Nasir El-Rufai who has elevated the relationship between Governor and Deputy Governor to a level of mutual respect, engagement and involvement that is unparalleled in our democracy.”

Sam Onuigbo, the member, representing Ikwuano/Umuahia constituency of Abia State, in the Federal House of Representatives, and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has attributed the mass defection of the APC senators and Reps members to the bad governance foisted on the people by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

He, however, expressed disappointment over the inability of the APC-led government to end the persistent killing of Nigerians by extremist groups in the country and opined that the governing party had failed to protect the citizenry.

DAILY POST had reported that about 15 senators of the ruling APC defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The defectors cited crisis and factions within the party as the reasons for their defection, saying they cannot continue to pursue their political careers under the ruling party.

Similarly, a total of 37 members of the House of Representatives announced their official defection from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party and African Democratic Party(ADC).

Onuigbo, who was a two-time commissioner in Abia state, stated this in a chat with DAILY POST on Thursday, while reacting to the cross-carpeting of APC senators to opposition parties.

According to the lawmaker, “The APC members who defected to the PDP in the National Assembly have been able to compare between APC and PDP in the governance of the party and in the governance of the country under these parties”.

“They have come back to PDP Because they had the opportunity like a woman who married two husbands. And they have come to the realization that, this husband is better than the other one”.

“Presently, there is no good governance. That’s why the cost of living is high in the country. There is inflation in the land. There is unemployment in the land”.

“And more importantly, a lot of killings have been going. The primary object of every government is for that government to protect lives and property. Today, they are not happy about that”.

“So, the defected APC lawmakers are now free on their own. They go on working with all the other groups in the PDP and indeed the entire nation, to ensure the country is brought back to proper governance,” he added.

The Lagos State government has announced that it has discovered the owner of the fuel tanker that was responsible for the explosion that claimed at least 12 lives in the state last month.

The Mack tanker truck, loaded with 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), lost control of its brake and exploded on Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway after spilling its content on June 28, 2018.

At least 12 people were killed in the inferno with a few others injured with varying degrees of burns.

Preliminary investigation by the government had revealed that the fuel tanker in question was registered in Kano State and had changed ownership 13 times since purchase.

However, while speaking during a meeting on investigations conducted about the accident, at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, the state’s Commissioner for Transportation, Ladi Lawanson, disclosed the current owner of the tanker to be a certain Hassan Yusuf Maiwaka.

According to reporters, Lawanson disclosed that Maiwaka will be brought to the state to face prosecution as the government had earlier ruled that the accident occurred due to a combination of the vehicular defect and human errors.

Earlier in July, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, disclosed plans to prosecute the driver as well as the owner of the fuel tanker. Lawanson had also disclosed that the tanker was originally designed as a 14,959kg (approximately 15 ton) drilling rig with a low bed in 1999 before it was converted in Nigeria to a fuel tank carrier of 30 tonnes.
He said;

“From this preliminary investigation, the truck should not have been loaded to the weight of 30 tonnes, which is twice its pulling capacity,”
he said.

55 cars lost in an accident

Tuesday’s meeting was convened by the state’s Ministry of Transport to enable the Nigerian Insurers Associations access vehicles damaged in the accident in order to take necessary steps in ensuring prompt and proper payment of compensation to the victims and their families.

Lawanson said a total of 55 vehicles were involved in the accident and 39 of them were registered in Lagos; and their owners have been traced and contacted.

The Director-General of Nigerian Insurers Associations, Yetunde Ilori, assured that all genuine cases of insurance claims involved in the accident will be supported and claims will be paid by the concerned insurance companies both for the burnt vehicles and lives lost.

Toyin, the wife of Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has sought to clear the air on the police siege on their Abuja residence on Tuesday over her husband’s alleged involvement in the Offa robbery in Kwara State.

Writing on her verified Twitter account on Wednesday morning, Toyin reacted to comments made by the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Jimoh Moshood, that the vehicles that blocked the road belonged to her.

Saraki has been implicated and was summoned for the second time to answer questions on the incident, by the Inspector-General of Police.

“Dear @channelstv @sunrisedailynow I am absolutely flabbergasted by @PoliceNG Jimoh Moshood on TV attempting to claim that these white vehicles that blockaded the road outside our Abuja residence could possibly be “protection provided to the Wife of the Senate President”!

“Secondly, I believe these vehicles bear a striking resemblance to cars donated by my dear brother @AlikoDangote. I hope DSP Jimoh Moshood can leave me out of this unseemly contretemps. Thank you!

“It was bad enough that I was forced to endure a mass invasion of my privacy, with the mis-identification of a guest at a private family occasion, falsely, as one of the @PoliceNG Offa Bank Robbery suspects. The Police did nothing to correct this widely circulated falsehood,” Toyin wrote.

Reports reaching DAILY POST from Abuja have it that officials of the Department of State Security Services, (DSS), the Police as well as the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday morning laid siege to the residence of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu in Abuja.

This is coming also after the Senate President, Bukola Saraki’s home was locked down by police officers and his convoy prevented from leaving the premises to attend to the invitation by the Inspector General of Police, Idris K. Ibrahim.

The reason behind their action is unclear at the moment as the officials have reportedly prevented the lawmakers from going out.

Confirming the development, Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Kola Ologbodiyan wondered why the security operatives were after the lawmakers.

He tweeted, “Security operatives block Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu,’s residence in Apo, Abuja… Senate President Bukola Saraki already invited by the Police by 8am… Is this a democracy?”

The police Tuesday morning blocked the Senate President Bukola Saraki’s convoy at Lake Chad junction in Abuja.

Saraki’s residence is located on the Lake Chad road.

He was reportedly on his way to report to the police headquarters upon the last night invitation by the police.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, on Monday asked Saraki to appear at the office of Intelligence Response Team (IRT) office in Abuja, over the robbery incident that took place in Offa, Kwara state, in April this year.

In a letter dated July 23 and addressed to Saraki, Idris asked the Senate President to be at IRT’s office at 8am on Tuesday “for further investigation”.

Meanwhile, Saraki has stated that the invitation to him by the Police to report to a station in Guzape over the Offa robbery investigation is a mere afterthought which is designed to achieve political purpose.

Saraki in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, stated that he has it on good authority that the Police had already decided on the suspects to arraign in court in Ilorin, Kwara State on Wednesday based on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mohammed U.E. and that the turn around to invite him was a ploy aimed at scoring cheap political points.

“I have been reliably informed that the police invitation was planned by IG as a ploy to stop an alleged plan by some Senators and House of Representatives members from defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC). It was also said that if I was detained between Tuesday and Wednesday, that will abort the so-called defection plan.

“While I continue to maintain that the issue of my position on the 2019 elections is not a personal decision for me alone to make, it should be noted that all these concoctions and evil plot cannot deter me. Those behind this fresh assault will fail as I have nothing to do with the robbery incident or any criminal matter for that matter.

“I am aware that following a request made by the Police on June 13, 2018 to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) of the Federation had written a legal advice dated June 22, 2018, in which he stated on page 5, paragraph (f) that “For the Senate President and the Kwara State Governor, this office is unable to establish from the evidence in the interim report a nexus between the alleged office and the suspects”.

“The Police have obviously corrupted and politicized their investigations into the Offa robbery incident. They have turned it into an instrument for the party in power to suppress perceived opponents, witchunt issue for blackmailing people from freely choosing which platform on which they want to pursue their ambition and a matter for harassing the people whose exit from APC would harm the chances of the party in the forthcoming elections.”

Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige has faulted the stand of the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on the constitution and inauguration of the board members of federal agencies and parastatal under his ministry.

The APC chairman, in a letter, had given the labour minister one week within which to constitute the board of the parastatals and agencies under his ministry.

The parastatals and agencies are the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), National Directorate of Employment (NDE), National Productivity Centre (NPC), and Michael Imoudu Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS).

But, Ngige, in his reply, explained why he would not constitute the Board of NSITF within the one week ultimatum given by Oshiomhole. He expressed disbelief that such a letter could emanate from the APC chairman.

He said: “Our National Chairman, I am in receipt of a letter referenced APC/NHDQ/ GEN-S/28/018/003 dated July 11, 2018, which was sent from your office and received by me on July 12, 2018. Ordinarily, I would not believe the letter was from you except for the barrage of media statements that came before I saw the letter. I read the contents of this letter with both amazement and utter disbelief.

“Three agencies have been reconstituted and members were inaugurated on March 8, 2018, in conformity with a presidential directive. All the three boards are currently operational. The only agency left out was the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), which, before the directive, had been enmeshed in major issues of corruption, involving about N48 billion, comprising Federal Government and employers’ contributions to the Employees’ Compensation Fund, plus some non-remitted PAYE taxes, which were carted away through well perfected sleaze operation. This resulted in the agency coming under the EFCC’s investigation/prosecution of members of the former board and some of her serving officials.

“An Administrative and Financial Panel of Enquiry was instituted with a presidential approval as a follow – up to the criminal investigations. This was followed by a House of Representatives Committee on Labour and Employment probe in March 2018, which is still ongoing.

“Comrade National Chairman, you are aware of this situation and you had broached this issue with me during your campaign period, when I visited your campaign office. Due to the fact that a lot of the information available to me as a minister are classified, I had told you that I will brief you later and, at our last meeting, during a function on Saturday, July 7, 2018, I had sought for an appointment for the next day, so I could brief you on the situation.”

“I’m not oblivious of the fact that you are a very interested party in the matter because having served as chairman of the NSITF board before the last board, and as a former Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) president, you would be interested in the tripartite colouration of the board being maintained. More so, as labour still remains your base constituency. Mr. Chairman, a lot of the classified information from the EFCC, the Auditor-General of the Federation’s “spot check” report for an organisation with an account that has not been audited for five years – 2013 – 2017, are not within your purview. In view of all these damaging reports, I had a presidential permission not to inaugurate this particular board at the time we did the others.”

The former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has slammed President Buhari-led administration over the continued detention of embattled former National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki.

Buhari’s minister, Malami had on Thursday said Dasuki won’t be released despite bails granted to him.

He accused Dasuki of causing 100,000 deaths

Reacting, Fani Kayode on his Twitter page said the allegation by Malami that Dasuki killed Nigerians was a lie, calling on the government to obey the rule of law and release him.

The former minister also condemned the judiciary system in the country describing rule of law as ‘vile, irresponsible, shameful and utterly nauseating.’

He wrote, “Dasuki won’t be released despite numerous bails because he caused 100,000 deaths”– Min. of Justice Malami. This is a LIE from the pit of hell! you must stop believing your own propaganda. your govt is not above the law and whether u like it or not u MUST obey court orders!

“Col. Dasuki did not cause any deaths and he did not divert any money from funds for the war against Boko Haram. Yours is a lying, lawless, govt. that is scared of its own shadow, that is terrified of Dasuki and that refuses to obey court orders and abide by the rule of law.

“You cannot be the accuser, the prosecutor, the judge and the jury. You are NOT a court of law, you CANNOT pronounce guilt on the accused and your villainous contempt for due process, the rule of law and the judiciary is vile, irresponsible, shameful and utterly nauseating!”

Dasuki was arrested by operatives of the State Security Services in December 2015, over his alleged involvement in illegal possession of firearms.

The former NSA was also accused of diverting $2.1billion from his office while he served as NSA.

He is facing separate trials for the alleged offences.

Since his arrest in 2015, Dasuki has been granted bail multiple times by different courts. The latest bail was on July 17.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Friday said President Muhammadu ​Buhari ​should “perish the thought of trying to use the unveiling of a nonexistent national carrier to beguile Nigerians now that election is around the corner”​.​

PDP claimed that the new national carrier was a plot by the Buhari’s Presidency to​ allegedly​ siphon billions of naira.

The party said it was unfortunate that “having run out of fake promises and not having any development project to parade,” Buhari and his party, All Progressives Congress, APC, have “now resorted to international kite-flying aimed at hoodwinking unsuspecting Nigerians.”

In a statement by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, the opposition party said​,​

“Is it not comical that while other nations are unveiling and rolling out real planes, the Buhari administration, in a most hilarious manner, is ‘unveiling’ drawings of an airplane, name, logo and imaginary routes of a nonexistent fleet, as our national carrier, in faraway London?

“What President Buhari and his handlers fail to understand is that Nigerians can see through their fraud and lies.

“Apart from drawings of airplanes, there are no structures to indicate that a new airline, billed to commence operation in December this year, is being set up; there are no offices, no recruitment of personnel and no form of ground activity anywhere in the country.

“Does it not smack of pure scam that less than six months to commence operations, the supposed new airline has not even started the process of licensing, even when it takes a minimum of six months for a new airline to obtain Air Operating License and three months to develop its manuals?
