PoliticsAkwa-ibom Assembly Passes 29 Bills, 120 Resolutions by 14Ebiscoo(op): 10:47am On Jul 19, 2018
The Akwa-Ibom House of Assembly had said that a total of 29 Bills and 120 resolutions have been passed in the last three years.

The Speaker of the House, Barr Onofiok Luke, who disclosed this on Wednesday, while addressing members at the closing sitting of the 3rd Legislative Year, said the different committees of the house also conducted 30 public hearings during the period..

The bills, the Speaker said, include 15 private member bills out of 41 presented, and 14 executive bills with about 37 others currently at different legislative stages.

“This modest effort brings to 26 the total number of laws passed so far by the 6th assembly. We have been able to achieve this much because we have corporately committed ourselves to accelerating legislative actions on our bills and motions.

“In the last 3 years for instance, standing and ad hoc committees of this honourable house have conducted at least 30 public hearings on private member and executive bills, the highest so far in the history of the assembly,” he said.

These events, Luke said, had attracted informed inputs into the bills, and centred the laws around the actual needs of the people, while meeting the long term development goals of the state, as well as the short term ambitions of government.

Narrating their achievements, Luke said, “we have passed bills to fast-track economic development and to diffuse the dividends of democracy directly to the masses. We have passed bills to strengthen local government administration in the state; bills to hasten the dispensation of justice; bills to fortify the state’s education system particularly at the tertiary level; bills to boost the revenue base of Akwa Ibom

“Bills to meet the social, health, and infrastructural needs of the people, environmental protection laws and only recently, we passed into law the bill to create and regulate job opportunities for Akwa Ibom people in corporate organizations in the state. Today, we have passed into law the Akwa Ibom State Violence Against Persons Prohibition Bill 2018.

“With 35 motions and more than 120 house resolutions standing to the credit of the current assembly, this house has been steadily making interventions and defending the interest of Akwa Ibom people. We have held public hearings and openly treated petitions to the house by our constituents; we have engaged in rigorous oversight tasks with the view to oiling the wheels of government for optimal performance.

“In recognition of security as a defining pillar in the development dynamics of every society, this House during this legislative year played key interventionist role to ensure the safety of lives and property in some crises areas of the state. We are for instance putting plans in place to organise the first ever legislative-security summit by this house to brace up the state’s security architecture. We are already in talks with partner security agencies in this regard.”

The Speaker who commended the commitment of members and reminded them of the onerous task awaiting them in the next 11 months, which would be critical to the success of the current administration and the take off of a new one.

“We must be ready to engage in productive partnership with institutions in order to consolidate fully on our 3–year achievements. This relationship will prove even more useful as they will help the next assembly hit the ground running. Also, we must consolidate our efforts in the key mandate area of lawmaking. There is need for the solidification of existing sound policies of government.

“We will be giving legislative leverage to provably productive policies of the current administration. This will no doubt improve the functionality of those policies when they are put into full throttle in the second term of the administration. Policies within agriculture, manufacturing, as well as trade and investment subsectors will be considered for sustenance through the instrumentality of the law,” Luke concluded.

PoliticsOsinbajo, Saraki, ACF Sympathise With Katsina Flood Victims by 14Ebiscoo(op): 1:30am On Jul 18, 2018
The Vice-President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, on Tuesday assured victims of Sunday’s rainstorm/flooding incident at Jibiya, Katsina State of the Federal Government assistance.

Osinbajo gave the assurance at Jibiya while addressing those displaced as a result of the incident.

The Vice-President arrived at about 6.15pm at the Muhammadu Rabiu Model Primary School complex, Jibiya, where those displaced were being temporarily accommodated.

He was accompanied by the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari.

Osinbajo said, “The President has told me to assure everybody that where compensation is necessary, we will compensate.

“We shall make sure that this sort of thing does not repeat itself. We pray this kind of thing does not repeat itself.”

Earlier, the VP inspected the areas worst hit by the flood.

Meanwhile, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and the Arewa Consultative Forum have sympathised with victims of the flood.

Saraki, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, described the floods in Katsina and Ogun states as a nightmare.

He said, “What happened in Katsina and Ogun states was a nightmare. We have a duty to play our role to ensure that this avoidable loss of precious lives does not repeat itself both in the affected communities and elsewhere in the country.”

While calling on town planning agencies to take their job more seriously, he called on Nigerians in flood-prone areas to heed the warnings of the Nigerian Metrological Agency so as to prevent further loss of lives and property.

On its part, the ACF, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim-Biu, said, “The forum acknowledges the efforts of both the Katsina State and Federal Governments emergency management agencies, other public-spirited individuals and groups for rendering humanitarian assistance to the displaced persons now living in makeshift camps.

“The ACF, however, urges the agencies to do more in order to ameliorate the suffering of the displaced persons.”

The ACF prayed to God to restore the displaced persons.

Meanwhile, the Muhammadu Rabiyu Model Primary School complex along Kaura Namoda Road, Jibiya, Katsina State has now become a temporary home for over 100 households displaced as a result of last Sunday overnight rainstorm.

The rainstorm officially claimed 44 lives and washed away 500 houses in the Katsina State border town of Jibiya.

The displaced persons, numbering about 5,000, are being taken care of by officials of the State Emergency Management Agency and their National Emergency Management Agency counterparts.

Other voluntary agencies, including members of Nigeria Aids Group, were also seen attending to the displaced people during a visit on Tuesday by our correspondent.

A resident, who gave his name as Balarabe Yusufu, said many people were swept away by the heavy flood which occurred between 11 pm on Sunday and 4 am on Monday.

Yusufu, a civil servant, said “The 44 being claimed as the number of casualties was an official figure and it was based on the number of bodies recovered. The heavy flooding swept off several people while they were sleeping as their houses collapsed on them.

A 48-year-old farmer, Ismaila Ayuba told The PUNCH that he lost two children to the rainstorm in addition to his valuables.

Ayuba gave the names of the children as Rabi, 7 and Muhammad, 3.

He said, “I am now left with nothing. I lost a house, two goats and everything I had in the flood.

“Only God saved me too as the water flooded the whole house before it collapsed about 3 am. My wife and I had to swim through the flood. Unfortunately, the children could not and they were swept off. Up to now, we have not seen their corpses.”

A 70-year-old woman, Hajiya Badiya Ashiru, said in addition to losing a house to the flood, she also lost about N3m kept in her care.

A top SEMA official, who pleaded anonymity, said no additional corpse had been found.

Meanwhile, sympathisers were still thronging the school complex to see the displaced persons.

However, the corpse of a 20-month-old boy, Jafaar Shaibu, was found on Tuesday evening shortly before the arrival of the Vice-President.

The corpse, according to the mother of the deceased boy, Aminatu Shaibu, was buried immediately.

Politics2019: PDP Picks Lamido Over Atiku by 14Ebiscoo(op): 6:47am On Jul 15, 2018
The Katsina State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Saturday declared its support for the presidential ambition of former Jigawa Governor, Sule Lamido, in the forth-coming party primaries slated for August, thus effectively shutting the door for other aspirants, including former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

The State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Salisu Yusuf Majigiri, made this known during a reception organized for Lamido.

According to him, Lamido has towered above other aspirants, with his progressive agenda and commitment to a united Nigeria.

“Lamido has remained a committed and enduring progressive in the last 5o years, who had fought for a strong and united Nigeria, he identified with other progressive minds like Abubakar Rimi, Solomon Lar, Bola Ige, Alex Ekwueme, Iyorchia Ayu and several others in the struggle to liberate Nigeria from ethnic cleavages.

“He has equally identified with the common man and ensured their improved standard of living as demonstrated while he was the governor of Jigawa state, we have no choice than to throw our weight behind and assure him of our goodwill and support, hoping that when he comes to power he will remember the state,” Majigiri said.

Foreign AffairsPaul Biya Seeking For Seventh Term In Office by 14Ebiscoo(op): 8:52am On Jul 14, 2018
Cameroon President, Paul Biya has announced his intention to run for re-election.

Biya explained that he wants to contest again because the people urged him to do so.

“I am willing to respond positively to your overwhelming calls. I will stand as your candidate in the upcoming presidential election,” Biya said in a tweet on Friday.

The October 7 election comes amid separatist insurgency in the western English-speaking regions and dwindling economy.

Biya scrapped the Central African country’s term limits from the constitution in 2008.

He came to power in 1982 when his predecessor retired and a seventh term in office could see the 85-year-old rule into his 90s.

Only Equatorial Guinea’s President, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has ruled uninterrupted for a longer period.

Former Zimbabwe President, Robert Mugabe (1980 – 2017) and Gambia’s Yahya Jammeh (1994 – 2017) were ousted in 2017.

PoliticsShehu Sani, Hunkuyi, Others Dump APC by 14Ebiscoo(op): 5:58pm On Jul 13, 2018
Members of Akida and Restoration groups of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kaduna State on Friday announced their withdrawal from the party.

The Chairman of the Akida group, Matamaiki Tom-Maiyashi announced the decision of the two groups at a press conference in Kaduna.

He said they left because the APC was not ready to accommodate alternative opinions or allow democracy to take its course in the conduct of party affairs.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that prominent members of the two groups include Senators Shehu Sani (APC Kaduna Centra) and Suleiman Hunkuyi (APC Kaduna North), Tijjani Ramalan, owner of Liberty Radio and Television stations, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed among others.

Tom-Maiyashi said: “This joint Press Conference is the culmination of extensive reviews and consultations over the state of the All Progressives, Congress (APC) in Kaduna State as well as in the nation.

“As you will appreciate, groups such as ours that had been part of the efforts to keep our Party along the lines of survival, accountability and integrity will be diligent in ensuring that whatever steps we take are consistent with our high sense of responsibility.

“We are satisfied that the positions we have arrived at are in the best interests of our members and the ongoing efforts to create options and strategies that will rid our nation of underserved and avoidable challenges.

“Members of our two groups have decided to leave the APC because it is incapable of accommodating and responding to well-meaning dissent, criticism and demands for inclusiveness and internal democracy,“ Tom-Maiyashi said.

He criticised the party, saying it had failed the millions of people who labored to put it and who expected genuine change.

“We are hereby advising all our teeming members to formalize their withdrawal from the APC.

“We are engaged in serious discussions with parties which share our values and principles towards political collaboration that best suits our interests, and in due course, we will make public the outcome of these discussions.

“We want to commend the resilience and commitment of our members in the face of institutionalized exclusion, marginalization and abuse. We urge them all to keep faith,“ he said.

CrimeMan Remanded Over Alleged Rape Of 10-year-old Boy by 14Ebiscoo(op): 2:24pm On Jul 13, 2018
A Sokoto State Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered that one Mohammed Bello, 18, be remanded in prison for allegedly raping a 10-year old boy.

Abubakar Adamu, the Chief Magistrate, gave the order on Friday after Bello, a trader at Gagi Area, Sokoto, pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of unnatural offence.

The Prosecutor, Abubakar Tambuwal, had told the court that the accused committed the offence between February and April.

Tambuwal said that the accused intentionally lured a 10-year-old boy into his room and had sexual intercourse with him against the order of nature.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the Penal Code.

Adamu said the court lacked jurisdiction over the matter and adjourned the case until July 21 for mention and possible transfer of the case.

PoliticsEkiti: Nigerians In Trouble – Ex-minister Blasts Buhari Over Fayose by 14Ebiscoo(op): 8:56pm On Jul 12, 2018
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has condemned Police attacks on the Governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose and the law-abiding citizens of the state.

He said the development further proved that Nigerians were going through bad leadership under President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, noted that the Ekiti saga was another low point in the litany of breaches of the Constitution and indeed, the rule of law which has become the hallmark of the APC-led Federal Government.

The ex-Minister said: “Imagine a governor who has constitutional immunity and is also supposed to be the Chief Security Officer of his state being brutalized by security officers.

“His security details are being withdrawn while movement into his official residence is being restricted. What then is the hope of the ordinary Nigerian?” he asked.

Turaki recalled that a similar ‘jungle’ treatment was meted out to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike in the past and the Gestapo approach adopted in arresting some revered judges of the Supreme Court on mere allegations which could not be proved at the temple of justice.

The attitude, he said, is consistent with the continued intimidation and harassment of leaders of the opposition party, the PDP especially.

The aspirant reminded Nigerians of his consistent warnings that the APC is entrenching a legacy of despotism, intimidation, harassment of persons or groups not sharing its views, nepotism, insecurity and poverty on the people.

“Here is a government that talks ill of its citizens at will, thereby lowering their estimation in the eyes of the international community” he regretted.

“The chicken has come home to roost with the government baring its fangs in Ado Ekiti in its desperation to win Saturday’s governorship election by hook or by crook.

“Obviously, the upcoming governorship election in Osun State and the 2019 General Elections, and indeed, Nigeria’s democracy face serious danger unless men and women of goodwill with the support of the International community rise to defend constitutional rule in Nigeria.”

PoliticsFed Govt Launches National Campaign Against Fake News by 14Ebiscoo(op): 10:10am On Jul 12, 2018
The Federal Government yesterday launched National Campaign Against Fake News, advising Nigerians to be vigilant.

But the Minister of Information and Culture, Alh. Lai Mohammed, said the campaign would not lead to press gag or media censorship.

He said:

“There is an epidemic sweeping the world. If left unchecked, it could be worse than all the plagues that the world has recorded put together. It is a clear and present danger to global peace and security. It is a threat to democracy. It is the epidemic of Fake News. Mixed with hate speech, it is a disaster waiting to happen.

“For the media, the epidemic is even worse. This is because fake news, in most cases designed to misinform, undermines confidence in the media. And once the people lose confidence in the media, the

society is in trouble.

“Let’s be straight. Fakes News is not new. It is said to be as old as the printing press. What has made it an issue of concern is the means and speed at which it is now spread around the world, and that

means is the social media.

“Anyone with a phone and internet access can author and make fake news go viral in minutes. With the number of mobile phone users in the world expected to pass the 5 billion mark by 2019, you can see the kind of crisis we face.

Mohammed explained why the government decided to launch the campaign now in the country.

“ For those who may not know, we have been calling national attention to the issue of fake news, misinformation and hate speech since 2017.

“We even organized a special National Council on Information on the issue of fake news, misinformation and hate speech in Jos in July 2017. And at a conference for media handlers of state governors, in Abuja in 2017, we warned that fake news and misinformation could pose a threat to the 2019 general elections.

“Unfortunately, instead of abating, the fake news issue, which became a global phenomenon in the wake of the 2016 US election, has grown worse, hence our decision to launch this National Campaign Against Fake News.

“The essence of this campaign is to sensitize all Nigerians to the dangers posed to the peace and security, and indeed the corporate existence of Nigeria by the phenomenon, and the fact that each and every Nigerian has a role to play in curtailing the spread of fake news.

PoliticsR-APC: How Buhari, Governors Caused APC Crisis – Shehu Sani by 14Ebiscoo(op): 12:48pm On Jul 10, 2018
Shehu Sani, Senator representing Kaduna Central has blamed the emergence of the Reformed All Progressives Congress, R-APC, on the failure of President Muhammadu Buhari and state governors.

Sani said the emergence of R-APC was in response to the poor governance and lack of focus of Buhari’s government.

The lawmaker berated Buhari’s style of leadership and APC’s inability to address the numerous challenges of the nation.

Speaking with Guardian, Sani, noted that R-APC was on a mission to salvage the nation from those who wanted to ensure that the challenges facing the country and its people were unresolved.

Sani said the APC “has plunged Nigeria into crisis that have defied solution due to the inability of President Buhari to check the excesses of those in command structure of the party and led it astray in the past three years.

“The reformed APC is a product of the crisis within the APC in the last three years. The reformed APC became a convergence of people that are aggrieved in the party; the legislators that have been marginalized, and most importantly, for the shoddy, mischievous and destructive congresses that was held under (Chief John) Oyegun’s chairmanship of the party.”

Noting that the R-APC had no grouse with Adams Oshiomhole, because he was just sworn-in into office, Sani said, “but, our concern was that in the last three years under Oyegun, the party lost its integrity, lost its unity and it has lost its value in the eyes and minds of many of its members because of the injustice and the cruelty and persecution meted on us while the party remained silent.

“R-APC is made up of about three to four categories of people. It comprises legislators that were systematically marginalized and unjustly treated by their state governors and backed by the party in the last three years. It also comprises non-elected APC members, who were treated badly and whom the party never carried along in all its activities.”

PoliticsRanching: PDP Warns Gov. Obaseki Against Handing Edo People’s Land To Herdsmen, by 14Ebiscoo(op): 7:10pm On Jul 09, 2018
The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has warned that any attempt by Governor Godwin Obaseki to turn the state into a grazing field will be vehemently resisted.

The party said it would not allow the forceful taking of people’s land and surrendering same to Fulani herdsmen for grazing purposes by the state government.

Chairman of the party in the state, Dan Orbih, gave the warning while receiving All Progressives Congress, APC, and Labour Party, LP, defectors from four Local Government Areas of Oredo, Egor, Orhionmwon and Igueben.

He said, “On no condition should Godwin Obaseki concede lands to anybody under any guise.

“We have been mandated by Edo people to inform President Muhammadu Buhari to delist Edo State as one of the states earmarked for his cattle ranching pilot scheme. The president should replace Edo State with his home state of Katsina.”

The party chairman also expressed sadness over the Executive Order No. 6 which gives President Muhammadu Buhari the authority to forcefully seize properties belonging to Nigerians.

“President Buhari can’t arrogate the powers of the various arms of government of the legislature and judiciary to himself alone,” he said.

Receiving the defectors, the PDP chairman declared that “today marked the beginning of political harvest into the PDP in Edo State.

“There are strong indications that APC leaders and members from virtually all the local government chapters in the state are ready to dump the party and increase the numerical strength of the PDP.

“This mass defection of APC members in the state to PDP is an indication that Obaseki has failed in his two years in government, which he used in signing only MoUs.”

Politics2019: Bauchi R-APC Vows To Dislodge Buhari, Abubakar by 14Ebiscoo(op): 10:32am On Jul 09, 2018
The Bauchi State chairman of the Reformed All Progressive Congress, R-APC, Sani Malam Shehu has vowed that the faction would do everything within the ambit of the law to dislodge President Muhammadu Buhari and governor Abubakar of Bauchi State in 2019.

He said the action would be taken if all avenues were exhausted on the push for APC to entertain rAPC demands, following failed congresses in most states.

Shehu exclusively told DAILY POST in Bauchi that the APC failed congresses were the root cause of the party’s problems ahead of the 2019 elections.

“Let me tell you that APC is the worst party in terms of injustice to its teaming supporters. Governors were allowed to hijack the party’s Congresses and smuggle in their errand boys to save their second term bid.

“We are just waiting for 2019 election and Nigerians should watch the repeat of 2015 elections where same PDP supporters voted the party out; same will happen to APC if nothing is done to right the wrongs in respect of APC failed congresses,” Shehu said.

He added that the Bauchi State chapter of the rAPC would soon be inaugurated, urging the supporters “to always remain calm and law abiding.”

PoliticsDSS Didn’t Arrest Me Over Biafra, APC Trying To Shut Me Up – Senator Abaribe by 14Ebiscoo(op): 6:55pm On Jul 08, 2018
The Senator representing Abia South Senatorial district, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is doing the same things it accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of doing, and even worse.

Abaribe stated this on Saturday during a reception held in his honour in Aba, Abia state.

“The same thing that the APC accused PDP of doing, they are doing more and worse, the PDP Government was paying around N800 billion in subsidy when the fuel pump price per liter was N85, now the fuel pump price per liter is N145 yet APC is paying N1.4 trillion, so they should tell us how.

“There is no need calling it a name, under-recovery, what is wrong is wrong, even the change of name does not change it,” he said.

Abaribe’s comments came days after he was arrested and eventually released from the Department of State Services (DSS) custody.

He has now stated that he was incarcerated for doing nothing.

“The reason that was given when they came to search my residence is that I was accused of being a sponsor of the proscribed organization called IPOB.

“Those who accused me have done their search and since then, I have not heard anything from them, which means that certainly have not been able to find a reason for the arrest and detention,” he said.

Abaribe further accused the APC of attempting to arrest all those in the opposition.

“My party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the Ekiti State Rally sounded it loud and clear, that what the APC government wants to do is to take everybody out of circulation by arresting all of us.

“Of course, it is very sad for Nigeria, because PDP has been here for 16 years and all manner of people criticized the party and they were not arrested, so APC government should learn from us on how to manage criticism.

“People are being killed everywhere in Nigeria, and somebody is telling us that we should not blame him. They started by saying that it was the Libyans and then they turned around and said it was because of the laws that were passed.

“When we pointed out to them that the people were being killed in areas where there were no laws passed, they turned around and said, please try to live with your neighbours.

“When we said no, and questioned who are our neighbors were, they said, oh no, what you have to do is to pray. We have also prayed, and I prayed over there where they kept me, and I said “Oh God, our help in ages past” who has always helped us at every perilous moment like this, Our God will also save Nigeria, and we cannot have the APC Government continue.

“Let them wait for us, we are coming. Their arrest and detention will not make us stop saying the truth. I am a patriot, a patriotic Nigeria, and I will stand by this country,” the Senator added.

EducationAAUA Graduates Dominate New Admin Officers In Ondo by 14Ebiscoo(op): 3:53am On Jul 05, 2018
THE vice chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, says the revelation that AAUA products constitute a substantial percentage of the newly-recruited administrative officers in the state’s civil service is an attestation to the quality of graduates being produced in the university.

Ajibefun stated this on Thursday last week when the acting Permanent Secretary, Service Matters Department in the Office of the Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philip, told the university management that about 14 of the 50 new Admin Officers are graduates of AAUA.

The team was in the university as part of their orientation and familiarisation visits round the state.

He specially congratulated some of the officers who are AAUA alumni, notind that their employment is a testimony to the critical roles of the university in not just the state, but across the globe.

Ajibefun urged them to continue to be good ambassadors of the university.

The vice chancellor said the Adekunle Ajasin University has carved an enviable niche for itself in the comity of institutions in Nigeria and beyond, and has become a veritable source of qualitatively-trained manpower to the national space.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the team, Mr. Bayo Philip, had informed the gathering that the 50 newly-hired officers were chosen after several rigorous rounds of academic and mental tests.

He further lauded the contributions of AAUA to the manpower development of the state. He also informed the gathering that the visit was part of the team’s familiarization tour of important places and institutions in the state.

University souvenir was later presented to the team leader by the Registrar, Michael S. Ayeerun, who also appreciated the team on behalf of the management.

PoliticsPlateau Killings: CAN Reveals What’ll Happen If Buhari Fails To Act by 14Ebiscoo(op): 7:20pm On Jul 03, 2018
The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the 17 Southern States has lamented the inaction of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration over the killing of innocent Nigerians in some states in the North.

The Christian group said that the insecurity pervading the country, particularly in the North Central zone, posed grave danger to the conduct of next year’s general elections.

CAN said the continued killing and destruction of property was a sign of total collapse of security architecture in Nigeria, adding that the conduct of the 2019 election was under serious jeopardy due to the situation.

The Southern CAN spoke in reaction to the killing of over 100 residents of Plateau State by suspected herdsmen.

Secretary of the organization, Dr. Joseph Ajujungwa, spoke to newsmen in Enugu on Wednesday.

The organization said, “CAN is saddened that many days after that avoidable massacre of innocent Nigerians in Plateau State, government is still telling the same old-fashioned stories.

“For every murderous act of these marauders, the Federal Government and the security agencies reel out words of assurance that never yield any fruit.

“We restate once again that the incessant, senseless and wicked killings going on in the Middle Belt and South-East is totally unacceptable to us.”

CAN wondered why the government had never prosecuted any of the AK-47 wielding-herdsmen who had murdered hundreds of Nigerians but rushed to convict to death 5 Christians for allegedly killing one of the attackers.

“There is grave injustice in this country and they are not even pretending about it. These people are using AK 47 killing everybody; almost 200 were killed in Jos but the police never arrested any, army never arrested any, and we are saying there is security, there is no security in Nigeria,

“We are calling on the Federal Government; if we have security, let them rise to the challenge. “This is not good for this democracy, especially at a time we are preparing for election and such thing is happening, I don’t think it is to the best interest of Nigeria. It is putting the election in jeopardy,” he further stated.

PoliticsSagay Says No One Can Spare Obasanjo From Indictment, Give Reasons by 14Ebiscoo(op): 9:38am On Jul 03, 2018
The Chairman of Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, PACAC, Prof. Itse Sagay, SAN, has opined that no individual or gathering can spare previous President Olusegun Obasanjo from arraignment if discovered blameworthy of defilement.

He said this in response to Obasanjo's ongoing gathering with the authority of the Yoruba socio-social gathering, Afenifere.

Talking with New Telegraph, Sagay said Obasanjo was running from column to post, looking for innate shield against his past yet that such move can't stop his arraignment if discovered at fault of debasement.

He stated, "What has happened as of late was that after Obasanjo propelled an unending arrangement of assaults on the present president (Muhammadu Buhari), they too began doling out at interims a portion of his shenanigans and gross unfortunate behavior, that is the thing that has made him awkward.

"For what reason would it be a good idea for anybody to rally any individual who isn't in risk? What's more, in the event that he is in threat; what sort of risk would he say he is in? What did he do that is presently unpleasant him?

"He is running from column to post, searching for the Yoruba to assemble. The entire thing, for me, is an affirmation of things that we don't know that he is searching for cutting edge security against the outcomes of his transgressions.

"I have experienced the rundown of the general population there; I don't think they will have any effect at the race. That is reality.

"This nation is a country of law. On the off chance that anyone has done anything that is criminal, there is no social affair that can spare him from that. It is his guiltlessness and good expert that can spare him, not a social affair of individuals who can't give a record of his exercises or can set up his honesty.

"These are not the general population who can spare him despite the fact that they accumulated around him. For me, that social affair on Saturday was only for appear; it has no significance."

Politics2019: I Won’t Spoil My Family’s Name – INEC Chairman, Yakubu by 14Ebiscoo(op): 5:58pm On Jul 01, 2018
The Independent National Election (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has again assured that the 2019 election will be free and fair.

He said this during an interaction with political editors of media organisations on Saturday in Lagos.

“If there is anything I am going to leave INEC with is my reputation as academic. I am going back to my academic profession where I came from,” he said.

“So, whatever it takes to earn a good name for this country, for myself and my family I will do so.

“The only thing we have is our values and we work very hard to ensure that we leave with our values intact

Yakubu added that the commission had five bye-elections to conduct, to fill the existing vacancies, but it was still awaiting official communication from the National Assembly to declare the seats vacant.

He said while the law compelled INEC to conduct bye-elections within stipulated time, it was the presiding officers of the National Assembly or State House of Assemblies that could declare any seat vacant.

“We have no any power to declare the seat of any lawmaker vacant.

“The moment the returning officers make announcement declaring a candidate winner, only the court of law can reverse it.

“We cannot declare vacancy and conduct bye-election unless there is a formal communication from the presiding officers of that Assembly.

“So this is not a matter under the control of the commission.”

Yakubu also disclosed that the commission had slightly redesigned its voter register to take care of incidence where the smart card readers could not read the fingerprints of the owner.

PoliticsBoko Haram Attack Invade IDP Camp In Borno, Kill 4 People by 14Ebiscoo(op): 10:23am On Jul 01, 2018
Suspected Boko Haram members have killed no fewer than four people during a raid on an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp on Saturday in Borno State.

It was gathered that the gunmen entered the camp in the town of Banki near the border with Cameroon in the night.

“Boko Haram terrorists entered Banki IDP (internally displaced people) camp last night and killed four people, injured four others and took supplies away with them,” a military officer in the town told newsmen.

The source said shots drew the attention of soldiers and policemen outside the camp, who then engaged the militants in an hour-long gun battle.

“Two terrorists were killed in the fight and the rest fled,” he added.

A member of a militia force assisting the military said the attackers used ladders to scale a ditch dug around the camp.

Hours later, two soldiers were wounded when their patrol vehicle hit a landmine planted by the fleeing jihadists at Freetown village, nine kilometres away from Banki.

PoliticsPlateau Killings: Are You For Nigerians – Okogie Queries Buhari, Asks President by 14Ebiscoo(op): 10:52am On Jun 30, 2018
A former Archbishop of the Catholic Arch Diocese of Lagos, Cardinal Anthony Olubunmi Okogie, has written President Muhammadu Buhari, demanding to know if the president is truly a Nigerian.

Okogie also asked President Buhari to renounce the presidential seat since he has failed to protect lives and property of Nigerians.

The cleric wondered why some All Progressives Congress, APC governors were busy dancing at the Eagles Square, Abuja while Nigerians were being slaughtered like cows in Plateau State last weekend.

He accused the President of deliberately refusing to stop killings perpetrated by Fulani militant, asking him to step down honourably.

The former Archbishop said this in an open letter to Buhari, entitled, “Dear Mr. President, Call a Spade a Spade.”

He said, “Dear Mr. President, we must call spade a spade. You were elected to protect the land and its people but neither is being protected under your watch.

“ You therefore have the most important decision of your career to make. And that decision is this : Are you for Nigerians or not?”

The cleric pointed out that the number of killings so far recorded under the Buhari – led administration showed that the government had failed on security.

He said, “The number ( of Nigerians ) killed under your watch, Mr. President, provides more than convincing evidence that the government you lead has failed to secure our lives. You are the Commander-in -Chief of the Armed Forces.

“If more than three years into your administration, you have been unable to stop these killings, why don’t you seriously consider the option of an honourable renunciation of the presidential seat?

“One of the major factors behind the patent failure of your government is the fact that you are surrounded by men and women who fail to tell you the truth about Nigeria and who shield you from seeing what is happening to the ordinary Nigerians .

“Instead of assisting you in the governance of this country, they insult those whose dissenting opinions you need if you are to succeed.

“How does one explain the fact that under your watch as the Commander – in – Chief, agencies established to maintain law and order, instead of protecting innocent citizens of this country, dissipate their energy running after members of opposing parties? Do you call that democracy?

“No right-thinking person would advocate letting anyone off who has committed a crime. No one is above the law, not even you, Mr. President. That is why the Constitution provides for a process of removing the President.

“That is why the point must also be made that those who contravene the laws of Nigeria be brought to book, irrespective of their political, regional, ethnic or religious affiliation. But the sad reality is: under your watch, that is not what is happening.

“A member of the Miyetti Allah appeared on television, justifying as retaliatory the killings in Plateau State. He was not the first member of the Miyetti Allah to make the statement.

“Nigerians are baffled that he has yet to be arrested. Where were those responsible for our security at a time they were needed most?

“Dear President Buhari, I am compelled to write to you again because, since the bloodshed of the first day of this year, there has been more bloodshed in Zamfara State and in the Middle Belt.

“The latest killings in Plateau State make us wonder: where were you , Mr. President, while innocent lives were being wasted in Plateau State? Where were your service chiefs when babies were being ripped out of their mothers ’ wombs by men who claim to do so because of their cows?

“While all this happened during the national convention of your party , it would be unfair to insinuate that the latest round of killings had anything to do with your party.

“However, it was scandalous that at about the time innocent Nigerians were being slaughtered like cows in Plateau State last weekend, some members of your party were dancing and feasting at your party’s convention in Abuja, while some were throwing chairs at each other, and some others were exchanging blows.

“That , in itself, points to the absence of democracy in your party, as is the case in virtually all the political parties in Nigeria.”

“You described what is going on as a clash between herdsmen and farmers. If the identities of these criminals are not hidden, why has the Nigerian intelligence community , under your watch , failed to prevent them from shedding blood?”

PoliticsFederal Government Fast Descending Into Tyranny – Senator Abaribe by 14Ebiscoo(op): 10:01am On Jun 29, 2018
The lawmaker representing Abia south senatorial district, senator Enyinnaya Harcourt Abaribe, Thursday, alleged that the federal government under the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, was fast descending into tyranny in the country.

Abaribe, who is a chieftain of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said this while on a courtesy visit to the National headquarters of the party at Wuse, Abuja.

Briefing newsmen, Abaribe said, “This ruling government is fast descending into tyranny knowing that it has disappointed the nation.

“I came to thank the National Working Committee, NWC, of my party and particularly the National chairman, Prince Uche Secondus for their great show of support while I was undergoing my ordeal of dirty politics in the hands of the operatives of the Department of State service, DSS.”

It would be recalled that the lawmaker was recently released from the facility of DSS over issues concerning the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, whom he stood as his surety.

Kanu was charged with treason by the federal government. But a few weeks to the next adjourned date, a troop of soldiers on a special security assignment in the south east raided the secessionist leader’s country home in Abia State.

Consequently, the whereabouts of Kanu has remained unknown. But the federal government held it on Abaribe to produce the suspect.

When grilled on why he was arrested, Abaribe said he was rather accused of sponsoring terrorism.

In his words, “Everybody knew I only signed a bail bond. But I was accused of sponsoring terrorism. It means Nigerians should be ready and careful because a every little thing you do, they will incriminate you. They will find something to hang on your head.”

When asked whether or not he trusts the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the 2019 general elections, he said, “INEC is on the brink of history, what it will do or not will be a defining moment for the nation.

“I will urge the voters to get their permanent voters Card to vote out the APC come 2019.”

Abaribe, however, recalled that he was treated courteously because some patriotic DSS operatives knew what was happening.
