Is it not the prerogative of the foreign countries on where they want to open their offices? Why must you people look to blame yorubas again?

The op did not blame the Yoruba. He made a valid observation. Some1 along the line called the east den of kidnappers and all what not, and it was obvious he is Yoruba.

Of all Nigerians, Yorubas and Igbos cohabit peacefully. Why we see these misdemeanors on line is mind boggling.

Again, Nobody is blaming Yoruba.

The question is why is does an ethnic group from the ethnic tripod in Nigeria not have an embassy/liaison office while the rest 2 have 2 each, if tables are turned, will you accept that in SW. And go check figures majority of south easterners travel to Britain, even far more than northerners for instance

Majority of migrating south easterners travel to the US, unless you are telling us they are now travelling to Britain.

The foreign countries have to be advised by the chief diplomat of Nigeria his excellence GEJ, the honourable foreign minister, southeast region governing body and Enugu State gov.

Then based on the advise they can reach a decison with their various Heads of State or Parliament on how and when to build such a Consular office in Enugu. Every country on earth ought to have an office in Enugu.

People from the east should not have to travel to other region for consultation before going abroad. This is wrong and criminal. There should be a level playing field. Even key federal agency ought to have offices in the east (Enugu) to aid their operations within the region as relevant.

Once Consular offices are opened in the East, Lagos will suffer as usual and yorubas will gang up against the offices again. grin grin grin grin grin

Usual explanation!!!!

For the unaware thought it best to let them know u are yoruba, so they don't mistake u for an easterner starting tribal war.

lemme break it down for you.

Min of Foreign affairs do not have any control over any Consular Office. Also remember that most of this useless countries do daily security analysis and profile the country on risk basis. The reports of their security agents takes more pre-eminence over any justification of the residing ambassador in Nigeria. The Military attache and the agents therefore have a lot of role to play than the ambassador or high commissioner.

also, most countries do not see us North West and East as we do. What they usually see is North and South. they always think once they have an office in Abuja and the other in Lagos, they are ok.

there is no crime in trying to get consular offices opened in the east, it will generally decongest the presure on Lagos offices.

Like I said their security report carries major weight in whatever they do. Just visit most embassies site and check for security risk, North is usually flagged Red, as well as SE. this fundamental issue needs to be tackled collectively before they can be prevailed on '' to kindly do the needful''.

The only question i have has to do with enugu's location, which is the northern part of the southeast.

I assume enugu is considered a more cosmopolitan part of the region, else the calls should have been for extra consular offices to be more centrally placed.

However, since enugu has the airport, i guess enugu it is.

Ideally onitsha is central but Enugu has the airport and it is more of a centre for administration.

All that is needed is solid and regular railway network to connect all states within the region to enugu within an hour or two at most.

I hope they do in the east, becos u will be surprised dey might not. I agree, Onitsha has been abandoned for a long time and needs alot of work. Enugu is working, though still a work in progress, but a better host.

How can you say Onitsha is ideally central.....? undecided

Awka or Owerri should take consideration if it should be based on accessibility and centrality....but Enugu is far more preferred.

they do. it is the policy of FGN to have Federal Secretariat in all the states capitals. Some states encourage them by providing infrastructures for the agencies pending the time FGN will construct a complex for them in that particular state.

I stand to be corrected, not in the know on that but as u say where they do not operate, states can encourage them by providing temporary infrastructure.

My bad, Owerri would be ideal just took into consideration asaba, forgot they are southsouth. Nevertheless, Enugu is the administrative capital of the east and appropriate for the consular as u admit. wink

chima12: Enugu state govt has a role to play in bringing consular/visa offices to Enugu.we also have distinguished Igbo sons and daughters who have made a mark for themselves internationally, this is where they can come in silently and help bring some of these consular/visa offices to enugu.those who have access to such prominent Igbo sons and daughters need to talk to them about it so they can key in.enugu state govt should provide some prime estate for office and residential accommodation in other to lure some of the nations especially u.s.a,germany and some of the asia nations like china, japan and korea into opening visa/consular offices in enugu.

I agree with you, Enugu should establish a diplomatic zone within Independence Layout, and provide adequate special security, then take the opportunity to write, send emissaries and invite various Ambassadors to establish their presence. Also, a general consular building, furnished could be put up, and offered as accommodation to the embassies, it will ease their logistics consideration in establishing their presence. The ones with high volume of activities such as China, will subsequently see the need to put up their own buildings. Peter Obi can also do this in Awka. Rochas in Owerri.

Their various efforts or combined efforts will yield the varied fruits. Let's note that it is not by force, but rather by diplomacy and the politics of influence. Chief Emeka Anyaku has a major role to play with regards to Britain. Let's call and talk to the right people with the power in these countries and it will sail as smooth as butter.

In the case of sudden disintegration of Nigeria, Ndigbo must not hope to lookup to USA or Britain as allies. When Susan Rice was undersecretary of state department, a goup of Igbo organization visited her office and demanded USA's consulate to be opened in southeastern region of Nigeria. All the group got from the state department were promises yet no consulate was ever opened.

I am not surprised that Britain has two offices in southwestern and northern region respectively. After all, Britain joined Nigeria in prosecuting a war on Biafra while USA stood akimbo.

Of course Israel will have 2 consular offices and the Holy See (Vatican), just like france. Equatorial Guinea and Ivory Coast will definitely follow suite.
Lol. If your allies are not even opening their consular offices in alaigbo, how do you expect non-allies to do so.

Emperor_00S: It doesn't matter who the minister is, Eastern governors should work with FG / the minister ( who ever ) and lobby for visa liaison offices to be set-up in Enugu.

This would make the Enugu International Airpot to be highly viable.

.

^^^At bolded: you mean like eastern governors and elite lobbied Obasanjo for 8 years to upgrade Enugu airport to int'l status, yet fuc/kall happened until the coming of Yar'Adua/GEJ?......you mean like they also lobbied for a 2nd Niger bridge and a working river port at Onitsha?
