Every upcoming artiste’s dream is to have that one hit. That career defining song that launches
him into the limelight and causes all the A&Rs to come running. So I found an article on CDbaby
and this short article is inspired by what I read.
Hope you learn something.
1. Don’t be married to your first single
Release and promote a series of individual songs. And: If it’s not a hit, switch. Don’t keep pushing
a song that’s not getting any traction on its own. Keep releasing new songs until one catches on.
2. Be different
Don’t try to sound like someone else. Be yourself. Create something memorable, and don’t be
scared of embracing your uniqueness.
3. Have fun and lots of it
Do you remember the first time you heard “Azonto?” Probably put a smile on your face, because
there’s humor in the lyrics and production. And we love to share funny things online.
4. Get anthemic
A hit song is a symbol that captures the ACTUAL cultural phenomenon of the present time. What
current cultural phenomenon is missing an anthem? Write it!
5. Have visuals, It will travel
Good lyrics are visually evocative, thus providing the perfect setup for an accompanying music
video — which can be viewed on YouTube. So the lesson here is simple: make great videos
