The Federal Executive Council (FEC)
has appro-ved the award of contract
for the supply of fresh 70, 000
customised and configured smart
card readers for the Independent
National Electoral Commission
(INEC).
The Minister of Information, Labaran
Maku, said this in Abuja yesterday
while addressing State House
correspondents after the FEC
meeting. The FEC had on July 2 this
year approved N459 million for
INEC’s smart card readers to be used
for the verification of voters card by
prospective voters during 2015
general elections.
Then, the contractor, Messrs Zinox
Techno-logies Limited, got the nod of
the government to procure 17,000
smart card readers at the rate of
N27,000 per one with a completion
period of six months
Maku said yesterday that in order to
ensure free, fair and credible
elections, 160,000 smart card readers
would be acquired to authenticate the
permanent voters card at the polling
units during the 2015 general
elections.
