Amaechi Has Saved Nigeria From Ethnic Jingoists — CNPP by Ddaji(m): 8:19am On Dec 01, 2013 |
Written by Muideen Olaniyi Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) yesterday said that the defection of Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has saved Nigeria from further division by ethnic-jingoists. The CNPP, in a statement through its National Publicity Secretary, Osita Okechukwu, hailed Amaechi and saluted the G-5 governors for finally deleting dictatorial one- party system from Nigeria’s political lexicon, by decamping from the PDP to the APC. The umbrella body of all registered political parties noted that the action of the G-5 governors was the stimulation of the much-needed balance of power in the country’s political firmament. “It is a master-stroke because today, power is balanced in Nigeria with two dominant political parties, one conservative, one progressive, equal in strength, equal in spread in all the wards, local government areas, states and National Assembly, which provides the electorate the alternative to choose from. “The G-5 has catapulted Nigeria into the zenith of liberal democracy, where autocracy, dictatorship and arrogance are reduced to the barest minimum and where compromise reigns and no party actually rules,” it stated. The CNPP singled out Amaechi “for his role in re- positioning Nigerian democracy and indeed saving our fledgling democracy from the hands of ethnic-jingoists.” The CNPP observed that “without the Rivers governor joining the APC progressives’ train with other G-5 governors, the ethnic-jingoists could have gone to town to further divide Nigeria.:source sunday trust |
