Mayor_of_Lagos:

A greater nuisance awaits the society if you close ashewo joints all over the state. You cannot close one and leave others open..

What you need is government providing awareness to the prostitutes and their patrons that creating traffic congestion is intolerable and can carry fines, not shutting them down.

Some men no longer sleep with their wives of 30yr marriage and need it elsewhere and dont want the emotional entanglement of a second marriage so this is their outlet.

If you take it away you wont stop their urges, youwill spur their creativity to get it some other way. They will start covetting other mens wives and gravitate towards things which before their conscience would have never allowed.

When a man is under the spell he must get that puzzey and please if he gets it from ashewo then let him continue to do so or he will become an uncontrollable monster and start r-a-p-i-n-g innocent women and young girls.

Do you not know these things?
but there are many cases of rape already! If only men can control their urge, all these crimes will be averted.

Mynd_44: And what if they say they ae just hanging around waiting for buses?
There is this Tantalizers I know in ekiti, every night around 9, girls walk in, order a bottle of water and sit at the back while looking out for customers. How do you intend to chase them out?
There is freedom of movement there and except you have evidence of solicitation, you dont have a point

I am sure the OP was referring to Obalende for the fact that it is a rather busy commercial area and this happens en plein jour.

That's quite different from a club girl looking for a john in a cafe. There is no law against that as it is not a public place. It is up to tha management of such cafes to deal with their nuisance customers not government.

Mayor_of_Lagos: Where are these mods when you need them?

Moderators, please put a close stamp on this darn thread. These are communists, enemy of the state here. Next they will start advocating that men should be castrated.

Shut this thing down now! Im out of here
If it will stop men from patronizing prostitutes, I agree totally to castration. grin grin

I sometimes wonder how much those call girls make in a night/week that would make them risk and dehumanize themselves like that. I'm sorry there is no amount of money in this world that would justify that kind of life style. But hey who am I to judge.

Poverty of course! What will make a woman go into prostitution if not poverty? But when you compare armed robbery to prostitution, the latter is still fair.

High rate of marriage doesnt necessarily mean a good thing because it forces people who are not ready either emotionally or financially into it
If at 21 because of libido you were made to marry then, WHat do you think would be left of the marriage now? Or what of the kids produced in that union?
Tell us how early marriage is making the Northern part of Nigeria better
The law isnt based on religious belief of anyone, Theres a reason why several countries have legalised prostitution even countries who brought these western religion to us in Nigeria
There is a dirty little secret about the johns that patronize ashawos. Namely that over time they spend much more on entertaining harlots than their married counterparts of the same age and occupation spend on their wives. There are some johns that immediately they earn some good cash from a job or contract that they disappear into brothels and don't emerge until they are flat broke again.
It's not just the service fee they pay but also the alcohol, the Indian hemp, tobacco and food. Its a false economy really.
As for the north they have an Islamic system they are operating under which makes society function very differently compared to the southern and central parts of Nigeria.
Many of the vices present in the northern part are really consequences of Islamic society as opposed to the specific fact that the they get married earlier.

Its not the religion its the immaturity that comes with marrying early

How many 20yr old boys can handle a marriage. In the North thats why they always have a huge number of divorcees which the govt marry out en masse or even give incentives to ppl to come marry them

Well you should know that such a street girl can do just about anything to make money. They are quite tough and ruthless in the way they go about their business.
However all is not what it seems. Most often there is a boyfriend/pimpp somewhere in the background pulling the strings.

Dayokanu truly I get your point and there is no easy answer to dealing with the hormonal urges of unmarried young men and bachelor boys. But it is not the role of the State to cater for the libido of such guys by turning a blind eye to harlotry.
But I surmise if the government were to crack down hard on prostitution over time the rate of marriage would increase which has got to be a good thing for society.
The rate of marriage won't increase cuz there is no employment.....and if something is going to increase is simply RAPE come on! What's you guys problem with prostitution?? Do you know the amount of revenues porn generate to America? This is a long time profeSsion which the government can't curb! It is really helping in controlling molestation! Job creation! What have they done! Have they violated the fundamental human right? See leave ashawo alone.....no one is saint......ashawo should have been legalized in nigeria a long time.....virtually 90% of male have urge for sex......60% are getting sex,30% are shy.......tell me those shy also have the right to better things of life,as the way government could provide for the physically challenged people!!!.......and don't tell me a 21yr old to marry cuz of his libido......will he put libido to the table to feed children? If 21yr kid are all married and there is a greater problem for the situation of this country......cuz a 21yr old kid will go for notn less than 18 below which may lead to paedophile.....don't you know some wifes can't satisfy their husband libido? Come on what you should gospel about is use of safe sex with protection! See this is a certified profession!

In some countries when prostitute union go on strike women stay off the streets for good sense. And here we have you guys proposing a shut down of puzzey market because it creates traffic bottleneck. Why cant the drivers of these vehicles take a detour? bypass obalende rd, go through side streets, go through st gregorys and come out on other side at keffi.
Re: Governor Fashola Should Get Rid Of Obalende Prostitutes. by scribble: 9:28am On Dec 05, 2013
women are the source of all their problems. its laughable and pitiable. even with #500 ashewo, men are still raping their daughters, gangbanging runs girls and killing them (out of animosity), raping infants and even raping goats as reported in Kenya yesterday.

Yet women want to take away more sexual release from men, some men who do not have access to twitter, facebook, badoo, unilag, covenant runs girls or promiscuous girls etc

What do you think will be the end result? More cythia osokogwu's etc...more rape, more violent crimes against women....

they think marriage is the solution....do you know how many men cheat...some in front of their wives...some men are not even mentally ready or capable of being good husbands like the banker soon to be sentenced to death for killing his wife by a Lagos court.

A 21 year old boy is at the entry point height of his libido, if he doesnt have 10k or 20k to give unilag new hall babes, pls leave #500 obalende ashewo for him...in the interest of women folk everywhere...

stop thinking you cannot be a victim of being thrown out of a moving vehicle unclad....it happens to the best of them

Well it is not just the jobless men that are patronizing the ashawos. Employees and self-employed do so also. Not to talk of Armed Robbers, Yahoozee boys and Petty criminals.
As for talking about sex crimes. You should know that forced sex is quite different from consensual sex and those that engage in violation are not doing so out of sexual frustration. These molesters do what they do because they are inherently evil, wicked, selfish without human empathy. That is why they need to be caged.
One reason for the explosion of commercial sex in Nigeria is because there is a culture of promiscuity and prostitution. This needs to be tackled as it has a lot of harmful effects on society not least the spread of STDs and the lack of societal respect for women even those that are not harlots.

There are prostitute joints in hausaland. They have quarters on the outskirts of town. Its a redlight district when you pull in there is only one chat and it better not be about sharia. Thats why its been easy for boko to target and kill many people in one joint spot because its zoned.

Agent007,

Seriously, i want you and arcbaby to support the government efforts to fight crime, serious crime. Propose ways to manage the traffic problem but dont shut that market down. Beside, it might surprise you to know some of those women do that business to support and finance their children education. Have you thought about that angle?

You can't get away with that post Dayokanu.

The traditional society in the northern part of Nigeria is such that post-puberty girls are supposed to be in seclusion or purdah in their father or husband's house. As such they are not really trained to be economically independent.

The dads who don't have plans send their daughters out to College or to learn a trade then deems it economically prudent to marry these girls off as quickly as possible.

Thus early marriage in the north has everything to do with the Islamic Purdah system in which these girls are raised.

That is far fetched, but for others with a passthrough for much distant destination, it will be a nice alternative pending when the govt get a more effective proposal from you and Julianbond

Do they have to engage in prostitution to support their families, what about other women that work hard just to support their families. You see women cleaning the streets of lagos, selling petty things and some selling pure water just to earn a living. Can't this prostitutes engage in other trade other than prostitution? I see no reason why some men will be in support of prostitution when they can't stand to see their sister, wife or daughter engage in such act. The men are patronising them that is why they don't want to leave the trade. If you can't watch your sister, wife or daughter prostitute, why will you support other people relatives to prostitute or even patronise them?

Yes I know they do prostitution to support their finance and children's education for those of them with kids. But what am asking is prostitution the last resort in seeking for greener pastures? If it is,then there will be no need women going into other means of livelihood. Every woman should become prostitutes because they wanna make money. If the government can support these women with other means of livelihood. Prostitution will be reduced drastically.

That's because these girls want the easy money as well as to enjoy the party lifestyle that comes with being a hustler. These girls are quite daring as well, to be honest, and are ready to do just about anything to make a fast buck.
The only care the Government should give them is to deport them back to their states of origin.

you think there are no risks involved being a prostitute/hustler? Just as there are risks in other business,so is prostitution.
I have said it before that deporting them back to their states of origin is not the solution. they will still find their way back into their former lifestyle. The government has a big role to play to make sure they don't return back as prostitutes by engaging them in something meaningful.
What is the function of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development anyway?
