This one is a standalone movie that has been digitally remastered and is centered in the same world as the original Manga. In contrast to the stylized action in the 2013 version, this one aims to adopt a more grim and violent tone. How its plot will compare to or relate to earlier versions is currently unknown.

As for INSIDIOUS: THE RED DOOR, after the last installment, they should have just hung the boot. This one was totally unnecessary IMO. The movie was a quick cash grab that wanted to ride on the success of it's predecessors. The concept of astral travel has been over flogged throughout the franchise, irrespective of the fact that it's the corner stone of the franchise.

The red demon was very uneventful, it was basically a joke. The plothoes the movie had was something else.

Honestly the horror genre of late is nothing to write home about. Now, you watch horror movies and doze off.

On the contrary, I think the horror genre is having a rejuvenation and getting better storytelling and themes compared to the ones we've been fet for the past few decades.

Recent flicks like Nope, Barbarian, _X_, The Black Phone, Evil Dead Rise, US, etc. are quite good to great.

I was glad I skipped the Insidious: The Red Door movie .... I actually was downloading the film before Xavier5 review. I started the download but something in my mind wasn't comfortable with it and I quickly paused the download. I went to rewatch the trailer and found out there was nothing really sensible drawing me to get back into the franchise and saw that it doesn't seem like they had a reasonable story to tell... The poor reviews didn't help sef. So I just postponed it.
