Elle (2016).

Powerful.... Provocative.... Perverted.

A psychological thriller that blurs the lines between ràpe and consent.

Michellè is violently sexually assaulted in her own home, and instead of calling the police, she took a bath and set to do things her own way. This set the tone for an unpredictable, twisted, depraved psychosexual thriller game of cat and mouse that takes the subject matter head on, in a controversial but yet unique way that keeps one seated at the edge of the seat for the entire 2hrs plus run.

Isabelle Huppert performance as Michellè/Ellè is a stellar portrayal of sexual assault victim that is grounded in total reality, her character is not written as a "saint", but rather a multi faceted personality whose moral depravity arc is not stripped away, as she might be down for a ménage à trois, which might want to infer on the audience that she deserves no sympathy but her softer humane/ emotional side is also layered in to paint a fimer picture that perhaps, she does not deserve to be assaulted, and frankly speaking nobody does. She is already a legend in French Cinema but that Oscar best actress nod in 2017, was all more deserving only bettered by Emma Stone's La La Land Stint!.

PS: The film shows in graphic details sèxual assault of a very violent and disturbing nature, and could be a trigger if you can't stomach such picture, so please be warned.

Top shelf film!

8/10.

Idiots, very useless and over-ambitious puppy. He just kept up messing everything for the father.

Movies I watched this week -

Nymphomaniac - 7/10 - I was curious about watching NC-17 and X rated movies that are artforms but not porn and this movies stands out above every thing else. Better than Showgirls in my opinion. It is about a nymphomaniac and her sexcapades. Apart from all the many sex scenes where we could see her sucking stuff without blurring anything. It is just like porm but with a story. Mia Goth, Uma Thurman and the Dune guy is even in this movie. Nuts!

The character in question has a female counterpart in the comic book series who appears frequently and that's the one they want to portray.

I knew about this before posting.
This is just another potential flop. Replacing well known male characters with lesser known female versions hasn't really worked well for Marvel.

I used to shared similar views, but I've since realized that there's much more to it. Those movies you're referring to had more profound issues. Although I continue to endorse the belief that Marvel and Disney (especially Disney) produced their best work when they didn't consciously focus on promoting diversity as their main objective, but instead, seamlessly incorporated diverse characters into their stories.

Going by this stats it may seem WB is losing out in the summer box office competition. It's between Disney and Universal.

Well said
Disney and Marvel dominated the movie industry for so long. Their dominance began to crumble when they chose political correctness over raw entertainment. Unfortunately, this will continue for a while

I'm not sure WB had any plan to compete in the summer. If March, April, October, and November give them numbers, there's no point suffocating their big movies in a stacked up calendar.

WB don smoke igbó

This movie should remain exclusively for cinemas for three months. A movie that was guaranteed to hit $700m at the box office.

WB don't like money

This is what happens when a CEO prefers short term benefits over long term success.

Still, it doesn't really make sense for a major studio as big as WB to give up on summer theatrical window. It's actually foolish. The months of May, June, July are the most juiciest months of the year to release big event movies competition or not. They're the biggest months in a whole year despite the competition. If Dune 2 was released in a juicy window in summer it would easily rack $1bn or very close to it just like Oppenheimer.
WB is a top 2 big studio so shouldn't be too worried about the competition to chicken out of a whole summer release entirely.

I haven't checked release date for upcoming Mad Max: Furiosa movie, but that should be a summer tentpole.

Very stupid CEO walahi... With his previous rhetorics you'd think top event movies like this are always getting the 3 months exclusive treatment.

Unless they're somehow banking on the movie still continuing to do well. Also not to forget the big competition it's receiving from new movies like Godzilla x Kong and the rest, although DUNE PART TWO continues to get very good holds.

This makes me remember Universal's somewhat weird distribution plan last year where they released their animation movies on VOD very early. Just a month exclusively in theatres, but they still did well at the box office regardless of a early VOD release. They even did same for billion dollar movie Mario. So it's wait and see.
