Princek12: I have observed that the amount of Nigerian women who bleach their skin has reached epidemic proportions. There has to be something that motivates these women to bleach their skin, and one of the alleged motivating reasons I have heard is that Nigerian men prefer "light skinned women." To that end, I feel compelled to clear some misconceptions that may be motivating our women to bleach their skin.who cares |

It's really sad that no matter how much you warn and beg them not to bleach, they will still bleach! Beauty has nothing to do with colour. If you are fine you are fine. If you are not fine you are not fine. People don't seem to understand that being light skinned does not make you prettier. It only makes you more noticeable. For instance If you see Genevieve Nnaji and Monalisa Chinda together, you will notice Monalisa first because of her complexion. But when you look at Genevieve, you will see that she's prettier! That's how it works! smh 6 Likes |

Princek12: Here in Senegal, you would not see any Senegalese men bleaching anywhere, but the women (married, unmarried, old and young) are the only culprits. The married ones' husbands are very comfortable with it and never complain because they see it as a way of being "beautiful. When you ask them (the men) why their women bleach a lot, most that knows Nigerians, would ask why our men bleach. They see it as something disgusting for men to bleach while they see it as something "beautiful" for women to bleach. I'm sure there is no amount of campaign that can stop that act here, it is here to stay forever. I personally see bleaching as disgusting whether it is done by men or women. 4 Likes |

Never really believed the hype about 'Bleaching' being a Nigerian trend until sometime in September this year when I was watching the news on CNN and I heard a bulletin describing the 'hotspots' that the Bleaching cream manufacturers had discovered for their products and 'Nigeria' was the first name out of just 3 names. I mean, even the manufacturers know that their stuff is booming in the Nigerian market. That was a rude shock man. Its a free world anyway, but for everything one would indulge in, there's always a side effect. If you bleach and you know what it entails, good...But spare us the gory details of the repercussion on NL when it happens tho'. |

Dear poster, don't blame the Nigerian women bleaching their skin to become fair or light skinned, blame the Nigerian men on this one. Majority of Nigerian men prefer light skinned ladies. If a lady is a marketer and she is dark skinned, believe me most MDs and top shot men in Nigeria won't even give her a listening ear. But if she is light skinned, and curvaceous or voluptuous, the MD may even shut down the company just to attend to her. How many rich and well to do men in Nigeria who married their wives when they were financially buoyant married a dark skinned lady Very few. Check out all the current male celebrities and their girlfriends and wives, most are all fair or light skinned. Even in music videos, they use light skinned girls or white girls, why Nigerian men are to blame, so talk to your brothers on this one cos the women are just helpless trying to meet up and be like their fellow women being given all the attention.
