Ribadu Wanted For Treason

By Oluokun Ayorinde/Abuja

The woes of the former boss of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu are being compounded by the day following his demolition from Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) along with 139 police officers.

His latest albatross is that he is being wanted by security operatives over what was described as treason.

Sources told P.M.News this morning that Ribadu is allegedly in possession of classified documents that he wants to use against the Federal Government.

It was also gathered that information available to the security agencies indicates that Ribadu is trying to influence Supreme Court judges to rule against President Umaru Yar’Adua over his victory in the April 2007 presidential election which was challenged by Atiku Abubakar of the Action Congress and ANPP’s candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd).

Although the Election Petitions Tribunal upheld Yar’Adua’s victory, the other candidates challenged the ruling at the Supreme Court, and Ribadu is allegedly trying to influence the judges to rule against Yar’Adua.

Sources said Ribadu, who returned last weekend from Sierra Leone with his course mates at National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, where he is undergoing a nine-month capacity building course, was sighted yesterday at NIPSS but was said to have escaped this morning when operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) went there to arrest him.

He was said to have got wind of the impending arrest and escaped hours before the security operatives swooped on him.

Last week SSS operatives also tried to pick him up but he also escaped.

Already, the Federal Government is reported to have given the new EFCC boss, Farida Waziri, the nod to probe the petitions against Ribadu.

The petitions border on how he spent the foreign grants he received during his tenure as EFCC boss.

Also, the dust raised by his demotion from AIG to DCP is yet to settle as there are indications that he may be thrown out of NIPSS.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro is said to be in a dilemma over what to do with Ribadu now that he has been demoted. This is because a police officer of the rank of DCP cannot attend the NIPSS.

According to sources, Okiro said the Police Service Commission did not consider the wider implications of the demotions before making the announcement.

The Police Service Commission had ordered Ribadu, who was given accelerated promotion to Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to revert to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP with effect from 1 October, 2005.

Okiro is said to be consulting with people on what to do with Ribadu.

P.M.News, however, gathered that following his demotion, Ribadu is no longer qualified to attend the course as it is meant for those in the rank of Commissioner and above in the police force.

Ribadu was sent on the course in controversial circumstances last February.

It was gathered that the management of NIPPS are now in dilemma on how to handle the Ribadu situation as such a situation has not been witnessed at the institution before.

This was confirmed by Maryam Amedu, Public Relations Officer, NIPPS. It was gathered that enemies of Ribadu, especially some former governors currently under prosecution for corruption and who are bent on disgracing the former EFCC boss,  may pile pressure on the management of NIPPS to expel Ribadu.

Meanwhile, nobody knows the whereabouts of Ribadu as our attempts to contact him on the recent developments hit a brickwall.

This is a lesson to all Nigerians who attempt at getting rid of corruption, cleaning up the system, making Nigeria a better country, fighting for the cause of the people and doing the right thing in general . . .

you will be tried for Treason! as that is against our national and systematic policy of corruption, dishonesty and depravity. Thank you for your co-operation.

When wind blow, fowl nyash dey open. We have all seen Yar'Adua's nyash now.

Yar'Adua has scored serious own goal with this one. He has legitimised corruption in our beloved country with this single action. The whole country will turn against him based on this alone.

Does he know that if Ribadu runs for President today, he will win hands down?

Let the man speak his mind. Just because you don't agree with him doesn't mean he has to keep his opinion question. What is this forum for then?

@ topic,
We shall see how this plays out. Somebody/people know more than their saying or aren't disclosing information for/against Ribadu. The people are the one losing in this situation. They need to solve this asap *like tomorrow*.

My 2 cents.

I hope this will not again cause a set back in this country. We are still trying to rebuild her image.
Pease tell Mr.President that he is still faced with the issue of credibility.

Well let us watch out for another round of events in the next few months.
Re: Ribadu Wanted For "Treason"! by Orikinla(m): 7:28pm On Aug 07, 2008
The international community will not be surprised if the Nigerian government prosecutes Nuhu Ribadu for treason, because they know that the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) is against the truth.
Anyone who is against the corrupt government is accused of treason.

On Friday, Alhaji UMaru Musa Yar'Adua will go to the mosque for Jumat to bow to God?

Who is fooling whom?

What a joke!
Re: Ribadu Wanted For "Treason"! by lucabrasi(m): 7:34pm On Aug 07, 2008
ribadu might have done some good, but recent revelations have shown that he was as corrupt as the rest of them, while some ppl are calling ribadu the messiah some like the people ribadu unfairly harrassed with efcc like the tejuoso man in order to pave way for iyabo obasanjo will disagree,
the long and short of it is that its a vicious circle,a couple of years down the line when yar adua has left, the people holding sway now like dagash, minister for agric, minister for finance e.t.c will all be hounded by the government in power to take their pound of flesh

Simmer down and grab a cold glass of water.

Advise for RIBADU:
Take it as it is; you can never, will never win a war against the president.
Smart fellows pick and choose their battles; some fight only the big ones and let go the little ones, while others only fight the little ones and let go the big ones, but the majority (the clever ones) let go everything all together and keep their heads above the water.
Ribadu should immediately pull his ears closer and join the clever ones before it's too late.

He should remember MKO, Yar'Adua (older brother), Fela and even OBJ.
You will fall and fall hard; and none of these folks will lose any sleep over the scenario.

This is absolutely not Ribadu's fight; just like the fisherman says "there is no clean fish in the pond".

My man needs toMove on Quick!

they just want to frustrate the man, after demoting him,now its treason, hia! the man was thinking obj will rule forever,he didn't fortify himself well,or does he not know that there are stronger forces fighting to stay, and be heard,he should not have stepped on toes the way he did,let him feel what its like 2 b on the hot seat too

I agree!
The way he operated was mostly unprofessional and absolutely unnecessary. I'm sure that he's now kicking himself in the butt.

When you're asked to place your hands inside fire, it is a standard protocol not to do it or at least do it with style.

Ribadu did not only unmanneredly placed his hands inside, he also jumped inside the fire!
Re: Ribadu Wanted For "Treason"! by olukunle: 8:38pm On Aug 07, 2008
Ribadu was never a saint, or where was he when Obasanjo was siphoning funds thru the power project, or the issue with Iyabo and the Austian guys, or Bode George, or Adedibu , or Odili and the rest? Why are people now showing him sympathy? He had boasted that 31 governors were corrupt and would be made to face the music, yet, most of them returned back for nother term in office, while others are now honourable senators. So, what are we talking about here? Ribadu should just go and bury his head in shame or go to Obasanjo and work for him.

I wonder how people publish nonsense for people to read pls if u dont have fact dont say a word Ribadu cannot be wanted for treason meanwhile Yaradua has just started exhibiting his inability to reason he should trade softly with Ribadu his one of our finest remember UN offerd him a job sycophants and bootlickers should not mislead him.
Re: Ribadu Wanted For "Treason"! by Nobody: 9:14pm On Aug 07, 2008
there is no man that is without sin, what is important is, whatever you are tasked to do, do it with all your ability, and that is what ribadu did, and it was clear to those of us who did not run away from this country that he did the best of his ability, and various people including, some making big mouth here, applauded him, there is nothing like keeping your head above water, in the fight to liberate your country, or liberating it with style, like some people here are insinuating, that,s the reason why we remain were we are today. in the fight against tyranny and corruption a lot of toes will be burnt, and ribadu made sure he did that, and so he bears his cross, just like so many before him have done, e.g abiola, fela. i use this time to say a prayer for him.
Re: Ribadu Wanted For "Treason"! by kliffo(m): 9:16pm On Aug 07, 2008
Am surprised that Nairalanders are being taken in by this sensational story from The News/. Nuhu Ribadu is being turned into a hero and anti corruption Czar by  a lot of Nigerians for his hypocritical fight against corruption. We all know that Ribadu didnt do enough to tame this monster that is responsible for all our woes. Where was he when OBJ and his family cleaned the state out. How clean are the untouchables   of yesteryears;the Fani Kayodes, Andy Ubas, Liyel Imokes and the rest of the OBJ boys? Nuhu does not  have the capacity to influence Supreme court Judges or to rattle the FG.We dont need a Nuhu Ribadu to win this war against corruption,   we  have to start from our selves, then our kin and progress from there to our different  communities. We have to try and get our kids to become patriotic, teach  them civics  and service to father land above self so that their generation can better ours.Come to think of it, we dont even need Yar'dua to do that for us.
