of ladies I know have got shock absorbers
for silent treatments, most ladies can hold on to silence longer than men,
so it might not work,

but never hit a lady to control her
neither should you raise your voice, that ain't cool either,

use reverse psychology,
well her personality (which u should have been conversant with while dating)
should determine your actions. ..
