I saw an advert for employment of academic lecturers in Kaduna polytechnic; but the job is for only holders of Bsc, Msc and PhD Degrees (university graduates). Holders of poly HND not included. Why is it that even the polytechnics themselves do not like employing their own graduates (HND holders) as academic staff? I thought they said polytechnic education was practical inclined and that HND holders are practically better than Bsc holders? So, why the preference for theoretical graduates against practical graduates in a school that is supposed to churn out practical graduates?

Please contribute on this issue to enable me understand why it is like that.

our government do not believe in HND holders, thats the reason. I'm more worried becos the same polytechnic that preach that HND is equivalent to BSc is the same polytechnic that is refusing to employ HND holders to teach in the same polytechnic with BSc holders. i wonder what makes the HND equivalent to BSc if they cannot both be employed to do the same work. Charity begins at home.

Wel,the truth is this,poly graduates are practically incline with basic technical knwledge.It's adviseabl that HND graduates must tk a compulsary post graduate diploma to qualify them 4 any further education.I knw of lecturers who had HND with post graduate diploma.Do likewise and u wil gain prominence whneva the advert s placed.

The same reason why B.sc graduates don't teach in universities until they get their M.sc. HND is not equivalent to B.sc. Hnd graduates that want to get B.sc starts off from 300level in any nigerian university(engineers).
Your can learn practicals in one year but theory will take you many years to master.
HND graduates are Technologists
while
B.sc graduates are engineers
you can do urself a lot of good by serching the meaning of engineerings and technologists

B.sc or B.A holders gain prominence in securing teaching job,especially in the universities.Haven't heard of research fellow or graduate assistant?Infact the requirement 4 the post of assistant lecturer in polytechnic is B.sc or B.A as the case mayb.

HND holders also lecture in the polytechnic, but they lecture only ND levels. It is not perculiar to engineering alone, we have them in all the departments in the polytechnic. Because of the discrimination against HND they are called instructors, while people with Bsc are called lecturers. Those who handle pratical sessions are called Technologists.
