Is This Humiliation Or Something Else In Access Bank Plc? by lammysole: 8:28am On Sep 19, 2008
can someone just tell me what is the meaning of this, a friend of mine gisted me about her place of work, Access bank to be precise, she told me that the level of discrimination there is too glaring and obvious BC and H.N.D, to the extent that the salary packages is widely different, to worsen the case H.N.D's were asked to get down from the escort van for the an E.T to sit down, pls is it that H.N.D's holder are insignificant to this country or wat? is there anybody from that place that's a bsc that can confirm this, this is pure humiliation and intimidation, if hnd will not be recognized then govt should cancel polytechnics now!!!!!!!!! because it's becoming insanity in the market labour.

anyway am very sorry for those who found themselves in this kind of situation, but to be factual and honest do u think everybody can go to university? if yes then tell me the richest man educational qualification, Mr. President, so call Governors, what is their highest qualification? those of you that posted that these guys should go for their degree, do your research and get back to me how many uni graduate pass ACCA, ICAN and other profession exams, I cant blame you because most of you went to senior higher school. anyway if you don't the so call professionals undergo training under the H.N.D's holder, this is purely insanity in America they have high schools, colleges and universities, no one behave the way the so called illed university graduates do here in nigeria.
Re: Is This Humiliation Or Something Else In Access Bank Plc? by cooldudeng(m): 8:34pm On Sep 21, 2008
I think it's simple, Let the HND guys equip themselves with the right certification. Am not in support of those guys that go about discriminating but if am to look back at the number of times i wrote JAMB trying to get into school and how easy it was passing POLY JAMB, i will say the BSc no easy o!. So help stop the discrimination by equipping yourself with the right certification.
Re: Is This Humiliation Or Something Else In Access Bank Plc? by amusanl: 2:18am On Sep 22, 2008
u guys with BSC should stop mocking the HND holders because u are just priviledge to have BSC.Although i am a university graduate with a second class upper division in Accounting,l never 4 once see myself as being superior to HND holders because i know they are victims of "Nigeria factor". i have friends who tried their best possible to have a university education but ended up in the polytechnics after many years of writing University Matriculation Examination(UME).it was not that they were not passing UME,circumstances did not just work in their favour.
Re: Is This Humiliation Or Something Else In Access Bank Plc? by cooldudeng(m): 8:41am On Sep 22, 2008
@ amusal.

You just said it all, UME no easy. Just reconstruction your statement means Entering a university no easy.

@Poster,

It is unfortunate, but that is what happens in today's market. Access bank is not the only place where such discrimination occurs, it happens in all other sectors of the labour market.

I tell you, if you are about to get into a higher instituion, aim for the university, settle for nothing less because, BSC. is what rocks the labour market.
Re: Is This Humiliation Or Something Else In Access Bank Plc? by jaydude(f): 4:17am On Sep 27, 2008
u guys oooo, nobodys doiscriminating any HND holder, but if ure in nigeria, then give ceaser wot belongs 2 ceaser.we r not in US n other countries where tins work smoothly, nobody should call nigerian factor here.u still have a right 2 become wot u want, itl only take patience, i sat at home for about 6 years cos of JAMB, i was determined n just graduated from microbiology with a second class upper degree, if uv got an HND,since u knw d country u are in,then add some professional qualifications n c if anyone will discriminate u.my dad had just an OND,n did professional certifications,n he worked with mobil oil for 25 years, and retired as d marketing manager of mobil marketing, u guys with HND should develop urself some more instead of dis self pity thing and see if u wont b more sought for than some B. Sc. holders, u guyz should learnnnn!

As usual Nigerians are busying bothering about issues that do not matter at all.

The reason polytechnics and Universities exist together is not to produce graduates that would trade insults over whose qualification is superior. Rather they both have different functions in a civilised society ( which I am sorry to say does not include Nigeria). Now an organisation is free to use whatever criteria they deem fit to employ new graduates. They can decide to exclude Diploma holders entirely if they wish BUT on no account should a company employ graduates with different qualifications on the same level and decide to keep a certain status quo while totally disregarding perfomance.

It just shows a lack of vision and managerial acumen in the management staff of that organisation.

The bloody Bsc holders 'feeling vastly superior to Diploma holders' are getting competition from Msc holders and Msc holders from the UK ( that is supposed to be a different class of degree in this big joke that is a country). Would it be a sensible thing to humiliate them in an organisation because they could not shell out £10k to get a foreign degree?

Its just an unfortunate scenario HND holders find themselves in and only they can get themselves out of it. Its either they get more qualifications or swallow the humiliation. Would be HND graduates should stay away from polytechnics until the FG paints over the word polytechnic on the gates of the schools. Some polytechnics like Yaba Tech can compete with those horrible state universities we are struggling to believe are actually allowed to award degrees.

na wa o, trust us to always find something to argue abt,
anyway this is my own two cents, i'm graduating with a b.sc in a couple of weeks and i have come into contact with many polytechnic students and i have met very few dull ones o, i think we should deal with people based on their capabilities alone cos most of these b.,c holders cheated their way thru the university sef!
Re: Is This Humiliation Or Something Else In Access Bank Plc? by zains: 10:39am On Mar 18, 2009
It's so unfortunate that in Nigeria, everything becomes a fashion emblem! Why should B Sc holders be treated differently? This is a fall out of our faulty educational orientation that breeds just job seekers and not job creators.

Have you considered why the Asian Tigers are competing head-to-head with the western and European big-wig nations? It's because they have advanced in technology such that even almighty America defers to them in some very important areas.

Check the technology companies in America and other civilised nations, even their security outfits like CIA and FBI, you'd find a large number of Asians

AND THAT'S BECAUSE THERE ARE MORE MONO- AND POLYTECHNICS THAN UNIVERSITIES EXTENDING THE FRONTIERS OF TECHNOLGY AND APPLYING IT TO MEDICINE, ENGINEERING, EDUCATION, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ETC.

Hope Nigeria wakes up from her slumber one day!

angry shakes head and walks away

Well, the truth is this: graduating from a Polythecnic or University shouldn't be the basis of any sort of discrimination. I work in a financial and to be frank, there's no discrimination here. I think Nigeria and Nigerians at large should de-emphasis on certificates, rather there should be more emphasis on ones capabilities. Believe it or not, I have a colleague that is a graduate of Kadpoly. The guy is good and he's one of the finest assests any organisation will desire to have.
One should always strive to be the best, not minding whether you have a B.sc or HND. What justifies the means is the end. One should ensure that he/she is good in any field/qualification he/she parades with and should be ready either to defend his/her 1st class or pass!

Have fun.
Re: Is This Humiliation Or Something Else In Access Bank Plc? by TRACK: 3:59pm On Mar 27, 2009
The truth is that there seem to be difference when comparing "true" products from poly and uni. Not now NECO is helping many people my time I had to work hard to make required credits at o level and thereafter faced JAMB.At that same time many of my friends who got P7,P8 and even F9 in subject like maths, english, physics were offered admission to study Acc,Bus Adm,Engeering courses. They left me for their various polys. My pple were worried;they wanted me to follow my friends.
In fact, that time prepared me greatly
Even till today, polys offer admission to these class of student.Imagine studying Mech Eng, Mass com without physics or english.
However, the difference may not be there when the guys involve did not work for their certificate.
Re: Is This Humiliation Or Something Else In Access Bank Plc? by AjanleKoko: 11:44pm On Mar 27, 2009
i think the HND issue is actually horse-sh-it.
It's just people like the posters here who work in Access Bank, and, rather than seeking ways to make their bank profitable, prefer to get busy deciding who is Bsc and who is HND.
My advice to HND holders is to find ways to upgrade. There is really no point going to poly any more, as the whole purpose has been defeated, thanks to our great Nigerians who have once again found a way to undermine yet another logical policy, while the government as usual is fast asleep. Oh by the way I'm a Uni grad.
In the UK degree is no more a function of institution, as polytechnics now award degrees even up to Phd level. In Nigeria we have as usual messed up the whole thing, and instead made the poly into a safe haven for call girls and cultists. Not that the unis do not have their own share, only that the cultists and the call girls have more credits at O level.

HND holders should go and get a DEGREE!!! Grin
its as simple as that!, i dont know why people keep ranting, just do it!
Re: Is This Humiliation Or Something Else In Access Bank Plc? by rodeoxav: 11:22am On Sep 17, 2009
This is not to look down on HND holders neither is it to blame them for obtaining such degree but if an HND holder finds out that or feels that the degree is putting them in a tight corner, there is no other option but to bolster it up. The same applies to Bsc holders too. There are institutions or establishment where Msc completely overrides Bsc in terms of benefits and favours. As such, one needs to also get an Msc degree.

What is the cost difference btw the UNIS and POLYS for the same course?
are they there because its cheaper? (just asking a question?)
have they not heard of this discrimination even before they gained admission?
or were they unlucky with UME?

if the polys re cheaper, then i think it makes Economic sense( not sure)
if UME was the case then what happened to determination and resilience (wisening up too, cos wuru wuru dey UME)
then if ignorance was the case; then lipsrsealed cos its the same reason i am not a billionaire if and only if my Dad knew that soccer was the highest paying profession,

its simple, you are a reflection of the decisions you make, think big and you live large, Aim small then you u live little

about the descrimination ehhh,

but y keke NAPEP go jam Hummer? two of them na mate? grin grin grin grin grin grin

There's a lack of clearly identifiable positive distinctions between naija's universities and polys, except for negative stereotypes, e.g. that people end up in polys having failed to secure university admissions. That's pathetic.

Having said that, my experience shows that OND/HND holders somehow believe this steretyping and generally lack confidence.

Finally, I think HND holders will benefit from role models in the society, who are high flyers in their industries.

I don't quite get it, What is the Market Labour?

On a more serious note, That is just the way it is so deal with it and stop complaining!!! Do what it takes to make yourself qualified and prove your worth to employers! There was a notecounter in the bank I used to work who struggled to get his ICAN and today he is a Marketer bringing in some serious deposits, Those who started as notecounters with him and chose to rant and complain about workplace inequality are still bloody notecounters over 10 years after,

there is no humiliation of such in  access bank,   but you could say tere is high expectation from the ETs than the HNDs,  more so, it is a place where everyone respects each's uniqueness,  so that incident had nothin to do with the work environment but everythin to do with the person involved in the act. smiley

Listen to a story of my cousin both of us graduated from IMT Enugu 2002 elect/elect engineering. His first place of work 2004 three days after our service they are eleven (11) engineers that went for the test and practical interview at Surulere, among 11 of them, 10 was BSc both mechanical and electrical. After the written test himself (HND elect/elect) and one BSc mechanical from ESUT passed the test. Two of them was interviewed and later took them to workshop and he dusted the BSc guy, he was train by Germans four months after he told his MD he need second hand cos the work is too much for him alone and the company decided to contact the BSc mechanical engr to assist him (HND). This is a whiteman's company. My cousin was started with 50K/month 2004 and 2006 November he tender his resignation later for Oil and Gas company, Delta state.

When he went for this oil exploration company interview, they are 17 in number among the was a master holder from University of Benin mechanical engineering, they are only 3 HND guys, one civil, one mech & himself elect/elect. Do you know at the end of the interview including the master degree in mechanical engr, he was the only person the company took and that November 2006 he picked up the offer his pa package 2day is about 2.9pa and he travel to Texas USA ones a month. So what are you guys saying or what have you to say with this brief story.

WHILE I DONT SUPPORT DISCRIMINATION, I THINK IF U DON'T LIKE WHAT UR FACING THEN CHANGE IT. DO SOMETHING. ITS ALL UP TO YOU

WHILE MY CLASSMATES IN POLY THEN WENT FOR THEIR HND I DECIDED TO HOLD ON AND SIT FOR JAMB.

THEY SERVED 4 YRS BEFORE ME. TODAY IM REAPING THE BENEFITS OF MY PERSEVERANCE. I CANT IMAGINE ANYONE TELLING ME DUST RIGHT NOW. WHILE MY

THEN CLASSMATES GO ABT COMPLAINING ABT DISCRIMINATION, I THINK THEY SHOULD JUST TAKE TIME TO PLAN HOW THEY CAN "RIGHT- GRADE THEIR PAPERS".

UNTIL THINGS ARE PUT RIGHT PLS SO THE NECESSARY THING OR HUSH!!!

The discrimination between HND and BSC is a large gap.
Re: Is This Humiliation Or Something Else In Access Bank Plc? by ndumart: 12:26pm On Oct 08, 2009
Its really saddening but what cn one do?
Both institutions were set up for different purposes but in Nig everything works the other way round.
It may be too late for those who already have their HNDs to go back for their BSc cos of the age factor. It is however advisable for those who are about entering higher institutions to steer clear of the ploytechnics for their own good.

OND holders should opt for Direct entry instead of going back for their HND.

The discrimination is indeed a shame.

it's really a shame. why spend money on schools you don't appreciate and recognize their products? it's an economic waste as far as i'm concerned. Polytechnics and hND should be abolished on time so that more nigerians will not fall into the trap of discrimination.

IMO, it's angry. I jst hope this discrimination of a thing becomes a forgotten issue.
