[b]IFEANYI MATTHEW CLEARED TO RESUME FLYING EAGLES TRAINING

Midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew will return to training with the Flying Eagles on Tuesday after he suffered a bad cut in his foot against Brazil and missed his team’s last two games.

“I am happy that the doctor has said I could now return to training,” a happy Matthew told AfricanFootball.com

The El Kanemi Warriors star missed the wins over North Korea and Hungary on account of the injury.

However, it is left to be seen who will now replace in the Flying Eagles starting XI particularly as the team are winning again.

He was the provider-in-chief for Taiwo Awoniyi at the African Youth Championship in Senegal and also weighed in with his own goals.

He is essentially an attacking and creative midfielder, while the team now need hard working ball winners in the middle of the park.

I can't wait to see him tearing the defense of the German apart. I hope he plays to instruction, he did that against the Hungarian , I saw him marked one of the wingers close to the corner pole .

[b]In Akpoguma Awoniyi set to face his own

When Nigeria takes on Germany on Thursday in Christchurch it will be a superb clash of high octane football featuring the champions of Europe and Africa and yet there will be at least one defensive battle that may affect the outcome of the game.

Amazingly it will be between two Nigerians though one eats fufu and the other sauerkraut.

You see the German Captain Kevin Akpoguma is of Nigerian ancestry and will be mainly responsible for marking Taiwo Awoniyi the Nigerian danger man who single handedly flattened Hungary in their last encounter.

It will also be a battle of giants as Akpoguma is 1.92 m and Awoniyi 1.80m setting the table for a delicious aerial duel.

Akpoguma (above) who plays for Hoffenheim and has been compared to Bayern’s Boateng has played for Germany at U16, U17, U18 and U19 levels before now, knows that cancelling out Awoniyi will go a long way in preventing the Flying Eagles from advancing.

Meanwhile Awoniyi (below) who once used to be beaten by his Dad for playing football, has come a long way since then. In Senegal at the African Youth Championships he was superb helping lead Nigeria to another African Crown and in turn has been compared to the late great Yekini.

Though he started slowly in New Zealand he has become accustomed to the colder weather and his pace and productivity has increased in each game minute by minute.

There is no doubt regardless of the outcome of the game, that the NFF will be paying particular interest to Akpoguma hoping that he may decide on shoring up the Super Eagles defense alongside the half German Balogun who picked Nigeria over Germany.

So it may very well be that Akpoguma and Awoniyi will be seeing each other again but this time on the same side.

Germany and Nigeria have met twice at the U20 level with both teams winning one game and Nigeria holding the slight edge in goals scored having scored four times as opposed to three from Germany.

if this Akpoguma is a defender like the report suggests why then is he wearing 9?

Got this to say after d SF match. Nigeria national teams need to be more technical most especially d SE N SF. When t comes to world stage football, Our coaches must work on SETPIECES(taking n defending) cos setpieces wins matches. No solution is provided yet for D same prob dat affected d SE @BRAZIL-I can't even remember when last d SE scored from a deadball. That is y We need deadball specialist in our teams i mean ppl like Jay Jay, Pirlo, Messi etc. Though our Super Flying Eagles are good at dead balls(MOHAMED especially) defending dem too is as important as taking t. Wishing all Our teams d best. Weldone ladies!

Bro, I've said it in one of my posts that as a footballing nation, we are way too far behind technically. We only use our physical strength and pace which mostly counts to nothing at the end.

Our footballers need to go extra mile. Our coaches need to go extra mile, our league needs to seriously step up technically as it is the foundation for our products. Same with our academies too.

To imagine we don't have a set piece taker after Jay jay, it is alarming

I hope Manu Garba keeps up with his hard work. It's not been easy getting a team of this quality

Lol. Some people feeling themselves here. Because you think the team cannot lose a game doesn't make you a better fan. Even teams like Barcelona loses games and our boys have lost one in this tourney already. As fans, we are all allowed our opinions. So, get off your high horses!
At the end of the day, the only thing that should matter is that we all want the progress of the team...
oga u re a shaky plastic fan joor, u re always fidgeting about the teams chances, the boys are good to go to any length, unlike u we have total faith in our boys

Thanks 4 telling him this harsh truth. I cant believe he said it's 'smarter' to dodge an opponent if u can and dat hungary were casual in dat game. Wow! What a 'true fan' he is. Encouraging Cowardice and calling it smartness... Na wa o!
Sir ajf, if u wanna hit it really big in life, neva run away 4m a challenge no mata how intimidating it may look. U wanna knw why names like Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, John Rockefeller, Ben Carson, Mahatma Gandhi, Lionel Messi, Zinedine Zidane, Samuel Eto'o fils, Kanu Nwankwo, Bill Gates, Lawrence Ellison, Mark Zuckerberg, Ben Bernanke, Dora Akunyili, Warren Buffet, Mozart, Beethoven, Leonardo da vinci, Michel angelo etc, etc reign supreme and are popular globally? It's because they were not cowards.
