Fred had a crush on a girl Adaeze for a very long time and after a long while he eventually spoke to her and what had been a crush evolved into a sizzling love affair and then came Phillip. Phillip was the only child of his Father, he was handsome, had influence and had all the money to spare. He swung in and wooed Adaeze luring her with all his material acquisition and in a blink of an eye all that love that Fred enjoyed from Adaeze became a thing of the past. Fred was filled with envy, hate and was bitter.


One Friday morning Fred was taking his early morning jog around the block and Phillips car had broken down some where close and he was stranded, in his attempt to hail a cab he saw a young man racing towards him and some other men were chasing after him and there was so much noise he couldn't make out what the were shouting. The young man who was racing towards Phillip happened to be a thief, on getting close to Phillip he emptied the wallet which he had stolen and threw the empty wallet on him, as he bent down to pick the empty wallet the angry mob caught up with him and started to beat him up. Before he could even realize what was happening they had brought out a tyre, some fuel and matches in attempt to set Phillip ablaze and that was when he saw Fred taking a jog and he called out "Fred! Fred! Fred! Please come tell these men that I am not a thief". Fred heard it and drew closer on getting there he realized it was Phillip who had stolen the love of his life and the mob turned to him "do you know this man?! He says he knows you. Is he a thief? Talk or else we would burn him" and Fred said "no I don't know him, he is a thief". As Phillip heard that he began to beg and plead with tears running down his eyes and before long they lit the tyre and set Phillip ablaze and he was burnt alive. Fred stood afar off and watched as Phillip suffered in pains, with the smoke coursing across his face and the heat warming his skin, his eyes caught Phillips eyes as he drew his last breath.


Adaeze till today doesn't know the actual cause of Phillips death but she never got back with Fred and Fred has been unable to forgive himself ever since.
