THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT - 1
TEXT: GALATIANS 5:22-23

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith." (Galatians 5:22).

The Amplified version of the Bible puts it lucidly that the fruit of the Spirit consists of the character traits of those who have the Holy Spirit in them. It defines Love as "unselfish concern for others," which is at variance with lust. What sinner youths exhibit in place of love is lust. Joy which streams from one's relationship with the Prince of Peace and a deep assurance that Jesus is always in control of every situation - even the storms of life. Longsuffering is another word for Patience - not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting; forbearance. Gentleness is described as the quality of being kind, tender, or mild-mannered, friendly, generous, and considerate. Goodness is the quality of being good, while Faith is the complete trust or confidence in God expected of all God's children.

Do you possess all these attributes? If you don't, you have to go back to Calvary and ask Jesus to fill you with them. The fruit of the Spirit is the hallmark of saints.

Chɑllenge: "Access yourself in the light of today's Bible text."

Prɑyer: "Lord, help me to bear the fruit of the spirit."

Quote: "The fruit of the spirit is the hallmark saints."

THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT - 2
TEXT: GALATIANS 5:22-23

"Gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law." (Galatians 5:23).

Today's teaching is a continuation of yesterday's teaching on the fruit of the Spirit. Without the fruit your Christianity is doubtful. So pay attention as we move on. Gentleness is generally described as the attribute of being kind, or mild-mannered. Gentleness is a character that has become very scarce in the present generation. Society tells us to be assertive. Some people would tell you clearly that if you are gentle, others would take advantage of you, cheat and trample upon you. The world system teaches people to be brutal and unkind. However, it is expected of every genuine Christian to be gentle.

Self-Control: as the word implies, is the ability to control one's emotions, appetite and desires. The Christian youth who does not have self-control would never be able to live a consistent Christian life. This quality is always needed to resist temptations and maintain a holy walk with God. Agents of Satan or even your flesh could make sinful demand of you. Self-control would enable you to say, "No!" to sinful suggestions.

Chɑllenge: "Learn to say "No" to sinful suggestions."

Prɑyer: "Lord, make me kind and mild-mannered."

Quote: "Without the fruit your Christianity is doubtful."

THE FALL OF DAGON
TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 5:3

"And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again." (1 Samuel 5:3).

John Calvin says, "Man's mind is like a store of idolatry and superstition; so much so that if a man believes his own mind it is certain that he will forsake God and forge some idol in his own brain." He explains here the folly of the people of Ashdod who raised an idol called Dagon. Believers should not be afraid of idols for our God is greater than any idol just as our passage shows that idol is powerless.

Dagon was the idol of the people of Ashdod. God's power struck it down before the ark of the Lord; it could not lift itself up. The worshipers helped it up. God struck it down the second time with devastation as it was dismembered. Friend, just as God dealt with Dagon, so will He deal with anything opposing His will for your life. Make sure you are born again and walking in the light of the gospel and God will fight for you. Remember, those who serve God in truth and in spirit are the apples of His eyes.

Chɑllenge: "There is no life in idols."

Prɑyer: "Help me Lord, to avoid idolatry."

Quote: "God is greater than any idol."

PATIENCE OF JOB
TEXT: ROMANS 8:24-30

"Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy." (James 5:11).

Robert Schuller made a profound and timely statement when he admonished, "Never cut a tree down in the winter time. Never make a negative decision in the low time. Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass." Many youths rush to take many odd decisions which they later regret. Job was patient with God and the people around him during his trials. Be patient when your unbelieving parents, friends, teachers, and others persecute you. Thomas Edison was reported to have faced academic challenges as a child but with the help of his lovely and understanding mother, he pulled through and became the famous inventor of the electric bulb. What challenges are confronting you? With patience and faith in the power of the Almighty God, you can overcome.

Are you sick like Job? Lay claim to the healing promises in the scriptures. Do you face academic problems? Are you confronted with poverty in your family? Work diligently and pray in faith and you can record an amazing feat. With our God, all things are possible.

Chɑllenge: "Be patience."

Prɑyer: "Lord, grant me grace to wait on you."

Quote: "With our God, all things are possible."

COMMANDMENT WITH A PROMISE
TEXT: EPHESIANS 6:2

"Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise." (Ephesians 6:2).

Billy Graham, a late preacher of the gospel, noted the place of mothers and by extension fathers too when he postulated that, "The influence of a mother upon the lives of her children cannot be measured. They know and absorb her example and attitudes when it comes to questions of honesty, temperance, kindness, and industry." Parents are given to us by God to mould and mentor us while they provide our needs. God expects us as youths to honour them in return. Globally, many youths have failed to keep the commandment, "Honour thy father and thy mother." Another expression for honour is "high respect." God expects you not only to respect your parents but "highly" respect them.

The current trend of disrespect for parents is ungodly and should not be part of the character of a Christian youth irrespective of the society where you are being raised. It is in your interest to respect your parents because if you do, God promises that it will be well with you and you would live long. Friend, honour your parents!

Chɑllenge: "Hold your parents in high esteem."

Prɑyer: "Lord, rid me of disrespect and stubbornness."

Quote: "Friend, honour your parents."

SIBLINGS RIVALRY
TEXT: GENESIS 37:5

"And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more." (Genesis 37:5).

Sibling rivalry is as old as the first family of Adam and Eve. Cain murdered his brother, Abel, out of envy because God approved of his offerings. Sibling rivalry is often fatal and must be avoided by Christian youths. Rivalry is a nature of sinners and should not be among believers. Our passage is a classic case of a family where children exhibited jealousy, rather than love among one another. Joseph's older brothers envied him because of the dreams God showed him. By their interpretation, Joseph would rule over them and they didn't like that.

Consequently, they plotted against the boy, maltreated and threw him into a pit to die. Later they brought him out and sold him off into slavery. Rivalry among siblings may stem from giving better privileges to some than others. Don't envy any of your siblings or anyone because you are unique as a child in your family and God's family. God's plans for you are great. Hold unto Him and they will come through.

Chɑllenge: "Say No to rivalry and envy."

Prɑyer: "Give me a heart of love for my siblings, Oh God!"

Quote: "God's plans for you are great."

A PEACE MAKER
TEXT: MATTHEW 5:9

"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." (Matthew 5:9).

Since the establishment of the United Nations in 1945, the world has been searching for peace. Several other organizations have also been set up in the pursuit of global peace. However, Peace has remained elusive in the world. Jesus told us that offences will surely come. As a Christian, you make room for peace at all times since conflicts are bound to occur. Ronald Reagan opined that "Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the ability to handle conflict by peaceful means." Be a peace maker wherever you are.

Our text today is more relevant to the youth than any other segment of the population of our nation. This is because not only does the future belong to them, but they are often associated with violence, like: fighting, riots and mob-actions. When you are born-again, you receive the Spirit of God. Jesus comes to dwell in you. When the Prince of Peace is in you, you must be a peacemaker. "Blessed," Jesus affirms, "are the peacemakers." Making peace among fellow human beings, as well as between sinners and God, should be your pre-occupation.

Chɑllenge: "Avoid violence."

Prɑyer: "Lord, give me grace to always make peace."

Quote: "Be a peace maker wherever you are."

TRIALS BEFORE TRIUMPH
TEXT: 1 PETER 1:7

"That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ." (1 Peter 1:7).

"Character cannot be developed in ease and quietness. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success can be achieved," states Helen Keller. Trials of life are common to all. That you have given your life to Christ does not insulate you from the trials of life. The difference between a youth who is born-again and the sinner is that the former has assurance of triumph over every trial but the latter has no hope of victory, particularly beyond the grave.

Remember the story of Job. He lost everything - his wealth, children and even his health. However, he triumphed and received more than what he lost in his period of trial because he had an unshakable faith in God. Are you confronted with ill-health, poverty, academic failure, rejection or persecution? Don't give up. Remain faithful to the Lord and you will be victorious.

Chɑllenge: "Trials could come to you."

Prɑyer: "Lord, give me victory over every trials."

Quote: "Don't give up."

BE OF GOOD CHEER
TEXT: ACTS 27:25

"Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me." (Acts 27:25).

In a world of many adversaries and adversities, the Christian youth must encourage him/herself in the unfailing word of God. The hearts of many people fail because they consider their challenges insurmountable. Whenever you are discouraged remember this hymn, 'Never Give Up,' by Frances J. Crosby: "Never be sad or desponding, if thou hast faith to believe; Grace, for the duties before thee. Ask of thy God and receive." Learn to take your eyes from the raging storms around you. Instead be, "Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith." The passage for consideration indicates how Apostle Paul had to encourage his co-voyagers to "be of good cheer" because they were so scared of drowning that they could not even eat for many days even though food was available.

Once you have made Jesus your Lord and Saviour, do not allow any situation appear hopeless to you. In fact none can be. Jesus is ready to pull you out of any adverse situation. He promises never to leave you nor forsake you. Cheer up, beloved of the Lord!

Chɑllenge: "See Jesus through your Adversity."

Prɑyer: "Lord, help me to trust you."

Quote: "Cheer up, beloved of the Lord!"

THE WILES OF THE DEVIL
TEXT: EPHESIANS 6:11

"Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." (Ephesians 6:11).

"Wiles" which is a keyword in the topic, refers to the devilish or cunning stratagems employed by Satan in manipulating or persuading people to do his bidding. They refer to the tricks the devil uses to trap people to commit sin. Youths who are vigilant will always spot the devil's strategies and avoid them. These strategies manifest through allurements to sin against God. He uses human agents to achieve his goals.

Remember the trick Satan played on Eve in the Garden of Eden. He presented the forbidden fruit as good and beneficial to the woman. The Bible says he deceived Eve. If you are not yet born again, you cannot overcome the devil because you will not have the strength to do so. Do not expect Satan to come to you in the form of a serpent and speak with you. Anyone who is trying to entice you to commit sin is on an errand for Satan. Say, "No," to that person. Satan could tempt you through your own thoughts. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Chɑllenge: "Who do you listen to?"

Prɑyer: "Keep me to the end, Oh Lord."

Quote: "Resist the devil and he will flee."

FLEE FORNICATION
TEXT: GENESIS 39:7-23

"Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body." (1 Corinthians 6:18).

Thomas Brooks made a valid point when he said: "The way of holiness that leads to happiness is a narrow way; there is but just one room enough for a holy God and a holy soul to walk together." Youths who engage in fornication, masturbation, lesbianism, homosexuality and other lascivious lifestyles are not on the narrow way which leads to life and joy. Fornication is a devastating sin among youths. It has cut short the academic prospects of many boys and girls. It has made many girls baby-mothers and led to withdrawal from school, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), abortion and death.

If you are involved in fornication, know clearly that you are a sinner. You are an enemy of God and the judgment of God hangs over you. Genuine repentance is the only way out. Turn your life over to Jesus and be born-again. As a born-again youth, resolve never to be involved in fornication. Don't encourage or assist anyone to commit fornication. Let your garment of righteousness remain immaculate white. The Lord will give you grace to overcome if you rely on Him.

Chɑllenge: "There is no excuse for fornication."

Prɑyer: "Keep me holy, O Lord."

Quote: "Fornication is a devastating sin."

FLEE YOUTHFUL LUST
TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 6:9-10

"Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart." (2 Timothy 2:22).

Gregory W. Bourgond inspired his listeners in a unique manner as he opined that: "Our values form our attitudes. Our attitudes condition our motives. And our motives stimulate our behaviour." A Christian youth who has not clearly determined his/her values, attitudes and motives will fall for anything- including youthful lust! Make heaven your goal and lust will flee from you. The Lord is charging you to flee youthful lusts which could be a strong impure or immoral desire towards the opposite sex. The Lord instructs very strongly that youths who are born-again should not just avoid lust but flee from it. When lust is allowed to settle in the heart it leads to damnation.

Run away from anything that can arouse your emotions and desire to commit fornication. These include television programmes (especially music, and movies) books, newspapers and magazines; pornography on the internet, etc. Remove your eyes when you meet scantily dressed men, women, boys and girls. The motive behind naked images is to inflame lustful passions in viewers. You must refuse to be a prisoner of lust.

Chɑllenge: "Protect your life from fornication."

Prɑyer: "Like Joseph, Lord, give me power over sexual immorality."

Quote: "Refuse to be a prisoners of lust."

IDOLATRY FORBIDDEN
TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 10:14

"Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry." (1 Corinthians 10:14).

The simplest definition of idolatry is the, "worship of idols." An idol is a representation of a god which is an object of worship. Some people worship images of human beings, animals, birds, fishes and other creatures. Others worship elements such as the sun, moon, and stars. God is a jealous God and cannot accept any rival. Once you are born again the song of Frances Ridley H. becomes your vow: "Take my life, and let it be consecrated Lord to thee. Take my moments and my days. Let them flow in ceaseless praise."

Note that extreme admiration, love, or reverence for something or someone is idolatry. There is current widespread occultism across the globe which is idolatry. The commandment against idolatry is the first in the Ten Commandments and is still relevant in Christendom today. If you have anything else in which you place your trust, repent today and allow Jesus into your heart and make Him your Lord and Saviour. That is your only hope of escaping the eternal Lake of fire. For Christian youths, nothing must attract you to idol worship.

Chɑllenge: "Reject idol worship, reject occultism."

Prɑyer: "Take my moments and my days. Let them flow in ceaseless praise."

Quote: "God is jealous God and cannot accept rivals."

SAINTS, WEEP FOR THE SLAIN
TEXT: LAMENTATION 1:9-16

"Oh thɑt my heɑd were wɑters, ɑnd mine eyes ɑ fountɑin of teɑrs, thɑt I might weep dɑy ɑnd night for the slɑin of the dɑughter of my people!" (Jeremiah 9:1).

Pondering on the mɑiming and killing of innocent people worldwide through wɑrs, insurgency or terrorism, one could not but wonder whether the Red and Pɑle horses spoken of in the book of Revelɑtion were not alreɑdy ɑt work. We ɑre presently pɑssing through ɑ similɑr experience that brought Jeremiɑh's lɑmentɑtion: "abroɑd the sword bereɑveth, ɑt home there is ɑs deɑth" (Lɑmentɑtion 1:20b). But Jeremiɑh's greɑtest ɑstonishment wɑs the complɑcency or indifferent ɑttitude of the pɑssers-by in his dɑys, Hence he lɑmented: "Is it nothing to you, ɑll ye thɑt pɑss by...?"

As ɑ sɑint of God, ɑre the countless souls trooping suddenly to hell nothing to you? How do you respond when you see the 'sin-slɑin trɑvellers from Jerusɑlem to Jericho,' those thɑt Sɑtɑn hɑs stripped nɑked in the nɑme of fɑshion? Are you feeding your fleshly lust on them, pɑssing the other side like the Levites who overlooked ɑ wounded mɑn by the roɑdside or ɑre you deep in agonizing prɑyer for them? The world needs youths who cɑn rise up ɑnd rescue the perishing and cɑre for the dying. Sɑints, weep for the slɑin.

Chɑllenge: "Is it nothing to you thɑt pɑss by?"

Prɑyer: "Oh God. scɑtter thou the people thɑt delight in wɑr."

Quote: "The world need youths who cɑn rescue the perishing."

"And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life" (Matthew 19:29).

A paradox is a statement which is difficult to believe or goes against general belief. The bible is full of such and it takes spiritually discerning minds to understand and respond positively to them. How can you cast your bread upon waters because you will find it after many days or save your life and lose it but lose your life and save it? Any man who desires to be first, the same shall be last and servant of all! Paradox of life indeed!

Put on your thinking cap and apply our text to the story of Moses in Hebrews chapter 11. Had he chosen to become Pharaoh's heir, he would have either perished in the plague of the first son or in the Red Sea. Thank God, he chose rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the pleasure of sin for a season. As a youth you must be ready to forsake so many things for the sake of the gospel. How willing and prompt are you to forsake all to purchase the pearl of great price?

Chɑllenge: "Sell all to purchase the pearl of great price."

Prɑyer: "Give me a consecrated, surrendered heart, Lord."

Quote: "Forsake all to buy the pearl of great price."

JEHOVAH JIREH
TEXT: GENESIS 22:13

"And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ramand Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son" (Genesis 22:13).

A servant of God was going on an assignment some years ago when his car was involved in a crash with a rich man’s car. All his pleas for pardon fell on deaf ears as the man insisted that his car must be repaired and restored to its elegant state. Apart from loss of time, he knew the parts were very expensive and worst of all he had no money on him or even in his bank account. Instead of worrying, he left everything in Jehovah Jireh's hand and followed the angry man patiently as they moved from one stage of repair work to another. As the repair was completed, the hitherto angry man just turned to him and instead of asking him to 'Settle the bill,' he told him, "Go!"

Jehovah Jireh settled the bill in His own way. He is still our sufficiency in all things today. He can supply our needs in all circumstances if we can by faith, rely on Him and remain faithful while waiting for Him like Abraham.

Chɑllenge: "Jehovah jireh is still our all sufficient supplier."

Prɑyer: "Jehovah , supply this my need (mention it), in Jesus name."

Quote: "He can supply all our needs."

GRAB THE OPPORTUNITY
TEXT: GENESIS 24:10-20

"And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times, then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice" (2 Kings 13:19).

"What is the difference between an obstacle and an opportunity?" asked Sidlo Baxter. His answer: "Our attitude towards it. Every opportunity has difficulty, and every difficulty has an opportunity." In the same vein, Thomas Edison opined that "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work."

In our text, Joash was confronted with such a golden opportunity. On one hand, he was confronted with an avowed enemy nation; on the other, the opportunity of standing before the prophet who had the final solution to his problem before passing to glory. The opportunity was packaged in a prophetic riddle which the king was expected to work out. Alas! He missed out. How many youths are keeping vigil, crying and praying for opportunity yet when it comes it passes them by unnoticed. Re-consider your attitude towards 'Mr Opportunity.' You must maintain a good relationship with God so that He can reveal opportunities to you.

Chɑllenge: "Grab fast your opportunity, or you lose your chance."

Prɑyer: "give me the right disposition towards every opportunity."

Quote: "Every difficulty has an opportunity."

IMMACULATE BRIDE OF CHRIST
TEXT: EPHESIANS 5:26-35

"And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints" (Revelation 19:8).

Seasoned marriage counsellors usually counsel intending couples to start their courtship discussion on 'My Ideal Wife/Husband.' This is to enable the intending spouse know and prepare to fit in to each other's dream. Jesus, our bridegroom made a clear and categorical statement about His ideal bride, 'a glorious church not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.' An 'Immaculate Bride' is His ideal bride – a righteous bride. "Nothing can damn a soul but his own righteousness; nothing can save him but the righteousness of Christ, says C. H. Spurgeon.

To this end, all intending brides of Christ should thirst, consecrate and pray in faith until this state is granted. Our text shows that it is a grant. It is a definite work of grace. Pursue it until you can say with Thomas Traherne, "...that within I felt no stain, nor spot of sin. No darkness then did over shade. But all within was pure and bright. No guilt did crush, nor fear invade. But all my soul was full of light."

Chɑllenge: "All Christ's idea brides are granted fine linen of Holiness."

Prɑyer: "Lord, grant me, your bride, the robe of righteousness."

Quote: "An immaculate Bride is His idea bride."

A FORTUNE AT YOUR FEET
TEXT: ACTS 16:6-13

"And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad" (Genesis 21:19).

Brendon Francis once said, "Inspirations never go in for long engagements; they demand immediate marriage to action." How many great and noble ideas lie buried in the grave of inaction! Many youths today are lamenting as a result of the hardship the global economic recession has brought upon them. They sleep in prayer houses for breakthroughs, yet will not open their eyes of understanding to see the well of fortune in front of them!

The action of Hagar in our text is instructive. As soon as her eyes were opened, she went, filled her container with water and gave her son the water to drink and life/posterity was restored. Our response to divine illumination should be spontaneous. Like Paul and his team, "... after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go..." God is not in the habit of dispensing precious vision on the altar of procrastinators. All around your seeming desert land lies a gold mine of fortune, pray to God to open your eyes, then rise up and grab it.

Chɑllenge: "Take a step and grab a fortune."

Prɑyer: "Open my eyes Lord, to see fortune at your feet."

Quote: "Pray to God to open your eyes."

GET THIS BEFORE YOU GO
TEXT: ACTS 19:1-12

"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you, and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth" (Acts 1:8).

A contractor who had suffered much as a result of recession came home one day and announced to his family a breakthrough contract he had won. Months later, the last daughter who had been expecting, at least, a little change in their living condition but seeing nothing asked the father to know what was happening. The father told her that he was waiting for 'mobilization fund.' That is the initial release of money that would enable them to start the job. Without the mobilization fund, the work could not be done.

In a similar vein, Jesus had trained and commissioned His disciples for a world outreach but on their own they could not accomplish the task. He therefore, commanded them to tarry for the Holy Spirit mobilization for the harvest of souls. They obeyed, got the Holy Ghost power and turned the world around for Christ. The poor harvest of souls today is due to lack of the power of the Holy Ghost in the harvesters. Pray to be sanctified and endued with power from on high. Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed?

Chɑllenge: "You need the Holy Spirit mobilization to the harvest field."

Prɑyer: "Lord, I need a personal Pentecost experience."

Quote: "Have you received the Holy Ghost?"

EVER READY
TEXT: 1 JOHN 3:1-10

"Be ye therefore ready also: for the son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not" (Luke 12:40).

Sometime ago, a notorious gang of robbers wrote to a community alerting the people of their intention to visit them. They advised them to get ready to meet them because it would be a bloody and disastrous confrontation. The community leaders met and put up a stiff security measure. Days, weeks and months went by and no sign of invasion. Then they relaxed. At the dawn of one fateful day, they came in full force maiming, burning, looting, raping and killing. Within some hours, the community became a ghost town.

Jesus warned His disciples that His coming would be unpredictably sudden. It would take many people unawares. The only prescription for not missing the rapture is to be ever ready. God has you in mind in His eternal plan of salvation but you have a role to play - stay ready. Checkup! Are you also ready? Are you born again with current assurance of salvation? Have you made all necessary restitutions? Ensure you are living holy. Then, be busy where you are, serving the Lord. Are you really ready?

Chɑllenge: "Watch and be ready for the Lord's coming."

Prɑyer: "Lord, help me to be watchful and prayerful."

Quote: "Are you really ready?"

PETITION GOD AND POSSESS
TEXT: JAMES 5:13-18

"And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with meAnd God granted him that which he requested" (1 Chronicles 4:10).

In his book, The Prayer of Jabez, Bruce Wilkinson succinctly summed up this prayer thus: "Things started badly for a person no one had ever heard of. He prayed an unusual, one sentence prayer. Things ended extraordinarily well."

Jabez, undoubtedly, is one of the very few characters in the Bible that enjoyed the dividend of prayer. If prayer is to be accepted as good because it is answered, as Charles Finney put it, we can confidently add Jabez just like, "Samuel among them that call upon his name; they called upon the Lord, and he answered them" (Psalm 99:6). You may not be able to stand great like Moses and Elijah but your life, as someone put it, can be the single most powerful arena on earth to change a life for God. Jabez's greatness was born out of determination and uncommon faith in the power of God to change negative situations through prayers. You can change your negative situations, be it academic failures, poverty or sickness, with a petition to heaven and you will possess your possession.

Chɑllenge: "Lack of prayers hinders progress in life."

Prɑyer: "Lord, bless me indeed and enlarge my coast."

Quote: "He prayed an unsual, one sentence prayer."

NO ONE ELSE
TEXT: JOHN 3:14-19

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).

In his book titled You Can Win, Shiv Khera wrote: "We hear every day that knowledge is power. Not really. Knowledge is information. It is potential power and it becomes power only when it is acted upon." The information that Jesus Christ is the Saviour of the world is confirmed in many places in the Bible. However, this information becomes power only when we act on it by faith. Mere head knowledge will not bring about the transformation of lives that the name of Jesus offers to humanity. Jesus is the only one who can redeem His followers and no one else can give his life as a ransom for any. None! Many Church goers today know that Jesus is the Saviour, yet without experiencing His salvation because they have not personally accepted Him as Lord and Saviour over their lives. Be a wise seeker!

Salvation is not in creed or dogma but is in the atoning sacrifice of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Only Jesus can save. Believe Him and be saved. Declare Jesus to the lost; they need Him!

Chɑllenge: "Declare Jesus to the lost, they need Him."

Prɑyer: "Oh God, open the eyes of the blind world to see Jesus."

Quote: "Only Jesus can save."

FROM TEARS TO SMILES
TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 11:1-11

"He that goeth forth and , bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him" (Psalm 126:6).

'Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning,' says the Psalmist. The story of Jabesh-gilead under Nahash, the tyrannical king of Ammon showed how God can turn tears into smiles. (1 Samuel 11) The people of Jabesh-gilead had pleaded to become servants of Nahash but he would only accept them by removing their right eyes. Those who heard the tidings “lifted up their voices and wept." There and then, the Spirit of God came upon Saul and he sent a message of hope "... tomorrow ... ye shall have help... and they were glad." Truly, they got the help; the enemies were defeated. Today, be glad because you will have help.

Don't be discouraged as you sow seeds of the word of God into people's lives. God is watching your patience and will surely reward you with souls here and with crowns in eternity. Those who win souls are wise people who are resilient. God is a specialist in turning tears to smiles. Sow your gospel seeds by praying and preaching. God will surely make it fruitful.

Chɑllenge: "God is a specialist in turning tears to smiles."

Prɑyer: "Oh Lord, turn my tears to smiles."

Quote: "God is watching your patience."

JETTING OFF IN A JIFFY
TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 11:1-11

"In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed" (1 Corinthians 15:52).

A renowned man of God once narrated how he missed a very important preaching engagement. He went quite early to the airport before the departure time but there was flight delay. While waiting, he met an old disciple that needed his help. With his flight ticket in hand, they withdrew to a far corner and at the end he was happy that problem was solved. His flight was announced but as he was about to be checked in, his flight ticket could no longer be found. He rushed to the place where he had earlier counseled the disciple; it was a far distance. After a frantic search, he found his ticket in a booklet he left there. As he turned, he saw the plane taking off. It was too late, the incalculable damage was done!

Can you just stop and blink your eyes. That is just the time line it takes to hear the trumpet and take off for the rapture. Only those who are genuinely born again and remain holy can make the rapture. You need to be 24/7 rapture-ready if you intend to make it.

Chɑllenge: "Don't let it be too late! live ready."

Prɑyer: "Lord, keep me rapture-ready."

Quote: "Be 24/7 rapture ready."
