ELECTRONIC EVANGELISM
TEXT: MARK 16:15-20

"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" (MARK 16:15).

Evangelism is the presentation of the message of salvation by believers to sinners using diverse means possible with the aim of leading them to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Without evangelism, Christ's sacrifice and provision will not be known to sinners and they will be lost forever.

The methods of declaring the message is determined by time, place and people. The disciples fulfilled the Master's command on foot, which was the means available at that time.

Today, the world has developed into a global village, through the vast innovation in Information Communication Technology (ICT), providing various communication channels that can help speed up our reaching out to colleagues, friends and others.

Electronic-evangelism involves the use of electronic means to get the gospel to different people. The over 3 billion internet users can be reached with the gospel through the social networks: e-mail, blogs, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc.

Evangelism is an order from God; we must urgently do it to save sinners. Are you influencing your social media followers with God's Word? God will also reward the preacher.

MONDAY SEPTEMBER 12, 2022

THE ABOMINATION OF AMNON
TEXT: 2 SAMUEL 13:7-15

"Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her" (2 SAMUEL 13:14).

The world is experiencing a general rise in immoral acts, comprising rape and incest, which has resulted in many unwanted pregnancies and maternal mortalities due to unsafe abortions. This painful downward moral journey has become a worldwide plague.

In today's Bible text, Amnon committed a double crime of rape and incest against Tamar (Deuteronomy 27:22). The tragic event started with his unchecked lust, deceitful counsel from his friend, Jonadab and obedience of the unsuspecting and defenceless Tamar. What he called love was a selfish lust, for genuine love sacrificially seeks the good of others.

Amnon would not have acted on his lust, but for Jonadab's advice. Choose your friends wisely and avoid bad advice. Christians should rely on the Holy Spirit to differentiate between right and wrong. Remember, your sins affect the lives of others - remember Tamar.

Mentally and physically avoid evil youthful desires, and occupy yourself with things that promote peace, righteousness, faith and love with like-minded Christians. Support one another in the fight against sin.

THE BENEFITS OF HIS BLOOD
TEXT: ROMANS 3:20-30

"Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in His blood, to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God" (ROMANS 3:25).

"Only the blood of Jesus can cleanse us, yet if we withhold ourselves from that blood, we will be unclean forever," said Aiden Wilson Tozer.

Jesus came to earth to shed His blood for the sins of the world; there's no remission of sin without His blood. It is through faith in His blood that the remitting of sin is made possible and we have a right-standing with God. The benefits of Jesus' blood do not apply to everyone; only those who exercise faith in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.

We are cleansed and forgiven through Jesus' blood. Jesus' blood affords us salvation, protection from God's judgment, justification and reconciliation with God, complete emancipation (from bondages and curses), abundant provision, health and healing. We also have access to God, victory over sin, Satan and sickness.

By His blood, principalities and powers are overcome and we are made more than conquerors. Sinners can enjoy these benefits by confessing their sins and accepting Jesus as personal Lord and Saviour. Do not hold back.

GOD'S WORD AS HONEY
TEXT: PSALM 19:7-11

"The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb" (PSALM 19:9, 10).

Smith Wigglesworth said, "There are four principles we need to maintain. First, read the Word of God. Second, consume the Word of God until it consumes you. Third, believe the Word of God. Fourth, act on the Word." Honey is a nutritious, natural sweetener made by bees; an energy source that also serves as medicine for health and healing. This is a super-food that is compared to God's Word in our Bible text today.

From our passage today, God's Word is referred to as the Law, Testimony, Statutes, Commandment and Judgments of the Lord. Each was qualified respectively as perfect, sure, right, pure, clean and true. When one accepts and believes God's Word, it works wonders in one's life. It transforms a sinner's life and character, and is a soothing balm that refreshes and revives the soul. It makes the heart joyful and makes one wise. It enlightens, nourishes, develops, guides and gives us confidence. We have to study and obey the word to enjoy the benefits. If it must be sweet in your life, feed on it.

GOD'S WORD AS LIGHT
TEXT: PSALM 119:105-112

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path" (PSALM 119:105).

"Let there be Light," was the first command made by God in the Bible. The world was formed from the raw material of God's words. His word gave birth to light and day.

Light irradiates darkness, revealing what is in the dark; and discloses a positive or a negative path. That is what God's word does in our life; it is the light that shows us the way. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that."

Understanding and learning the spiritual principles of God's Word will help us avoid many sorrows, pitfalls and tragedies brought by wrong decisions and choices. We must treasure its wisdom and faithfully hold on to its instructions in all life's situations.

God's Word is the light in our pathway of life, directing and keeping us from stumbling and falling. If you never flip the light switch on, you cannot see in the dark. Likewise, if you do not open God's Word and read it, you cannot perceive the truth and live a faithful and stable Christian life.

GOD'S WORD AS MIRROR
TEXT: JAMES 1:21-27

"For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass" (JAMES 1:23).

In summarising Soren Kierkegaard's perception, Steve Evans explains that, "The fundamental purpose of God's Word is to give us true self-knowledge; it is a real mirror, and when we look at ourselves properly in it, we see ourselves as God wants us to see ourselves." We use mirrors to assess ourselves every morning and make necessary adjustment to our appearance. While the mirror reflects us on the outside, God's Word reflects us on the inside.

When we read or listen to God's Word, we should check ourselves if there are sins to confess, examples to follow, instructions to obey, promises to claim, blunders to avoid or habits to change. Then we allow God to realign our hearts with His. You see, the Word of God is a mirror that the Holy Spirit uses to allow us to see ourselves as we really are. This view is how God sees us.

Mirroring your life with God's Word comes with great blessings such as freedom from sin, Satan and his afflictions. Hearing God's Word and rejecting it leads to self-deception and eternal doom.

GOD'S WORD AS LAMP
TEXT: PROVERBS 6:20-27

"For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life" (PROVERBS 6:23).

The first lamp was invented around 70,000 BC, with the primary function of providing illumination. According to John Calvin, "Unless God's Word illumines the way, the whole life of men is wrapped in darkness and mist, so that they cannot but miserably stray." To triumphantly navigate your way through this spiritually darkened world, you need God's Word. If you use the lamp of God's Word as your guide, you will never lose your sense of direction in life.

Being passionate about the Word, and letting it guide and direct your steps, will keep you away from temptations and everything immoral. God's Word is a true lamp; studying and meditating on it illumines your pathway, clears your doubts, and makes you a conqueror over demons.

Dear friend, when people in your school, neighbourhood or on the social media are suggesting some strange things to you, take your Lamp and look well; you will never go wrong. Joseph had the Lamp; so, Potiphar's wife could not lead him astray. Remember, there are blessings in heeding God's Word.

THE PERSONALITY OF PILATE
TEXT: MATTHEW 27:7-24

"Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?" (MATTHEW 27:17).

According to Ben Lindsey, "Pontius Pilate was the first censor and Jesus Christ the first great victim of censorship." As Bible students, we already know that Pontius Pilate, the fifth governor of the Roman province of Judaea, was the official who presided over the trial of Jesus and later condemned Him to death and ordered His crucifixion after washing his hands. He is known as one of the most controversial and mysterious figures in human history.

From his action, Pontius Pilate is seen not only as a man full of intrigues but also as a leader who was cruel, ruthless, hypocritical and knew how to do his dirty job. The Roman governor was also seen as a wavering judge, who initially exonerated Jesus before deviating from his original fairness and bending to the will of the crowd to condemn Him to death. Pilate knew of Jesus' reputation and miracles, which is why His earlier decision was that Jesus was not a common criminal. But he suddenly turned and asked Jesus, the truth personified: "What is truth?" Do not twist the truth but uphold it.

PRIMACY OF PURE RELIGION
TEXT: JAMES 1:23-27

"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world" (JAMES 1:27).

In the words of Albert Schweitzer, "Any religion or philosophy which is not based on a respect for life is not a true religion or philosophy." The religion which pleases God is one that is faultless and pays attention to people in distress in our society. To ensure that their religion is not worthless but acceptable to God, believers must tightly bridle their tongues so as not to deceive themselves and others (James 1:26). No matter how many Christian activities you engage in, if you tell lies, speak unkindly, gossip and slander others or profane God's name, then your religion is empty and vain. As a genuine child of God, it is of prime interest for you to keep your tongue under control (Psalm 34:12-13).

God wants you to take care of those in distress, keep yourself from the pollution of the world, take care of the less privileged, and strive for personal purity and growth. Although the poor, the crippled, the lame and the blind cannot repay you, you will be blessed and repaid at the resurrection of the righteous (Luke 14:13, 14).

FACTS OF TRUE FREEDOM
TEXT: PSALM 126:1-3

"Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them" (PSALM 126:2).

John Piper describes true freedom as "a state when you are fully free, when you have the desire, the ability, and the opportunity to do what will leave you with no regrets forever."

The Lord miraculously brought the captive Israelites out of Babylon into their own land; they experienced true freedom that was striking and a big surprise to them.

Many youths today are in captivity to sin and various vices including lying, stealing, fornication, masturbation, drug addiction, cultism, envy, murder, pool betting, and internet fraud. God is the only one who can grant true freedom to anyone in bondage to sin and Satan.

If you repent of all sins, accept the Lord as Saviour, then true freedom is guaranteed. Like the children of Israel in our text, it will be a happy experience to be a recipient of the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

When one has experienced true freedom, the evidence will be a transformation of life that will be visible to people around you. If you are still struggling with sins, you need to embrace true freedom from Christ now.

CORRECTION IS GOOD AND COMMON
TEXT: HEBREWS 12:5-12

"My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth" (PROVERBS 3:11, 12).

Pinterest stated that, "Correction is only seen as judgment by those who still love their sin."

God is a loving Father, always planning the best for His children. Even when we err from the path of righteousness, blinded by our depraved heart, our God lovingly corrects us. Often, divine chastisement may be perceived as unpleasant, even resisted or repulsed by some unruly children of God. Yet, our Omniscient and benevolent Father deliberately uses such as an instrument of correction, to deliver us from eternal damnation.

Wiser children of God would happily submit to divine chastisement, knowing that it is the path to greatness. Many children of God who submit to correction in the home or Church usually grow up to become trustworthy workers and leaders in their chosen careers.

Dr. Ben Carson's mother singlehandedly raised her three sons. She was strict on them when she noticed that they were bound for failure and waywardness. She supervised their engagement in domestic chores, reading and doing their school assignments. Eventually, they all moved from zero to hero in life. God has blessings for obedient children (Ephesians 6:1, 2).

DO YOU BELIEVE IN DESTINY?
TEXT: JEREMIAH 1:1-10

"Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations" (JEREMIAH 1:4, 5).

Underscoring the irrevocability of destiny, Linda Poindexter opines: "If one drop of rain can find its way to the ocean, one prayer can find its way to God." Indeed, unrestrained by self-imposed hurdles, divine destiny for every child of God must be fulfilled. Like Prophet Jeremiah, every person has a destiny determined and monitored by God, long before birth! Realization of our destiny, however, depends entirely on our understanding, personal commitment and determination to pull through with it.

Eli and his house were ordained by God to continue in the priesthood but missed it due to sin. Saul, the first king of Israel, also had a similar problem. His kingdom could not continue due to disobedience to God's word (1 Samuel 15:22-23).

Child of God, there is a divine plan for you which you must prayerfully discover, nurture and carry out. The question is, are you walking in tune with the Author of destiny? Are you saved? Once converted, we are set on the right track for the realization of our destinies, provided we continue steadfastly till the end.

ESCAPEES RE-ENTANGLED
TEXT: 2 PETER 2:18-21

"For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them" (2 PETER 2:21).

"If repentance is neglected for an instant, one can lose the power of the Resurrection as he lives with the weakness to tepidity and the potential of his fall," Saint John Chrysostom pointed out.

The Christian life is a life of consistent walk with God. If one allows some negative factors to preoccupy him or her, backsliding can set in. This was the case of Demas who was a close co-worker with Paul. Hear what Apostle Paul said of him, "For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica..." (2 Timothy 4:10).

Indeed, Jesus paid the price for our redemption from the power and bondage of sin and Satan. However, our salvation remains conditional, valid only "if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end" (Hebrews 3:14).

So, even occasional neglect of communion with God exposes the most pious Christian to temptation and possible fall. Restoration from backsliding may be difficult as the devil will do everything to resist it.

DRIVEN BY EVERY WIND OF DOCTRINE
TEXT: EPHESIANS 4:8-15

"That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive" (EPHESIANS 4:14).

James Cagle says, "To be double-minded is to be inconsistent, vacillating, to be and act one way today and be and act some other way tomorrow."

In our text, God draws our attention to the provisions He has made to promote spiritual growth of His people so they may be stable and consistent in faith. Every child of God must strive to walk closely with the Master, Jesus Christ, employing the means of grace, in order to ensure sustained spiritual growth and development.

Those who ignore this would be spiritually malnourished, unable to resist temptations, and easily deceived by every wind of false doctrine. This was the case with the Galatian Church. They were born again and walking by faith until they were deceived to abandon faith and embrace the Law. Apostle Paul had to vehemently rebuke and redirect them to faith (Galatians 3:1-5).

Child of God, do everything to avoid imbibing doctrines that are not biblical. So, be careful about the kinds of books you read, the messages you listen to, the religious meetings you attend and the friends you keep.

FOR CHRIST'S SAKE, FORGIVE
TEXT: EPHESIANS 4:29-32

"And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you" (EPHESIANS 4:32).

Andy Stanley said, "In the shadow of my hurt, forgiveness feels like a decision to reward my enemy. But in the shadow of the cross, forgiveness is merely a gift from one undeserving soul to another."

Truly, forgiving our offenders is a very difficult decision for the carnal nature within us. It is only the grace of God that enables a person to forgive. This underscores the age-old maxim: to err is human, but to forgive is divine. Having forgiven us our sins and delivered us from the bondage of Satan, Jesus commands His people to "forgive men their trespasses" (Matthew 6:14, 15). This is a necessary condition for us to also earn forgiveness from our Heavenly Father; otherwise, we jeopardise our own ultimate salvation.

As a youth, do you have some boys and girls that you keep malice with because they offended you? How about your family and Church members? Absalom failed to forgive Amnon who defiled his sister and he later killed him. Why not be like the loving Joseph who forgave his brothers who sold him to Egypt?

FORTUNES AND FORGETFULNESS
TEXT: DEUTERONOMY 8:11-19

"But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day" (DEUTERONOMY 8:18).

Wealth or riches, also referred to as fortunes, has innate powers that can influence the owner(s), inspiring arrogance, impudence, and/or superiority complex. People who have been blessed with fortunes tend to despise the less privileged or less fortunate persons.

This tendency can also manifest in the lives of God's people who do not employ the means of grace, as provided in the Scriptures. Thus, fortunes can cause people to forget God, who alone enables us to create wealth, and live as though there were no eternity - to the peril of their souls! So, Dwight L. Moody asserts: "We can stand affliction better than we can prosperity, for in prosperity we forget God."

Beloved, if God has blessed your parents with wealth, do not stride around as a big shot looking down upon indigent students in your school. Be grateful to God for the provision and worship Him with your family's fortunes. When you grow up and go into your own career, it will be easy for you to consecrate your all to God.

GOD'S UNFAILING GUIDANCE
TEXT: PSALM 32:5-11

"I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye" (PSALM 32:8).

Robert Breault wrote, "I identify more with people who ask each day for divine guidance than people equipped with a divine guidance system." This quote underscores the importance of watching and waiting every day at the post of the divine (Proverbs 8:34) to obtain guidance on every single matter that relates to life and godliness.

This would require persistence in seeking the LORD through all the means of grace - prayer, praise, study, meditation on His Word, as well as fellowshipping with the brethren. Our God, who has promised to provide divine guidance to all who seek Him, will never fail us.
Like a wilderness, this world is too vast and uncharted for any human to expect to make it to Heaven without daily reliance on divine
guidance. Hence, the hymn writer wrote:

"Guide me, O Thou Great Jehovah!
Pilgrim thro' this barren land;
I am weak, but Thou art mighty,
Hold me with Thy pow'rful hand:
Bread of heaven! (2ce)
Feed me now and ever more." (2ce)

Wouldn't you rather depend on God's unfailing guidance?

JESUS' GLOWING TRIBUTE TO JOHN
TEXT: MATTHEW 11:7-15

"Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he" (MATTHEW 11:11).

As observed by Charles F. Stanley, "Disappointments are inescapable, but Christ's love is always there. When life lets us down, Jesus lifts us up." Tribute is anything said or presented to show admiration, praise or gratitude.

In today's Bible text, Jesus paid tribute to John. Jesus always appreciates our genuine efforts, no matter how little. He paid tribute to the woman who poured costly oil from an alabaster box on His head (Matthew 26:7-13) as well as the old widow who gave two mites which was all she had.

Although John the Baptist was a fiery servant of God who faithfully discharged his assigned duties in his time, yet he met disappointments and challenges in life. John faced many discouragements; he was imprisoned for preaching and ultimately beheaded. But Jesus Christ would bear witness to the courageous fulfilment of his ministry, and even publicly showcased his greatness in the kingdom of God, over and above other prophets. You too can earn similar commendation. Just pray and do your best.

A LISTENING EAR TO LEARN
TEXT: PROVERBS 22:17-21

"Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge" (PROVERBS 22:17).

Gary Rohrmayer stated, "Intimacy with God is not experienced through monologue prayers but through reflective listening as well as earnest petitioning."

Often, owing to a defective background and/or prolonged exposure to improper precepts or practices, many Christians go through life without understanding what it means to listen in the spirit. Yet, the Bible is replete with several invites from the Holy Spirit to every child of God to wait in His presence, listen, and be safely guided through the wilderness of this world.

Progressive growth and development in Christian spirituality are products of close walk with God, hinged on constantly listening in the Spirit and following where the Lord is leading. Those who comply and develop their spiritual listening skills will triumph over sin, Satan and the world.

The young man, Samuel, had a listening ear; he heard God call him, He spoke to him concerning a change in the priesthood of Israel. He learnt something which he relayed to Eli in the morning.

My friend, you are not too young to hear from God. Cultivate His presence by living a holy devotional life.

LONGING FOR THE PREPARED PLACE
TEXT: JOHN 14:1-4

"In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you" (JOHN 14:2).

Augustine wrote, "O God, you made us for yourself and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you." Any time a saint dies and the funeral ceremonies are being organized, we are reminded that a pilgrim has eventually ended his journey and is gone for his or her rest and rewards.

A truly converted soul awakens to a new awareness of the reality of God and the presence of His Spirit which He has released into his/her soul. Thus, such a soul, realising its true identity and citizenship of heaven, craves after heaven, the eternal home of all redeemed souls. Daily communion with our Heavenly Father, through daily prayer and study of His word, brings heaven closer to the soul of every true Christian.

All the glittering allurements of this world and all its transient glory would no longer satisfy the hunger and thirst in the soul of a truly sanctified Christian. In heaven alone may such a soul find true rest. If you are a sinner, give your life to Christ and be washed in His soul cleansing blood.
