I am shocked as to why and how the thread below did not make front page on NL
https://www.nairaland.com/1811369/fellow-nigerians-abubakar-shekau-dead-graphic

The thread in question proved CONCLUSIVELY, for the FIRST TIME, the death of the leader of the cowardly Boko Haram terrorist group. This is a group that has, through mindless bombings and gun attacks, sent thousands of Nigerians to their early graves in the last few years. This is a group that has waged a senseless war on the Nigerian people and the Nigerian state, killing, maiming, looting, and kidnapping at will. This is a group that has been described by some propagandists as better armed, better motivated than the Nigerian military; as having an upper-hand in the ongoing war; or worst still, as invisible.

The leader and the FACE of the evil and atrocious Boko Haram terrorist group is Abubakar Shekau.

The US, that has been fighting terrorism for decades, understood the psychology of taking out the leadership of terrorists organisations when it placed bounties on the leadership of Boko Haram, including $7m bounty on Shekau.

When the US captured and killed the leader of Al Queda, Osama Bin Laden, few years back, the whole world stood still and there was massive celebration in the US. The celebration did not mark the end of terrorism but it was a pyschological tonic for victims of terrorist attacks and most importantly, it demoralized the terrorist group and boosted the morale of those battling the terrorists on ground.

Yes, the killing of Shekau was not as dramatic as that of Osama. Yes, there was some uncertainty initially. Yes, even the Nigeria military was not hundred percent sure initially. But the SSS, through Marilyn Ogar, has since confirmed that Shekau is truely dead.

But most importantly, a Nlander has now shown CONCLUSIVELY that Marilyn Ogar was right and that Shekau is DEAD.

Indeed, thank God for the Nlander that created that thread, otherwise we would have remained a nation of 160 million dumb and mumu people. When our SSS told us that Shekau was dead, we did not believe them. The traditional and social media and the society at large still went on and on about Shekau video released every now and then to claim responsibility for terrorist attacks. The international media (AFP and co), sensing our MUMUness, continued to bombard us with Shekau's video every now and then, which suspiciously, they'r always the first to "lay their hands on it".

And when we doubted our SSS, what did we do? None of the 160 million people could investigate the matter privately? Thank God for the Nlander who came to the rescue of all of us.

Shouldn't we celebrate the confirmation of the death of the NUMBER ONE enemy of Nigerians? Shouldn't we celebrate the death of the man many Nigerians have cursed and prayed for his death even here on NL? Shouldn't we broadcast the death of Shekau to the high heavens? Shouldn't we celebrate this crucial psychological victory over Boko Haram? Shouldn't we celebrate the feat of our men in uniform who fatally wounded Shekau in the first place? Shouldn't we celebrate the fact that it took us only 4 years to take out Shekau unlike the US that spent 10 years trying to take out Osama? And why not?

And for those who try to diminish the significance of the death of Shekau, if it was not that significant, why did the terrorist group and their foreign collaborators look for Shekau's look like to continue to act as Shekau? Why was it so important to get at an impostor, which I assume most have been done with the help of their foreign collaborators?

I think we, both citizens and govt, have to get our priorities right in this nation. First, the thread on the death of Shekau deserves a place on the front page of NL. I think that is the MOST IMPORTANT thread created on NL so far this year.

Secondly, we must celebrate the confirmation of the death of Shekau and that celebration should begin on NL and spread to other Nigerian media outlets.

Thirdly, when AFP and other foreign media come with their next Shekau video, we must make it clear to them that we now know that Shekau is DEAD and that the man in their video is an IMPOSTOR.

As a country, we'r currently waging a war on terrorism. And in this war, everything and every victory counts. The govt, security agencies, citizens and the media must contribute their quota in this war. NL must do its bit. You and I must do our bits too.

Spread the good news!

Death to Boko Haram and all their sympathisers/collaborators!

God bless the federal republic of Nigeria!

@OP i honestly feel the same way too.
There's really a conspiracy to keep Shekau alive;this explains the intensity of Boko Haram attacks, because a lull would have convinced all that Shekau was truly dead.
The Nigerian government did not want to dwell on Shekau death because they know he was just a mere poster boy for the sect. The real Boko Haram sponsors are right here in Abuja..with support from certain western interests. i suspect France.

I repeat, I suspect France...

We dont expect APC sympathisers to celebrate the death of Shekau.

If the death of Shekau was inconsequential, why was it very important for Boko Haram and its collaborators, including leaders of APC, to get an impostor?

Whether you like it or not, the fact is that your friend Shekau is dead. The media should stop feeding us with lies. The man in the latest Boko Haram videos is an impostor. That is a fact. That is the TRUTH.

Do you expect supporters of the opposition to be happy with the decimation of Boko Haram? Haven't you noticed that APC e-warriors celebrate every successful Boko Haram attack? They see it as opportunity to abuse the president they hate so much.

14 April 2014: Boko Haram abducted approximately 270 girls at a boarding school in northeastern Nigeria, the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, west of Maiduguri.

05 May 2014: Attacked Gamboru
Ngala, a remote state capital near
Nigeria's border with Cameroon
that has been used as a staging
ground for Nigerian security
forces in the search for
the abducted 270 school girls.
Reports suggested that at least
310 victims were burned alive.
Boko Haram fighters were
wearing military uniforms and
used three armored personnel
carriers during the attack.

07 May 2014: A Nigerian police
officer was wounded during an
armed assault by Boko Haram
fighters on the road between
Maiduguri and Chibok, where
200 schoolgirls were abducted
on 14 April 2014.

On 6 May 2014, two bombings at
Jos (central Nigeria) that killed
more than 120 people.
On 22 May 2014 three attacks on

state. The most deadly was in the
town of Kerenua, near the Niger
border. Militants opened fire on
residents, killing 20, and burned
houses. The other attacks were
at Kubur Viu (5 people killed) and
Kimba (3 people killed). Inserted
photo shows Kerenua following
the Boko Haram attack:

On 24 May 2014 a suicide
bomber killed 3 people in Jos.
The suicide bomber intended to
target people gathered at the TV
screening of a football match, but
the bomb denoted before he
could reached the people.

On 26 May 2014, gunmen
attacked Chinene village in the
Chikide-Joghode-Kaghum Ward,
Gwoza Local Government Area of
Borno State, killing 9 persons and
setting ablaze six churches and
residential houses.

On 26 May 2014, suspected Boko
Haram fighters attacked the
Ashigashiya town in Borno, killed
9 people. The fighters took
control of the town for several
hours, burned homes and raised
white flags with Arabic
inscriptions.

On 26 May 2014, Boko Haram
militants attacked a Nigerian
military base and adjacent police
barracks simultaneously in the
north-eastern town of Buni Yadi
(Yobe region), during which 31
security personnel was killed.
According to an eyewitness the
attackers arrived in an armoured
personnel carrier and six Toyota
pick-up vehicles. The eye witness
also said that the attackers used
rocket propelled grenades. In
contradiction to previous attacks,
the gunmen called at residents
not to flee as the attack was
aimed against Nigerian security
personnel. In addition, one of the
attackers shouted in English:
“Let’s go, let's go. Finish this and
let's go." The insurgents also
razed the police barracks, the
army base, the high court and
residence of district head Abba
Hassan. This attack is in close
proximity to a February 2014
attack on a boarding school
during which 59 pupils were
either shot or burned to death.

car while travelling in a convoy to
the funeral of the emir of Gombe,
who passed away recently in
London. The emirs of Uba and
Askira were also in the convoy
and reportedly escaped the
ambush. Traditional Muslim
leaders perceived to be aligned
to the Nigerian government have
been targets of attacks as Boko
Haram views them as supporting
the Nigerian Government. During
January 2013, Emir Al Haji Ado
Bayero of Kano, regarded as the
second-most important Muslim
leader in Nigeria behind the
Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar
III, escaped an assassination
attempt by Boko Haram. Sa’ad
Abubakar III has called for a
unified strategy in countering
Boko Haram in a public address
at the National Mosque during
the weekend of 25 and 26 May
2014.

Does it matter where the terrorist is hiding? And how did you know your friend Shekau was in Nigeria all the while before he was killed? Even according to reports, Shekau died in Cameroun. But Osama lived for 10 solid years in Pakistan without being detected by the US

Stop spamming this thread with reports of Boko Haram attacks. This thread is about the death of your friend, Shekau, from injuries sustained from the bullets of our gallant solders. Just like Shekau, all other Boko Haram members, including those who perpetrated the attacks on those reports, will also face JUSTICE.

It took the US ten solid years to take out the leader of Al Queda but it took the Nigeria Army only 4 years to take out the leader of Boko Haram. Fact!
the essence of giving you those facts is just to let you know that the death of Abubakar Shekau shouldn't be a reason to celebrate but the death of terrorism.

The death of Abubakar Shekau hasn't changed anything about terrorism, of course there are many cases reported daily.

FACTS:

1. Shekau is DEAD

2. Shekau was located and killed by our gallant solders.

3. The man in the latest Boko Haram videos is an IMPOSTOR

4. AFP and other foreign media has been feeding us with wicked lies all this while. Why?

5. Shekau was identified and killed by our solders in just 4 years. Compare with the US that took 10 years to take out Osama in spite of all their sophistications.

Bottomline:

1. AFP, BBC and other media houses should stop the LIES now

2. The new Boko Haram leader should not be ashamed of answering his own name

This is war and I will celebrate every VICTORY along the way. Just like in football, you celebrate every goal scored, even when you'r not sure of the final outcome of the match.

But very importantly, we should set the records straight. AFP and other media houses should stop the LIES now.

you know nothing about sovereignty, cos you know nothing about diplomacy!

If he was shot by nigerian army, was it in Cameroon where he was reported dead?

Why didnt the Nigerian joint task force go to Cameroon or any of the other perceived neighbouring countries where he was to kill him like US did to Osama?

Where was sovereignty when US flew into Pakistan to take out Osama? Rubbish!

The slaughter of Shekau by our gallant solders cannot by any stretch of imagination be described as consolatory goal. Rather it is a MAJOR VICTORY in the war against terrorism. The US recognised this fact when it placed a bounty of $7 million on the head of Shekau

major victory since august 2013, yet our soldiers are dying daily, citizens are kidnapped and bombed, buildings and cars are destroyed.

A fool you are will never understand this until you are mutilated one day in a bomb blast or one of your children kidnapped!

Are you sure?

Anyway, Shekau is DEAD. Where is the $7 million promised by the US? Why has your friends in AFP being feeding us with lies about purported Shekau videos? Why is the new Boko Haram leader afraid of answering his own name? Do you have any idea?

It seems you didnt read the opening post. No where was it stated that the death of Shekau ends the terrorism. The US celebrated the death of Osama even when they knew it wouldnt mark the end of Al Queda.

why should we celebrate the death of boko haram when there are many atrocities committed by the children he begat?

Since the US made the public declaration of Osama's death, how many Al Queda's attacks on US has happened? Does that not call for celebration?

You both are making valid points.Yes,shekau's death calls for celebration but the mindless killings of his boys is very worrisome.

Disturbing to the point that this rag tag army of bandits overan a Nigerian army base in Damboa and hoisted their flag, leaving hundreds of avoidable civilian deaths in their trail. It is not yet uhuru

Are you not happy that since the death of Abu Qaqa, Boko Haram stopped sending all those annoying emails and phone threats? Or have you forgotten?
