What happened to you and your CIA and NSA that you can't even keep your secrets.

What happened to you that a single operative in Macao can access the list of 15,000 of you and others. Everyone now knows who you all are.

What happened that your 'contractor' Edward Snoden has given your secret to your 'geopolitical foe', Russia?

Is it not better to seek answers to these than trying to use 'panadol' for Nigeria Army's discomfort?

Nigerian Arny are just a bunch of useless cowards who don't see anything wrong in shooting a defenceless woman with a child on her back and killing both mother and child or shooting un-armed university undergraduates but will quickly run and hide with their tails between their useless legs at the mear mention of Boko Haram.

Nigerian Army are a disgrace to Mankind. Useless cowardly beasts in uniform.

Nigerian Army are a disgrace to all the other Armies arround the world.

You can't compare a war situation to an insurgency. Especially an insurgency that originally enjoyed the support of the locals and also has sympathisers among the echelon of the army itself.

The Nigerian Army is still the same if not better than what it was then.

Your reasoning is flawed.

You now comparing IMF loans with drugs sting operation undecided

My friend anybody that thinks deeply enough would realise that IMF loans is the easiest way to loot and that no looter would turn down a chance of an IMF loan.

Stop listening to western sponsored propaganda against one of our greatest leaders

Consider also, that at the time he turned down Western offers of IMF loans, oil was selling between $12 and $18 per barrel (today it sells for $112 per barrel) yet he still managed our resources judiciously enough to enable him to fulfil our role as regional superpower by intervening successfully in Liberia and Sierra Leone
OneNaira6:

The same way a 419er would decline a money sent to him/her if he or she thinks it's a set up. The same an arm dealer would walk away from a lucrative arm deal if he or she thinks its a set up. The same way drug dealers walk away from alot of drugs if he or she thinks its a drug bust set up. All criminals are known to refuse a lucrative money making tactics of their crimes if they believe it'll expose them. Abacha refusing the IMF loans means nothing other than the fact he probably thought his corruption would be easily detected if he stole from those funds. Simple as that.

His loots were discovered slowly in different times during different presidents of that Nigeria and you telling us, each and everyone of them is out there to paint Abacha black. Are you serious? Do you honestly believe that story would fly? I highly highly doubt everyone is in some kind of conspiracy to make Abacha look like the worst looter out of all presidents Nigeria had

Why is it that when a Nigerian lecturer goes to another country, s/he becomes almost the best lecturer in the system; but back here in Nigeria, our universities are in terrible shape? Why is it that Nigerian doctors working in other countries are some of the best doctors there; but here in Nigeria, our hospital system is in pitiable condition? The Nigerian nation obviously demotivates people from bringing out their best.

That is my point. How come we cannot do away with a pin prick as an insurgency as we comfortable dealt with gun shot injuries as dislodging dug-in rogue enemy troops in their own homeland?? Because tribalism and corruption has eaten deep inside the framework of the system and so our immune system cannot deal with an ordinary cold as it dealt with an Ebola affliction as before....What is stopping anybody from consulting with Victor Maalu on how to combat the menace or better still redraft top to bottom operation planners and men with those without any affiliations whatsoever? Since the second coming of Thief Obasanjo, there has been a concerted and deliberate effort to weaken our armed forces, in order to prevent a military coup de tat, whilst they loot freely. Dont you realise that is why they are always retiring dozens of military Generals every few months.

We’ve never fought this kibd of war before. Its always going to be difficult fighting against ur own people because there are bound to be people sympathetic to the terrorists.

The kind of terrorism we re facibg is what Algeria faced for a decade at the cost of over 200000 lives. It took the Algerians time to defeat the terrorists and today they’ve one of the most equipped armed forces in Africa. Algeria is the 1st African nation to have 10billion dollar defence budget and because of the experience they’ve garnered, Algerian army are arguably the best in africa.

The army will crush these terrorists, i have no doubt about it. We’re gettibg the right equipments now. Havibg the right miIitary equipments are very important and thats why niger deelta militantscan never embarrass the navy ever again because the navy now have the equipments to take care of militancy in our creeks.

God bless Nigeria

What happens to Nigeria Army is simple, Ethnicity and politics. When Obama took over power from Republican s, he kept the performing secretary of defence even though he was a Republican assigned. Obama only cares about his performance. BUT HERE IN NIGERIA, ONCE A NEW PRESIDENT COMES INTO POWER, HE DOESN'T TRUST ANY SITTING CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF. FOR FEAR OF COUP, THE PRESIDENT WILL BE FORCED TO CHANGE HIM WITH SOMEONE FROM HIS CLAN. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE PERSON IS A JUNIOR OFFICER, THEY WILL RETIRE ALL THE PROFESSIONAL OFFICERS ABOVE HIM TO PAVE WAY FOR HIS BROTHER TO BE COAS, AS GEJ DID FOR MIMIMA. This erodes professionalism that the force is well known for, and subsequently breeds division and politics.

Nonsense! So when those Northern rulers were busy giving Northerners more recruitment quota and tactically giving them more promotion than Easterners, so there was professionalism then?

Now that GEJ has come to restore justice and equity, the silly 'mufus' who now have a sense of entitlement feel shortchanged and would drag the Army to the mud.

A primary source of worker's efficiency is motivation; are the soldiers being well motivated? Of course NO. They earn pittance allowances (N1,000 a day in Internal Security Operations which sometimes or never gets to them as it is hijacked from the top), recruitment of stark illiterates (but they have improved now sha!), a 'don't talk' policy which makes the public to be completely unaware of what's happening inside, intimidation of juniors by seniors (both officers and soldiers), ethnic and religious sentiment (hatred), as already said lack of up to date or serviceable weapons/equipment despite the billions allocated from annual budget and most importantly: The what I can gain mentality in most Nigerian Army leaders; no one wants to be labelled 'DULL' and so there's a competition to HAMMER. How can a professional organization progress in this kind of situation?

The way Nigerians talk about Liberia and Sierra Leone, you will think they achieved their military objectives.

They were far from successful - in Liberia, Charles Taylor still ascended to power as people were so terrorised by his group they felt they had to vote him in. In Sierra Leone, the RUF required additional international military presence before they could be subjugated. The Nigerian military performance was mixed at best.

Somehow, a narrative has emerged that these were successful operations. If you go back in history, they couldn't defeat Niger-Delta militants, necessitating that we pay them to lay down their arms and before the ICJ ruling, failed to dislodge Cameroun from contested territories. Even the Biafra required heavy foreign military aid before they could conquer a rag tag army.

This story about the invincibility of the Nigerian army is the height of self-deception. This is why when the Boko Haram menace started, I was insistent that we had no chance of defeating them anytime soon. This insurgency will subsist for many more years.

If you believe so, then so be it. Bigot that always sees everything as Muslims vs Christians. In 2011 presidential election, nobody played religious card, majority of us didn't only voted for Jona but also worked for him. Now that people realized that Jona is a disappointment and colossal failure, you guys result to playing religious game so that his second term bid can be successful.
