I tend to disagree with you. In modern football, most players can function in more than one position. We saw Phillip Lahm play as a Rb and DM for Germany. Mascherano played as a CB for Barca most of last season. That Mikel was converted to a defensive midfielder at Chelsea doesn't mean he can no longer play as an attack-minded central midfielder. He played well in that role at the Nations Cup and Confederations Cup. He had a bad World Cup period.
