Sorry if i came across as abrasive in my last post. Just got irked with you talking about things you knew nothing about, talking about village and all. I know what i do in the UK and to just disparage my work in the only thing i do was quite prickly.
Sorry once again and this is certainly the end of it.

THUNDER4real: GEJ is on point, the society is not a grave yard where nothing happens except quietness. At least with this move he has set fire on this case group (doctors), let's see how these doctors react.
But come to think of it, These doctors are so heartless, how can you be on strike for more than one month........They want to kill many Nigerians and then conduct mass burial for them. Most Doctors in Nigeria are not suppose to study medicine, they are so after superiorty complex and always finding way to milk the poor people.

I'm afraid you're wrong. I hate to say this, but this is a great blunder from GEJ. Why fire the very group that keeps the Federal Hospitals running? Who's going to train the next generation of specialist doctors? Where are the poor and a huge chunk of the middle class going to run to? As we speak, a huge number of doctors have already left the country for better opportunities outside, and more are set to leave. Those left with PPs have now sworn to hike up their prices. Now who suffers? And do you really think the VERY FEW consultants we have left will be able to cater to the needs of 120mil+ citizens?

This is a MAJOR blunder from the presidency and MoH.

pumpingmachine: GEJ seems to be making sense these days. I would have pitied the doctors but the way they've been acting really shows they are feeling too proud and should be checked. No matter what u are fighting for, your country is fighting Ebola yet u are on strike just because some other professionals got a position. Who does that? I know for sure this would be reversed but it should get them ruffled in the time being.

Nigeria is dealing with Ebola very well without NMA, I think we can continue to survive without them

I'm afraid this is not "sense", but OUT RIGHT STUPIDITY OF THE HIGHEST ORDER. And this is coming from a staunch GEJ fan.

Who is begging them to stay? let them go and jam transformer. If they go abroad they will see how medicine is practiced and not this poo they practice in 9ja. You will see every health worker doing his or her own bits for the benefit of the patient.
Here in Nigeria doctors are the primary problem of the health sector. By the way, do you think practicing as a Nigerian trained doctor is easy abroad, so Mr man go and do your mathematics before posting rubbish.

Maybe you really need to read about the very reasons they went on strike in the first place. Maybe then you'll stop yapping trash.

Guy, you're the one talking now, but I can assure you that the nation may be facing an imminent collapse of the health sector, no thanks to this decision (especially now that we have an Ebola outbreak, the worst in history). Do you really think the Medical Officers are cut out to perform the jobs of these crop of experienced specialists who basically run ALL the Teaching Hospitals? Or do you think the 4000 consultants left nationwide can handle 120mil+ Nigerians? It is people like you that I pity, cos you're now faced with a situation were you can only get your health care services from Teaching Hospitals staffed with inexperienced MOS + overworked consultants OR private practices owned by specialist docs were you have to pay through your nose for services. Oh, I forgot to add that the health services will still be underfunded, no one to train the new crop of cos, inadequate facilities, etc. But hey, your choice.

Btw, the docs I've met are some of the most down - to - earth and fun loving class of dudes and ladies I know. Maybe it's cos of those 7+ gruesome years they face in medical school. Most of the hate you see actually come from those who basically couldn't make it into medical school (poor jamb scores, bad belle).

I bet this is your personal opinion.

There are people who believe HIV, Ebola or Polio don't exist.

And everybody is entitled to his own opinion.

However, we must all follow the law or we get into trouble.

I foresee a future where both unauthorized prescribers aka "killers" as well as the people who patronize them will be penalized.

Its very funny when I hear people talk about "Now the doctors will go practice outside Nigeria"... That's complete ignorance to the situation of things.. Now the world has changed and its only VERY FEW (worthwhile) countries that one would have the GOLDEN opportunity to get registered and practice... Its extremely difficult these days, and only plausible for just a few; and that is after a hard time writing exams and being persistent and dogged in their drive...
The truth is that most Nigerian doctors know this that is why they are still back home practicing....... Its very difficult these days...
In a few weeks time, those locum positions would be filled up with same doctors that went on strike as there would be a huge scramble for it
The strike actions were already getting alarming and embarrassing to the medical profession and Nigerians at large... It was one too far too many
As always "Discretion is a better part of valour"

this is a post from a nairalander who lost his dad,a soldier in the north to boko haram. RIP to the gallant soldier

He called me some weeks back and was complaining about the poor and inadequate amunition given to them, in Liberia and Sierra Leone was more than enough bullets for them to fight with but here they are given 30 to 60 bullets each day.
The current Commander in Chief, GEJ is not helping the nation, just 45 solidiers engaged 300 insurgents in a fiearce gun battle for 2 whole hours yet no land or air backup.
The soldiers fought till they ran out of bullets yet didnt run away but chose to die, this country is not worth dying for.

lrguru: u don't have to explain miss and before u start insultin me, which I'm sure was what u wanted to do, I'd say that y can't the big man buy those things for himself and why complain about it. If the roof is leakin, its govt, if the room is dirty, its govt, if the gen didn't work or they have embezzled all the money, people will still say its govt. U and I know that the FG is not doin well, but instead of complainin about this, why not attack the hospital management. Don't they have people in charge of sanitary or sanitation? If u as a Dr. Ur office is dirty, can't u clean it up? Will the FG come and do it for u? And like I said if the doctors had gone on strike strictly cos of the poor standards of hospitals then it is justified not cos of some selfish reasons. Ebola is out there and they are scared to attend to patient, cos they don't want to die. Who does not face hazzard in his/her place of work, abi na only Dr's de work for naija? How much do de pay drivers of public vehicles as hazzard allowance?. So since the dr's have been on strike what has changed, did the whole Nigeria die? Who wan live go live. Dr's are not GOD.

Is a resident a specialist or someone in training to become one? Is a resident a permanent staff or someone doing on the job training? Why are we always talking out of emotions without facing facts. There are consultants, who by right perform intrinsic jobs that u allay, GEJ said he will reinstate then once the problem in health sector is solved simple. That I believe will include holding people accountable for job done. Making sure u sign in and out of work. Making sure ethic and good team work is ensured. And let me say this, for people barking Doctors will run abroad to practice, I laugh. Can they really be able to cope abroad? Don't think they can get away with stuff they do here including incessant strikes, poor patient management, indiscipline and punctuality (signing in and out of work), accountability and good team work (especially when they have been taught in Nigeria its a master/slave relationship in hospitals without respect for other professionals as expressed even in this forum). Even has this belief a bachelors degree in Medicine and surgery makes then eternally higher than other Bachelors degree holders. Some have gone and would tell you better. Mindsets needs to be purged and respect needs to be restored. Ethics needs to be upheld. For the reason people are gathered is the patient not the Doctor or Nurses or anyone else. Doctors head each team/clinical services anyone can run the hospitals once he has administrative bias. Each profession has its own scheme of service, and heading a team isn't a boss/servant relationship but primus inter pares. Each unit is funded to maximise productivity. Salaries are negotiated upon job evaluation not collectively. Medicine has advance and we must move with the world and not lag behind. Indiscipline is punished by appointed review committee not a Doctor because u are not any persons Boss except fellow Doctor. A review committee must encompass members of each profession. Each profession should reach its pinnacle cos that's how Nigerians will get the best. I enjoy these things here so nigerians deserve same. quote author=ocelot2006]

People keep saying Hazard allowance, does the money compensate for exposures? People shouldn't really be paid for hazard monthly without being exposed rather an insurance policy established for compensation when hazard occurs. There is something called PPE's those are things to be clamoured for and enforced because Nigerians don't really comply to rules including Healthcare providers. Why should A Doctor touch a patient without wear a hand gloves? Most disregard safety measures and complain of exposures latter. Universal safety measure for healthcare providers is consider pathogenic till proven otherwise. Nurses, Doctors, Medical laboratory Scientists, radiographer, cleaners, ward attendants etc are all exposed to hazards at work. Government should stop paying workers Hazard allowance monthly but establish an insurance policy for compensation when hazards occur simple
