donwilly84: As far as am concern, there's nothing you will do to please most Nigerians. Our president is doing everything possible to us but unfortunately we keep calling him names his mother never gave him.
Festus Keyamo is entitiled to his opinion, so for that reason can say whatever crosses his mind.

You are quite simple minded, to believe that the confab was set up with your interests at heart.

Serious waste of time, during this confab ish, about 2k were killed by some insurgent group, and hundreds of our military men dead because of inferior fire arms to that of the insurgents, the money spent on this confab would have helped in purchasing better firearms..... #Nanxix

How will you call a whole gathering of men and women as waste of time? Do you u even know the issues that were discussed and decisions made?
Ide4u: Human rights activist and lawyer, Festus Keyamo, has restated that the ongoing national conference is a waste of time and public resources.

Keyamo restated this on Wednesday, while fielding questions from journalists at the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS), Warri, Delta State, adding that the confab was set up to achieve an agenda of the current government.

According to him, the current uneasy calm between southern and northern delegates and the attempt by some of the delegates to smuggle in a constitution through the conference was an indication that the conference was designed to achieve the aim of a certain party.

When asked if the resolution of the conference could transform into a new constitution for the country, Keyamo said the conference has no power and no role to play.

“The conference has no power to amend the constitution; it has no role to play. The conference is not really representative of the people of Nigeria to even suggest a new constitution because delegates were handpicked by all kinds of people and it is not fully the representative of the people of Nigeria so it’s clear that the conference is an exercise in futility; it’s a waste of time,”he stated.

Don't worry bro, this will be different..
Konnektions146: He has a point though, I see this confab as a venture by the government to settle certain individuals and calm nerves due to the increased request for a national conference,

Nigeria has a history of abandonment of panels' report and what would make this work?

A lot of them over there are just there to rest and have a change of their environment after retirement and I think that if the National Assembly is doing their job well enough, this confab wouldn't be here rather clearly controversial issues should be voted in(more like a referendum) to determine implementation.

But make dem enjoyed shaaa

It is said ignorant is a sickness.people calling names forgot to realize their ignorance that Festus Keyamo is a constitutional lawyer, who knew much more than anyone of you who is lay in the constitution of this great country called Nigeria.confab,or no confab, what is the duty of the National Assembly in terms of law making in this country?Go to bookshop and buy a copy of your country constitution, and read before making a blind arguments, whether or not the work the confab delegates are doing is right or wrong.its unfortunate that in that confab,we have eminent retired jurist and also respected(SANs)but then what happened......it's really most unfortunate to mislead this great country.God bless this country.

Keyamo is entitled to his own opinion.but d truth is dat dis confab presents us an opportunity to change d structure of dis country.am sure those who av written off d confab do not know d content of its report.decisions reached at dis confab are decisions dat national assembly can never pass, because of d way d constitution is written.dat is d reason d northern delegates are opposed to it.

For those who dont know...the conference is solely aimed at uniting the people of Nigeria. For sometime, it seemed like different parts of the country were resigned to letting the country break up....but the conference lets these people come together under one roof and dialogue. that is why the conference dwelt more on resource control which is the main problem in nigeria, and i believe it has served its purpose (for now at least). God bless our country

All confabs held since 1998 has been utter nonsense. The one's OBJ held were nothing to write home about. This one staged by GEJ is even the worst. It is utterly pointless and nothing but a formal talk-shop. I watch them on TV debating and I'm like WTF? Is this what you're a 100 thousand dollars for?

If the results of the national conference favours the northern region, they would have implemented the decisions of the conference by now. There would be no delay but they know they have no resources to fall back on so they choose to block the move of other region. The oil producing states in Nigeria should take over their oil resources by force and that will be the end of Nigeria.

I think Nigeria is getting to a turning point as people in Nigeria are becoming more aware of their rights. Fiscal federalism and resources control is becoming an issue in our political system and the north knows they will not have peace until they cooperate. The national conference is not a waste of time. It was highly beneficial as all the interest groups or region in Nigeria now know the feeling of the other. It is now left for Nigerians to work toward full implementation of the decision of the conference or keep it in the shelf for the doomsday when we decides to part and go our own separate ways.

The confab is not a waste of time. We need more of it. We need more of it in regions, in states, in LGAs, in communities. We need to come together from time to time and define the way we should be governed. We need independent representatives from time to time to come together and discourse on the issues that affect all of us. Those issues discoursed are written down in white papers. We will consult those papers when the need arise. It is not a waste of time or resourses.

Bluetooth2:

A confab that does not feature the ordinary man on the street but instead he's been represented by corrupt ex-governors, ex-senators, ex-state and federal lawmakers and others who are approaching their deaths only to be paid over #16 million for a 4 months job mostly occasioned by several hours of sleep and unnecessary arguments driven by diverse ethnic distrust and in the end, they can't even address the fundamental issues affecting Nigeria.

The money wasted on the confab should have been spent on something meaningful.

Most of those ordinary men on the street know little to nothing about the intricacies and complexities of the entity called Nigeria. We needed people who had some experience as to how things used to be, who know when and how we started getting things wrong because they were there, and who can proffer solutions that will be respected by those in government. Even if the 'ordinary man on the street' or the 'ordinary Nigerian youth' makes some intelligent suggestions, it will rarely be acknowledged and implemented.

It's not about the age of the delegates, but about a passion to see Nigeria change for good. Some of the so-called youth are worse than the old folks. Is it not we, the youth that are stirring up the division of Nigeria by our hate filled comments here on Nairaland?

Nigerians are just hard to please. For many years, Nigerians were clamouring for a National conference. Now the conference had been held, they are saying another thing. God will help this nation.
