Hello Nairalanders. I'm asking this question for a friend of mine. She has been married for 9 months now and is having an unusual problem in her marriage. She is just 29 years old and her husband, a 34 year old. The issue is that her husband bed-wets occasionally. It happens like once or twice in 3 weeks and she said it makes her feel terrible. She has moved to sleeping in the sitting room since she finds it unbearable waking up in a bed soaked with urine whenever it happens. She has sought medical help but it hasn't worked. According to her, her husband said the problem started about 7 years ago. Sex between her and her husband has ceased for the past 5 months now as her husband suffers low self-esteem as a result. Please, what can they do about this issue before it jeopardizes their marriage?

Is it that they did not stay together before going to the alter

She should have known before now since the problem has been there for 7 years. Well, she can just stay with him and help him get out of the problem. Otherwise, husby may get tired of life.

What medical help did he seek that did not work?

Bedwetting in an adult could be the result of an underlying problem so he has to be investigated further. It could be diabetes or prostate enlargement. It could be caused by urinary tract infection too.

The first step is behavioural therapy. He should ensure he does not drink fluids about 2hrs to his bedtime and he should ensure he empties his bladder before sleeping. He should also avoid alcohol and caffeine because they increase frequency of voiding.
He could also get an alarm clock to wake him at periodic times to urinate.

If it persists,he should go to the hospital to see a specialist(urologist).

Abeg this story is funny! The man should go for proper medical check up/treatment. An urologist not just a general practice doctor. If all odds fail, he should invest in adult diaper for night use.

Sleeping together prior to marriage isn't the issue. The heart of man is deep. A man can hide his shortcomings for 10years.

Its like the material that raincoats are made from. They sell it in the market depending on the size of material you require. You put it as a barrier before you put your bedsheet so liquids dont soil your bed.

There are several medical conditions that can cause it. @OP, is your husband on the fat side?

Omo see gobe. Well speaking metaphorically, the situation is simply a case of juju things in the local vicinity. Someone close is doing something beyond what the eyes can see. However sometimes we humans go true a mental stage called role reversal. When we take roles of some people of things. This man probably took the role of his toddler by bedwetting.

Best advice, remind him to pee before going to bed and wake him up a minimum of two times in the middle of the night to go pee in the toilet.

He's not fat in any way. He's athletic and plays football on weekends. I don't think someone as fit as him could be diabetic if that's what you imply. By the way, he's my friend's husband. I am a single mother.

She should divorce him!
Why should she bear that kind of cross, am sure the man hid it from her! She should have left since after all her happiness is what is important instead of swimming in urine the rest of her life! angry

grin
Just kidding!

Op its obvious they haven't seen a real doctor. Probably been asking advice from non-medical personel or visiting chemists and whatnot.

Its not as if he does it everynight sef. Once or twice in 3weeks i dont think is enough for her to go to a room of her own which would have contributed to his loss of self esteem.
They should visit a urologist. Simple.

Classic 'for better, for worse' example.
1. The lady should help him get his esteem back. As ugly as it sounds, this man is her hubby and she should help him through this, she has to start seeing it as THEIR problem, not HIS problem, she should stop telling people about it. I believe this is about the op, apart from faceless forums like this, make sure no other soul (well, except medixal personnels) know about this case. Let this husband realise that you love, adore and respect him (urine and all) and you'll go through this with him. I would have said not to be sleeping in the living room again but swimming in urine get as e be oo undecided lipsrsealed

2. Find solutions. See a good doctor to find the cause.

3. He should also stop taking water or food at night. Anything he has to eat should be before 6.00pm.

4. You both need alarms, wake him up or let him wake up at least every 3 hours at night to go to the bathroom.

Would this be difficult? Hell yeah
But you can go through this together.
Good luck

People who look fit in outward appearance can have diabetes.A test should be done.

Don't know why some posters think it's funny. It's someone's problem(and dat of his wife).

The biggest size of pampers is just ₦1500, buy it.

But seriously why should bed-wetting affect their sex-life? She is really making a mountain out of a mole-hole. She needs help because her husband now has low-self esteem, sorry who caused it? She made him feel terrible bout it.

Does the guy drink often? He should minimize his intake of water in the evening.

How can the wife stop sleeping with her husband because of something this small? For the past 5 months! She shouldn't let the devil gain a foothold in her marriage. Why should her husband have low esteem because of this? What is her role as a wife? Mehn, i can't deal.

This is his trying tym she needs to stand by him, love him, protect him and keep ez little secret.
They should both seek spiritual and medical help coz it's obviously not normal. she should also get a mackintosh but it shouldn't affect their their sex life and she shouldnt rub it to his face coz am so sure he feels very bad and depressed already she now making a mockery of him is gonna worsen d case, she should encourage him and pray for/with him. marriage ain't beans, always prepare for d worst and STUDY ur bf/gf b4 marriage.

People will go to a pharmacy self medicate and conclude that they sort medical help and it didn't work. What exactly did they do medically? Medical help is beyond swallowing drugs someone suggests it's comprehensive tests.

They should see a qualified urologists and carry out extensive tests God forbid that it's a major illness like prostrate cancer because it's known to affect young people these days.
Also like has been suggested less water and alcohol or none self after 7pm.
Don't listen to those who will drag you from prayer house to prayer house claiming it's a spiritual problem let them get extensive tests and know what isbwrong first
