Nwanne I tire oo.

All of them did great from Ngige to Obi and now Obiano who is taking Anambra to a whole new greater level.

Today Anambra is usually number ONE in any positive development/news in Nigeria thanks to Ngige, Obi and Obiano.

Exactly, i really don't know what these guys are driving at, always comparing irrelevancies.

Nwanna those of us on ground don't need any Nairalander to tell us what we have experienced from our past Governors even the much taunted Mbadinuju still had areas he got right.

But for someone (freeglobe) to say that Agulu Lake Hotel was a misplaced priority because of ideological differences speaks volume of the level of his objectivity. In his haste to castigate Peter Obi he forgot that the area the hotel is sited falls within Awka capital territory!

Like someone has rightly said all previous administrarions have contributed their quota all we need do is to support current government to better the lot
cjrane:

I am not a Peter Obi fan and searching my previous posts will prove it. However, I will always beg to differ when i hear the word "Fail" used to describe Peter Obi's era.
No matter how much that lie is told, it will continue to be what it is. A LIE.
I don't know if siting the hotel in Agulu was a sound decision, i also don't know if having the Park and Habour roads as the only dual carriage roads he did was a smart idea so that he would build more kilometers of road elsewhere. What i know is that Peter Obi did not fail in Anambra.

Thankfully, i am old enough to recall what used to be known as Anambra state and what it has become. I remember when Anambra people were the ONLY south east people flooding Delta State university Abraka begging for even toilet courses and giving millions of naira just to be admitted to any rubbish course because Anambra was the ONLY SE state without a university.I know when Anambra civil servants were squatting in too many dilapidated private buildings in Awka because there was nothing like a workers secretariat in Anambra. I also know when the BEST public hospital in Anambra was the Onitsha general hospital and no state hospital was accredited.I know when in the whole city of Onitsha, ONLY Holy Ghost Hospital (Waterside) could perform safe c-sections and you are sure the woman won't die in the process or shortly after.I know when all public schools in Anambra were a disgrace to what primary or secondary schools were in neighboring Imo state. I know when Anambra people never dreamt about agriculture development because they expected everything they ate to be grown and fed to them by northerners.I know when driving on any state road in Anambra was a monumental bad idea because not only will your car breakdown, the kidnappers were ubiquitous and would grab you immediately to extract ransom from your family.

A lot still needs to be done and i know Peter Obi probably didn't have great dreams for what was possible in Anambra as much as Obiano has already demonstrated. But it will be the greatest deliberate misrepresentation of facts we all witnessed over the years to say he failed.

I don't know your intention, but the above is downright insulting and disrespectful to the teeming competent medical professionals in Anambra. No doubt, there are differences in opinion on who performed best as a governor in Anambra. But in our bid to hype our heroes, we should learn to do so sincerely and not to denigrate the hardworking professionals in the state.

As a matter of fact, Anambra state pay doctors the least salary. There is no serious funding for health in Anambra.

Let's forget the stereotype, I have great Onicha friends who are proudly Ndigbo and wouldn't trade their Igbo identity for Bini, even the Igalas amongst them are fully acculturalised. At least Obi of Onitsha who is the custodian of Onitsha culture is proudly Igbo.

Hahahaha, Nnaa .....onye obula anazo nke ya.

Anambra is still one of the state that is yet to fully implement CONHESS and CONMESS, the medical professionals here are grossly underpaid when compared to what other states are paying. In the rural communities, a lot needs to be done to retain the staff working there and encourage them to reside there as well by upping the allowances and enabling environments.

Things need to step up at the health sector especially in the areas of manpower development and management......building of news structures and renovating them is commendable but then recruiting the required workforce and maintaining them will go a long way in achieving a lot.

Nna ike gwurum oge nwoke mu afu siri na umu nwanyi di ime na anwu anyhow from common cesarean section na Onitsha. Anyway thanks for adding meat to my comment. Hospital is not about having a beautiful well-painted empty building. It is about having competent and adequately motivated manpower, which I'm afraid to say that no governor has made serious effort to address the problem. Anambra state health system is the least funded and the most neglected. This is why private hospitals are booming in the state.

No disrespect meant to the multitude of very good doctors in Onitsha. As a matron that worked in Onitsha for many years, the truth is that Onitsha and Aba had the highest concentration of quacks in the SE. Aba fared slightly better due to the presence of ABSUTH, in which Onitsha had no large hospital that attracted truly qualified consultants to set up in the city until recently. Most of the hospitals you see in Onitsha are owned by MBBS GPs. All the appendectomy, c-section and Hernioraphe they performed were learnt from locum and not real proper residency training.

I once said that my deepest regret about Ngige was that he neglected Onitsha general hospital despite being a doctor himself, and i meant every word of it because I was there and witnessed it first hand. Obi did limited renovation work which helped us regain accreditation and his icing contribution to healthcare is that he built a tertiary teaching hospital in Awka. That hospital has since attracted highly qualified doctors to Anambra state, just as NAUTH attracted qualified doctors around Nnewi area. Although Peter Obi could have really transformed the general hospital, Onitsha by using the multi-millions of naira donated to Mission hospitals to build multi-storey wards like 200 bedded ward at UNTH or even multi-storey wards to upgrade it into a Anambra State Specialist Hospital, Onitsha. Which could have transformed the hospital and increased its capacity to admit a lot of patients, perform more advanced surgical operations and boost revenue.

No doubt! There are quacks everywhere, even in Enugu (where you will get the highest concentration of consultants and specialist), but to single out Onitsha and Aba is rather unfair. There are more herbalists masquerading as doctors in Owerri. There are fewer specialists in Onitsha because our people cannot afford to pay their exorbitant fee. How many of Onitsha residents can pay #150K for appendectomy?
Besides, being a specialist does not guarantee mastery and dexterity in many surgical procedures. Visit UNTH and NAUTH to see many senior registers in surgery that cannot do lumpectomy, or consultants that are still learners. My boss friend is a consultant urologist at General hospital Onitsha. He has done many failed hydrocoelectomies. Many of them visit my boss hospital at Fegge for a repeat surgery. Don't be deceived, there are many truly gifted GPs in Onitsha. We know them.

Like I said earlier, no governor made serious effort to fund health sector in Anambra. Peter Obi did slightly better than Ngige by upgrading few infrastructures. He did not make any serious attempt to attract highly qualified medical personnel to the state by inducing them with incentives and improved pay package plus better working environment, just like Dr Sam Egwu did in Ebonyi.

That it why things like health insurance should exist in Nigeria.... If I had insurance I won't worry about 150k for appendectomy.

Good job! This should be the remodeled St. Charles hospital Onitsha. We are seeing more investment in health sector. Onitsha General hospital is undergoing transformation too. ANSUTH is in Awka, NAUTH is at Nnewi and St. Charles and a Specialist Hospital in Onitsha. The development in health sector is evenly well spread.

On a side note, Onitsha General hospital is being transformed into a Specialist Hospital by Obiano and it will come with a Helipad/Heliport.

Beautiful contributions we make here, but please let keep the divisive comments to a minimum.
Some contributions are just too childish and careless. ..This thread is a window to Anambra especially for someone wishing to Invest or Visit.
Chances are that some of the foreign investers currently investing in Anambra have visited this thread. The impression we leave here matters alot.
