Ibnsultan:bros let us upgrade our defence industry and give them the necessary R & D capability we seriously need to start churning out indigenous systems that can compete favourably with international standard take for example the leopard ACV by proforce haven't you seen it, its light and fast with a machine gun turret at the top this are nigerian made products that we need to develope on. The leopard could be used for urban patrol, border patrol and even VIP escort ( since we love our VIP so much) by the mobile police force and our joint task force. We keep hearing we need mraps! we need mraps! Why did the army not sign a deal with proforce to work together in producing this things, what about airdefence systems sign a joint contract with NASDRA after all works are on going at the space lift and propulsion center at Epe. Let us focus on creativity the production of the light trainer aircraft by the airforce institute of technology have been stalled now because of funds when a bill is sitting in the national assembly waiting to be signed a bill that is supposed to empower our own AFIT to global competitiveness by making it an institution of its own, so that it can seek funds on its own sign bilateral partnership and sponsor its own project with its budget ( right now it draws from the airforce budget) so this are things that i have seen and i think i should speak out on. 1 Like

Ibnsultan:there are better men for the job. 2014 almost gone no 4th generation jet in sight, no known upgrade to our Gulma drones ( and we had the gut to send cash to SA to buy their seeker drone )no new defence contract, no navy frigate in sight, no good news from dicon ( it is painful to note that among the shoplist for our butched deal with the south Africans was : fnfal rifle, helmet sets, and some other gadgets that dicon had in its production line)maybe Dicon is failing already we wont know, where are the RPG7 they where working on that had scope, where are the artillery systems they fabricated, where are the GPMG's they told us about, when do we start fielding them? |
Re: UPDATE: NAF Bombing Boko Haram's Main Base In NE Now by overhypedsteve(m): 5:57pm On Oct 10, 2014 |
enomakos:chai see funny question, no its made in Sudan. You can visit their factory in ogun state, Yes it is made in Nigeria start to finish, they also make drones and gun boats, but our government have showed not to patronize them fully, they are the future of west Africa and indeed central Africa defence industry. |

Ibnsultan:I like that poster's thinking too. Ideally, DICON should be producing all our warfare weapons, including fighter jets and attack-helicopters. Nigeria is blessed with many aeronautical engineers whom the FG could engage in the production of the jets. |

gidjah:they where being sarcastic, yes its not a toy and i agree with you backed by evidence that that plane is a disaster on the loose, some even call it flying coffin, Hedima our gallant man lost his life because he was using one of those to play a role it was never meant for. |
Re: UPDATE: NAF Bombing Boko Haram's Main Base In NE Now by overhypedsteve(m): 7:10pm On Oct 10, 2014 |
CFCfan:thank you, i think for now we may have to convene all our fabrication experts, mechanical engineers, our experts at Nasdra and Afit. We need to convene them and tell them to start working seriously toward the local fabrication of a jet engine( i believe this is one area where even countries like China, Iran, Japan and Korea are having problem) the airforce should give them their specifications i.e. This is what we want, this is how we want it, this is why we want it. The company that is able to present exactly what the airforce want will be awarded the contract and empowered for mass production, that's how Bae, Lockheed martins, Boeing, GMC of America compete to get defence contract. That way there will be competitive competence, sustainability, skills transfer at the expense of the private companies, take for example if we sign a contract with proforce to produce MRAPS its now their duty to provide for the foreign training of their staffs on how to weld armoured metals, how to work with armoured glass and how to effectively screw up and weld joints without leaving any weak points 1 Like |

CFCfan:just like you said, expertise and talents are lying in waste in our dear country, take for example ajaokuta steel company should be empowered for the smelting of armoured metals and building of engine blocks, our boys building spare parts in the east are not to be left out send them out for training everybody should be carried along in this Grassroot reformation plan ( GRP ) our army engineering corps should recruit more engineers and embark in the construction garrisons across our very porous border with our fraudulent neighbour at least everybody should be working, everybody should be busy everyday building a nation that our kids can be proud of, abi you guys want your kids to go through all this things we went through growing up in nigeria? 1 Like |

Cannonleo:My brother, sorry to disappoint you but the Nigerian airforce as it stands have only a few operational fighter jets as it is right now. A couple of alpha jets of which one 'crashed' and a few F7s. The airforce need to procure birds period. Let's stop lying to ourselves. |

CFCfan: overhypedsteve:You guys are cracking jokes!! Design and build military fighter jets in Nigeria?? Ordinary electricity, PHCN cannot even generate/distribute 24x7x365 days, or talk less of even building a motorcycle engine here and you are dreaming this big about high precision jet engines?? Mama Ngozi, please one more round of pepe-soup and chilled stout for my friends here 1 Like |

namuguibe:thanks for the drink but i think i will pass. Listen up fella! Necessity is the mother of inventions, when human societies realise the need for something and they do not go all out to find a way of either acquiring that thing or making it for themselves then there is a problem. Who said we cant be making high voltage transformers here in Nigeria, who said we cannot fabricate our own power plants, who said in the rail aspect we cannot be building carriages and rail lines for ourselves we can but we wont why because i don't know. |
Re: UPDATE: NAF Bombing Boko Haram's Main Base In NE Now by namuguibe(m): 6:49am On Oct 11, 2014 |
overhypedsteve:I agree with your statements and your thinking. I however like to taper my dreams with reality. We are yet to produce anything hi-tech in Nigeria. A good starting point would be reliable uninterrupted electricity in our most strategic metro cities. Then we can move on to the next grandiose plan of building jet engines. It's not a knock on our technical know-how, as I am certain that there are Nigerian engineers that have designed the US Military planes.. but alas we have so many problems ... |
