No less than 50 unqualified graduates have been nabbed, so says the National Youth Service Corp.

According to the outfit, these candidates were nabbed in their attempt to register for the Batch B Stream II exercise with fake certificates

This was confirmed by the outfit on Friday.

The youth corps said the verification of the credentials of all corps members was on in the 37 orientation camps across the country, warning that unqualified graduates would not just be fished out but duly prosecuted.

The Director of Press and Public Relations of the outfit, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi confirmed the incidence on Friday, adding that they had now been handed over to the police.

Adeyemi, in a statement, noted that the NYSC Director-General, Brig Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, warned that those not qualified would no longer pass through the scheme.

She said,

“The NYSC is committed to stemming the tide of fraudulent mobilisation of unqualified home-based and foreign-trained Nigerians, especially those purported to have graduated from unaccredited universities in the West African sub-region.

“The verification of credentials of all corps members currently in the 37 orientation camps across the country is still ongoing. As of date, over 50 unqualified graduates from different institutions of higher learning have been decamped from the 2019 Batch B Stream II NYSC Orientation Camps and handed over to law enforcement agencies for prosecution

Celebrities / Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s Account Hacked by 1Ebiscoo: 7:55am On Aug 31, 2019
Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey experienced a major security breach affecting his Twitter account in the late hours of Friday, August 30th, as his account was briefly taken over by a group of hackers known as the Chuckling Squad .

Offensive tweets which include racial slurs, antisemitic messages and at least one Holocaust denial were tweeted out by the hackers in 10 minutes of being in control of Dorsey's account. Jack Dorsey's unauthorized tweets were broadcast to more than 4 million users and sent Twitter into a frenzy, with many actively tagging Twitter Security and Twitter Communications, hoping to alert them to the problem.

Few minutes after the hack, Twitter tweeted that “the account is now secure, and there is no indication that Twitter’s systems have been compromised.”

Dorsey’s cell carrier reportedly gave the hackers control of the account. Twitter said that “the phone number associated with the account was compromised due to security oversight by the mobile provider,” which apparently allowed the hackers to send the tweets using text messages.

Politics / FG Discovers High Quality Platinum Mineral In Niger by 1Ebiscoo: 7:06pm On Apr 08, 2019
The Federal Government say it has discovered high quality of platinum group elements in a village in Niger.

Alhaji Abubakar Bwari, the Minister of State, Mines and Steel Development, announced this on Monday at the groundbreaking ceremony of AG Vision Mining Site in Suleja Local Government Area of the state.

Bwari said that the large mineral deposit was discovered at Kuchiko village in Suleja.

He added that the quality of the discovery was higher than that of South Africa, regarded as the highest deposit of the mineral in the world.

“A preliminary report by the company shows high deposit of minerals we are looking for.

“From what we have seen, the results are quite encouraging. The platinum group they have seen so far, the quality we have is higher than that of South Africa. And they are world largest producer of platinum group metal.

“That goes to show that Nigeria is highly endowed with this mineral. But what we are looking for now is the commercial viability of the mineral,’’ he said.

He said that the discovery was made by AG Vision Mining, awarded the exploration project in 2018.

He said that the Federal Government had earmarked N15 billion for exploration of minerals in Nigeria to generate detailed geoscience data of quality and quantity of available minerals in the country.

He said the project aimed at addressing one of the key challenges in the development of the solid minerals sector, which was the absence of bankable mineral data.

“No investor will take us seriously if we are unable to provide the kind of accurate, verifiable data that speaks to both the quality of mineral we have in Nigeria.

“This project is the biggest exploration activity of its kind ever embarked upon by the ministry,” he said.

According to him, the project is domiciled in the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) and it is being supervised by the MMSD, it is also funded through the Natural Resources Fund.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the N15 billion was drawn from the Natural Resource Development Fund to the ministry as intervention fund to focus on exploration which is the heart of mining.

He said that the project was designed to be executed and funded in phases, from the desktop studies, geological mapping among others.

The state minister said that all exploration companies and consultants handling exploration projects should provide reports at the end of each project phase.

“The objective of the project is not limited to the generation of detailed geoscience information like ore reserves, mineral occurrences, discovery and reporting of new minerals, quality and grade of ore and minerals.

“The objective is to also improve the geological knowledge of the locality, generate wealth and employment along value chain; the outcome of the project will be used for policy and research purpose.”

Dr Abubakar Mua’zu, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry said that the project was timely as it would attract more mining investors into the country.

Dr Abdulrazak Garba, the Director-General, Nigeria Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) said the project was initiated to bridge the gap between exploration data and mining development.

Garba said the project was also designed to know locations of minerals such as gold, lead and zinc, silver, copper, tantalite among others in Nigeria.

Mr Fadi Ghazale, the Managing-Director, AG Vision Mining said the event was another landmark in the roadmap towards development of Nigeria’s solid minerals industry.

According to Ghazale, AG vision mining is currently exploring in many states, such as Niger, Ogun and Oyo states. (NAN)

Crime / 11 Killed, 43 Injured In Maiduguri Twin Bomb Blast by 1Ebiscoo: 9:51am On Apr 08, 2019
Eleven people were yesterday confirmed dead and 43 others injured in a twin bomb blast on the outskirts of Maiduguri, Borno State Capital.

At the blast scene, Daily Trust gathered from witnesses that two teenage girls suspected to be Boko Haram suicide bombers, had walked through a street of Muna, five kilometres away from the metropolis.

“Not knowing that they would later turn out to be Boko Haram girls, I really saw them walking along a street nearby. I even wanted to help them out, thinking both girls who looked like strangers were looking for a house where a wedding ceremony was taking place.

“But shortly after, I just heard an explosion which turned out to be from those two girls I had just passed by 20 minutes earlier, they were suicide bombers. I could have been their first victim,” one of the witnesses said in his Shuwa-Arab language.

The national and state emergency agencies, after the evacuation of the victims, placed the death toll at five while a civilian JTF personnel, who participated in the exercise, said they had evacuated eight corpses; while three out of the injured ones died at the hospital.

The NEMA’s spokesman in Maiduguri, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, in a statement yesterday, said: “Emergency response teams have confirmed that two female PBIED carriers detonated their explosives within five minutes interval at Muna-Dalti settlement yesterday evening (6/4/2019).

“As a result, three persons died and two bombers while close to 41 others sustained various degrees of injuries. The injured are currently receiving medical treatment at General Hospital Maiduguri.”

His SEMA counterpart, Usman Kachalla, said: “We have evacuated the wounded to the Specialist Hospital but unfortunately three persons dead at the spot (excluding the bombers) and 46 other are receiving medical attention at State Specialist Hospital.”

Politics / NASS Leadership: Progressive Youths Make Case For Goje by 1Ebiscoo: 7:55am On Apr 06, 2019
Youths, under the auspices of the North-East Progressive Youth Forum (PYF), have stated that with the wealth of experience, track record and influence in the legislature, Senator Danjuma Goje is best suited for the Senate Presidency in the 9th National Assembly.

The forum furthered canvassed that for equity, the six geopolitical zones should be ably represented with the senate presidency zoned to the North East and be filled by Sen Goje.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, the forum, through its chairman, Rimam Tsokwa, urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to critically look at the credentials of each contender, insisting that as Asiwaju is to the South West, so was Sen Goje to the North East.

“We have six geopolitical zones and six key positions ranging from the office of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria down to the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives. For equity, justice and fair play, each of the six geopolitical zones should be ably represented.

“The president is from the North West, the vice president is from the South West, the senate president zoned to North East, while the three zones, that is, North Central, South South, South East deserve the distribution of the under listed offices, deputy senate president, speaker to the South West leaving North Central, South South and South East out of the zoning arrangement.

“We urge the party to look at the roles of each of the contenders and deduce who among them will be a better leader. It is not in doubt that, all party leaders are important, but we also know that some party leaders are more important than others. A closer look at their individual contributions and influence in the zone shows that Goje is to APC in the North East what Tinubu is to APC in the South West.

Crime / 50 Civilian JTF, Others Killed In Zamfara — Speaker by 1Ebiscoo: 11:43pm On Apr 05, 2019
The Speaker of the Zamfara State House Assembly, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji, on Friday said no fewer than 50 persons including members of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were killed in Zamfara on Tuesday.

Rikiji, who revealed this during a condolence visit to Kaura Namoda emirate, attributed the incidence to CJTF confrontation with bandits in a community in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of the state.

The Speaker, who led the state government delegation on the visit, decried the worsening security situation in the state.

“We were told that the members of Civilian JTF have mobilised people from Sakajiki community in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area and confronted the bandits in the forest which led to the killing of over 50 persons including members of CJTF,” he said.

Rikiji, who is the Chairman of the State Government Relief and Damage Assessment Committee, described the act of the CJTF as unprofessional, saying ”confronting the bandits is not the duty of CJTF members.

“Their duty is to support security personnel to carryout operations not to lead operations; only security agents have the right to organise operation to confront bandits,” he added.

He urged traditional rulers in the state to caution CJTF members in their respective domain to avoid taking laws into theirs hands.

“This is the directive from governor Abdul’aziz Yari that CJTF members should not confront bandits again; let them cooperate with the security personnel.

“We have already received the list of the number of the deceased and other affected victims from the local government Chairman aimed at assisting them.

“The state government would provide assistance to the families of the deceased and other victims of the incident very soon,” he added.

Responding, the emir of Kaura Namoda, Alhaji Muhammad Asha, thanked the state government for the gesture and assured of his palace’s continued support and cooperation with government to address the problem.

He said the emirate had embarked on special prayers to seek Allah’s intervention over the security challenges in the state.

“We have already mobilised our Imams of Jumu’at Mosque and Ulamas to offer special prayers in this regard during Jumu’at prayers,” the emir said.

The Chairman of the council, Alhaji Lawal Abdullahi, thanked the state government for the assistance to the victims.

Abdullahi assured of the council’s continued support to the state and federal government in fighting insecurity in the area and the state.

Politics / FG To Equip More Than 11,000 Youths On Job Skills — Osinbajo by 1Ebiscoo: 3:41pm On Apr 05, 2019
The Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, says the Federal Government will do all that is necessary to ensure that the capacities of Nigerian youth are developed and fully utilised.

Osinbajo said this in Abuja on Thursday at the closing ceremony of the National Industrial Skills Development Programme (NISDP) where more than 11,000 youth were equipped with start-up packs by Industrial Training Fund (ITF).

He was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha.

“This event is an outcome of the policy thrust of the present administration, which is anchored on revamping the economy, fighting corruption, reduction of poverty and the creation of jobs for the teeming unemployed Nigerians.

“Today, I can say without equivocation that close to four years of this administration, we have achieved most of these targets through the implementation of social investment programmes like N-Power and Trader Money.

“Also we achieved the full implementation of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP), which have had varied impact on all sectors of the National Economy,’’ he said.

Osinbajo said that the greatest challenge of the administration was harnessing the potential of the youthful population for them to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the National economy as entrepreneurs or as employees.

He noted that the “United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) has projected that by year 2050, Nigeria’s population will hit 500 million.

“When tied with the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) estimates that over 26 million Nigerians are unemployed despite the numerous initiatives of the Federal Government, it became obvious that more needed to be done,’’ he said.

Osinbajo encouraged hitherto comatose parastatal agencies with mandates for skills acquisition to train Nigerians as a pathway to job creation and poverty reduction by equipping them with entrepreneurial and employability skills.

According to him, one agency that has been at the forefront of this charge is the Industrial Training Fund (ITF).

He said that apart from the graduation of more than 11,000 trainees, the agency in the last two years trained over 450,000 Nigerians and empowered them with start-up packs to start their own businesses.

Mr Joseph Ari, Director-General of the fund, said that trainees were trained in welding and fabrication, plumbing and pipe-fitting, tailoring, aluminium, tiling, Plaster of Paris (POP) installation as well as photography.

According to him, the fund monitoring and evaluation template indicate that where training occurs without the accompanying empowerment tools, the results become less impactful.

Ari said that bearing such in mind, ITF decided to empower all beneficiaries of its skills acquisition programmes with start-up kits.

“Surveys have revealed that in all cases where the trainees were provided with the kits, more than 90 per cent earned reasonable livelihood as entrepreneurs.

“It is our conviction that training the youth and women without equipping them, defeats the core objective of the programme and the policy of the present administration to create wealth and grow the economy,’’ he said.

Ari said that fund had put in place some skills in order to fill the skills gaps identified by the ITF and United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) Survey.

He said the fund’s target for 2019 was to equip Nigerians with lifelong skills in the agriculture, construction, transport and services sectors that were identified by the survey to have great potential for job creation.

Sen. Sam Egwu, Chairman, Senate Committee on Industry, said that it was not enough to have start-up kits without fund to start the business.

Egwu said that most of the trainees were not in business because of the lack of funds.

He suggested that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Bank of Industry should be able to give the trainees some loan or grants to put their skills to use.

“After training, some form of money should be given to the trainees to achieve their objective of the programme,’’ he said.

He called on the Federal Government to do more by involving the necessary agencies to give little assistance to the trainees because ITF had done its part.

Egwu said that the Senate was ready to support the programme by passing the necessary bills.

A medical doctor said to be working with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Dr Stephen Urueye, has been reported killed by armed thugs at Idi Araba area of Lagos.

The victim was one of the graduates from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) who participated in the school’s convocation held on Wednesday in Akoka.

However, the Lagos State Police Command has yet to confirm the incident.

Sources close to Urueye told Channels Television on Friday that he was rushed to the emergency wing of LUTH on Thursday night after the attack.

Following the news of his death, some students of the university staged a peaceful protest at Idi Araba to condemn the killing.

The protesters took to the streets in the area, carrying placards with various inscriptions and calling for justice for the victim.

They alleged that Idi-Araba has been overtaken by armed thugs and called on relevant agencies to beef up security in the area.

Politics / Onnoghen: The Monies I Received Were Gifts For My Daughter's Wedding, Not Bribe by 1Ebiscoo: 8:59pm On Apr 04, 2019
Walter Onnoghen, the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), says some money paid into his account sometime in 2015 were gifts for his daughter’s wedding, and not bribe as alleged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a petition filed before the National Judicial Council (NJC), at its sitting on Wednesday, EFCC had alleged that Onnoghen received money in his account in 2015, alleging that the money was paid to influence the cases before the Supreme Court, at the time Onnoghen was on the Supreme Court panel.

However, in a written address submitted by the counsel to the respondent listed as follows R.A. Lawal-Rabana, SAN; Okon Nkanu Efut, SAN; J.U.K. Igwe, SAN; George Ibrahim, Esq; Victoria Agi, Esq; Orji Ude Ekumankama, Esq; Opeyemi Origunloye, Esq; Temitayo Fiki, Esq, which was scheduled for Service on Rotimi Oyedepo, the counsel to the EFCC, Onnoghen denied the allegation, stating that the money constituted gifts for his daughter’s wedding, in line with custom.

Under the title, ‘Alleged Receipt of Pecuniary Gifts’, Onnoghen’s defence read: “In paragraph (iii) at page 2 of its second petition dated 5th March 2019, the petitioner alleged that His Lordship received pecuniary gifts from the following and on the following dates: Ogunsanya Adewunmi: N250,000 (22/5/15); Paul Usoro (SAN): N350,000 (22/4/15); Emeka Etiaba (SAN): N250,000 (19/5/15); Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN): N300,00 (19/5/15); Eze Duru Iheoma (SAN): N100,000 (6/03/15)

“In his evidence-In-Chief, the Respondent explained that the gifts were made at a time of the marriage ceremony of his first daughter, Oremini Nkanu Onnoghen who got married sometime in 2015. It was not solicited and remains a part and parcel of the customs and traditions of the people. His Lordship tendered a copy of the wedding invitation which was admitted in evidence without objection by the petitioner as Exhibit R9.

“The Panel will observe that all the gifts of N250,000, N350,000, N250,000, N300,000 and N100,000 respectively were made within the period of the wedding shown in exhibit R9. From the evidence of the petitioner/prosecution itself, there were no other payments made by those persons or by any other lawyer into the account of the Respondent prior to or after the said period of the wedding of the daughter.

“Accordingly, no misconduct can be seen or inferred from the unsolicited customary gifts said to be given to His Lordship. It had nothing to do with the discharge of his duties as a judicial offer. By Rule 13.5(2) of the Revised Code of Conduct For Judicial officers (Published February, 2016) a judicial office is permitted to accept – (i) Personal gifts or benefits from relatives or personal friends to such extent and on such occasions as are recognized by custom.

“The statements of three of the persons alleged to have given the gifts which they made to the EFCC are before this Committee. Nothing in them shows that the gifts were meant to bribe or induce His Lordship in the performance of his duties as a judicial officer. Nothing before this Committee contradicted the statements. It ought to be accepted as the true facts.”

Politics / 60% Of North West, North East Live In Extreme Poverty – Dangote by 1Ebiscoo: 2:51pm On Apr 04, 2019
Africa’s richest man and president of the Dangote group, Aliko Dangote has challenged northern leaders to wake up from their lethargy and provide leadership that will lift the region from extreme poverty and wants.

In a keynote address at the fourth edition of the Kaduna Investment Summit in Kaduna, Dangote said the investment needed to generate employment can only be provided by private investors and called on state government in the region to provide the enabling environment to attract investors to the region.

He said if the 19 northern states had 10 governors in the mold of Nasir El Rufai’s, the region would be on the path to greatness

According to him, with the right investment in Agriculture, the north will be an oasis of prosperity adding that there is no country with such fertile and arable land that has the level of poverty witnessed in the north.

“Nigeria is bedevilled with many developmental challenges but with abundant capital, human and natural resources. Our country human developmental indicators rank poorly when compared with h global averages. Nigeria is ranked at 157 out of 189 countries in the areas of human development index.

“While the over all social economic considerations in the country is a cause for concern, the regional imperative are infact very alarming. In the north western and North eastern part of Nigeria, more than 60% of the population live in extreme poverty. It is instructive to know that the 19 northern states which account for over 54% of the country’s population and 70% of its landmass collectively generated only 21% of the total sub national internally Generated Revenue in 2017.

“Northern Nigeria will continue to fall behind if respective state governments do not move to close the development gap and that is why we are always saying that the biggest challenge we have and what We are always praying for is to have ten governors like Mallam Nasir El Rufai’s.

“Closing this gap requires multi layer investment and government will not be able to muster the needed funds. Only private sector can raise the amount of capital require to find the kind of investment required. Government must create a conducive environment that will trigger a huge inflow mof private capital into the private sector of the economy. Private investment will create jobs and will go Long way to erase the challenge of unemployment and poverty. As more people get employed, you will notice a sharp decline in some of the social vices now prevalent in our society. Kaduna State is a shining example of this. While several states are taking steps in this direction, only a few like Kaduna are making visible progress.

“As the capital of the former northern region, Kaduna continues to lead on several matrix. Kaduna currently has the highest WAEC pass rate in the north and second highest IGR generation in the northern part of the region after Kano” he noted.

On the way forward for the region, Dangote called on the 19 northern states to identify areas of comparative advantage and provide information and data on the opportunities available in their states in order to attract private sector investors.

“As private sector investment propels an upsurge in economic activities, the financial viability of state governments will also improve. State governments will have more money to invest in human capital development and the rampant cases of insecurity as we have it now will subside. The north must focus on harnessing it’s massive agric potentials in terms of both production and processing.

No region with such agricukture potentials should be this poor. We have what it takes to turn around our fortunes and I pray all the19 governors of the northern states will wake up and follow the foot steps of Kaduna State government. Given the vast tracts of arable land and conducive condition, I think in the next ten years, Agriculture can generate more revenue and prosperity than oil that we have now if we have the right commitment” he said.

He said the Dangote Group is ready to partner with any state government that creates enabling environment for investment in the state

Politics / Buhari Accuses National Assembly Of Padding, Declines Assent To 8 Bills by 1Ebiscoo: 8:44am On Apr 03, 2019
Again, President Muhammadu Buhari has accused the National Assembly of hugely padding debt figures to be repaid by the Federal Government to some states in the country after he declined to assent the Ajaokuta bill and seven others.

While his message was read to senators by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, at Tuesday’s plenary, the president specifically accused the National Assembly of raising the debt repayment figure to Delta and Taraba states by N12 billion; from the original N78 billion, to N90 billion.

However, Buhari asked the lawmakers to send details of the amounts they approved for the two states, as well as the figures approved for payment by the Federal Executive Council (FEC); when it was sent to the National Assembly for approval.

He said; “I wish to inform the Senate that we have received the approval of the National Assembly via letter referenced NASS/CNA/106/volume11/004, dated January 29, for refunds to Delta and Taraba states; through the issuance of a promissory note for projects executed on behalf of the federal government.

“In view of the approval of the National Assembly, the following was observed: While FEC approved N78 billion (78,601,631,430.16), as reimbursement to Delta and Taraba state governments, National Assembly approved N90 billion (90,236,461,031.36); which is higher than the amount approved by FEC.

“The National Assembly did not approve any reimbursement to Bauchi and Kogi states governments whereas FEC approved reimbursement for them.”

Buhari also reminded the lawmakers of the provisions of the Public Procurement Act (2007), which empowers the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) to approve contract.

“Since the BPP is charged with the responsibility of approving contractual sums when there is a need for compliance with the Public Procurement Act, 2007, I wish to request that you forward to us details relating to the amount approved by the National Assembly for Delta and Taraba states, in essence of what certified by the BPP, for necessary certification approval.

“Meanwhile, the federal government shall proceed with the implementation by reimbursing the amount approved by FEC. Furthermore, I wish to suggest that you review the reimbursement in favour of Bauchi and Kogi state governments; while looking forward to timely consideration of the request,” he said.
