The Returning Officer in the Osun State governorship election, Prof Joseph Fuwape, has advised the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, “to seek redress in court if you have noticed any errors in the results already announced.”

Backing the Returning Officer, agents the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Conscience Party, NCP, and other parties told the aggrieved Adeleke to take his case to the tribunal for redress.

Meanwhile, INEC has declared Gboyega Oyetola winner of the poll.

Politics2019: House C’ttee Seeks Deregistration Of Gender ‘insensitive’ Political Partie by 1Ebiscoo(op): 1:29am On Sep 28, 2018
The House Committee on Electoral and Political Matters has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister what it described as gender ‘insensitive’ political parties as the country approaches the 2019 general elections. The committee quoted section 40 of the 1999 constitution as amended, which guarantees that every person shall be entitled to assemble freely and associate with other persons, and in particular, the person may form or belong to any political party, trade union or any other association for the protection of his or her interest, to backup their claims.

It expressed worry that political interests in Nigeria have been tilted towards men, adding that Nigeria has been left behind in the African continent when it comes to women participation. Speaking at the ongoing workshop on INEC’s role in enhancing women’s participation in the electoral process, tagged: “Creating Synergy Amongst Women Politicians, Scholars and Activists,” the chairperson of the House Committee on Electoral and Political Party Matters, Hon Aisha Jibril Dukku, said women might boycott future elections if the electoral umpire, political parties, and stakeholders failed to implement gender sensitive policies.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should adopt the policy of deregistering any political party that failed to adhere with the gender policy,” she said, insisting that women might boycott future elections because Nigeria’s politics is male dominated. According to her, women participation in politics should be seen as performing their human right adding that it will be meaningful if the process is just. “Political interest is tilted towards men,” she said adding that it might cause a revolt in future elections since men cannot take care of women’s needs adequately on electoral matters. She decried decrease in the number of women participating in Nigerian politics, adding that they are the least in Africa. “Political participation as one of the key elements of democracy provides the justification for inclusion of maginalised groups such as women and youth in electoral competition.

Participation of women in politics will be meaningful only if the process is just, fair, permissive and a level playing ground is guaranteed for possible ascension of women politically,” she said. She said: “The National Assembly in 1999 had three (2.8 per cent) female senators and 12 (3.3 per cent) House of representatives members. In 2003, four (3.7 per cent) female senators and 21 (5.8 per cent) female members of the House of Representatives were elected into the Assembly. In 2007 the National Assembly had nine (8.3 per cent) female senators and 26 (7.2 per cent) female members of the House of Representatives. In 2011, the National Assembly had seven (6.4 per cent) female senators and 25 (6.9 percent) female House of Representatives.

In 2015, the National Assembly had seven (6.4 per cent) female Senators and 22 (5.2 per cent) female members in the House of Representatives, which represents Nigeria as gender insensitive country when it comes to women political participation.” She advocated that Nigeria should adopt the Senegal model where the deputy to a candidate in any elective position comes from the opposite sex. “Today, five out of the top 15 countries with the highest number of female representation are African. Rwanda (64per cent), Senegal (42.7 per cent), South Africa (41.7 per cent), Namibia (41.3 per cent) and Mozambique (39.6 per cent).

It is clear that Nigeria is far behind in female representation in Africa. The Independent National Electoral Commission should adopt the policy of deregistrating any political party that failed to adhere with the gender policy,” Aisha recommended. Meanwhile, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof Mahmood Yakubu who also lend his voice in the debate, said countries with higher levels of women’s participation and leadership in political and electoral processes tend to be more inclusive, responsive, egalitarian and democratic.

The Senator representing Kaduna Central at the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has stated what his political party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, must do, if it must win the governorship rerun election in Osun State.

PoliticsAPC Vs PDP: Presidency Fires Back At Saraki Over Attacks On Buhari by 1Ebiscoo(op): 7:09am On Sep 21, 2018
The Presidency has condemned and described as crude and extremely derogatory speeches hitting the news and credited to Sen. Bukola Saraki against President Muhammadu Buhari.

Saraki, who recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is one of the PDP presidential aspirants.

Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity made the condemnation in a statement in Abuja on Thursday.

He, therefore, enjoined all groups and supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari’s candidature in 2019 presidential election to always ignore the offensive speeches by the PDP aspirant.

Shehu urged them to always put their points in more decent language and display maturity instead of joining issues with him.

The statement reads: “The Presidency wishes to react to the crude speeches hitting the news from Senator Bukola Saraki who recently joined the Peoples Democratic Party with the sole ambition of running as the president of Nigeria.

“In response to the condemnable and extremely derogatory speeches by the PDP aspirant, we urge all Buhari supporters to display restraint in language and conduct and to always put across their points of view in a decent language.

“Throughout his political career, Sen. Saraki has shown that he is a very dangerous person who can go any length to promote his personal interests.

“The language of his campaign is such that cannot be used against a domestic help. Is he just knowing that the President lacked vision?

“This is someone that the Senator had worked with very closely for more than three years. Amazingly, he never said all that he is now saying against him.

“Rather, his words for and on the President were always respectful and reassuring. That’s the man he called “My Father,” about him “there is no cause for alarm…a President who is healthy, witty and himself.” What then changed, all of a sudden?

“Is he saying these blatantly false and crude things against the President because he is gunning for the same office? Could it be that he is targeting President Buhari because the party he has just joined does not have any real issues to highlight?

“Be that as it may, our appeal to our supporters is to ignore Saraki and any such politicians bent on lowering the quality of political discourse. Let them drown in their own waters.’’

PoliticsBuhari Is Discriminating Against Christians And Southerners In All His Appointme by 1Ebiscoo(op): 7:26pm On Sep 18, 2018
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has slammed President Muhammadu Buhari with claims that he consistently discriminates against Christians and Southerners with all his appointments and policies.

In a statement released by its national president, Samson Ayokunle, reference was made to the recent appointment of Yusuf Magaji Bichi as the new Director General of the Department of State Security DSS.

The recent appointment of Zainab Ahmed as the acting Minister of Finance, was also frowned upon by CAN.

Part of the statement reads

“CAN notes with disappointments, shocks and surprises that despite our appeal to President Buhari to break the domination of the country’ security council by people of the same religion and language in a multi-religious and multi-ethnic groups that make up Nigeria, he still derives pleasure in turning a deaf ear to the Voice of Wisdom and Reason as manifested in the three appointments.

He appointed Yusuf Magaji Bichi, a Muslim, from Kano state to replace Matthew Seiyefa, a Christian from Bayelsa who had been operating in an acting capacity since Lawal Daura was sacked in Buhari’s absence.

Mr Abbas Umar Masanawa was also named the Managing Director of the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC), just as Hajiya Zainab Ahmed was appointed the acting Finance Minister to replace Mrs Kemi Adeosun who resigned as a result of her failure to participate in the NYSC programme and for parading a forged NYSC Certificate of Exemption.

We wish to place on record, once again, the dangerous and religious discrimination and partiality that have characterized the President Buhari-led administration. We believe the marginalization of the Christians is deliberate to heighten the tension in the land for whatever reasons.”

The body also expressed disappointment at Christians in the Buhari-led administration that remain silent in the face of the marginalization of Christians.

“CAN is also disappointed with the justification of the illegalities being perpetrated by Buhari in the lopsided appointments by the Presidency including a handful Christians in his government who are doing so primarily to keep their jobs, at the expense of the majority. For anyone to be asking all well-meaning Nigerians, including some media houses, to stop complaining of the lopsided appointments in the security apparatus of the country is reprehensible, insensitive, and wicked.” the statement read.

PoliticsICPC, NYSC Stop Investigation Into Kemi Adeosun’s Forged Certificate by 1Ebiscoo(op): 9:17am On Sep 18, 2018
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC, on Monday said that it had stopped investigations into the use of a forged exemption certificate of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, by former Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun.

The ICPC stated this just as the NYSC admitted that it had concluded its investigative report on the matter and submitted it to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for supervision.

Adeosun had tendered her resignation letter on Friday following allegation of forged NYSC certificate against her and subsequently jetted out of Nigeria for the United Kingdom.

Speaking on the matter, the ICPC’s spokesperson, Mrs Rasheedat Okoduwa, confirmed that the commission had stopped investigations on the case.

On why ICPC dropped the case, Okoduwa told Punch “We stepped down the investigation into the matter so as not to duplicate the efforts of another agency which had taken it up.”

However, the ICPC did not specify the agency in follow-up enquiries.

Also, the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, on Monday, said the scheme had submitted its investigation to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for any further action.

She, however, refused to answer further questions concerning the case.

“The report has been submitted to the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development and you can direct all your questions to them,” she added.

PoliticsBiafra: Kanu Cries Out Over Switzerland’s Refusal To Grant Family Members Visa by 1Ebiscoo(op): 10:23am On Sep 11, 2018
The younger brother to the elusive leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, has berated the Embassy of Switzerland in Abuja for allegedly denying travelling visa to members of the family, following an invitation by the United Nations, UN, to the 116th United Nations Human Rights Working Group on Enforced and Involuntary Disappearances.

Kanu’s family members were invited by UN as key witnesses of the mass murder allegedly committed by the Nigerian security operatives when the family compound was invaded on September 14, 2017, during the Operation Python Dance ll conducted by the Nigerian Army.

Speaking, Kanu said apart from the family, “key IPOB members who witnessed the genocide at Afaraukwu were also denied visas.”

In a statement, Kanu accused the Embassy of “conspiracy, collusion and unholy dealings with Abuja to frustrate the family and help the Nigerian state escape punishment.”

He claimed that some “Amazonians fleeing persecutions in the Cameroons were equally denied visa by the Swiss Embassy,” alleging that “it was a clear indication that the Embassy was colluding with oppressive administrations to suppress freedom fighters.”

Kanu decried what he termed “bad faith of the Swiss Embassy in constituting itself to an impediment to the family’s bid to get justice over the unprovoked invasion of the family house and the disappearance of our beloved ones including our parents, Eze Israel Kanu, the traditional ruler of Afaraukwu community and his wife, Lolo Sally Kanu.

“Some of our family members who were invited by the United Nations could not understand why they should be denied visas. Some Amazonians who fled Cameroun to Nigeria who were also invited to the United Nations by this same working group were also denied visas.

“For the fact that you house the world body does not give you the right to deny victims and key eyewitnesses of torture and genocide visas even when the same world body invited them.”

PoliticsI Have No Plans To Islamise Nigeria – Buhari Tells Catholic Bishops by 1Ebiscoo(op): 5:16pm On Sep 10, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari has told Catholic bishops that his administration has no plans to Islamize Nigeria.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), President Buhari said there is no fact to indicate that the present administration was out to Islamize the country.

The president who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, said such religious propaganda has created suspicion, distrust and disharmony in the country.

“There has been a lot of negative propaganda being instigated by outsiders and finds narrative in the church that there is a plan to islamise Nigeria without any credible fact. The issue of membership of Nigeria to OIC, Shariah and farmers/herdsmen clashes had created a lot of suspicion in the minds of the people despite the fact that the problems had existed in the country for several decades.” Buhari said

CelebritiesNicki Minaj Reportedly Won’t Press Charges Over Cardi B’s Shoe Attack by 1Ebiscoo(op): 7:16am On Sep 10, 2018
TMZ has learned that Nicki Minaj is standing pat after coming out the victor in a messy exchange with Cardi B.

According to the report, Nicki isn’t too bothered that Cardi B chomped at the bit, which leads me to believe there’s more to the altercation than meets the eye. Nicki is after all reputed for her vengeful spirit (for all comers).

The botched attack which took place within the walls of a gala event connected to New York Fashion Week, reached its climactic end once Cardi B swung and miss with her shoe.

Her success rate was far superior when she first used her shoe as a weapon. During a LNHH reunion show Cardi B weaponized her shoe for our viewing pleasure.

She and cast member Asia became so consumed with their rivalry, they’d forgotten why they were fighting to begin with. Short answer: cheating allegations & Swift.

Rumor has it that the resulting lump on Cardi B’s forehead didn’t occur when she fell and lost her balance. According to her reps, the BX rapper took an elbow from one of Nicki Minaj’s security guards who reacted almost instinctively to his Queen’s call for help.

Celebrities“i’m Nigerian And There’s Nowhere I’d Rather Be A Citizen Of”- Brymo by 1Ebiscoo(op): 8:11am On Sep 09, 2018
Nigerian singer and songwriter, Olawale Ashimi, popularly known as Brymo, a defunct member of Chocolate City, shares his travel experience in Dubai; his challenges and interests.

He also said he doesn’t like traveling a lot because he likes to spend most of his time in Nigeria. The ‘Ara’ crooner said he is so proud to be a Nigerian and there is no other country he would rather be a citizen of.

Read the full interview below.

How often do you travel?

I travel as often as I can. Because of the nature of my job, I get to move around a lot. I like to travel as a tourist as well; it exposes me to new cultures and places.

What’s your typical time like on the plane when you are flying anywhere?

I love the white wine and movies on the flight; there’s usually an abundance of those on most international flights. I always look forward to rediscovering the movies I’ve seen in the past; seeing the nice movies they have in the in-flight entertainment. Of course, with drinking wine, the aim is not to drink myself to a stupor but I like to drink as much as I can. I really enjoy white wine in the sky.

What was your most recent travel experience?

That was my trip to the UAE, Dubai. It was an exciting experience to see the great Dubai. I was in awe of their magnificent architecture. The place is very beautiful. Knowing the history of the city, it amazed me to see how advanced they are. It was my first time visiting and it was quite a pleasant surprise to see all that the city has to offer. I really would have loved to make friends over there but since I was there for just about three nights, I didn’t have the time.

What was the purpose of the trip?

I was invited to perform at a Nigerian wedding in Dubai sometime at the beginning of the year. It’s almost like Nigerians have the best weddings, even outside the country. It was great that I got to see a bit of the city.

Who paid for it?

As a performer, my trip was sponsored by my host; it was more like an all-expense paid trip. That’s one of the perks of the job. Sometimes, people don’t only enjoy the music, they also want to see the artiste perform and that was the case on this trip. They could go the extra mile to invite them to perform live.

Was it anything like you’d imagined or heard?

The city is without doubt as beautiful as I’d seen in pictures but I must confess, I didn’t expect the heat. It was very hot and I wasn’t prepared for it.

Did you miss Nigeria or were you glad to be away for as long?

Whenever I have to travel for a long period, just like anyone else, I miss home. Personally, I believe no place can be like Nigeria, at least for me. Nigeria is different and I have my roots here. I would travel out of the country to tour, no matter the length of time, but I’ll always come back home. I try to spend the bulk of my time here in Nigeria.

Did you have a memorable experience?

I remember wanting to skydive. I arrived at the place and was even ready to pay for the thrill but at the very last minute, I changed my mind because I panicked a little, and didn’t end up ticking that box.

What can Nigeria learn from Dubai?

Firstly, the infrastructure is different. It’s obvious that the leaders deliberately built the city to attract tourists, which in turn, by the virtue of the tourists spending, is pumping money back into the system. That’s different from a place where the people in power are more interested in taking money from the people rather than from other people to give to its people. I believe that even Nigerians go to Dubai to invest their money. We should learn how to harness our resources so that people from around the world can visit and tap into whatever beauty we’d have created.

Was there a language barrier?

I remember a time at the airport when I needed directions and I asked a lady who was a worker at the airport for help. Unfortunately, I couldn’t speak Arabic and she didn’t understand English. When I spoke to her, she just gawked at me. That honestly frustrated me at the time. I had to walk a distance to look for someone who actually spoke English and could understand what I was saying.

What country do you plan on visiting next?

I’ll be going to the UK soon as I’ve been slated to perform at the O2 Islington in September, and I’m really looking forward to going there. I haven’t been to the UK in five years; so, it’d be a very important trip for me; more so, because it’d be my first headline concert there.

If you weren’t Nigerian, what country would you have wished you were from?

For me, the most important thing is that I’m Nigerian and there’s nowhere I’d rather have been a citizen of. I can’t trade my roots for anywhere else.

Politics2019: What Forced Me Out Of PDP – Donald Duke by 1Ebiscoo(op): 7:48am On Sep 08, 2018
Former Cross River State governor, Donald Duke, on Friday said he joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to run for the office of president in the 2019 election because his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party, had “unconstitutionally” zoned political offices.

He said this in a series of tweets shortly after he submitted his nomination form at the SDP secretariat in Abuja on Friday.

Duke, who said his decision came after deep reflection and candid assessment of the Nigerian polity, condemned zoning of political offices, saying it remained unconstitutional.

The ex-governor further disagreed with those who say that only two political parties have the physical presence nationwide to win the presidency in a general election.

Duke said he hopes his participation would enrich the playing field and offer Nigerians wider options.

He tweeted: “Earlier this week, I made known my intention to join and run for the office of President on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). This afternoon I submitted my nomination forms to the party secretariat.

“This decision was arrived at after deep reflection and candid assessment of our polity. Firstly, my erstwhile party, the PDP has unconstitutionally zoned political offices.

“As rational as they may see it, it remains unconstitutional and there are not enough strong voices out there speaking up objectively. Besides, democracy is all about choice, how then do we limit the choices we have to some section of the country or the other?

“Can we under such aegis obtain the best? Nigeria can only be whole when the sum total of its parts are able to contest freely and at will for the highest office in the land.

“Some folks have espoused that only two parties have the physical presence nationwide to win the presidency in a general election. I disagree. Our fate as Nigerians should not be determined by two underperforming platforms, but rather by we ourselves.

“By joining the race on the platform of the SDP, I hope my participation enriches the playing field and offers Nigerians a wider berth of options other than a zero some playing field of either the APC or the PDP,” Duke said.

PoliticsThugs Invade APC Secretariat, Set Flag Ablaze by 1Ebiscoo(op): 5:58pm On Sep 06, 2018
Residents of Okitipupa in Okitipupa Local Government Area (LGA) of Ondo State, on Thursday, ran for safety as unknown thugs invaded and disrupted activities at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that parts of the secretariat were destroyed by the thugs, setting party flags ablaze and tearing posters of candidates vying for chairmanship, councillorships and ward leaders at the secretariat.

A witness who pleaded for anonymity told NAN that the thugs came in their numbers, besieged the secretariat, singing solidarity songs and disrupted activities as residents in the area scampered for safety.

“Some of the thugs stormed the secretariat to disrupt activities and tear posters of candidates, just as many of the people scampered for safety.

“Their action is unconnected with the alleged mishandling of delegates’ lists and names submitted for Ward positions by some leaders of the party at the state level.’’ The witness said.

Speaking further, the witness said that the thugs warned that there will be no peace during the forthcoming chairmanship and councillorship elections in the local government if the will of the people is not respected.

“They said that until the names submitted at ward levels for the posts are restored and the voice of the people respected, peace will not reign in the forthcoming elections,’’ the witness quoted the thugs as saying.

Meanwhile, the APC Chairman, Okitipupa Local Government Area, Mr Bode Ikulala, who confirmed the incident, told NAN that the list of delegates’ were not out as at the time the incident occurred.

He said that the people concerned should have registered their grievances through appropriate quarters, rather than taking matters into their hands.

“I was in Akure when the incident happened and they told me that some people came to destroy things at the secretariat over an alleged change in delegates’ lists, which have yet to be released, even as we speak.

“Those people are certainly not APC members because if husband and wife have differences, for instance, and the house is destroyed, when they later settle, where will they live?’’ he asked.

However, Ikulala said that the situation would be brought under control as he had already contacted the Police over the matter.

The Ondo state government would be conducting its elections for chairmen and councillors in the 18 LGAs of the state in December.

SportsSerie A: Juventus Defender, Barzargli Speaks On Ronaldo’s Failure To Score Goals by 1Ebiscoo(op): 2:23pm On Sep 05, 2018
Juventus defender, Andrea Barzagli has spoken up on Cristiano Ronaldo’s lack of goals at the club.
Ronaldo is yet to score a competitive goal for Juventus since joining the Italian from Real Madrid earlier this summer.
The 33-year-old scored 450 goals as he helped the Spanish giants win 15 trophies, including the Champions League on four occasions.

The Portuguese has, however, endured a slow start under Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus, failing to bag in wins over Chievo, Lazio and, most recently, Parma.

“We are not worried about the fact that he hasn’t scored,” Barzagli was quoted by Express Sports as saying.

“He is a great champion and it is amazing to train alongside him.

“I think we have a stronger roster than in past seasons but in the end, it is the results that count.”

Ronaldo’s impressive record in the Champions League has seen him touted as the man to end Juventus’ wait for European glory.

Barzagli also believes the former Manchester United winger could make the difference in the Champions League this season.

“Let’s hope, we will work hard,” Barzagli added.

“To win a Champions league is very difficult but we now have Ronaldo who knows how to win finals.

“Let’s see, it won’t be easy, that’s for sure.”
