Politics / Re: The Anambra State Governorship Elections: Between Peter Obi And Willie Obiano by 1people: 11:03pm On Oct 11, 2017
Insulting Obiano won't help the opposition, empty promises won't either!Insulting the hardworking Gov Obiano of Anambra State will not endear the opposition parties to the good people of the State. Also, the trick of dropping empty promises here and there by some candidates and the accompanying razzmatazz will not be of help either.

Ndi Anambra will vote as follows:

1. APGA - What Gov Obiano achieved in just 3.5 years and what he attracted to his people before he became governor.
2. PDP - What Obaze attracted to his people/Anambra for over 40 years in UN and Anambra State Government.
3. APC - What Tony Nwoye achieved for all his years as Federal House Member and what he has attracted to his people as a "Top Politician".
4. UPP - What Chidoka attracted to his people/Anambra for all the years as Head of FRSC and Aviation Minister.

As for CV, educational qualification and managerial experience before the thought of being a governor, Gov Obiano stands above all!
THE OPPOSITION SHOULD STOP ETHUGGERY AND INSULTS AND SHOW US THEIR MANIFESTOS. IN JUST 3.5 YEARS, GOV OBIANO HAS COMPARATIVELY DONE BETTER THAN ALL PAST GOVERNORS TOUCHING EVERY COMMUNITY, EVERY SECTOR AND EVERY NEED.Ndi Anambra will Vote APGA to Keep Willie Working!

Obiano represents the spirit of equity and fairness that will ensure the peaceful transfer of power from Anambra North to Anambra South.
The question is; would Oseloka Obaze or Tony Nwoye be content with just one term in office for equity to reign in the state? The truth is; neither Obaze nor Nwoye would happily hand-over power to anyone else after four years.

Politics / The Battle Between Peter Obi And Willie Obiano(facts) by 1people: 4:40pm On Sep 26, 2017
Emeka Odionu has this report..

DAN ULASI...FMR ANAMBRA STATES PDP'S CHAIRMAN ON CHANNELS TELEVISION..............

"Comparatively ,I doubt if any governor did in three years and six months in Anambra state what Gov Obiano has done.
"Obiano built the longest bridge in south-east across Omambala River and building of a bridge is not done by one naira..........Dan Ulasi.

"AWKA was a glorified local government when OBI was governor, now go to AWKA,you wouldn't know when you pass the city". ..........Dan Ulasi.

"During Obi's tenure, kidnapping ,armed robbery were the other of the day and wine carrying was being done in Lagos but Willie has restored our confidence, gave us security and we can sleep with our eyes closed"......Dan Ulasi.

"In 2010, Ojukwu said that OBI will not go for second term.Ojukwu raised the hand of Emeka Etiaba and Umeh Victor took OBI, went to Ojukwu ,laid on the floor begging Ojukwu to forgive OBI and give him a second chance"..........Dan Ulasi.

"The genesis of the problem in Anambra state between OBI and Obiano is #7b which OBI is demanding from Obiano as the money he used to make him governor.

"Even Joe-Martins Uzodike, the DG of the campaign in 2013 has been saying that.
"Obiano was paying something until he decided to stop because of recession and that's when OBI started fighting him"..........Dan Ulasi

"If OBI says Willie has not done well, let him call a press conference and tell Ndi Anambra state where Obiano is missing it instead of bringing Obaze Oseloka to fight him.

"I don't know what OBI has with the Obazes
"Four years ago,you brought out a man,he won a election, three years later, you brought out another man to fight him"........,...Dan Ulasi.

"Peter OBI did not leave #75b for Obiano but #9b.
"Even Obi's aide told us it was #9b on this station last year

"Invite officials of this government and Obi's men again and let's settle this lingering issue ."Besides, OBI left a liability of more than #100b to Obiano as he kept awarding contracts weeks before he handed over and never paid.........Dan Ulasi

"It's so bad that OBI planted his men in Obianos government."Joe-Martins and Oseloka Obaze,Obi's men worked with Obiano and after every executive meeting, they will relate to OBI all that were discussed."Joe-martins ran down ABS as Information commissioner under OBI.
"Bring him back here and invite me".........Dan Ulasi.

"OBI Peter was the reason Jonathan lost 2015 presidential election."In 2011,Jonathan had around 6m votes in south-east, in 2015,when OBI was south-eastern coordinator of Jonathan's re-election campaign,Jonathan got 3m votes in south-east and that couldn't March Buhari's 2 million votes advantage........Dan Ulasi

"Catholic Church bishops in Anambra state have held almost 20 meetings to settle OBI and Obiano but OBI has decided to be unrepentant"...................Dan Ulasi

Ifeanyi Uba,Dan Ulasi ,two concerned Anambrarians who are not APGA members have spoken and more will still face the press.Truth will continue to be unveiled during this electioneering period and remember,Prof Chukwuma Soludo said as regards Nov 18 Anambra guber election......................."If it's not broken, why mend it"

BIAFRA! BIAFRA!! BIAFRA!!!
July 4, 2017
By Ike Ekweremadu

"We know very well that the toad does not run in the daytime for nothing; if it is not after something, then something must be after it. Although Nigeria is not new to agitations of all kinds, the nation has of recent been caught in a cacophony of agitations by different groups and sections of the country. In particular, these agitations have been most pronounced in the South-east, where the activities of various pro-Biafra groups have been most pronounced. There have also been loud and well-meaning voices in the South-east and all over the country strongly canvassing a restructuring of the country.

All these point to the fact that there is widespread dissatisfaction over how Nigeria is presently constituted and run. The South-east region, in particular, has, no doubt, been at the worst receiving end of the structural imbalances with ripples of disequilibrium in the distribution of resources and opportunities since the end of the civil war in 1970. This, as we know, are at the root of the disquiet and agitation by various groups for a sovereign state of Biafra.

Although the Biafra agitation has been with us even during the regimes of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’Adua, and Goodluck Jonathan, it was managed, through tact and semblance of inclusiveness. Thus, after Ralph Uwazulike’s arrest and release from detention by the Yar’Adua administration, the agitation withered greatly. It was even much less noticeable under the Jonathan Administration because the South-east was given a greater sense of belonging. Therefore, the renewed and aggravated agitations across the South-east, the hero status of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the growing pro-Biafra sentiments in the South-east, and the widespread feelings of alienation and disgust with the Nigerian project since after the 2015 general election can be traced to the mistreatment of the region, which graduated from marginalization to exclusion, based on the 97 percent and 5 percent policy of the present administration.

However, while our people have every reason to be aggrieved and the right to vent their frustrations and seek equity and justice by democratic and non-violent means, we should also not allow our emotions to rule over our reasoning. As our people say, it will not be good to hear that the she-goat delivered in tether when elders are at home. Questions would eventually be asked. History would inquire if no elder was at home when the toad put to bed and the baby toad grew up a puffed creature because no one cared to stretch its hands or legs. There are two major opinions as to the way forward for Ndigbo at a trying time like this. We have mostly the younger generation, who believe they have had enough of the Nigerian union, which they have described in unprintable terms. The other is restructuring, which seems to appeal more to the older generation.

Legal Issues

Beyond sentiments, it needs to be emphasised that Nigeria is a sovereign state, with a defined territory recognised by the international community. She is a member of the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), among others. This territory includes the South-east region. While the right to self-determination is guaranteed under the international systems, specifically the United Nations and African Union, this right has laid down procedures that must be religiously followed. For instance, while the call for referendum is legal; they do not come by fiat. Referendum is the ultimate result of wide and long negotiations, consultations, and processes involving the international community as we have seen in the cases of Scotland in the United Kingdom, Catalonia in Spain, Quebec in Canada, and recently in Puerto Rico as well as the successful secession of East Timor from Indonesia, Eritrea from Ethiopia, and South Sudan from Sudan.

Unless these due processes are observed, as in the case of Eritrea, East Timor, and South Sudan, such enclaves will not be recognised as sovereign states by the international community. I have followed incisive arguments on this matter and looked at the history of other secessionist efforts in other parts of the world. For example, about 43 years after it broke away from Cyprus in 1974, with the help of the Turkish Army, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (Northern Cyprus) is yet to be recognised as a sovereign nation by any nation because of lack of due process. The citizens can only travel with the passport of Turkey as citizens of Turkey, not Northern Cyprus. Today, there is widespread agitation by citizens of North Cyprus to be rejoined to Cyprus. There is also the case of Somaliland. Almost three decades after it declared itself a sovereign state from the Federal Republic of Somalia, the best the self-declared Republic (British Somaliland) has achieved is recognition as an autonomous state, but still part of Somalia in spite of the fact that Somalia is a failed state. We also have the Russia-backed breakaway Eastern Ukraine, which still uses the Ukrainian international passport and currency, several years after. It does not matter that it is backed by Russia, a world super power. In the Caucasus, the breakaway South Ossetia and Abkazia from Georgia are only recognised by Russia more than 10 years after. They can only travel as Russian citizens with Russian international passport. The international community still recognises them as citizens of Georgia.

Political Considerations

Ndigbo also need to understand both the local and international political tides and sentiments to be able to make the right choices because the considerations for self-determination go beyond just the South-east.Already, extreme utterances and actions by some key elements in the agitation for Biafra are taking tolls on our goodwill, friendship, and the sympathy we enjoy. Insults hurled at religious and political leaders of other regions are not helping us, politically.Today, discordant tunes over the boundaries or territories of a prospective sovereign State of Biafra is growing in proportions with the hard wickets hurled at our neigbours and compatriots.

Indeed, as things stand today, the greater part of South-south region have continued to discountenance the idea of Biafra, perhaps, for these utterances or fear of becoming a minority within another sovereign state.Only recently, the Governor of Rivers State was in Sokoto to reiterate that the people of Rivers State are rather in support of a restructured Nigeria, not a sovereign state of Biafra. Similarly, the people of Delta State have reiterated that Delta State, including the Anioma cultural zone, which is Igbo, will not be part of Biafra. The truth is, times have changed, and so have political interests because 1967 is different from 2017. So much water has passed under the bridge and we have to be realistic.

Economic Implications

As I earlier said, there is serious clamour for Northern Cyprus to rejoin Cyprus. Beside the frustrations from isolation, the economy is also at the heart of it. The Monday, June 26, 2017 edition of UK’s newspaper, The Telegraph estimates that the reunification of the tiny island could boost its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by GBP5 Billion.South-east’s political future should therefore be put in context of its economic interest and survival. The Igbos have larger chunk of their investments outside the South-east. Our people have invested heavily in every nook and cranny of Nigeria. They are into trading. Imagine a situation where a Republic of Biafra would have to depend on Nigerian passports to travel out.
Importantly, as I mentioned earlier, we are not certain that the South-south will go with the Biafra idea. And in the event that they do not, what are our options for economic survival? Flowing from this, what guarantee do we have for international support if the main oil bearing region pulls out, knowing that no nation is a Santa Claus?

Social Considerations

Nigeria has never been as divided as it is today. The hate rhetoric is getting worse by the day. Parting ways under such level of bitterness could be risky to the investments and lives of the South Easterners. Realistically speaking, is it possible that all Ndigbo living in the other parts of Nigeria, many of whom were born and bred outside Igbo land, and have been well assimilated by their host communities will return home? Many have never visited home and do not even speak Igbo language. Can we realistically expect those who have their investments in other parts of Nigeria to willingly abandon them and head home?Although international systems seek to guarantee the security of lives of peoples and their properties on either side of the divides, should there be a self-determination process that leads to the emergence of a new nation, such guarantees are not absolute and difficult to enforce, especially in a society such as ours. The quit notice and hate spewed by the Arewa youth to Ndigbo point to the fact that all is not well. And it calls for caution because the mother hen does not run without looking back to know the fate of her chicks.

Right template for Restructuring

The other option left for us is a restructured federation. Ndigbo need to develop and market what it believes to be the right template for restructuring. The Eastern Region was rated the fastest growing economy in Africa in the First Republic because the regions were relatively autonomous; resources were largely developed and controlled by the regions.I believe Ndigbo will thrive, probably more than other regions, under a federal structure that guarantees substantial autonomy, justice, equity, security, and prosperity for Ndigbo wherever they live.
What we need is a federalism where each constituent part fends for itself to promote industry. We need a federal arrangement that guarantees and allows every constituent state or region to be primarily in charge of its aspirations and preferences to catalyse competitive development. We need a mutually agreed arrangement that allows every component to take charge of the security of lives and properties of citizens through decentralised policing, while the Federal Government takes care of defending our territorial integrity. We need a federal arrangement where the best excel, and does not have to be sacrificed in the name of federal character. We need a restructured federation where the Igbo man or woman, and indeed, every Nigerian can live and ply his or her business without any form of discrimination, molestation, and destruction of his or her life and property on the flimsiest excuses. Igbos should be better off in a federation where they freely exercise their democratic rights without being hounded and killed by security forces. We need a federal structure that guarantees smart and efficient government. And I believe these are possible if the leaders and constituent parts of the nation come to the table with sincerity of purpose. We should push for that, please.

Way forward

(i) Going forward, we need to set up a committee for a continuous engagement and moderation of IPOB, other pro-Biafra organisations and their leaders to avoid hate speeches and reckless statements that will make us lose our friends and sympathisers.

(ii) We need to send a team of South-east leaders to have yet another meeting with the Presidency, this time to tell them, in clear terms, the need to address the fears and complaints about marginalisation of the people of the South-east by this government, which is fueling the agitation in our region. Government needs to take concrete steps and demonstrate commitment in addressing the said complaints. This will help the South-east leaders to manage the restiveness.

(iii) The Igbos must continue to emphasise restructuring, which is presently enjoying acceptance by the South-south, South-west, Northern-central, and well meaning people from other parts of the North. I believe that at the discussion table for restructuring, we will have sufficient allies that will enable us extract a good bargain for a just and equitable society, where we will, no doubt, excel. Ndigbo need a bigger space to operate. In fact, Nigeria as a country is even a small space for the enterprising spirit of the Igbo, hence our people are scattered all over Africa and are capable of dominating the economic space.

(iv) We need to send delegations to different entities of the North, especially Sokoto, Kaduna, Kano, Maiduguri, Adamawa, Katsina, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, among others, to engage the respective governors and top traditional rulers and clerics who will also help to moderate the utterances and actions of the Northern youth. These, I believe, will secure the lives and properties of our people all over the north and avoid their possible mass movement ahead of the October deadline contained in the threat by the Northern youth.

(v) We need to send another delegation to meet with the Chief of Defence Staff, Inspector-General of Police, National Security Adviser, and the Director-General of the Department of State Security to express our concern over the safety of the lives and properties of our people living in the North and to urge them to take every necessary step to protect them.
Finally, whatever choices we make, we must not allow ourselves to be ruled by our emotions, but by reasoning. The same tree stump does not trip a wise man twice. We must learn from the past and act wisely and decisively. Likewise, we must endeavour to present our demands in a civilized manner and in a language that is cognizant of other people’s sensibilities, not in a provocative or rancorous manner."

I am old enough to choose what is good for me and what I want. Nobody can force anything on me. I am a full bloodied Nigerian and not a Biafran. Those who are championing the IPOD or what ever they called it are nothing but big fraud. Biafra. Their format came at the wrong time because this present government is not ' OH BOY YOU DON OBTAIN GOVT'. check MASSOB, OPC, MANY OF SUCH LIKES IN THE NIGER DELTA , all are nothing but how to obtain money from the government. Today uwazuruike and his likes moves around in convoys of more than 20 vehicles with mansions scattered all over the country. these are settlements obtained from the government.
For the present IPOB, its unfortunate their format came at the wrong time because this present govt cannot fall to such scam.
Everyday gullible people the south east who were being brainwashed daily by the political leaders will be shouting marginalization. who is marginalizing who? if the central government distributed resources to each zones and those who represents you are the center converted it to their personal property, you have to hold them accountable and make sure they vomit what they have stolen from you. If the EFCC did not call the youths of OGBIA local govt who were running mad in the streets of Yenogoa protesting the arrest of their leader and benefactor and showed them documents stating how about more than 50 billions was given to their so called benefactor and leader for various projects in their regions under the NDDC which the man converted to his personal pockets even to the extent that one of his children who is about 5 yrs old has a balance of 3 billion in an account opened under her name, the people of OGBIA would not have known the truth that the person they see as their god is the one bewitching them. same goes to all other regions in the south east. OUR MUMU DON DO!!!!
Is there any IGBO man dead or alive who is greater than ojukwu, who loved the igbos more than ojukwu and who has sacrified his life and resources for the course of the igbos more than Ojukwu?
In 2003, Ojukwu out of the cry of this marginalization by the people of south east offered himself for president so that he can give to his people what they have been crying for. It is the biggest opportunity the IGBOS has to correct what they call imbalances in the distribution of amenities as they alleged. There are about 20 million eligible Igbo voters scattered all over the country ad their votes alone is enough for IKEMBA to occupy the ASO ROCK.
BUT what happended? his people, the IGBOS, those now shouting MASSOB, IPOB, Biafra or whatever, spat him on his face. he could not even win one local government in the whole of south east. IN ENUGU STATE, OBASANJO OF PDP SCORED 99% OF TOTAL VOTE AGAINST OJUKWU. same goes for EBONYI, ABIA ,ANAMBRA AND IMO. the highest number of votes OJUKWU got was from lagos. For the people who has 20 million eligible voters which is more than the requirements to put anyone in power, all ojukwu could get was 150,000. with about 50k OF THE VOTES COMING FROM LAGOS.
Even the people of south west, which is OBASANJO'S zone REJECTED OBASANJO BUT OJUKWU'S PEOPLE TOLD OBASANJO YOU ARE THE ONE WE WANT AS THE SOUTH EAST ZONE GAVE HIM THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF VOTES. WHAT A WASTEFUL GENERATION? TUFIAKWA, WHO IS FOOLING WHO? FOR HOW LONG WILL MY PEOPLE CONTINUE TO PERISH IN IGNORANCE.
If Dr Chris Ngige did not refuse to share Anambra state TREASURY with OUR SO CALLED POLITICAL LEADERS AND HIS GANG, Anambra state would not have known that such was the order of the day during the previous government of MBADINUJU where by almost 80% of the total revenue received by the states during the 4 years of the administration was converted to personal properties of our so called leaders whose convoy of securities is far bigger than that of the president. YET WE WERE STILL BEING SOLD THE DUMMY OF MARGINALIZATION. THAT THE CENTRAL GOVT DO NOT GIVE US ANYTHING.
HOW ABOUT ABA, THE CENTER OF IGBOS INGENUITY: HOW HAS THE MIGHTY FALLEN? WE ALL KNOW HOW THE POLITICAL LEADERS OF THE STATES DESECRATED THE STATE AND TURNED IT TO REFUSE DUMP. TEARS IN MY EYES
Senator Ayogu Eze was the chairman of Senate committee on works for good 8 years. He is in charge of appropriation of funds for federal road projects in the National assembly each budget period and its over sight. Yet all the federal roads in the south east could not be maintained for all the years he was there even when funds are being appropriated for them each year . who owns the companies all the contracts were given to and how can they receive money for such projects but cannot do them and your son is the one supervising them. Now Go and check his properties and assets scartered all over world,
ENOUGH OF THE TRASH CALLED Biafra. OUR MUMU DON DO.
The only way I can take the IPOB agitators serious is to arrest all those who has served in the federal government between 1999 and 2015 and roast them alive because they were the greatest enemy and NO1 slave masters of the IGBOS.
TO THOSE WHO HAS EARS LET THEM HEAR BUT TO THE DUMB ASS, YOU CAN CONTINUE TO EXHIBIT YOUR GULLIBILITY NOT ME ANYMORE.

Muslim north is a millstone tied to the neck of Nigeria which makes it impossible for the country to make a progressive movement. This is a re-echo of what Awolowo wrote in the 1940s when he argued the the union with the North was bound to slow down progress in certain sections of Nigeria, pointing out that,as ambitious groups, like the Yoruba,Igbo and Ibibio "are impatient, and want an increase in the pace of political, educational and economic advancement...the Housaa are indifference"( Awolowo 1947: 49)

It may be interesting to read the following part of the interview by TELL Magazine with Attahiru Bafarawa (2002),the then Governor of Sokoto State:

Tell: so what about political power? Is it yours for you to hand out?
Bafarawa: You know the people in the North gave him Obasanjo the mandate. We gave you people power, now we want it back.

Tell:You have just struck the nail on the head.It is this feeling that political power to rule Nigeria is the North's birthright that is the bane of our national unity.

Bafarawa: This is what you always say.But whenever the North is in power, everybody benefits( Tell,6 May,2002:28)

Politics / The Reason Why Nigeria Will Never Move Forward. by 1people: 5:21pm On May 13, 2017
I weep everyday for the youth of this country; especially those that fight everyday here on nairaland, most of them find it extremely difficult to neither afford internet data nor eat good meal; some go to bed without food most of the time. The hatred is so much that a blind man can easily see the wide division amongst the youth of this country on ethnic divide, especially the youth of Igbo and Yoruba extraction. Our purpose as the leaders of tomorrow should be to change our country and make it a place we will be proud to call our home, and not to wage internet war. We should be ready to demand for explanation from our leaders.
I was angry when I came across an extracts from Major Emmanuel Ifeajuna’s (1966) Indictment. On the state of Nigeria before January 15 1966 coup and why they struck.
“The scene had become so corrupt and confused that while an official could be sacked if is rumoured that he talked to a girl friend of a minister or official, he could lose thousands of pounds without query being issued him to answer. So we kept asking ourselves; where lay our salvation? How could a structure be so diseased? Corruption and inefficiency were not only visible everywhere, they were accepted as the way of life.
Politics had become the best paying profession ….Then there were the ‘good time’ women, the camp followers. An incompetent secretary could get appointed on a fabulous pay with quarters as a matter of priority because she knew some minister or Alhaji. They went around openly offering themselves for trade for the highest bidder, for any job. When corruption was criticized more corruption appeared. When it was said that salaries were too high for a particular group like the legislators who met only 64 days in the year, their salaries would be raised. When people cried that there were too many ministers, they would appoint some more. On 14 January, the eve of the coup, more ministers were appointed .They used the army to terrorize the population.
They prostituted the military institution, which should be sacred to our people. And they expected that we should go on slaughtering our own people for a few criminals to stay in power.
By 1945 our people would say “I am a Nigerian, I come from Kano”. But by 1960 they would say, “I am a northerner. I come from Kano.”
So events in Nigeria drifted. Those who should have directed the affairs of the state left the destiny of our people to course of events. And the people started to lose hope, even in God. They would ask themselves,” Is it not unlucky to be a Nigerian?”
It is quite ironical that the motto of the country reads ‘Unity and faith’. Unity? Yes. We should watch together. But faith? Faith in what or whom?
In what could Nigerians repose faith in their country as ruled by the rotten regime? Was it in the thugs who operated and paraded the streets in full view and often with the co-operation of the police?
Was in the corrupt politicians? If faith meant faith in God, then it was appropriate. It meant that by some justice those who did evil would pay for it straight away. We fully realized that to be caught planning, let alone acting on our lines was high treason. And the penalty for high treason is death. We knew. We were well aware of our actions; and we were well aware of the consequences. We could not leave 55 million people to live in the ever present chaos caused by a bunch of hooligans, and we believe we were right.
For a time an army may obey a bad leader blindly. But if the army is worth the name, then the civilian, elected leaders must watch what he does with his power, what he does with and to his people. The duty of the army is not just to protect a government. It is to protect a government in so far as that Government’s interest are those of the nation….a soldier has a right to protect a nation from the mischief of an irresponsible government. A soldier’s first duty is to his people, to his nation. It does not mean that one has to disobey the government or his commanders. But when it comes to a stage, a critical stage of doubt which is rare in the life of a nation, then one has to think of his country first. Governments and individuals come and go. The nation stays, and forever. Napoleon once told his soldiers: ‘Put the country first, and you cannot go wrong’.
While our people were fighting and dying, those who ruled in Lagos and Kaduna and had but to say one word or raise a finger and peace as well as justice would return, merely looked on. It did not matter much to them that the country side was aflame with rage and violence. The last act of the regimes was an epitaph befitting their bankruptcy. Then cabinet was enlarged to include more ineffective people. On the last day of the regime, the Ex-Prime Minister granted a press interview in which he virtually admitted that he could not control the affairs of the state. Never was such dereliction of duty practiced upon a people by their own leader.
We had waited enough. Here at last was the challenge at our feet. We heard them challenge us to stand up for our people or fall supine with them, and their voices kept ringing in our ears, calling us to emergency action. We could not stop”

My fellow Nigeria youth the situation is still the same after 50 years of the said coup and we are here killing ourselves over APC and PDP, killing and insulting ourselves over politicians that don’t care about us. Where lay our salvation youth of Nigeria?
Crime / This Handsome Boy Was Killed By Police In Lagos by 1people: 12:19pm On Apr 07, 2017
Aguleri Youths petition IG of Police over alleged brutal killing of their brother @FESTAC Police Custody
Aguleri youths have petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Idris and the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni to quickly set up an investigative panel to probe the circumstances that led to the gruesome death of their brother Albert Okechukwu while in the custody of FESTAC Police Station in Lagos State and subsequent efforts by the officers to cover up their acts.
According to a statement issued by Aguleri National Youths Association, Lagos branch, the deceased was traveling alongside Alex Ejomofor on March 17 when they had a clash with a commercial motorcycle rider at Alkija Bus Stop culminating in police intervention.
The statement jointly signed Mr. Innocent Okonkwo and Emma Ogugua, Secretary and Chairman of ANYA, Lagos Branch, disclosed the two Aguleri boys were bundled to FESTAC Police station and subjected to brutal torture on mere suspicion of attempt to steal a commercial motorcycle .
The statements read in parts: "They continued beating them before eventually leaving them under the sun without food or water from noon till evening. Pleas by the two boys that they were innocent of the accusations fell to deaf ears. As nightfall approached, they were ordered to enter police cell and they demanded that they must explain to them why they were being locked up in the police custody.
"Infuriated, the police officers decided to tear-gas and beat them up to submit to their whims. When they eventually forced them into cell, the weakened Albert Okechukwu who was still shouting his innocence was subsequently brought out and subjected to another rounds of brutalization before taken him back to the cell. He was in pains for 48 hours, before he passed out in the night with handcuffs round his arms. His remains was later taken to an unknown place by the police before proceeding to file a criminal charge against Alex Ejimofor still alive in a bid to cover up their tracks."

When they eventually forced them into cell, the weakened Albert Okechukwu who was still shouting his innocence was subsequently brought out and subjected to another rounds of brutalization before taken him back to the cell. ON THE ALLEGED POLICE BRUTALITY AND PLOT TO COVER UP MURDER AND UNJUST TREATMENT AGAINST LATE ALBERT OKECHUKWU & ALEX EJIMOFOR
We, the Aguleri National Youth Association, Lagos State Chapter wishes to use this medium to share with you a recent dastard acts perpetrated by some law enforcement officers from FESTAC Town Police Station against two of our brothers and their clandestine moves to use trump up charges to cover it up.
LATE ALBERT OKECHUKWU AND ALEX EJIMOFOR, currently facing criminal trial at APAPA Magistrate Court for alleged conspiracy to steal Motorcycle, according to police charge sheet, are victims of police brutality and cover up. And we have the sacred duty to tell the world what actually transpired and our resolved to fight for justice and ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to book.
The truth is that on that fateful Friday, March 17, 2017, Albert (now deceased) and Alex who were returning to Aguleri, Anambra state from their base in Coutonou, Benin Republic ran out of Nigerian currency (Naira). And as many in their shoes would do, they promptly alighted at Alakija bus stop, Lagos and informed a commercial motorcycle rider, who came to transport them to FESTAC Town, of their predicament as well as plan to quickly withdraw money from nearest ATM terminal at their destination. The unidentified Okada boy agreed.
However, misunderstanding later broke out when they were returned to the same Alakija Bus Stop instead of where they can board a bus to Onitsha at around 11 AM as the Okada boy refused to take them to their destination, after withdrawing the money on the way. All efforts to convince him to stick to their earlier agreement that they pay him as soon as they reach their destination failed.
As the arguments ensued, the Okada boy raised alarm in Hausa language which got the boys confused as they were not familiar with the language. The misunderstanding degenerated to exchange of blows between them and some Okada riders at the bus stop.
The commotion quickly attracted the attention of traffic police officers at the Alakija Bus stop who promptly called Police Patrol Team. On arrival at the scene, the police out of their familiarity called the Okada rider aside and after a brief conversation with them decided to take the duo of Alex and Albert to FESTAC Police station without hearing their own side of the story. The duo objected to the police plan to take them to the station alone, insisting that the Okada boy who fought them must come along.
Their objection infuriated the police officers who quickly descended on the two innocent passengers with series of kicking and hitting with their gun buts, before bundling them into their waiting van and whisked them to FESTAC Police Station for interrogation.
At the station, the Investigative Police Officer reportedly wrote a statement, apparently based on what the Okada boy told them and ask the two arrested passengers to sign. In defence of their fundamental human rights, the boys refused to sign the spurious statements. And this further aggravated the anger of the officers who then decided to punish them for their bravado. They continued beating them before eventually leaving them under the sun without food or water from noon till evening. Pleas by the two boys that they were innocent of the accusations fell to deaf ears. As nightfall approached, they were ordered to enter police cell and they demanded that they must explain to them why they were being locked up in the police custody.
Infuriated, the police officers decided to tear-gas and beat them up to submit to their whims. When they eventually forced them into cell, the weakened Albert Okechukwu who was still shouting his innocence was subsequently brought out and subjected to another rounds of brutalization before taken him back to the cell. He was in pains for 48 hours, before he passed out in the night with handcuffs round his arms. His remains was later taken to an unknown place by the police before proceeding to file a criminal charge against Alex Ejimofor still alive in a bid to cover up their tracks.
According to the charge sheet OJ/33/2017, a copy of which we have with us here, police claimed that Alex Ejimofor conspired with the deceased Albert Okechukwu to steal a Bajaj Motorcycle. The question the police has failed to answer include:
How did a suspect in the so-called conspiracy to commit felony or steal motorcycle, who was pleading his innocence, eventually died in police custody?
What steps has the police hierarchy taken so far to investigate this obvious abuse of police mandate and ensure that those officers responsible for the death of Albert Okechukwu are brought to book?
If the police officers claim the two fellows planned to steal motorcycle on that fateful day, what evidences did they have to support their claims?
Were the boys found with any arms or weapons to commit such crime to warrant such treatment?
We are wondering how two young men without arms or criminal records could have hatched such plots at 11am in a busy Alakija, notwithstanding their unfamiliarity with Lagos environment?
How can police officers beat someone to death over alleged crime they have not investigated properly?
Why were they detained for two days in the cell before taken the survived one to court?
Did police make an arrest in the scene were this squabble ensued?
While, we are still at loss over what motivated the officers to perpetrate such brutal act against innocent citizens, our investigation revealed that the Investigative Police Officer (IPO), Mr. Azeez and his team are used to such hatchet job and getting away with it. We therefore demand that those officers behind the killing of Albert Okechukwu and ongoing plot to convict Alex Ejimofor of crime he never committed, even without proper investigation, be quickly arrested, charge to court and brought to justice.
We do not know how many innocent citizens whose lives had been cut short or shattered through the brutal torture and imprisonment of these corrupt officers, but all we know is that we shall apply all the legal means to obtain justice. We are assembling a legal team to defend the case of criminal charges at the court. But we will not stop at just making sure that our brother is set free from this criminal conspiracy. We will make sure that those who conspired to make them victims of Nigerian police brutality did not escape justice.
Having already sent our petitions to the relevant authorities to act swiftly and ensure that justice is done to this case, we therefore wish to use this medium to appeal to the Inspector General Of Police, Musa Idris. The AIG ZONE 2 and Lagos State Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, to quickly set up a high powered investigative panel to investigate this unwarranted police action against Messrs. Albert Okechukwu and Alex Ejimofor and bring to justice those behind this brutal act and cover ups.
We find it strange that Nigerian citizens can be subjected to such biased treatment by law enforcement officers, even without bothering to investigate the claims made by the Okada boy. It’s therefore imperative that the government of Federal Republic of Nigeria, the police authority and other government institutions responsible for protecting the rights of Nigerian citizens, ensuring justice and fair play take necessary steps to ensure that the perpetrators of this crime does not go unpunished. We will be counting on them to do what is needful, to ensure that the death of Albert Okechukwu was not in vain and that Alex Ejimofor does not suffer brutality in vain.
We pray that those responsible for upholding justice in this country will not disappoint our faith in the rule of law.

In 1970, just after the war, the University of Nigeria, Nsụka re-opened to continue tertiary education. But there were too many problems and faults as a result of destructions. One of such big issues was WATER. The sunken borehole before the war had been damaged during the war. Nigerian government, in a bid to intervene, sent some Nigerian engineers to fix the borehole. The said engineers, after grandstanding around the stuff for weeks and have probably shown they knew it all, declared the UNN water system "dead, forever". This meant an entirely new water system would have to be done which will cost more money and take more time while the water scarcity deals brutally with the staff and students. Whoever passed through UNN would understand what a big treasure water is in that part of Igboland!
When the moribund and pessimistic Nigerian engineers had left with their Nigerian incompetence, Gordian Ezekwe — an Igbo scientist from Abagana who headed the Rocket Group of Research and Production Board that made Ogbunigwe and refined oil in Biafra — went to the system unit and SINGLEHANDEDLY fixed the water system in a short time and water supply returned again to the University. The same water system is what UNN is still using till today — 47 years after!
If you want more facts about this, check historians like Ed, Chyke or ask the first UNN Registrar and novelist, Chukwuemeka Ike who's presently the traditional ruler of Ndikeliọnwụ in Anambara State.
Lesson: A big country doesn't amount to big resourcefulness. That's Nigeria. A country can be small with mighty minds in it. That's Biafra. Incompetence is another word for Nigeria and it would always be for it will continue to lower standards for dafts and dunces to comfortably find a space and go high up the ladder. Many Igbos want Biafra not out of emotions but because they want to be dissociated from the culture of incompetence so that they can grow.
