Excuse me please; there is a place already designated for criminals. It is called the penitentiary/prison/jail.

dude, can't you guys make a constructive criticism without resulting to name calling for once? Only pple with poor upbringing behave this way.

@topic, it makes sense to me..if you can't fight them, shame them into stoping corruption and criminality. That's classic human logic. Igbos have been using this method since the beginning of time

Dude, you're the one who lacks comprehension. Where did u see name calling in his post? Read b4 u comment poo next time.

And you're a dunce to think shaming em should replace jailing em.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday pushed for a designated place to be created and named “Hall of Shame” where names of criminals and societal misfits will be documented.

Stressing that he muted the idea while he was the Governor of Bayelsa State, the President said that it will serve as deterrence to those who may want to indulge in criminality in the country.

The President gave the suggestion on Tuesday while receiving the Legends of Nollyhood, led by its Chairman Paul Obaziele, who conferred on him the title of Grand Patron of the body at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to him, immortalizing the names of criminals in the proposed hall of shame would make families and youth not to be attracted to crimes that could bring shame to their names.

He said: “I heard you saying that you are planning a Hall of Fame, I think we should start thinking of having a hall of shame where the names of criminals would be written. This will serve as a deterrent to those who may want to indulge in criminal activities as they would not want to soil their family names.”

Acknowledging the contributions made by the actors and actresses in the film industry, he eulogized them for contributing to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

He said that the Nollyhood actors have done the nation proud by projecting its culture positively within and outside the country.

Jonathan noted that the country used to be proud of soccer stars in the recent past but since the national team has begun to disappoint the nation, the Nollywood has overtaken them.

He called on the actors to help project agriculture positively in their movies so that youngsters could develop interest in going into the business.

The President assured them of government’s support for the production of such movies.

Speaking earlier, Obaziele sought for more support from the government in terms of welfare.

He also requested for comprehensive health insurance and pension schemes be created for actors and actresses and the provision of accommodation for those who cannot afford decent housing.

This president talks fisherman who had never been to a primary school before.
And how will you determine criminals to be put into the hall of shame? Are you going to put people the president or the public perceive as being corrupt like Bola Tinubu or Atiku Abubakar, or people actually convicted like Tafa Balogun,Cicila Ibru or Ibori. What about convicted but pardoned criminals like Alamiesiegha? Would they be put into the hall of Shame too?

Is a hall of shame more effective than sending criminals to long jail terms after being found guilty by the courts?

Useless Suggestion.

Yes, it really show how delusional and removed from reality this deceitful clueless is!

1. He does not know that this is not 2011 when unsuspecting Nigerians trusted him, sympathized with him and EXPECTED him to steer the country away from the corrupt and inglorious past, but he failed to do that.

2. Instead, he CHOSE to align with the same corrupt elements we had expected him to fight and tell them, on our behalf, that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Most regrettably, the thieving elite are now even MORE EMBOLDENED to loot with even GREATER IMPUNITY than ever before.

3. His WORDS and DEEDS have shown to them that he does NOT actually give a damn about their frenzied looting, as long as they would help him win re-election in return.

4. So in reality, if there is any such a hall of shame, who else DESERVES to occupy the VERY TOP of it if not his VERY CLOSE political associates, financiers and supporters - the likes of Alamiesegha, Bode George, Al-Mustapha, Asari Dokubo, Stella Oduah, Diezani and others?

5. And when a leader's BODY LANGUAGE ENCOURAGES CORRUPTION (apologies to Tambuwal); when his CONSCIENCE does not tell him that it is NOT RIGHT for a leader to appear so TOLERANT of corruption and so closely ASSOCIATED with the CORRUPT elements of the society, then WHERE ELSE does the name of that leader himself rightly belong, if not on the very top of any hall of shame that there might be?

Is this not the same GEJ that

1. Granted presidential pardon to Alams
2. Granted presidential pardon to Bode George
3. Withdrew case against Muhammed Abacha
4. Withdrew case against Sergeant Rogers
5. Says corruption is mere stealing
6. Took him years to investigate 255mm odeshi-proof car and never prosecuted the culprit.
7. Told American will know if USD20bn is missing, because it's their money.

Can Jonathan just name himself as the first member of the hall of shame.
Can he fight corruption? No he cannot, except he wants to commit suicide.

You see why we igbos should be careful of this buhari change and his supporter so you mean to tell me that these name you called are corrupt because they are from a perticular region even though there is no evidence against them while we all know that a particular Farouk lawal from a particular region who collected bribe is deemed to be a saint. Igbo be careful in the eye of Nigeria only SS and SE are corrupt while the sw and core north are saint. Be careful of what you wish because this drum of change certain region is drumming it's all calculated attempt to continue marginalizing us but we are going to defeat them isha Allah come 2015 GEJ till 2019.

Nice development. I hope he is aware that corrupt individuals are also criminals. After all, stealing whether "small small stealing" or big big stealing is a crime.
