Story for the gods, there is still no light in my area for the past few weeks.

It is a transformational process. It does not happen overnight. If previous governments had done their bits, the situation would have been way better. There is hope, especially now that the private sector has invested their scarce resources in the power sector. They will fight tooth and nail to provide good services that can ensure the recuperation of their investments.

In a few years to come, the government will only play a regulatory role in that sector and stability will be ensured.

Here are some REAL-LIFE street facts for you to ponder on:

Biggest economy: Yet Thousands have not been paid for the last three months and there is no hope in sight. Thousand more have lost there jobs in oil sector. Any we have just been rated int'lly to be among the poorest in Africa! Naira is at an all time low - $5 is about N1000 .

Privatisation of Power sector: I type this using the power from my inverter which was charged with my generator. Story remains the same everywhere in the country.

Roads: I passed through the popular Benin road a few weeks ago hoping to experience smooth ride all through. While there are parts that have been resurfaced, the majority of the road (Ore to Ijebu Ode in particular) have no sign of being looked into. Nothing different from what other administation has done so far.

Auto Manufacturing Reforms: This make me laugh as we like to delibrately mock our intelligence. There is a whole world of difference between manufacturing and assembly. What we have is an auto assembly facility in absolutely no way different from the peought assembly plant in the north for many decades.

Oil Sector reform: I don't recollect any recruitment by any major oil company last year. Worst still they are down-sizing. No thanks the record breaking oil theft inspite of the fact that gej gave pipeline security to his kinsman who is a well-known militant.

Railway: Laughable locomotive in this age and time. I don't recollect where else these are still being used.

Agriculture: I can't speak on this but a lot of people seem to agree gej has done well here.

Airport reform: Just take a trip to any of the airpots that gulpped billions and check their state in less than 1 yr.

BTW of what good is all these (assuming they were all truly achieved) when the very basic responsibilty of goverment has suffered. Insecurity is at its peak. Infact, the total number of death (over 13,000 i.e thirteen thousand) in this administration is only second to that of the civil war!

I am not a christian, but here is a word of wisdom from a respectable pastor "If you don't do something, Something will do you"

In your attempt to rubbish the glaring milestones in the video, you have made very frivolous and ignorant statements. I don't mean to insult you o, but your response to this post revealed how much you don't know about transformation and development. Your "REAL-LIFE street facts", whatever it is, did not reveal any fact.

What does being the biggest economy have to do with withholding the salaries of workers? WHICH AGENCY RATED NIGERIA AS THE POOREST AFRICAN NATION? WHERE DID OIL WORKERS LOSE THEIR JOBS? You will do well to back up your frivolous statements with evidence. Moreover, if oil workers lost their jobs and the economy is not doing too well, do you have to blame the government for causing the economic crisis? Did the FG reduce the price of oil? You see? You know very little of what you are fast to respond to.

You have just announced to us that you are using an inverter. Good. How does that disprove or make FG's privatization useless? WHO ARE YOU TO SAY THAT THE STORY REMAINS THE SAME ALL OVER THE COUNTRY? DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT POWER GENERATION AND DISTRIBUTION IN THE PAST AND NOW? Here again, you showed that you know nothing about privatization, power generation and current dynamics in the Nigerian power sector.

About the roads, are you saying that what we are seeing in the video was distorted? Do you really think you can interpret everything the way you wish even in the face of glaring evidence? Did you even watch any of the videos?

Your statement about the Made in Nigeria cars is laughable. It shows that you underestimated how much reforms has happened in that sector. Just patiently watch the video before making any comment. You call the trains obsolete. Sigh, you are so ungrateful. Which advanced rail system were you riding in the past in Nigeria? Do you know that the same train is being used in more developed nations? How will you know when you have refused to do your research. Street facts indeed. SMH.

Your continuous use of the security situation to score points against the FG is becoming obsolete. ISN'T IT OBVIOUS THAT THE FG IS TACKLING THE SECURITY ISSUE HEADLONG? This is despite the fact that it is a war involving INTERNAL GUERRILLA WARFARE. Something that Nigeria is not used to. Gallant youths are in the forests dying for you, you are here mocking them. What a shame.

I'll leave you with some questions, "WHICH LEADERS FAILED TO UPDATE THE NIGERIAN MILITARY FOR MANY DECADES? IS THIS LACK OF UPDATE REFLECTING IN THE CURRENT FIGHT AGAINST INTERNAL AGGRESSION? IS THE FG STRIVING TO UPDATE THE MILITARY? If you can sincerely answer these questions, you'll be educated on the complexities involved in the current war.

If you must criticize, try to be objective or better still, present facts.

Happy New Year and thank you for this education. These are jobs GEJ media handlers should be doing instead of wasting time exchanging banters with opposition. In-spite of some of Jonathan's short comings, he has out performed his predecessors in many areas. Unfortunately his performance are being under reported by his media handlers either they are not competent or they are deliberately sabotaging the man's efforts mafia style. His works are enough campaign tools for him.

GEJ is Nigeria's best performing president till date. Forget all the noise, distractions and propagandas from the opposition. The unbiased analytical Nigerians knows this is a fact.

This thread is informative and I think it should be in the front page.

Its a new year. I intend to enjoy it with my family inspite of the many gov. failures. So I am not going to labour myself on countering all of your posts. But it appears you are either not in the country or just being mischivious.

You asked for proves, so I will just one ore two. You see, I am not an economist, but simple facts can't be ignored. No doubt Nigeria is a big market - the biggest in Africa because of our population. That is why the likes of MTN et al will not take the nigerian market forgranted. But you can't be the biggest economy and still can't afford to pay salary because the slide in oil price. Granted FG did not and could not have caused the slide. But the fact that our economy is hugely dependent on one comodity proves we are not even close to being a big economy let alone biggest. You can't be the biggest economy and your national currency keep losing value steadily - tell me one other "big economy nation" that suffers same fates. You can't be the biggest economy and one of your biggest industry (after agric) keep laying people off.

And to think you don't know all of this (or just pretending not to know) by asking for prove just shows that you are either not in the country or you are just being mischivious. I will not bother with links to the steady slide of the naira nor the inability of the fg and some state government (due to slash in their allocation by fg) to pay salaries. But here are some for you to ponder on (or to deny as is exected):

Nigeria Ranked Least Prosperous Nation In The World
In spite of the new found status of Nigeria as the largest economy in Africa, the country has been ranked not only as one of the world’s least prosperous countries in 2014, but also one of Africa’s poorest nation beaten by smaller countries like Niger, Benin, Mali and Cameroun, an annual global prosperity survey released this week has said.

PIB delay: No new jobs in petroleum industry....Nigeria loses $100bn investment .. As Agip,others sack secretly

Investigation by Nigerian NewsDirect revealed that all the International Oil Companies (IOCs) led by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Nigeria Agip Oil Company, Chevron Nigeria Limited and service providers led by Schlumberger Oil Field Services have put on hold recruitment of young graduates. It will be recalled that the industry workers unions under the aegis of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Assocaition of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and National Union of Petroleum and natural Gas (NUPENG) had protested over staff rationalisation by the IOCs in reaction to insecurity and rising cost of exploration and production (E&P) activities in the Niger Delta.

It is laughable to say you don't blame fg (who gave pipeline security to a known militant) for the loss of job in oil sector arising from oil theft. I guess you will blame the apc or northern elites - right?

PIPELINE VANDALISM: Shell Puts Oil Blocks On Sale, Moves To Exit Nigeria

http://www.ekekeee.com/pipeline-vandalism-shell-puts-oil-blocks-sale-moves-exit-nigeria/

On power sector: You don't know who I am, so you cannot say I do not know anything about power generation/distribution and dynamics. I am not the one saying the situation is the same all over the country. There have been several surveys here on nairaland to that effect. If you want to prove me wrong, be brave enough to start a fresh survey and find out. The question you should ask yourself is does Nigerians really care about privatisation of the power industry? For God's sake all we want is constant electricity - wether it is privatisation or "publitisation" doesn't really matter for now. People want to use electricity for there businesses and confort period!

For the roads, Unfortunately, I didn't go with my camera when I travelled through the Ore-Ijebu ode road and other segment of the East-West Road. But even if I did, I won't bother with pictures. There are more than enough examples of gov. failings on road even on Nairaland.

On security: Its going to six yrs since gej took over. And you still blame past administration for failing to equip the military. granted the past administration failed but what has gej done in the past 6yrs to make thing better for the military? I remember about 3 or 4 yrs ago when the defence budget was one-quarter of the national budget. Why was it not used to equip the army? And in what concrete way has this gov. made things better. For a start can you mention Which BH sponsor has been arrested? All we see/hear si FG take $9m dollars cash to another country and blame US, SA and now Saudi.

Again, its a new year. I intend to enjoy it with my family.

Still, you exhibit the lack of understanding of the dynamics involved in national development. Assume that you were the president, CAN YOU SOLVE ALL THE PROBLEMS PLAGUING THE NATION IN 6 YEARS? It is easier said than done. Destruction is easier than building. It took several decades of successive leadership failure to plunge Nigeria into the sorry state that we now find ourselves. I wonder how you want all these to be repaired in 6 years.

you ignore the fact that it is normal for challenges to emerge and threaten the sustenance of progress. The fall in oil price and the recent pull out of the US from buying Nigeria's petroleum products are not under the control of the FG. All they can do is to re-adjust to sustain the pace of development. The link that you posted, about the outcome from the stagnancy of the PIB bill is more complex than you have implied. It is either you deliberately ignored it or you just don't know. The national assembly are the ones behind the deadlock as shown in the link below;

http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/01/22/nigeria-oil-idUSL6N0ARD3520130122

You are very wrong to blame it on GEJ's government. He is simply being a democrat by respecting the other arms of government. After all, you played a part in electing the legislators. The sack of workers and the glut in investment in the petroleum industry has been blamed on the lack of government stance on the PIB bill. It has nothing to do with GEJ's effort. It also has nothing to do with the issue of oil bunkering. Oil Bunkering did not start with this government. As a matter of fact, this government has made tremendous effort to curtail it by arming the Navy effectively. See the links below;

Oil Bunkering is a problem that was in existence even before the current government was conceived. Like I said before, it took decades to create, it will take more than 6 years to crush it effectively.

You are right, "SOME" workers have not been paid in November and December. However, the FG has responded and explained that IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SLIDE IN OIL PRICES or ECONOMIC DOWNTURN. See the link below;

http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/lead-story/192034-workers-groan-over-unpaid-dec-salaries

You are attributing it to Nigeria's economic problems which is VERY WRONG. worse still, you are implying that Nigeria's economy is not the biggest economy in Africa. You posted a link about Nigeria being the poorest country in Africa. THAT IS RELATIVE. YOU WILL NEED TO UNDERSTAND THE INDICES THAT THEY REFERED TO BEFORE MAKING YOUR CONCLUSION. Nigeria's economy, backed by the fiscal policies of the FG, is still powering in the face of enormous challenges. IT IS THE BIGGEST ECONOMY IN AFRICA. see the link below;

http://www.informationng.com/2014/09/nigerias-gdp-records-6-5-growth-in-second-quarter-nbs.html

You cannot argue about the fact that Nigeria is facing enormous SOCIO-RELIGIOUS challenges, and the fact that in the midst of these challenges, the government is still holding the economy up. Again, you WER wrong for denouncing the FG on the basis of a conclusion made by a certain agency. You must be objective in your reasoning. Generally, employment rate is thriving, though not good enough yet. See the link below;

http://www.informationng.com/2014/09/good-news-nigeria-records-85-per-cent-employment-in-first-half-of-2014-nbs.html

It is expected, considering the increased rate of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflow and the activation of the manufacturing sector. Even with the worrisome unemployment rate, jobs are being created by the FG. See the link below;

http://businessdayonline.com/2014/09/rate-of-job-creation-insufficient-to-tame-unemployment-in-nigeria/#.VKU8eCuUdGQ

If you want to convince people that the FG did not transform Nigerian roads, you must bring some evidence. There are lots of evidence to show that the FG has greatly transformed Nigerian roads. See the link below;

http://www.today.ng/opinion/how-jonathan-is-breaking-new-grounds-for-road-sector/

You will have to take pictures to prove them wrong. I have friends that traveled to the South East through that road this December, and they proved that it has been transformed, although they noted that a lot more needs to be done e.g. drainages as noted in one of the videos. If you say that it is not true, you will need to show some evidence.

As I noted above, it took decades to destroy the power sector, 6 years will not be enough to repair it. The first step has been taken by handing the sector over to capable hands, YOU WILL REALLY NEED TO BE PATIENT TO EXPERIENCE THE IMPACT OF ITS PRIVATIZATION. You will need to see the video that I posted. Same goes for the security issues being faced by Nigeria. The military was tactically disarmed by past governments for fear of coups and mutinies. The military was and is still in a sorry state. the Federal government is currently recruiting, training and arming the Nigerian military to face current challenges. See links below;

Yeah, it is fine for you to choose not to vote GEJ, but give honor to whom it is due.

Meanwhile, at least $10b is still unaccounted for. The whistleblower was sacked not for embezzlement nor corruption but for ridiculous and shameless allegation of financial recklessness as a result of his donations to terror attack victims and donations to universities while the accused - i.e those that could account for such huge amount of money are still in office. To make matters worse, my president said if such money was missing "America will Know". Today the PWC report initiated by the minister of finance is still not released (was supposed have been released in Nov). Worse still, accroding to premiumtimes, the report may have somehow disappeared!

PREMIUM TIMES independently investigated the whereabouts of the report and its contents, several weeks before the statement released by the APC on Saturday.

At each turn, relevant government offices denied having the report despite confirmation by senior officials of the finance ministry to this newspaper that the report had since been submitted by PriceWaterHouseCoopers.

The sources said the document was submitted to the office of the Auditor-General of the Federation.

Our reporters contacted the offices of the Auditor-General and the Accountant- General repeatedly, pressing for the report, without success.

A spokesperson for the Auditor-General of the Federation, Florence Dibiase, said she was not aware of the report.

Where is the reform for corruption?Why has'nt he got a single conviction in 6 years

Reforms for corruption? Ok let me give you some ideas of this man's definitaion of reform:

Alamieyeseigha impeached and jailed by obj administration for corruption has been granted pardon by gej. This means the man can contest for elections again.
Bode George convicted also during obj has the audacity to challenge his conviction and infact won the case. Today he is no longer an ex-convict and a pdp king-maker-wanna be in Lagos.
FFK had a case with EFCC, he was everywhere castigating pdp but when the nook tightened on his neck, he defected to pdp and somehow miraculously won the case. Today, he is the media director of gej campaign train.
Do I need to talk about correlation of oil-theft (or bunkering) that has risen to levels never seen before and our president giving the billion naira pipeline security contract to ex militants? http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/oil-theft-so-why-was-tompolo-paid-n15-billion-/151835/
BTW the oil theft has risen to such a high that it now affects the major oil companies (none of them made any major recruitment last year) to the extent that they are now selling their assets (to gov. cronies if you investigate) thus leading to sacking of a good number of oil workers.

So some of us are not even asking gej to solve all of nigeria's problems as that will be unfair. What we are saying is if you cannot make things better, stop undoing the very little gains we have had - i.e stop taking us back in time. It is bad enough gej cannot get more convictions, but for God's sake stop actively getting in the way of justice and aiding corruption.

The two life most threatening diseases afflicting this nation (corruption and insecurity) are the ones this government is either aiding or just plainly looking the other way. Absolutely nothing meaningful can be achieved when these two are thriving. I am yet to see a nation worthy of its name that does not have a bold fight against these two. To be conservative, at least $10b is missing, the people that couldn't account for the money are still in office. We have seen the type of train that was build with $3.4b in a sane country and the op wants us to be excited and grateful with decades-old locomotives.

Meanwhile, just in today on a lighter mode:

‘’Mr. President said he wants to put in place the institutions to tackle corruption before taking on the canker worm that has almost destroyed the fabric of our society. Pray, whatever happened to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC? Were they not institutions specifically created for the purpose of tackling corruption, but which the Jonathan administration chose to castrate?
‘’There is no better way to say this: President Jonathan lacks the political will to tackle corruption and he will not tackle it if he spends 60 years in office.’’

On security:
I have always believed this insurgency was treated with kids gloves by fg because of politics/elections.
Why on earth will it take the president weeks to admit girls were kidnapped in Chibok. To start with, why on earth will that number of people will be kidnapped in a state under emergency rule with military checkpoint everywhere? There are just too many questions begging for answers which never came until a few days ago. It somehow explains it and to some extents, puts the pieces together!

“We got permission to fly through Sudan and other countries but have been blocked by Saudi Arabia, which has impeded the urgency of the operation.”
He added that owing to Saudi Arabia’s refusal, the only alternative is for Nigeria to ship the armament by sea, but using this as an option would take much longer.

“If we resort to shipping the arms via the high seas, they would reach us well after the elections which may be too late for the desired impact, especially now that we have the insurgents on the run,” he explained.

And someone is quoting some blog posts as evidence that this gov is sincerely fighting insurgency.
