One thing with some Nigerians is they are very st$upid and irrational. Look at them crying foul to end quota system but when it's ended and Igbos start occupying top universities, secondary schools and incidentally into top government agencies by merit(absence of quota system), they will be the same st$upid people who will be crying the Igbos are greedy and taking what belongs to others. Then why are you wanting to remove something that ensures parity in the polity? Don't forget that this same Buhari got into the army via Quota system! Nigeria military uses quota system till this day, as with other federal agencies!

Examples of quota system that you hardly hear about are brilliant SE students being denied to get into top schools of their choice because of quota system that wants students from other regions to get a shot even though their common entrance performance is way below average. I'm in favor that quota system be left as it is to keep the country united and all regions happy to know that their own is reflected in the polity in spite of their academic deficiencies. However if you decide to remove it, don't envy people who work harder and get into top schools and government positions as clearly supported by FACTUAL statistics below and many others.

Common Entrance cut of marks for SE students especially Anambra and Imo are 139 and 138 respectively, way beyond the confines of reason and clearly unjust for these young pupils under 11 yrs old. What sin have these innocent pupils committed to be denied entrance into top schools of their choice? Because they are smarter? You didn't think all these while that Quota system was the cause of this injustice? In essence, if a student from Anambra or Imo scored 135 in common entrance, he will be denied into a school of his choice because somebody from another state/region with the same score or lower, even as low as 2 in the case of Zamfara has to be taken in. Is this fair? NO! But that's what quota system does. I mention this to clearly show you how quota system is beneficial to other regions for you idi$ots clamoring to remove it. In the absence of quota system, virtually all Anambra and Imo students would take up all the spaces in the top secondary schools in the country with no room for students from other regions to get in.

Clearly SE and SS lead the pack! The same trend can be seen in JAMB also. Remove quota system and see how federal, state and private universities will be flooded with students from these regions; denying other regions a chance. Is this fair? In a logical world, yes it is. But with respect to Nigeria with multi regions with uneven academic performance, it's not fair as all regions need to be carried along in the polity!

Let me get something straight...

I stongly believe our diversoity is our strenght and will like to see our country remain one united multi cultural entity. The Yoruba culture among her people grows stronger in the midst of other tribes and vice versa as our people are proud of theit herritage and are ever always wantinh to showcase their values, ideals and culture to one another. This ethnic pot pourie is what makes our country very unique even amoung other African countries.

I will like to see every tribe working or studyingh together under the same roof as personal interactions are the surest way to bring down prejudice and differences but what I don't want to see is a situation dominates unfairly.

Quota system ensures equity in representation but in selection it also enmcourages laziness.

As long as equity is the aim, then equity should be fully implimented at all stages including the selevtion process.

A child from Kano should posses the samr criteria as that of Anambra.

Quota system needs to be removed from our system. It's an anti-developmental policy.

The Northern child should be allowed to make his mistakes, learn and grow. With time due to competition from his mates, he will learn faster and possibly overtake in the future.

Quota system is not giving them the opportunity to fully harness their intellectual abilities. Learned Northerners are very brilliant people.

The system is retrogressive.

PvtParts:

You just succeded in saying nothing.

Prejudice is what quota system promotes as it recognizes ethnicity over ability

That my friend in my book is what I call positive discrimination

If anything at all, the quota system enforces ethnic divide.

Even in your State I am sure there are complaining minorities, but the only ethnic divide you choose to see is North vs. South. Remove the log in your eye first. This is why minorities will keep Nigeria as one unit. All you major tribes refuse to deal with your own flaws. I'm sure your governor, Senator, rep etc were all selected on merit, not geographical rotation or ethnic rotation. Yeah right!
Right now the Urhobo in delta are complaining of marginalisation, the Anglicans in enugu were complaining about Catholic only governorship tickets, in Rivers the ogoni are asking for rotation of governorship, Abia state has the two major tribes in permanent competition, akwa ibom now has tribal issues because of the governor. Let's not pretend that ethnic issues are only North vs south. That is simplistic and false. But it reveals a lot about your inner workings.

^^^Spot on!

We've had this useless quota-system in place since the Hausa/Fulani took over in the late 60s, yet where has it gotten them!? If anything, it's made their kids lazy and believe they can make it in life without putting in their best!

Sincerely hope important issues like this are moved to the front page so slowly and steadily we can move this great country forward with our little contributions.

Nigeria belongs to all of us.
