Battery is an essential component of your car as without it you can't even think of running your vehicle. They can last long for years depending upon its maintenance and can be used for igniting the engine, playing music, powering the lights, blowing horn, and much more. But the well-known fact is that it cannot last for lifetime, so at some phase you would definitely need a replacement for it. Certainly, it is important that you take care of it once you've replaced it. There are many things to consider such as correct shape and size, its durability in extreme weather conditions, its life span, maintenance, guarantee period and recycling tips. Keeping all these things in mind you must compare and choose the right battery for your car. Also, its terminals need to be washed properly to avoid corrosion and other problems related to electric current.

There are many options available when it comes to buying a perfect battery for your car. In general, there are three basic types of batteries available in the marketplace, such as:

• Conventional - these batteries need to be checked at regular intervals of time, at least once a month. Also known as lead-acid batteries, they are used for automotive purpose. This battery type indicates liquid electrolyte and requires more maintenance as compared to other batteries. These long-lasting batteries are usually inexpensive and require regular water replacement. As recommended by the experts, only mineral free or distilled water to be used for these batteries instead of tap water, as it contains minerals.

• Low maintenance - As the name suggests, they require less maintenance in comparison to other batteries. They are totally different from conventional batteries as they are designed to work for a longer period of time without water. There is no way to check out the level of electrolyte in these batteries. However the condition of the battery can be checked by taking hydrometer readings of each cell. Also, they require less frequent checking of water.

• Maintenance free - these batteries require no maintenance as they are designed to last for long period of time. They are fitted with a conditional indicator that indicates its life-span. When the indicator is green, it represents that it is working fine and when it turns red, it indicates that the it is deteriorating. At this stage, you'll be left with no other option either to replace it or recharge it.

These days, all new cars are fitted with maintenance free batteries as it is the best alternative for ensuring your road safety and making your drive hassle free.
