We have actually experienced both men in power before. Under President Jonathan, Nigeria is under attack and cannot defend itself effectively. This is the fundamental duty of government, under General Buhari, we didn't have such a problem.

So, don't try to make it look as if you have new information for us.

I hope Nigerians know the "change" they want. Everything about this man seems wrong. From the visible hypocrisy on his face to the outright lies being sold to the public by his apologists, Nigeria would be on a long ride if he smells power.

What annoys me most are comments made by the ignorant ones down to the outright fools such as "we should try him first, then if he does not perform after 4 years we vote him out"... Like really Would you still have the avenue or opportunity to vote in 4 years time? Would it count?

Nothing beats freedom. If the people of Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Syria, et al, could have predicted the future, they would not have shouted change! Them for manage Ghadaffi and dem Mubarak... See where the change put them now.

Same mistake is happening in Nigeria and typically, we don't learn from the past. Bringing in a man that contributed to the decadent country today, guided by his co-perpetrators (Obasanjo, Atiku, Babangida) using the mantra 'change' is a mockery of our intelligence.

May your days be long oh wise one!!!

This freedom of information waited for 12yrs before it was signed into law by GEj in 2011. Why would he then gag the press again? President Goodluck Jonathan has signed into law the
Freedom of Information (FoI) Bill, awaited for 12
years by media proprietors and practitioners alike,
during which the Villa got knocks for filibustering
and lawmakers complained of bombardment by
campaigners.
The House of Representatives passed the Bill on
February 24, 2011 and the Senate dialled up
integrity on March 16 as it delivered on promise to
pass it.
The harmonised version was passed by both
Chambers on May 26, 2011.It was conveyed to
Jonathan on May 27, and he signed it on May 28,
2011, according to a statement Aso Rock issued on
Tuesday.
Two states in Nigeria (namely Ekiti and Lagos State)
have adopted the Freedom of Information Act at
State level but they have extended the response
date at State level from 7 days to 14 days. We
expect more states to adopt the bill and come up
with their own version. FOI expert and author of
Nigeria Freedom of Information Act: A
Practical Guide For Nigerians , Temitope Olodo,
on BEN TV Channel told viewers that "the
passing of the law was a victory for Nigerians all
over the world.

You mean the Nigeria where:

Salary is not regular and in some cases if you do not continue to work you lose job and finding another one will take forever

You could be shot by that police man for failure to give out N50

You could be detained for the rest of your life without seeing the four walls of a court

You could be denied a bed space regardless of the nature of your sickness if the initial fee.

You could be molested and the perpetrator could walk free

You could be buy a land which already belongs to two or more people.

The omo oniles can destroy your property because you fail to pay them

The pensioners have to wait for years or months for their pensions to be paid and yet when they finally decide to pay it. They will never pay it into their bank accounts so they will have to either borrow the transport fare to take them to the 'place' or walk all the way to collect it. They also have to line up under the fierce rain and the scorching sun for weeks before it gets to their turn.

Oh yeah, we do have LOTS of Rights and Freedoms in Nigeria.

These are historic facts . Read and make a life changing choice

1). In March 1976, the then Head of State, General Olusegun Obasanjo appointed Buhari as the Federal Commissioner (position now called Minister) for Petroleum and Natural Resources. When the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation was created in 1976, Buhari was also appointed as its Chairman, a position he held until 1978. During his tenure as Commissioner, $2,8 billion allegedly went missing from the accounts of the NNPC in Midlands Bank in the United Kingdom. Former President Ibrahim Babangida allegedly accused Buhari of being responsible for his fraud

2). Previously, Buhari has given his support for the total implementation of Sharia in the country.[67] He was quoted in 2001 as saying “I will continue to show openly and inside me the total commitment to the Sharia movement that is sweeping all over Nigeria”, he then added that; “God willing, we will not stop the agitation for the total implementation of the Sharia in the country”

Gej

In January 2013, Jonathan reportedly promised $4 million to assist in cleaning up villages that have been affected by a lead poisoning outbreak. Over 400 children have died and Human Rights Watch said that releasing the funds “could be lifesaving for countless children.

2) Undeclared Monies Flown on Private Jet to South Africa
On September 5th, 2014, South African customs officers at Lanseria Airport seized undisclosed and undeclared $9.3m stuffed in three suitcases carried on a private jet by 2 Nigerians and an Israeli.[38] Afterwards, Jonathan's government admitted to ownership of the funds and claimed it was intended for procurement of arms and ammunition. The money was not declared as required by law upon leaving Nigeria or arriving at South Africa.[39] It was later revealed the private jet used to transport the money was owned by the head of Christians Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor.[40] Jonathan's government progressed to avoid going through the South African judiciary system to reclaim the money and instead preferring to employ diplomatic and political channels directly through Jacob Zuma, the South African President, to get the money back.[41] On 25 October 2014, it was announced by the South African Ambassador to Nigeria that the money has been released to the Nigerian government.[

Removal of fuel subsidy
Main article: Occupy Nigeria
On 13 December 2011, the 2012 fiscal year's budget removed any provisions for the existing fuel subsidy.[44] According to a poll carried out by the Alliance for Credible Elections (ACE- Nigeria), 80% of Nigerians opposed the plan to remove the fuel subsidy.[45]

On 1 January 2012, the Jonathan administration announced the start of a controversial plan to end fuel subsidies.[46] Many prominent Nigerians spoke out against the removal of fuel subsidy by the Jonathan administration. Former Petroleum Minister Professor Tam David-West has spoken out and expressed concern that the planned removal of the fuel subsidy will squeeze the economy, increase inflation, and hurt both businesses and the public.[47]

A former military Head of State and a former Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources, General Buhari, urged President Jonathan not to remove the fuel subsidy and to tackle corruption.[48]

General Yakubu Gowon, another former military Head of State, warned the government that the country's infrastructure should be revived before fuel subsidy removal steps were taken.[49]

Former military president Gen. Ibrahim Babangida joined millions of Nigerians protesting against the removal of the fuel subsidy by the Jonathan administration, saying that the action is ill-timed.[50]

Following the The Nigeria Labour Congress' warning that the country faces many strikes, the country unions followed up with strikes that were matched with civil protests from 9–13 January 2012. Protesters and groups called for President Jonathan to resign over the removal of fuel subsidies.[51][52] After five days of national protests and strikes, on 16 January, Jonathan announced that the pump price of petroleum would be 97 naira per litre as against the 147 naira the planned government's removal of subsidies would have taken the price to.[53]

The Nigerian Presidency has denied the allegations of terrorism leveled against President Jonathan. A media statement was issued on 2 May 2012, acknowledging the accusations from Okah. The statement went on to say that: “The Presidency categorically affirms that these allegations are false in their entirety and without any factual foundation." The Presidency also expressed no interest in commenting further for the time being, but planned to "make a full representation on the matter to the court when the trial opens."[55][56]

Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act
In January 2014, Jonathan signed into law the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act after it was passed by the Senate and House of Representatives. The law prohibits gay relationships, membership and other involvement in gay societies and organizations and gay marriages. Penalties can be up to 14 years in prison for gay marriages and up to 10 years for other violations of the law.[

Nobody's saying Buhari is the ideal candidate for President. Heck he's 72, frail and mostly shallow on Nigeria's core issues. But what is the alternative? Another 4 years of Boko haram killings and land grab under Jonathan? Another 4 years of declining foreign reserves and massive corruption? People don't really care much about Buhari, they just want a change from the status quo, any kind of change.
Re: You Can Ban The Press If They Will Embarrass A Public Officer - Buhari by tonte(m): 6:39pm On Feb 01, 2015
you are in Buhari's mind now and you know what he as a citizen personally supports and what he does not personally support? you should be ashamed of yourself if you support the bold print because no progressive society will thrive without 100 press freedom, a thing you enjoy now which gives you the leverage to call Mr President all sorts of names without fear of punishment, before any story internationally breaks it takes a free press to say something about even without definite facts, such things trigger inquiries and then the truth is uncovered, but your support for the ancient man has retarded your thought process to the 1980's and you are not even ashamed to say it...I feel so bad for Nigerians who are on the same reasoning wavelength as you on this sort of issue

barcanista:
I don't know why people are misrepresenting and twisting the words of Gen Muhammadu Buhari. As a citizen I am 100% in support of Press freedom, so is the General. However, freedom of the Press shouldn't be absolute otherwise they will be used to cause anarchy. If the press have anything against any public officer and they are really sure about it, they should publish it and allow for Government prosecution. They have to be sure and not gossip or be used to persecute officers on the pages of newspapers. However, false reportage using "our source" that will neither give a lead nor help a cause, and also fabricating news and ascribing to public officers should not only be discouraged but should be criminalised. The Whistle Blower act should be passed/strenghtened to protect those with valuable information. The Press needs to carry their jobs with ethics and checks like other professions. All arms of government have forms of checks and balance. We need to protect government officers too from false and malicious embarrassment.

I'm always surprised when I hear young, educated Nigerians who have lived under a democratic setting for the last 16 years suggesting that one man can suddenly come and unilaterally begin to bark out decrees simply because he was once a military officer, dictator or whatever it is that Buhari was. I mean come on, are we even democratic in our own thinking? Even Obasanjo like you pointed out was brought down to size when he first came in democratically in 1999. When Baba thought he could still control everybody like he did his regiment, did the like of Okadigbo not bring him down to size. After a number of impeachment moves where instigated against him, did OBJ not calm down and understand that democracy is different from military rule?

So, Buhari will just come and ban the press and shut down social media? In a democratic dispensation? And all of us, including the Senate, National House of Reps and State Assemblies will just say yes sir. Could OBJ even control AD governors like Tinubu during his time? Abeg, stop making Buhari sound like he is one superhuman being that will just wield a wand over our heads.

Nigeria as a country has managed to wriggle herself away from that kind of tyranny and you use such a thing as some kind of reference...aren't you happy that we have this level of freedom as an Africa country? aren't you?

My Dear, you are the one swimming in Ignorance. Why did Egypt arrest Aljazeera Journalists? Why not publish false material against the Israeli Government or PM? Why not do that in the Emirate or KSA? Are we more democratic than Israel? There are publications you will make in the US, you will be invited for questioning. We have to be sincere. A government officer is different from just a private citizen. False report against officials is capable of causing panic, anarchy and even unrest. What lead to the breakdown of law and order in Gabon of recent? A report that the President is from Nigeria made people to come out to demand the fall of that government. APC supporters and GMB fanatics, was these video also fabricated by PDP to rubbish GMB?

The reason we are saying this is simple...The farther into the future you want to look is the deeper you must look in history!!!!!!!

If you decide to see the video the core issues raised by the interviewer are apt till date.

1. GMB has an utter disregard for a democratically elected govt such that he decided to overthrow the mandate of over 100million Nigerians then. In the words of the interview "who are you to make that decision for Nigerians". How then can a leopard change his spot?
2. GMB claims the country was mismanaged and that was his reason for overthrowing the Shagari Govt.
The Interviewer Queried GMB: who are you to make that decision to wit, that the country is mismanaged.
You are employed to serve and defend the state loyally as a military man.

GMB replied it is the people who appointed the then Shagari Govt. that requested he overthrew the GOVT!!!!! Unbelievable meaning the country elections were rigged in favour of the North and the same norther caucus instructed the yound Buhari should ovethrow the Shagari govt.

Given credence to the existence of Northern belief of Northern Monopoly to rule Nigeria.

What effontery!!!!!!!!

3. He claimed that the country was mismanaged but, when he was overthrown the new government claimed they overthrew is govt on account of mismanagement, high handedness and failure to reposition the country by his own officers.

Meaning he alienated his core constituency, the Army. His constituent became so estranged that they overthrew him far easily than he overthrew the civilian regime.

This is indicative that he failed in carrying along higher ranking officers.
He has no support from the officer and rank and file to be able to get wind of the coup plan.
He failed at office politics and faltered in instilling esprit de corp in the Military a smaller unit than the complex Nigeria House of Assembly.

4. The draconian decree 4 was meant to gage the press, and the interviewer cannot believe someone who simply justified bullying the press wants to enjoy the core pillar of democracy.

In his word it is utterly unbelievable, that you have changed from someone who hounded and jailed anyone who writes anything against the ruling government or embarasses the govt or its officers to someone democratic, this transition is hard to make and i do not believe you are sincere.

This is evident in your selective justice in the application of the law against corrupt officials of the democratic dispensation, such that while all other tribes and officers of other ethnics are thrown in jail freely, Shagari and some other Northern and moslem officials were placed under house arrest or pardoned with a slap on the wrist.

The interviewer is really brutal and reduced him to the despot he is.
