Dog Expert Alert! Cohabiting A Boerboel And Alsatian? by oluwarantimi(f): 9:54pm On Mar 05, 2015
Is it possible for an adult boerboel and adult alsatian to live together peacefully? Had the alsatian (female) for awhile now. The boerboel (male) came a few days ago. Although the boerboel is very gentle with humans it won't tolerate the alsatian. Immediately the boerboel was released it attacked the alsatian violently even though the alsatian didn't provoke. Want to know if it is possible they can live together peaceful or anything I can do to make them compatible. Or I should do return the boerboel. Will appreciate your suggestions.

With good socialization skills, any dog can live peacefully together and ignore any negative comments on your thread. Chain them close to each other but take cautions. Muzzle the aggressive one and walk them together daily it get someone to walk the gently guy closer to you. Do this daily and in few weeks they will be best of friends .

Bros... my uncle had a boerboel and a rottweiler... the rottweiler is older than the former by 2 years... as the boerboel grew... so did its temperament... in a nutshell... it nearly killed the rott when it turned a year and a half... both males... he had to giveaway the rott...
Since... you have a dog... why don't you breed yours with a bullmastiff or a boerboel... walk them everyday and see if they won't kill yourselves later...

To the OP... ever heard of the term 'dog eat dog...'
well that's what happens...
Re: Dog Expert Alert! Cohabiting A Boerboel And Alsatian? by doeying(m): 5:11am On Mar 06, 2015
here is my piece...
Boerboels are known to be quite jealous animals, they are also very quick to learn.... we raised our boerboel(female) and alsatian(male) together and what i can say is due to their size, they always tend to lead the park....
what i think you should do is....try to show the boerboel more love, not that you ignore the alsatian, but just to show the boerboel that its presence is not threatened, that way it would not feel jealous,,,after gaining its trust, then the training comes in....i am sure that before any attack, there is always a growling....so what you should do there is, just at that moment when it sees the other dogs and begins to growl, you snap your fingers and say "shush" authoritatively, dont shout it...that way, you distract it from the other dog and continue to play with it ...you have to keep doing this for as long as you can till the dog is almost ignorant of the other dogs presence...anytime, it wants to look at the other dog and react, snap your fingers again, say "shush" and at the same time, hit the boerboel with your foot just a little space under the belly, it would get distracted and not growl again.....you could also make the dog "sit" and continue sitting while the other dog passes by(with someone holding it tho)....
now please be informed that dogs reflect our energies and this is why its not advisable to shout when dogs fight, they fight harder....so anytime your alsatian comes a little close to the boerboel to the extent of growling, do all you can to remain calm and not expect a fight....unless your dog would see that tiny energy that you are nervous and would want to do something about the threat(the other dog).
p.s...i watch a lot of episodes of "Dog Whisperer" and all the techniques (plus all my personal experience )i have tried have all worked...
so please, educate all your family members and make sure the trianing is a continuous thing,,,not just in the night or for three weeks but until both of them can actually play with eachother....
theres room for correction from those that know better

It's not a full breed alsatian. Thanks all for your comments. Would try to get a muzzle and try doeyings suggestion for a week and hope it works cos chaining both dogs almost all the time is annoying. Hoping we won't give any away too

I'm sorry for the dogs that usually falls into the hand of someone like you, you refused to open up and learn but take pride in bragging on bad thing. I don't take things personal on here because its no point. People socialize pitbul that was bred to fight other dogs not to talk of boerbull, a very friendly and lovely breed . I have a dog that killed one of my pups in my yard living in harmony now with virtually with every dog without issue. This is for you OP, seek for a professional and you will be happy with the result.

Bro. Olu is very correct in his submission, all animals can live together irrespective of their temperament.
First, where the problem lies is in obedience training and proper socialization. People just buy dogs in this part of the world, give them food in the morning, afternoon and night for the lucky ones, put them on leash or crate them and ensure they can bark else they are termed lazy dogs.
If the OP should go through proper training as a dog handler or take her time to read and read to equip her self with the required knowledge she can actually help both of them to live together peacefully. It will be a long post, in fact a lecture to put the OP through on how to handle this situation.
"There are no bad dogs but bad owners/handlers".

Re: Dog Expert Alert! Cohabiting A Boerboel And Alsatian? by JADO93: 1:51pm On Mar 06, 2015
I believe there is no breed that can't live together peacefully... all depends on the owner/breeder... depends on the work done on them "Socialization". When dogs r properly socialized, mingling becomes easy. But when all u do is cage them, release @ night, cage again, dey don't even take a walk, what do u expect? Aggression...More over, boerboel is not a fighting dog, so some socialization can still be done, but will take time nd carefulness + experience. but please if u can't handle nd u must keep dem, keep them apart. Bur I believe if assignment is properly done, dey will make gud friends especially during heat *winks*

Please ignore all negative comments on the thread. Even the world's wildest breed can be made to live even in the same kennel with any other breed, all you need do is find out the necessary methods to get them both acquainted, to stop seeing each other as a threat...
--Never feed them in the same bowl...
--Teach them to respect each other's boundaries...
--Several session of road walks can help too...
--Treat them equally and give no preferential treatment whatsoever...
--Give them a "common enemy"...

Mastiff not even among the d dogs known for dog aggression. Out if respect, you need education on living with a dog and pls don't shy away from this , it's very important.

Next time you want to blab about dogs with me... bring your facts...
There are several breeds of
mastiffs that can be found in
Los Angeles: Mastiff, Bull
Mastiff, French Mastiff (Dogue
du Bordeaux), and the
Neopolitan Mastiff, among
others. These breeds were all
bred for the purposes of
guarding, hunting and dog fighting. They tend to be
quite intelligent, but very independent and stubborn and
very protective of their human owners. These are dogs
for very experience dog owners and can be animal
aggressive and wary of human strangers. If you think a
Mastiff or Mastiff mix is the right breed for you, here are
some websites you can use to read more about them:

Lol... you want to educate me living with dogs... Ogbeni... go and rest... because you import dogs... and sell their offspring... you tag yourself a breeder... which dog have you created... Apart from nairaland... are you known outside your state...?
Every dog owner (not all these local breeder) knows owning a dog that suits you comes with an element of luck...
Boerboels, APBT, Dogo Argentino, Fila brasilleiro, Bull terrier... the list goes on... these are products of dog crossing by breeders that dedicated their lives to creating their unique breed... you import two dogs from only God knows where... a male and a female... you cross them and you sell... then you call yourself a breeder... I just dey look all of una... you're not (FYI) qualified to talk to me about dogs... you're a bloody dog merchant... I'm a dog owner... two dogs owner... A dob/rott mix and a gsd mix and I'm proud of them...
if you are going to come at me... come at me with facts... *drops mic*

From my experience, I think the boerboel is trying to establish his leadership". If when he attacks, he always bite her in the neck, then you should remove the red collar she is wearing and put it on the boerboel.
Try it. (seriously). And thank me later
Re: Dog Expert Alert! Cohabiting A Boerboel And Alsatian? by Seun(m): 6:55pm On Mar 07, 2015
What you can do is apply a scientific approach: desensitisation and counter-conditioning. Teach the Boerboel that he will be rewarded (with treats) whenever the Alsatian is close to him, and those treats will stop coming when the Alsatian moves away from him. (Search Google for details.) However, what people who know better than me have said about Boerboels on this thread sounds right. I would return the Boerboel.

It is not possible, at least not in my home. It's been over a year now, and we've learned to keep them separated until death do them part. It's a hard job, but a big house.

Once bred a rottie, boerboel, gsd, Pitt and lhasa in the same compound and nothing happened... Their aggression was always directed towards strangers and not to one another... Anyone who says it's impossible is surely a newbie... It's very possible, only needs a little dedication and handwork.
Re: Dog Expert Alert! Cohabiting A Boerboel And Alsatian? by iPopAlomo(m): 10:18pm On Mar 08, 2015
lhasa and pit...? bros why you dey lie nah... and you kept all of them together...? you now top it with a boerboel... a picture of all of them together or #iDontBelieveIt...
