If they have a central command system, then no reason why Commanders shouldn't know where their soldiers are deployed at all times.
This could have been avoided, these areas should be marked by now and soldiers in the field should be able to call in their location or zone, that way friendly troops will know they are there.
Just a thought. If their comm isn't hijacked of course

Could it be that these terrorists have found a way to scramble and decode military communication channels?
I doubt if civilian info can be as precise and effective

One would think that by now, the Nigerian army would have had some common sense.

The Ezugwu MRAP costs about 70 million per vehicle, the ARA MRAP APC costs higher but still within that range, yet, the Nigerian army is finding it very difficult to order these vehicles in huge numbers for troops.

We only see them parading the vehicles at arms shows and what not.

Carrying soldiers in tippers is utterly disgraceful.

OVER 200 BOKO HARAM KILLED BY MILITARY BOMBARDMENT IN SAMBISA FOREST

Military Bombardments kills over 200 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Sambisa Forest, 37 Soldiers die as Army Logistics Truck carrying bombs, Artillery weapons explodes.

Air strikes and Land bombardments by Air and Land components of Operation Lafiya Dole on Buk, a Boko Haram and ISWAP Command Center inside Sambisa Forest between Saturday 21st and Monday 23rd March 2020 has led to the killing of over 200 terrorists and some of their commanders, with many of their logistics equipment and arms destroyed.

This is just as an explosion of one of the military trucks carrying bombs and other artillery weapons of the fighting troops meant for consolidation and protection of cleared strongholds captured from the terrorists, exploded unexpectedly, killing more than 30 Nigerian troops inside the forest.

Fifteen (15) of the soldiers who sustained various degree of injuries as a result of the explosion, have been evacuated to Maiduguri for medical intervention.

Sources however disclosed that the explosion of the logistics truck carrying back up bombs and ammunition for artillery fire meant to level remaining strongholds of Boko Haram/ISWAP marauders inside the forest may have been the handiwork of informants (5th Columnists) within the military who must have revealed movement of troops.

It was gathered that after surveillance and intelligence reports showed that more than 500 terrorists and their Commanders, (size of a Brigade) were operating a camp in Buk, inside Sambisa Forest and it was from there many of their attacks either suicide or ambush attacks were being organized and launched, the authorities decided to embark on a clearance operation of the Camp.

In the first wave of artillery and fighter aircraft strikes, hundreds of the terrorists were annihilated and their equipment and weaponry destroyed even as troops continued to march forward with high morale.

However, when the second wave of gallant troops began the back-up movement with a view to securing the already cleared areas in Buk, fifth columnists within the allegedly tipped Boko Haram that the back-up fighting force was coming with trucks loaded with more bombs and artillery ammunition to finish any remnant of the terrorists group hence the truck was targeted and its impact killed many of the soldiers.

Confirming the development on Tuesday, Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche said, “As you know, we are in a fluid conflict situation and our gallant troops are out there at the frontlines. Between 21 and 23 March 2020, troops of Operation Lafiya Dole, were on clearance and fighting patrol operation to Gorgi in Borno State which successfully done.

“However during consolidation they were ambushed by elements of Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT). Sadly, we suffered some casualties in the unfortunate attack.

“However the Air Component of Operation Lafiya Dole scrambled immediately and provided Close Air Support to the ground troops.

“While the Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform as well as the fighter jets engaged the Boko Haram Terrorists immobilizing, killing some of the terrorists and immobilizing a gun truck.

“Some others, who attempted to withdraw, were also mopped up by the jets in follow-on attacks.

“The Defence Headquarters commiserate with the families of our fallen gallant heroes who paid the supreme price in the course of defending our fatherland.

“We assure Nigerians that the Armed forces and other security agencies in furtherance of the objective of restoring peace and security in the North East and other parts of the country will continue to sustain the offensive against the enemies of our nation.”

#Bokoharam fighters past sunday ambushed Nigerian forces in the Alargano forest. Over 40 soldiers and 5 officers killed. A plethora of units comprising 120 battalion troops, 121 batt, Artillery units, sector 2 troops etc were on a clearance mission into #Bokoharam enclave.

There where even more high casualties in W.I.A than K.I.A in deferent theatres. One can only blame poor military public relations for not doing there jobs.

A well planned coordinated attack on chadian military..

92 Chad soldiers killed in 'deadliest' Boko Haram attack

Attack on soldiers on the Boma peninsula on Sunday lasted at least seven hours and reinforcements were also attacked.

At least 92 soldiers from Chad have been killed in the deadliest-ever attack by the Boko Haram armed group on the country's military forces, President Idriss Deby said on Tuesday.

"We lost 92 of our soldiers, non-commissioned officers and officers," the president said of the attack overnight on Sunday in Boma.

"It’s the first time we have lost so many men," he added, after visiting the site of the incident in Lac province, which borders Niger and Nigeria.

Over 20 Chadian soldiers 'killed in Boko Haram raid'

The attack on soldiers on the Boma peninsula lasted at least seven hours and reinforcements sent to help out were also hit, one soldier told AFP news agency.

He said 24 army vehicles were destroyed, including armoured vehicles and Boko Haram carried off weapons stolen from the military in speedboats.

"The enemy has hit at our defences hard in this zone," a senior officer said.

The attack is part of an expanding armed campaign in the vast, marshy Lake Chad area, where the borders of Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria converge.

INSIDE STORY: Has Boko Haram been defeated? (25:00)

Boko Haram launched an armed campaign in Nigeria in 2009 before beginning incursions in its eastern neighbours.

Earlier on Tuesday, Nigeria's military reported that scores of Nigerian soldiers were also killed in the northeastern state of Borno near the border with Chad.

The attackers used rocket-propelled grenades and other heavy weaponry in the attack on the village of Gorgi on Monday evening.

It was not immediately clear who the attackers were, but fighters from Boko Haram and the ISIL (ISIS) West Africa Province groups are active in the region.

Boko Haram has stepped up its attacks in recent months on the islands of the Lake Chad Basin.

Since 2015, countries in the area have cooperated in the Multinational Joint Force, a regional coalition engaged around Lake Chad with the help of local residents formed into vigilante groups.

Boko Haram's decade-long armed campaign has so far killed 36,000 people and displaced nearly two million in northeastern Nigeria, according to the United Nations.

Yellow Bucket Sand Tipper Lorry infantry carrier is a very unfortunate 'war equipment' in the armoury of our Nigerian Army once the pride of all W.A. Sub-Region.

Those who sweat-laboured for new military re-equipping procurement bill in process at NASS should not rest yet, they need to push for proper transport vehicles for soldiers, assets fit for high risk CT-COIN engagement mobility.

Even if it's poor man category dirt cheap transporters like these Cameroonian Army's China made low cost Poly Technologies Type 07P IFV with the killer 30 mm + 7.62 mm combo, we just add easy anti-RPG (simple cage or lightweight composite applique) and it gives us an okay modern game changer to win us this infinity forever war as it transports our soldiers like valuable human beings fighting for all Nigerians.

We thank all our local Nigerian producers, they are really trying but they cannot yet for now locally produce made in Nigeria Hi-Tech fully stabilized 30mm automatic rapid fire chain gun, long range thermal vision night fighting sensor, laser range finder, ballistic computer, battlefield management systems, smoke discharging canisters, long range radio communications, GPS Navigation, collective NBC protection, add-on composite armour resistant to 25mm ammo, 360° all-round periscopes & vision blocks, amphibious 8 x 8 all wheel drive IFV, so let's not kid ourselves with ARA or EZUGWU in this new age of BH ISWA killing 92 battle experienced Chadian troops in just 7 hours firefight, looting armoury of the highly capable Chadian Army's frontline base.

Abi we are still waiting for other countries to spend their own money and donate battalions of IFV free to us?

Victor Banjo and his family, 1962.

Lieutenant-Colonel Victor Adebukunola Banjo, the first Nigerian Director of the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Corps of the Nigerian Army, joined the Army in 1953 as Warrant Officer 52 and was the 16th Nigerian to be commissioned an officer.

Banjo was killed by a firing squad of Biafran soldiers acting on Biafra's Head-of-State Chukwuemeka Ojukwu's orders on September 22, 1967. He was alleged to have staged a coup plot against Ojukwu. It took a second military tribunal judge to sentence Banjo because Ojukwu's first military judge stated that there wasn't enough evidence to convict Victor Banjo of coup charges.

As he was being hit, Banjo yelled and screamed "I'm not dead yet!" with four more shots fired to ensure his death.

He left behind his Sierra Leonean wife, Taiwo and four children. He was 37.

His sister, 93-year-old Felicia Adetowun Ogunsheye is Nigeria's first female professor and consequently the first female professor of Library and Information Science in Nigeria.
