THERE are intelligent reports from security sources of the alleged establishment of new bases by terrorists in some parts of Yobe and Adamawa states.

It was learnt that the terrorists established hideouts in Geidam and some other parts of Yobe State.

A security source listed other new bases of the insurgents as Tarmuwa and Yunusari local governments areas of Yobe State; Mubi, Madagali and Gombi local government areas of Adamawa State.

Meanwhile, suspected Boko Haram terrorists, on Tuesday, attacked Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, abducting three personnel of the Nigeria Customs Services.

The suspected terrorists drove into the town around 5.30pm through Geidam Mane Shuwa Road and operated for about two hours.

They were said to have broken into stores and drugs shops, looted foodstuffs and stole large quantity of drugs and burnt down an ambulance belonging to the general hospital in Geidam.

It was gathered that though there was no civilian casualty, a credible security source, who spoke with The PUNCH in Damaturu, said, “The terrorists, who are operating around these areas, have since forced some villagers to move out of their homes and relocate to their relatives in Geidam town for safety.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Yobe State Police Command, Abdulkarim Dungus, confirmed the attack on Geidam.

He also stated that three officers of the NCS, who were recently posted to Yobe from Bauchi State, were abducted at their checkpoint by the insurgents after they had left the town.

At least two people died on Thursday in a clash between the operatives of the Ondo State Security Network known as Amotekun and armed herders.

The incident, PREMIUM TIMES learnt, occurred at Ago Sanusi, along Ute Road in Owo, headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of the state.

Sources told our correspondent that the herdsmen had earlier clashed with farmers which led to a “call on Amotekun operatives for intervention”.

Amotekun operatives reportedly got to the scene and were attacked by herdsmen. These led to the death of a farmer and a vigilante.

“One farmer and a vigilante attached to the Amotekun during the clash were shot in the head(s) by herdsmen and both of them are dead now,” Supo Ojo, a resident told PREMIUM TIMES.

This newspaper also gathered from sources within the Amotekun organization that an official known as Oluwasesan Adebayo got missing during the incident and his whereabouts was still unknown as of the time of filing this report.

When contacted, the state Commander of the Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the incident.

“Amotekun was called yesterday by some farmers that herdsmen had invaded the forest and our men went there to douse tension. A vigilante and a farmer lost their lives in the process,” he said.

Asked about the missing Amotekun operative, he simply said “nobody is missing in Amotekun”.

The state police spokesperson, Tee-Leo Ikoro, did not respond to PREMIUM TIMES calls and text messages as of press time.

This incident occurred days after Ondo Amotekun said it arrested two armed herdsmen and 200 cows in the state.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and other South-west governors, two weeks ago, banned under-aged grazing, night grazing and movement of cattle along highways.

Nigerian Man Breaks 102-Year-Old Record In UK

The year 2021 is seeing Nigerians record outstanding achievements and also getting recognised for those feats.

The latest Nigerian to be in this mix is Joel Ele-Ojo Adams. Joel, on Thursday, February 11, will receive from the Queen of England one of the highly respected and prestigious honours in United Kingdom for his amazing contributions and research work that have come in handy for the UK military.

The young man, according to Niger Delta Connect, graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in
He is the first non-British to be commissioned as an Aero-Systems Specialist Engineer to the rank of a Flying Officer in the British Air Force, since the formation of the British Air Force in 1918.

Posting about the good news on his Facebook wall on Friday, February 5, the first class graduate wrote:

“My Sword of honor arrived this evening, in prep for next week!

“By this time next week, I will be receiving of one of the most respected and highly prestigious honours in the land, awarded by Her Majesty, the Queen. This is humbling!

“I was emotional this evening as I reflect on my journey – the humble beginning, the sacrifices, the grace of God, and the accomplishments.

“It is not so much about the accomplishment as it is about where I’m coming from. Boy-o-boy, this barrack pikin has come very far o! Only those of my background will understand.

I am now convinced that the "tactical withdrawal" of the Nigerian military is actually a valid and reasonable strategy.
It happened in marte, several terrorists ended up dead.
The terrorists attacked Askira Uba few days ago, they faced little resistance as they advanced into the town, they even went as far as looting an armoury and burning a church, out of 40-50 of them that attacked the town, more than 30 of their corpses were discovered.

The army now simply withdraws whenever there is an attack luring the terrorists into a kill-zone, wait for air support to arrive and when the terrorists start running in disarray, the army counterattacks maximizing the casualties on the part of the terrorists with little to no casualties on the part of the army.
The problem with this tactic is that a lot of equipment are lost, either the terrorists becomes successful in carting them away or the airforce destroys them. The army should find a way to empty the armoury while withdrawing.

Check this thread for more info on the attack.

Nice one @whyem15, in my own opinion the tactics his working for them well. The only problem I have his loosing scarce military hardware, we need to work hard and improve on this tactics.
Anyways the jf17 and drone would go along way in assisting them.

The military would have Expired and defective ammos and munitions in their storage. Some of them could be used for such decoys.
In the end, the NAF destroys it's targets and the ammos.
Those carted away automatically become useless except if they can re-engineer them for other purposes which I doubt Boko Haram can

JF-17 is just status update, nothing more, there is no new capability they will bring to this war that we don't already have. Except maybe the targeting pods. They will be largely used for interdiction operations which the Alpha jets, F7-NI and the trainers are already performing. What's worse, the small number we brought means at least one will be on standby at all times, one may be under going maintenance while 1-2 will be deployed for operations most times. The drones and the tucanos are a different topic entirely. They will boost the war efforts.

You will be amazed at how professional these terrorists are when it comes to improvising. That is what they are using to sustain their operations. Those in the middle east are manufacturing their own guns, drones, missiles etc. Giving them any type of ammunition whether defective or expired is tantamount to giving them resources. They will find their ways around it.

They use street light poles to make their IEDs.

I bet to differ with you on these ?
The targeting Pods it self will bring more devastating effect, plus the all day & weather capabilities. The drones and Super Tucanos means no hiding place for BHT.
All of these incoming assets if properly utilized with check BHT text move.

The JF-17 doesn't really bring any new capability with don't currently posses, I also agree that they would be used mainly for interdiction.

The Tucanos, MI-35M and Drones are the real game changers.

I agree with this completely, that's why I'm of the opinion that we stop at 3 JF-17s Block 2's, while we wait for the Block 3 to mature and go for those instead.

We need to get at least 18 JF-17 Block 3s.

12 additional MI-35M and minimum 6 more MI-17 helicopters.

MI-35M helicopters are able to deliver PGM

Same as the CH-3A

When the Super Tucanos comes they would be able to deploy

If this country is eventually tipped into crisis, it will be the silence of the President coupled with the irresponsibility of the media that will be the cause. There has always been ethnic sentiments and rivalry in this country but for a while now, the media has been fanning the flames of ethnic division and conflict. Blaming entire ethnic groups for the crime of a few. Naming entire tribes as the perpetrators of the crime commited by few. Dishing out fake news with capabilities of causing death and destruction. Ever since newspapers became outdated and the media groups were forced to move online, they stopped caring about credibility, ethics and fact-checking became history. They rush to publish whatever information they can lay their hands on in a bid to get enough traffic while competing with influencers and social-media accounts.
The government too has been foolishly out of touch with reality. They don't even care about these little things that matters a lot when combined together.

Now there is killings of innocent people that started as anti-fulani Sentiments promoted by the media. One can only pray it won't lead to the cycle of violence being experienced in Southern Kaduna.
