Despite Missing Jet, NAF Airstrikes Eliminate ISWAP Leaders, Dozens of Fighters

In well-coordinated airstrikes and artillery fires, the Nigerian military eliminated top leaders of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and scores of their fighters in Borno State.

The brutal and precision-guided airstrikes were conducted by the undeterred Air Task Force is coming a week after the missing of NAF’s Alpha jet.

PRNigeria gathered that the airstrikes targeted at three major ISWAP hideouts at Kusuma, Sigir in Ngala and Arijallamari in Abadam Local Government Areas, neutralized the two terrorist leaders Amir Abu-Rabi and Mohamer Likita and dozens of their bodyguards and fighters.

While Abu-Rabi coordinated tax collection on behalf of the ISWAP in Lake Chad, Likita is among commanders coordinating attacks on military formations.

The air raids were coordinated by the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole in conjunction with the Artillery Fire Units of Sectors 3, Multi-National Joint Task Force(MNJTF).

A military intelligence officer told PRNigeria that Kusuma is a coordinating base of the ISWAP leaders while Sigir and Arijallamari were training camps for terrorists.

The source said: “The attacked locations, especially Kusuma and Sigir were notorious havens used by ISWAP for coordinating and training fighters on preemptive attacks on military positions and civilian areas.

“Some of the recent attacks at Damasak, Malam Fatori, Munguno, Dikwa and Marte axis were coordinated from the areas.

“The airstrikes and artillery bombardments on the ISWAP camps have pushed the surviving and wounded terrorists to Jibularam and Sabon Tumbu riverbank areas.”

Meanwhile, Nigerian Troops with the support of Civilian JTF have ambushed terrorists at the Gubio-Magumeri axis.

The troops set a trap at Kareram Village when they got intelligence of motorcycle-riding terrorists advancing from Malam Yaumari Village for an attack.

While some of the terrorists were killed others escaped with serious injuries.

Items removed from the terrorists included sophisticated weapons and motorcycles among others

The new NIGERIA AIR FORCE power

Giovanni Di Gregorio

Score card FPR the NAF Nigeria Air Force will be a ''B+'.

By Giovanni Di Gregorio

By December 2020 the NAF, ranked 4th in Africa will be the most prolific in sub sahara Africa with a diverse array of platforms. It will have the largest combat helicopter fleet, ISR aircrafts, a small number of 4th Gen fighters complimented by

12 A-29 Super Tucano's,

16 Alpha Jet E variants acquired in the ‘80s and around

20 Alpha Jet A ground attack jet,

13 Aero L-39 ZA Albatross,

4 armed attack drone.

10 Mi-24Vs,

20 Mi-35Ps,

12 brand new MI-35Ms

6 Augusta ''Power'' attack helicopters.

10 Pakistani Super Mushshak trainers,

2 Bell 412,

4 EC-135 and over a dozen Agusta Westland helicopters.

In addition to 4 Chinese built CH-3 rainbow attack drones and indigenous Gulma|Tsaigumi UAV are in service, along with Austrian DA-42 Twin Star light patrol aircraft

ATR-42 maritime patrol aircraft, Super Puma, MI-17 and Beechcraft Super King Air 350i ISR-optimised turboprop aircraft. Service operable aircraft increased from about 36 per cent in 2015 to between 78 and 82 per cent currently.

This contributed to the Air Task Force in Operation Lafiya Dole’s ability to, from June 1 2015 to October 31 2019, fly 61,852 flight hours in 39,807 day and night sorties including close air support, strike, ISR and humanitarian support missions.

However, despite these improvements, the NAFstill faces significant challenges in asserting aerial supremacy over the terrain, despite BHT air defence capabilities being limited to varied calibre anti-aircraft guns including ZSU-23-4 quad-barreled ''Shilka''

This is due to the size of the terrain, lack of precision guided and stand-off weapons, plus a lack of systems to set up and maintain an integrated kill-chain from finding the enemy to maintaining ISR presence over him, to ultimately finishing him off and gathering intelligence to be exploited for analysis purposes. The JF-17 multi-role fighter and A-29 Super Tucano solves this problem instantly. One kinda wishes we had these platforms much earlier. But one has to give credit to the NAF. It is doubtful any other nation could have pulled off what the NAF did with the platforms at its disposal. Nigeria’s counter insurgency area of operations covers the three northeastern states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe, thats over 125,000 square kilometres of land area.

This complex terrain encompasses the Nigerian side of Lake Chad with hundreds of islands, the massive Sambisa Forest Area, the Gwoza Hills, and the Mandara Mountains range which mostly hem in the region from the east. Massive aerial bombardment began July-September 2013 with the NAF employing Mi-35P Hind attack helicopters, in the opening salvo of what was evolving into a campaign of aerial bombardment against Boko Haram held territory. This operation was to be named Operation Zaman Lafiya.

The air component was under Boko Haram threat to and rotary-wing operations, with Mi 24V/Mi-35P attack helicopters, F-7NI and Alpha Jets coming under enemy anti-aircraft fire of up to 30mm caliber, forcing them to fly higher in order to deliver strike packages.

What the NAF did next is funny. The NAF began to fit longer-range rockets, removed from its MiG-21s, onto the attack helicopters. By August 2014, the Nigerian air force had carried out 2,468 ground-attack missions against Boko Haram, in addition to conducting 1,443 surveillance missions with its DA-42s, ATR-42s and King Air 350Is, plus 1,479 airlift transport missions. The MI-35P helicopters alone flew over 900 combat sorties. This does not include providing air support to the regional MNJTF’s Operation.

Between Dec. 25, 2015 and the end of January 2016, the NAF conducted 286 strike missions against BHT targets, for a total of 536 flight hours. During the 18 months between July 2015 and mid-January 2017, the NAF carried out 2,105 missions across the entire aerial spectrum.

Perhaps more impressive is that the NAF suffered relatively few losses directly related to the Combat. Two Chengdu F-7Nis, one Alpha Jet, two Mi-35Ps, one A109LUH, and at least two Mi-17s have been shot down or destroyed in accidents over active battlefields.

The NAF has come a long way to become the largest and most combat experienced air force in Sub Sahara Africa, surpassing every country in capital and strategic assets and highly sophisticated ISR gathering platforms. It could be much better given Nigeria's resources though.

Nigerian Military Invade Benue Community, Kill Over 30 Villagers, Set Ablaze Monarch Palace, 200 Houses

At least 50 unarmed civilians have been allegedly killed by military men in Shangev-Tiev, Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State following reports that two soldiers were missing in the community, multiple sources told SaharaReporters on Thursday.

SaharaReporters gathered that the soldiers went missing during a routine patrol in the community days after a communal crisis between towns in Konshisha and Oju LGAs.

According to reports, three soldiers were initially missing but one of them was later found.

It was learnt that troops of the Operation Whirl-Stroke (OPWS) on Wednesday and Thursday morning invaded the community.

The operation, which involved deployment of military helicopters using missile launchers, left scores of unarmed civilians dead and property said to worth billions of naira destroyed.

About 200 houses including the palace of Tyoor Unaha Kôkô in Agidi and several cars in village, which is now deserted were set ablaze by the soldiers.

Narrating the dastard act to SaharaReporters, a youth leader said, “We have lost over 50 unarmed civilians, more than five of my family members have been killed by the Nigerian Army. There are no bandits in Shangev-Tiev, a military General in Makurdi is using the Army to support his tribe in an age-long war over boundary demarcation.

“For over 3 days now, unarmed civilians have come under Nigeria military attack non-stop. Fulanis controlling the Armed Forces of Nigeria are assisting their numerous footsoldiers mobilised by Miyetti Allah in terrorising the civilians.

“They keep killing and destroying properties. How can you use fighter jet on harmless and armless citizens while negotiating ransom with bandit and terrorists?

“As we talk now, most residents have deserted their homes and are taking refuge at Tse- Agbaragba.”

Another resident asked the government to redeploy the soldiers ravaging the community to the various highways where the Boko Haram and herdsmen are presently terrorising and killing Nigerians.

He said, “Its quite sad amidst insecurity in other parts of Benue, Konshisha will be targeted by security personnels. My village has been reduced to ashes for no reason. This is not a Boko Haram. There is massive destruction and killing spree going on. The aged, women and children are not left out, among those killed and displaced. What human sense would warrant such attack and destruction?

“For days now, our people have been under flames, displaced and are massacred.“

Another resident said, “My grandfather's house is in ruins, I hear. 2001, the Army burnt my fathers village and murdered my people. 20 years later, the Army is burning down my mothers home. 20 years after Zaki Biam, the Army has returned to Benue in the same fashion. This is not the way to go.”

Meanwhile, Governor Samuel Ortom has pledged to return peace to Konshisha and Oju while briefing journalists after an expanded Security Council Meeting with stakeholders from the two local government areas.

Ortom, who reiterated the need for Benue people to support security agents deployed to end crisis in their areas, admonished the people against attacks on security agents, which would make the situation extremely difficult to contain.

He explained that as part of measures to nip the land dispute between Konshisha and Oju in the bud, it was agreed that the boundary be demarcated and a day was fixed for the exercise.

According to the governor, a few days to the agreed date, crisis erupted again and security agents were deployed to control its escalation when the troops sent to Konshisha came under attack with two military personnel still missing.

Ortom condemned the practice of some communities engaging militia to fight their neighbours. He, however, vowed that such merchants of violence would be made to face the consequences of their actions.

NIGERIA SPACE FORCE

Nigeria’s Defense Space Administration (DSA) played host to the U.S. Secretary of Air Force, Barbara Barrett who is currently visiting African allies to develop new partnerships. During the visit, Barrett introduced the first-ever collaboration between the United States Air Force (USAF) and the DSA.

Barrett’s visit to Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, happened between January 4 and 5, 2021, where she was received by members of Nigeria’s legislative parliament, the National assembly, and senior military officials at the Ministry of Defense, which hosts the DSA.

In a statement made available by the U.S. embassy and consulate in Nigeria, Secretary Barrett’s visit highlighted the positive trajectory of the military cooperation between the U.S. and Nigeria. Her discussions covered a range of defence and security matters of mutual interest, including the 2021 delivery of the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft. On the partnership with the DSA, she conveyed the importance of addressing the novel security challenges in space. Noting that the U.S. Space Force recently marked its first anniversary following its establishment last year, Barrett initiated a bilateral engagement on the necessity of developing a long-term vision for security cooperation in space.

The statement disclosed further that the U.S would deliver 12 A-29 Super Tucano aircraft as scheduled in 2021. Along with the delivery, the U.S will train 60 Nigerian military pilots, instructors, and aircraft maintenance specialists over 24 months. The Nigerian pilots will train on the same aircraft they will fly in combat operations against insurgent groups and terrorist organisations.

Secretary Barrett also was briefed by the Ministry of Defence and the Nigerian Armed Forces on their continuing efforts to strengthen military professionalism through programs such as Air Ground Integration (AGI). Through AGI, the Nigerian Air Force plans to increase both its tactical and operational competencies. The training that enhances these competencies will also address the laws that govern armed conflict and respect for international human rights in ways aimed at reducing the risk of civilian harm.

Even though I agree with you that Nigeria is not a united country. But, why can't igbos stop voting APC, PDP and APGA. People should com together and create a party which is main and only manifesto will be to leave Nigeria before 2030. Imagine the numbers of people that came out to vote in the last NA assembly election in Abia state. I don't think they were up to 20k sef, in a city we have more than 200k voters.

It will be so hard if not impossible for INEC to rig if thousands of people come out to vote for such a party in aba which main goal and objective is to leave Nigeria before 2030.

Though I think is the fault of the Federal Government, State Government in the south east, Nigerian military personnel and paramilitary personnel that IPOB took up arms.

If not for the Fulani heardsmen menace, there won't have been the existence of the UGM too.

I can assure you that most Yorubas have talked to here in Lagos do not give a dam if igbos leave Nigeria or if Nigeria keep on existing or not.

Since the first week of March, I've not been using power supply for up to 1hrs in a day. From the third week till April 3, I no dey see light at all at all. There was no explanation or any word from the power distribution company. For 2am on the 4th, dem start to dey bring am between 12am sometimes 11pm, before 4am dem go don take am again.

Shey nah this kin useless country you go com feel say we go dey give a dam if anybody wan leave or not

Igbos should create a political party that is main and objectives will be all about leaving Nigeria.

My humble opinion cool

And I still feel IPOB should be negotiated with. Because If we are to go the hard way, BSN will have the upper hand.

The Nigerian military have not been able to defeat any armed group since 1999.

They couldn't defeat MEND and Avengers, they have not been able to defeat Boko Haram since 2009, they have not been able to defeat ISWAP.

The only thing have been seeing them doing is attacking, brutalising and killing armless civilians since 1999 like we saw in Odi, Zaka Biam, Massacring of shittes in Kaduna, shooting at unarmed civilians in lekki.

ariesbull:

I just look at them talking here and posting trash here on this forum ...all I see is but this tank, buy this gun, but this gunship buy this gunboat ...kill this amd those that are killed

The average black man think with his anus...very sentimental folks....in normal races...they deploy force only when dialogue have failed but here they deploy force before dialogue...that is what distinguishes the other races and blacks

The clowns here keep proving me right...have they even called ESN and all these guys welding guns etc for a meeting or dialogue and ask what is it that you want

I am seeing here as a place for anarchists and pyromaniacs

Nobody has called for a peaceful resolution and dialogue ? Can't we have a chat as a nation and ask for a way forward ? These are what makes one matured.

We don't need war ? We don't need fight? We need peace ? If they want to have autonomy for us to have peace . SO be it

We are loosing investors, global confidence etc due to these ! Let's eschew tribalism , what I am seeing here are tribalism

It's only here I gear crazy thing like Unity in Diversity....how can you he united still have diversity ...madness

Its crazy the way the average black man thinks...and they keep proving me right....

No wonder the black race is laughed at by other races and at lowest end of the racial pole

They are bragging buying equipments...how many have they produced? Other militaries in the world produce some of their equipments....but the black man in Nigeria will never think and go into R & D

Only gragra....it's a shame ...big shame , they are disgracing us reasonable blacks

I just hope NA has plans for support and recovery vehicles for the tanks and MRAPs they plan to get. And also spare parts..... The number one cause of loss of these platforms is lack of maintenance. Most of the armored vehicles and tanks ISWAP/JAS destroyed were abandoned because they are not movable (either engine problems or got stuck). The PHANTOM II is a recent example. The T72s are still supposed to be dominating the battlefield but lack of maintenance has rendered most useless. There are several hundreds vehicles (armored and unamored) in NAs arsenal but they are mostly unoperational because they can't be moved.

BBC News

the military use live ammunition and deadly force against pro-Biafra protesters who are campaigning for an independent state..

Amnesty's report is based on interviews with almost 200 people, alongside more than 100 photographs and 87 videos.

Among the allegations contained in the report are what Amnesty called "extrajudicial executions", when 60 people were shot and killed in south-eastern Onitsha city, in the two days surrounding Biafra Remembrance Day in May 2016.

"This reckless and trigger-happy approach to crowd control has caused over 1500 deaths, and we fear the actual total are far higher" said Makmid Kamara, Amnesty's interim director for Nigeria.

Other victims detailed in the report include a 26-year-old man who was shot in Nkpor, but hid in a gutter, still alive. He said when soldiers found him, they poured acid over him, and told him he would die slowly.

Another woman said she had been speaking to her husband on a mobile phone when he told her he had been shot in the abdomen. He was calling from a military vehicle, she said, and she heard gunshots. She later found his body in a morgue with two more wounds in his chest, leading her to believe he had been executed after the call.

'Unimaginable atrocities'
The human rights organisation said pro-Biafra protests had been "largely peaceful" despite occasional incidents of protesters throwing stones and burning tyres -

"Regardless, these acts of violence and disorder did not justify the level of force used against the whole assembly."

It is this heavy-handed approach, say human rights groups, that is inflaming the tensions.

How many ideological armed groups have been defeated by only force all over the world in the last 30 years?

Tension In Benue Community As 10 Missing Soldiers Are Found Dead

No fewer than 10 troops of Nigerian Army and one military police officer have been found dead in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State.

The development generated tension in the community as the army authorities deployed troops to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

In a statement made available to journalists, Nigerian Army spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Yerima, confirmed the killings of the troops by yet-to-be-identified individuals.

Yerima explained that the bodies of slain troops were immediately evacuated, adding that efforts are ongoing to track down those who perpetrated the crime in order to bring them to justice.

He said, ”Nigerian Army troops operating in Benue State came under attack while on routine operational task.

”The troops comprising one officer and ten soldiers were initially declared missing which prompted the deployment of a joint search and rescue team comprising NA troops and personnel of Operation Whirl Stroke.

”The search and rescue team unfortunately found all the missing troops dead in Konshisha LGA of Benue State.

”While the bodies of the slain troops were evacuated immediately, efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators of this heinous crime with a view to bringing them to Justice.”

The Nigerian Army, however, appealed to the public to volunteer useful information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

Yerima maintained that Army remains determined to ensure that the unprovoked attack does not disrupt the general peace being enjoyed by the local inhabitants.

According to him, the COAS has directed commanders on the ground to ensure sustained efforts in order to fish out and deal decisively with these bad elements who are threatening the peace in the area.

Daily Trust reports that Benue, which has been a hotbed of clashes, has been enjoying relative peace in recent times.

An armed group ambushed some Nigerian soldiers. Instead of going after the attackers, they are killing armless civilians and burning Nigerian citizens properties.

NTA is the FG TV station, let them go to that town in Benue and prove Sahara reporter wrong.

Even with video evidence, the Nigerian army told us they were not in lekki. Sahara reporter don't need to hear their part.
