DHQ EXPLORES REGIONAL COOPERATION AGAINST TRANS-BORDER CRIMES

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin has restated the Armed Forces commitment to protect Nigeria’s borders against trans-border crimes and to checkmate the security challenges in the North East posed by remnants of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

The CDS made this known Wednesday at the opening ceremony of the Meeting of Multinational Joint Military Technical Cooperation between Benin, Burkina Faso, Togo, Niger and Nigeria on Joint Border Protection. He pointed out that no effort will be spared to contain trans-border criminal activities. He expressed Defence Headquarters’ (DHQ) readiness to partner the French Military that is providing technical assistance to the Cooperation in order to protect the West African borders in the fight against terrorism.

The CDS, who was represented by the Director Training DHQ, Rear Admiral Jonathan Ango, said countries must work together to ensure the security of its people and borders. He appreciated the French Government and other French speaking countries for their tremendous support in the area of intelligence sharing, training and fight against terrorism.

He assured the meeting that the Armed Forces of Nigeria would be doing its best to ensure that trans-border crimes are reduced to minimum. He noted that terrorism transcends borders and urged all regional countries to collaborate in the elimination of terrorist activities.

U.S. Fighter jets Bombs Al Shabaab Bases in Southern of Somalia

Somali commandos unity backed by US Special Forces with helicopters bombed Al shabaab bases at Omar Beere location in lower shabelle region of Somalia overnight. Local residents said the missiles fired by the warplanes on struck the fighters' outpost.

"We heard several blasts on the outskirts of Omar beere location near Tooratoorow overnight. We can't confirm how many people died in the attacks," said local resident Hussein Mohamed.

It is not immediately clear the damages caused by the strike. There is no comment from Somali government and US forces in Somalia. Early this week, Somali rebel group al-Shabab says it has siezed an armed drone after it crashed in Somalia's lower shabelle region.

The unmarked drone, came down in the Bariire town in lower shabelle region, in an area controlled by the al-Qaeda-linked armed group. The terror group has a strong base in southern Somalia and the government of Somalia has always accused the group of attacks on residents in the area.

Kenya and US jets have often carried out attacks against the unlawful group.

In a report published by pro-al shabaab website, the attack has resulted from a remote-controlled land mine targeted the KDF convoy it was travelling between Hawina and Tabta villages in southern Somalia.

Al shabaab said it burnt down an armored personnel carrier in the devastating roadside bomb on KDF military convoy. Kenyan military did not comment so far Al shabaab's claim of killing four KDf soldiers.

Apart from protection of convoys through hostile corridors, they are scouts/trackers. I don't think they are bikes brigade are meant to carry out any special ops "to my extent that I know of".

But I know they are well trained when it comes to desert terrain and handling of bykes and some AFSF are embedded in them. One of there successes is thwarting enemy positions & movement and like wise suicide bombers entering our major cities/IDP camps.
