Definitely, it wasn't AK that brought it down, they want to deceive the people by not disclosing the fact that, the Aircraft was gun down by AA.

A terrorist group will not waste time to show the pictures of the AA Gun if it shot down the aircraft, it will be a thing of pride for them

Undertaking a CASEVAC is the Mi-17 not meant to be armed since it has attack capabilities?
Though not completely certain, US transport helos don't operate with attack helicopters as support or they are fitted with light attack capabilities.

It can be configured for attack as the mission demands but in the his case it was a CasVec where weight and payload comes in to consideration too.

According to what I gathered, reinforcements were been ferried to the location too.

If a Casevac helo is armed beyond MGs then they must be going only to pick up 1 or 2 guys. Weight concerns is a priority

However proper attack helicopters ought to follow the transport helos as standard procedure

But truth is all that can go wrong in combat, will go wrong

Very sad.......I never knew Ak rounds could bring down such massive choppers.
I used to think the underbelly comes armoured and can withstand such.
I really really detest rotor crafts.....they are like the okadas of the sky.
Very unpredictable.......RIP to the dead.

AK didn't bring the chopper down because at 5000ft in which the aircraft was flying is almost impossible for AK 47 to bring it down prolly a GPMG.. It's not even yet certain that it was shot down by bandits ignore the propaganda video from Dogo Gide and co for now.

Overall the incident is very unfortunate but truth is that one can't run away from Aviation mishaps once in a while especially when flying sorties on a steady. You can follow everything in the books, cross all Is and Ts and still suffer air mishap.

The military official speaks of a helicopter and yet this media report mentions "fighter jet". When are we going to get defence-literate journalists on this continent?

EUROPEAN UNION SUPPORT MNJTF WITH TWENTY NAUTICAL PLATFORMS
In a significant boost to regional security, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has received support from the European Union for twenty nautical platforms via COGINTA, a peace and security Non-Governmental Organization. The support for the nautical platforms was presented on 18 August 2023 during a ceremony held in N'Djamena, Chad.
While receiving the platforms, the Force Commander of MNJTF, Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, stated that the support highlighted the continued global commitment towards countering insurgency and fostering sustainable peace across the region.
General Ali described the support as a collective desire for peace, stability, and prosperity in the Lake Chad Basin region. He acknowledged further assistance from COGINTA and the EU in building the capacity of potential operators of the platform in enhancing navigation skills and maintenance.
In his remarks, the representative of the EU Ambassador to Chad, Thierry Marotte, stated that the importance the EU places on peace, security, and development necessitates its support for MNJTF. He added that the EU has been providing various support to the mission to ensure a peaceful and prosperous Lake Chad Basin Region.
The support from the EU through COGINTA demonstrates the international community's commitment to the collective effort of bringing peace and stability to the region. The nautical platforms will provide the MNJTF with increased mobility and operational capabilities by improving patrols and control of the Lake Chad islands, which have often been used as hideouts by insurgent groups. The Force Commander expressed optimism that the delivery of these platforms will significantly enhance the MNJTF's ability to combat terrorism and secure the region.

Hundreds of ex-Boko Haram, protest, block road to demand N30,000 allowance

Hundreds of Nigerian Boko Haram terrorists who are being held at Hajj camp in Borno State after surrendering rioted on Friday over N30,000 allowances promised by Government.

The ex-militant blocked the Bulumkutu- Maiduguri Highway creating gridlock and tension among residents in the area.

The incident illustrated the sensitive task which authorities face in re-inserting former fighters back into communities that have often suffered from years of attacks and kidnappings during a 13-year Islamist insurgency.

Repentant Insurgents

Biometrics for repentant insurgents resume after Friday’s incident

With normalcy restored, officials of Borno State Government have on Friday resumed the biometrics data capture of repentant Boko Haram insurgents.

A total of 6,900 repentant insurgent are processed under the multi-agency framework of Disarmament, Demobilisation, Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation, Reconciliation and Reintegration (DDDRRR) otherwise known as the "Borno Model."

The data processing process was scheduled to be conducted in 6 Batches by by a certified team of intelligence and ICT experts with utmost level of professionalism and confidentiality in data management.

However, due to a bridge in communication, those who were supposed to appear for the data capture at a later date appeared today, Friday, August 18, 2023, and this led to confusion at a camp where the exercise was being conducted.

The Borno State Government wishes to assure the public that the situation is under control and normalcy has been restored at the venue of the biometric exercise.

IMBIBE THE WARRIOR ETHOS DURING OPERATION - Maj Gen GU Chibuisi Charges Troops...Pays Maiden visit to Sector 3 OPHK
The Theatre Commander (TC) Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Major General GU Chibuisi has charged troops of Sector 3 OPHK to remain professional in their conduct and imbibe the warrior ethos in the ongoing Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency (CTCOIN) Operations within the Sector's Area of Responsibility, particularly the fringes of the Lake Chad.
Major General Chibuisi gave this charge during his maiden operational and familiarization visit to Sector 3 Area of Responsibility (AOR) on 16 August, 2023.
On arrival at Mogonu the Sector Headquarters, the Theatre Commander who was received by the Sector Commander Maj Gen POA Okoye, commissioned the remodelled Sector 3 Quarter Guard in which he also inspected before heading to the operations room where he was briefed on the operational activities of the Sector.
Prior to his visit to Formations and Units under Sector 3 OPHK, Major General Chibuisi visited Sector 3 'Hall of Fame' where he laid a wreath in honour of fallen heroes of the Sector. WE WILL NOT GIVE IN TO TERRORISTS’ PROPAGANDA
The attention of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has been drawn to a video circulating on social media platforms allegedly depicting the wreckage of the crashed MI-171 helicopter with bodies of victims at Chukuba Village in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. While it is not in the character of the NAF to respond to such claims, particularly one peddled by terrorists, concerns expressed by well-meaning Nigerians on the need to address the propaganda becomes imperative.
Like all military organizations involved in counterinsurgency and counterterrorism operations, incidences of fatalities, mishaps and crashes are sometimes inevitable. For the NAF, the last 8 years has seen an increased level of air operations in efforts at checkmating the nefarious activities of terrorists and criminal elements in the country. With heightened levels of air operations, occasioned by an enhanced fleet, the likelihood of air mishaps and accidents at times become unavoidable and inevitable due to various reasons. Indeed, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar said this much when he hosted Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State, yesterday 15 August 2023, at his office where he noted that the rates of aircraft accidents/incidences are directly proportional to the heightened level of air operations. While the NAF regrets such unfortunate incidents, especially as they involve the loss of lives of our colleagues, the Service will never shy away from unravelling the probable cause of the crash with a view to drawing lessons.
For those aiding and abetting the propaganda tendencies of terrorists, deliberately or inadvertently, by spreading the videos of the alleged crash site with gory pictures of dead military personnel, the need to rethink the consequences of their actions on the morale of troops, families of deceased personnel as well as on Nigeria’s national security is imperative.
For the NAF and indeed the entire members of the Armed Forces, our resolve and determination to bring the current security situation in Niger State and indeed all troubled spots in the country remains unshaken. Infact, if anything, we are determined more than ever before to take on the enemy frontally until they are brought to their knees.
While calling on all Nigerians to continue to support the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies as we all jointly confront our common enemies, the NAF wishes to appreciate the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his message of condolence and words of encouragement. Our appreciation also goes to other well-meaning Nigerians for their support.
