DHQ PARTNERS BRITISH MILITARY ON CAMPAIGN PLANNING TRAINING

In a bid to ensure a robust synergy and effectiveness among components of military operations across the country, the Defence Headquarters in collaboration with the British Military Advisory and Training Team (BMATT) has commenced a five-day campaign planning training for Field Commanders and other security agencies.

The course which started May 14 2018 in Abuja, will dwell more on operational and strategic planning. The course would also provide the platform for sharing ideas and experiences between the Nigerian Armed Forces and their British counterpart on joint operational campaign processes and strategic planning with a view to further perform during joint operations.

Declaring the course open on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Olonisakin, the Director of Training (DOT), Defence Headquarters, Rear Admiral Dogara Albehu said the course is apt, timely, and will provide the participants with holistic knowledge and understanding of entire planning process.

The DOT, disclosed that the course was in line with the CDS vision, “to ensure a well-motivated, trained and equipped Armed Forces that is responsive to national security commitments.” He urged the participants to take all aspect of the course seriously, stressing that they have the requisite knowledge to make valuable inputs in order to get more understanding of joint operations.

According to Rear Admiral Albehu, ‘‘the course is viewed as a precursor to entrenching togetherness in multi-agency training to develop understanding and expertise in planning and executing single, joint or multi-agency levels”. He added that the participation of other security agencies was to intensify the existing synergy on military campaign planning, especially, in asymmetric warfare.

In his remark, the head of the BMATT delegation, Wing Commander Jason Vaughan charged the participants to see the course as a veritable tool to further enrich their knowledge on joint military campaign.

He posited that the recommendations at the end of the course would further improve joint campaign operations in Nigeria. During the course, participants would be exposed to Campaign Planning Doctrine, Joint Approach to Operations, Integrated plans, and others related topics.

I'll try uploading the scene on YouTube tomorrow.

PRESS RELEASE

TROOPS KILL 15 BOKO HARAM INSURGENTS IN SEPARATE OPERATIONS ... As aged man kills self in suicide bombing

Combined troops of Operation Lafiya Dole and the Cameroonian Defence Forces have killed 15 Boko Haram insurgents in separate encounters in Southern Lake Chad Basin. Troops neutralised the insurgents whilst conducting operations to clear remnants of Boko Haram insurgents in the Lake Chad Islands and surrounding villages of northern Borno yesterday. Troops dislodged the insurgents from their hideout after a fierce battle, killing 11 insurgents in Gomaran village of Southern Lake Chad Basin.

In two other separate encounters with the fleeing insurgents in Firgi and Moula, both in Bama and Dikwa Local Governments Areas of Borno State, troops also ambushed and neutralised 4 Boko Haram insurgents who were fleeing troops ' onslaught in the northern fringes.

The clearance operations also led to the recovery of one Single Barrel Gun, one Dane gun and one locally made pistol. Other items recovered from the dislodged insurgents include 4 Motorcycles, motorcycle spare parts, 2 tricycles, 6 pumping machines, and 2 power generating sets. Additionally, the valiant troops captured 2 Boko Haram flags, a pair of Camouflage uniform, a pair of combat boots, a Camera, a bag of mechanical tools and medications.

Four men, 33 women and 16 children were rescued by the troops from the insurgents' hideouts . The rescued hostages are currently being profiled for subsequent hand over to officials of the Internally Displaced Persons Camp for documentation and administering.

In another development, an aged Boko Haram terrorist yesterday killed himself in a suicide bomb attack around a telephone mast in Konduga in Borno state. The elderly man pretending to be weak and feeble was being searched by men of the Civilian Joint Task Force, when he detonated a suicide vest contained in a bag he was carrying. Unfortunately three Civilian Joint Task Force members paid the supreme price in the incident. The wounded have been evacuated for medical attention.

Our hearts go out to those who lost their lives as well as those injured in the callous attack.

This singular incident points to the variation in the tactics of the Boko Haram terrorists in their uncanny resolve to deceptively infiltrate communities and towns to mindlessly attack vulnerable and soft targets. Aside using women and children, the terrorists are now engaging the aged in suicide bombing as witnessed in this recent incident. They have also been detected to now appear clean and Well dressed to look unsuspicious and enable them gain access to targets marked for suicide attack. Some of the terrorists have also been found to now conceal their suicide vests by wearing it on the thigh rather than the waist to appear less bulky and evade detection when searched.

In view of these developments, members of the public are please urged to be vigilant and discerning as they go about their normal daily routines and activities.

Please disseminate this information to the general public through your news medium.

Thank you for your cooperation.

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE CONTINUES OPERATION THUNDER STRIKE, DESTROYS BOKO HARAM STRUCTURES IN BAMA, GOBARA

On 15 May 2018, the second day of the ongoing Operation THUNDER STRIKE, the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE successfully conducted air interdiction on a Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) infested location, 13 Nautical Miles North East of Bama. A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft had previously observed significant BHT presence in the location. Accordingly, the ATF detailed a combination of fighter aircraft and helicopter gunships to attack the insurgents’ position. Overhead the location, the attack platforms took turns to unleash their ordinance on the targets while the NAF ISR aircraft conducted Battle Damage Assessment (BDA). At the end of the attacks, the BDA revealed the target structures to have been destroyed and engulfed in in fire while the occupying terrorists were neutralised.

Later in the day, in continuation of the Operation, the ATF successfully conducted another attack on a location in Gobara, 15km Northwest of Gwoza. Previous ISR report had indicated that the location served as a hideout for the insurgents. Consequently, NAF fighter aircraft were detailed to carry out air interdiction on the location. The fighter jets acquired and took turns to strafe the location, destroying the building and killing most of the BHTs in the process. After the attacks, the BDA revealed that some other adjoining BHT structures and hideouts were equally destroyed.
