Are we not changing our airframes? From Alpha jets to Tucanos isnt that change? Only that the airforce is giving priority to counter insurgency being the threat at hand, what is wrong with that?
You want us to be posited for future threats, nice thoughts but today is fvcked already with Boko haram, only when we survive today should we gear up for tomorrow.

Again while you argue that chad may invade us tomorrow, I can as well argue that Haqqani network or Taliban can invade us tomorrow afterall we didn't send any invite to Al qaeda & ISis already on our soil, so gearing up for counter insurgency deals with today and future threats, while your proposal deals with future threats only ie if you understand that the platforms you recommend for the future are too expensive for counter insurgency.

I understand your Jingoism but life doesn't work the way we think, it works the way it should.
I don't know about NAF's priorities in the past but right now, I can't fault what they are doing logically, you are free to try.

You see things in a linear fashion. Because we are fighting an insurgency group we should ignore all other aspects of the military right? The Super Tucano is a specialised aircraft for COIN. I'm talking about the air force in general. Air superiority, sir defense...like the United States Nigeria relies primarily on fighter aircraft for air defence. We 're not gonna fight Boko Haram forever. Why do you guys recoil from the idea of a modern 21st century NAF. The other guy posting pics on Zambia. Is Nigeria Zambia? The present state of the air force is a disgrace for a country like Nigeria. It's almost beyond comprehension. We should be comparing ourselves to the likes of Egypt and SAAF, Not because its fun fantasy. We are really punching below our weightgor a country regarded as one of the continent's most developed and wealthiest.

With a top speed of Mach 1.2 the F-7Ni is not bad, but we need more than 6 to defend the nations airspace. The $600 million Tucano deal will go down in history as The dumbest deal in military history. $600 million is enough for two complete squadrons of interceptors, while the Mi-35, Mi-24, Mi-17, Alpha jets can effectively handle Boko Haram. Nigeria captured back all hitherto lost territories and even flushed them out of the Sambisa without the Super Tucano.

So are you telling us here on these thread that only 6 F7N jet are airworthy..

At least nothing less than 9 are operational and of recent some where reactivated, part of which was the twin seater trainer version of the F7N.

Do you make researchs before you talk of what you do not know or you just choose to rant sh undecided undecidedt.

You type and post statements that are completely ignorant like; the Alpha jet can effectively handle BHT but you can compare it to what the super tucano can do.

The max speed is mach 2 not mach 1.2. Why do you think it's an interceptor?

Tucano on the other hand will last 8 hours in air, carrying better guns, missiles and avionics not to talk of the ISR capability.

Dude stop displaying your ignorance, one of the twin seater version crashed some time ago. What's the difference between 6 of 9 aircrafts? Besides no nation can achieve %100 of all its aircrafts at a go. It's impossible. If Nigeria has just 9 F-7N fighters it means only 5 or 6 can be scrambled or deployed in short notice. Tell me how 9 F-7Ni fighters can perform its statutory role of air defense. You should be ashamed of making the 9 fighter jet in service argument. It's a Shame that Nigeria with its vast oil wealth, large population, and strategic position in Africa fields the crap it calls an air force. NINE interceptors to protect an entire nation's airspace, The only aircraft with air to air capability. What a joke.

The Super Tucano is not a fighter aircraft. It's not a fighter jet but a turbo prop subsonic aircraft with specialized air to ground capabilities. It will not survive 10 minutes against fighter jets. It cannot outrun or out-manoeuvre an anti-aircraft missile. It's useful only agsinst low level localised conflict where air superiority is a given...and I hopeby 2020 we are still not battling Boko Haram. For a price tag of $600 million for ten units its a complete waste of resources with little strategic gains. If we cannot invest in air defense batteries then we certainly need a lot more than 9 aircraft to perform that role.

Two units will be for testing and spares. Ten Super Tucano units is what will be in operation. Besides 10 and 12, whats the difference? At $600 million it is stunning !! That's the entire defence budget of Cameroon.

You act so well informed, yet it's stunning to see that you don't acknowlegde the fact that these birds comes with very serious advanced and certainly lethal configurations and thousands of laser guided bombs. We're not buyin 12 planes alone but a package of very lethal items

The deal was for $593 and not $600, The package includes the aircraft engine spare part for the 12 aircrafts, weapons & munition, training of pilots & maintemace crew, aircraft hanger and facilities to support the program, according to a 3 August publication announced by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

Now how many times have I stated clearly about the deal package or you just choose to be a carrier of false news.

$593, $600..what's the difference exactly. That we are buying this P-59 Mustang crap with over half a billion dollars for just 12 units when the rest of the Air Force fleet is near extinction and people like you celebrate this mediocrcy shows how hopeless the situation really is. If the current crop of aircraft we have cannot handle Boko Haram then frankly we have no business having an AIR Force. A nation like Nigeria should bow its head in shame looking at the State of the Air Force. You can call me names or make excuses all you want, it still does not negate the fact that Africa's wealthiest evonomy and top 5 defense spender have Air Force that's quite frankly a disgrace. If you think 12 Super Tuvcano gives the Nigerian Air Force a quantum leap in air power then your argument borders on retardation. We should be ashamed after a decade of war and billions of dollars spent the best we've come up with so far is 12 turboprop plane due for delivery 2020. This country is a joke.

But bro if u re carrying this matter for head. U re on a long thing.. Because it will only weaken u and ur morale as u dey reason am.

Some of the facts u state here re the bitter truth. But one funny fact is that, there is nothing u or anybody can do about it...
So take a chill pill and allow us enjoy our pics in peace.

Then if it gives u joy debating, criticizing and castigating the military and country, ..continue bro,

NAF DESTROYS BOKO HARAM TERRORIST HIDEOUT AT BAKASSI, PROVIDES SUPPORT TO REPEL INSURGENTS ATTACK AT GASHIGAR IN BORNO STATE

The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has destroyed a Boko Haram Terrorist (BHT) hideout at a settlement known as Bakassi near Daban Masara on the fringes of Lake Chad in the Northern part of Borno State. Similarly, the ATF, in close coordination with troops of 145 Battalion Nigerian Army (NA), also repelled a BHT attack at Gashigar. The attack at Bakassi was carried out yesterday, 26 September 2018, following days of Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions that led to the identification of a group of buildings and makeshift shelters in the settlement that were being used by the terrorists as Tactical Headquarters from where they launch attacks against own troops’ positions. Accordingly, the location was attacked by a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha Jet aircraft leading to damage of some of the structures and neutralization of several terrorists. Also, later in the evening yesterday, the ATF received intelligence reports that a group of BHTs in several gun trucks and on motorcycles were advancing for an attack on own troops position at Gashigar. Consequently, a fighter jet and helicopter gunship, supported by an ISR platform, were scrambled to the location. The aircraft, in coordination with the ground troops, intercepted and destroyed some of the gun trucks and motorcycles while neutralizing some terrorists at the outskirts of the town. The helicopter gunship subsequently carried out several follow-up attack passes and continued to engage the remaining fleeing terrorists. The NAF, working in concert with surface forces, will sustain the momentum of operations with a view to destroying vestiges of the insurgents in the fringes of Lake Chad and other areas in Northern Borno.
